Check valve support bolts are tight to specs before any clearance adjustments are made. A few tips in regards to cooling system to keep the 3b alive well into the future. Remove the oil cooler case on exhaust side of engine block and inspect for corrosion . Neglected cooling systems the cast aluminium corrodes and will pin hole , coolant loss when driving and engine overheat causing permanent damage. Whilst case is off replace oil cooler o'rings and gaskets. If original carbon steel core / welch plugs are still installed in cylinder head and engine block they will be rusted and thin on coolant side will eventually pin hole and leak . I recommend replacing all with stainless steel or brass . Also the 3B has baby core / welch plugs ( diameter 10 or 12 mm) in the side of cylinder head on exhaust manifold side , these are important to replace as they are often overlooked/ not seen as they are recessed and will be rusted and can pin hole. ( I can't remember if there is any core plugs in block behind pushrod cover 🤔) . Use good quality hoses , radiator assy , genuine Toyota, or aisin aftermarket water pump. Genuine thermostat, if bottom radiator hose has a carbon steel pipe joiner its probably rusted , i replaced with stainless steel tube , roll a ridge like original with roller tool and tig weld on flat bracket like original pipe to secure to shroud . Heater hose valve/ tap replace with genuine. Heater core inside cabin remove plus inspect for leaks and flush internally. Hoses to heater core check . Use genuine or good quality coolant with distilled water or coolants to suit your location. The old 3b will last forever if preventative maintenance is done competently. 5000km engine and oil filter. Regular fuel filter change , clean air . Don't forget the vacuum pump oil supply and return hoses for old and perished , vac pump / alternator shaft seal . Carbon steel heater hose elbow for rust at rear of head intake manifold side , replace with brass elbow 1/2 inch bsp male thread to 5/8 hose barb . Straight hose fitting on water pump change to brass. Pipe for heater hoses runs beside rocker cover is carbon steel , i replaced with stainless steel and tig welded around ends to make ridge to retain hose similar to rolled on original. One other thing that can fail on any engine as it ages is rubber in harmonic balancer. Send to harmonic balancer rerubber company if need be . Original replacement NLA.

Good video. I'm currently rebuilding a 3B, with my son. Planning to replace sleeves, and rings. Was hoping to not need to address any issues, with the head. Coming along okay, so far.
Excellent video. Good thing for pointing out that your adjustments are spec'd for a HOT engine. By the way, is your BJ40 the 12v version or the 24v version?
Subbed just because you have a Vessel screwdriver. You understand Japanese vehicles if you understand Vessel. I know it was a slotted and not a JIS but you get my point
Not just a Vessel. It's actually a Toyota branded part numbered screwdriver. I also have the Toyota hammer, a few wrenches, and JIS #1 & #2 screwdrivers.
Best valve lash adjustment video I have found. Thanks so much. I have a 75 FJ40 and need to do this adjustment. Approach you demonstrate here similar to what I've read on the 2F, but wondering if you or other viewers can speak to any differences on this particular project. I can check FSM to ensure hot & cold intake/exhaust specs are correct for 2F, but I'm just curious if there's any other difference on the non-diesel 2F for this particular job that I should be aware of before taking the valve cover off and getting after it. Thanks so much!
so "loose tappet" and crack shaft should be in up so pistion in TSD .. and we know now all loose tappet or valve that can be now adjustment .. second lower position of piston and repeat that loose method .. am right? that is best for me because rule of 9 is so much calculate 😂🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️
It could at some point. But maybe might have aome few differences with internal parts like cams, valves etc. Check out IH8MUD forum on diesel section and there's a thread which parts are compatible between a B, 2B and 3B engine.😉

Hi dude from Tanzania 🇹🇿 thanks for the update,, good job
Thanks dude, I just picked up a bj70 with 3b and this is the first job I'll be doing to her then geese nips
Really well edited video dude

Mine is 12V.
@@JUSTANOTHERLANDCRUISER thanks for sharing. I have a JDM BJ41 with 24v. Cool resto vid. Looking forward.
BJ40 never came with 24 valves. If it has 24 valves is not a B series engine..it's an H series which is a straight 6
@@enterBJ40 think he might have meant v and in volt, idk though

I think it’s pretty standard, at least on straight diesels. My 12V Cummins was same. Haven’t done a gasser.
Notice the Daihatstu Logo on the Front Cover
Yes. Diahatsu subcontracted some engine parts for Toyota back in the day.😉
The part where you try to find top dead centre with 3 different marks on the pulley makes no sense
May help me how to make valve clearance on 14B
Hey i have same engine B, 82 BJ 40, i notice wet in first injector, should i worry? other injector looks dry
Hey 👋, if the pulley no mark how adjust the pistons?
How do you find TDC on a 3 cylinder diesel with no timing marks?
I want to know the clearance mm of inlet and exoudt in 1hz engine
Will this have the same adjustment as to going through the procedure of per piston with the firing sequence of 1-3-4-2?
I don't really know.
Yes that the same .thats a shortcut method
thanks bro
Is it valve lap or lash?
Good catch. Should be lash.
🔥
I am lookin for a cylnder head of toyota 3b1995 mode0l chamber type
Hello. I need your help with 3b motor. I have question. Im need your mail. Thank.

The Rule of 9 is probably the simplest way to adjust tappets, a child could do using that method....
Hot messuremnt not req for cold adjestmnt .
Can a 2b cylinder head work on a 3b engine block
Hmm. I don’t think so but I may be wrong.
