  • www.swimmingpoo... watch how you can lose the length of the slip connection when gluing PVC pool pipes together. Using a union or valve with a union connection you can make the final PVC connection - but you have to work quickly as the solvent cement sets up very fast!

    Nice to see you hands on. Your concrete videos are super hands on, but we hardly ever get to see you elbow deep in the pool stuff.

    Hello Steve thank you for all your post. real quick could you pan back and let us see an entire wall mabey walk through the crazy looking pvc pipe maze you are always surrounded by,
    Ps i have heard you mention the loss of efficiency do to street elbows and short 90s. I live in california were most of us use sweep 90 and long sweep 90 why don't you use then ? Are you using the short 90 to save space or to create back pressure ? Or ? or am I wasting money on their sweeping 90s
    pss lol I saw someone go from 2inch at inlet to suction then 3 inch into filter and out to heater. from heater out to pool back to 2 inch, explanation given greater flow in 3 inch ? i don't get it?

    Hey Steve. Thanks for all your fantastic videos and sharing your knowledge!
    How do I install / connect the PVC lines to my Jandy 3 way valves? I know you’re supposed to twist the pvc pipe when making a slip connection, but how would you perform that twisting motion connecting the suction side risers to 3-way valves?
    Sorry if this question seems confusing!

    Are you sure the Primer and glue sequence is correct on your video?

    Drilling new holes through gunite wall and putting PVC through it. Do you glue it? Apoxy it? Or just use the plaster to seal it?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  4 года назад +3

      Yikes. Drill hole, concrete urethane around the pipe, inset through the wall, chip out around pipe penetration from interior, apply another urethane bead, hydraulic cement around this, and it probably will still leak because there is no water stop buried within the wall. It is incredibly difficult to stop water from chasing through a pipe, and just for reference pool plaster is not waterproof at all. It would prevent zero water from escaping your pool.

      Can you post videos with tips on gluing pipe below grade? Like say on a main drain line at the pump and how to deal with that situation. Sure you knew a few tricks

    Hi Steve Thx for your great videos. Do you use sandpaper before cleaning and gluing pipes?

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 2 года назад +1

      Sandpaper is optional but worth the effort if the piece was a freshly cut end. Sanding removes small fragments of PVC that could prevent good pipe fit and cause a leak. Sanding also removes the shiny film layer on new pipe that the solvent doesn’t always remove completely.

    I have a 3 way Jandy diverter valve (for the spa/pool), to a coupler (4 inches total), to a 3 way space saver Jandy valve (skimmer/main drain). Where the coupler joins the space saver Jandy valve, there is a dripping leak. I checked and replaced the orings from the Jandy space saver valve so I know it’s not that and actually the PVC glue joint on the coupler. How do I fix this?!? I don’t really have room to be cutting pipes since it’s low to the ground and there’s little room with the plumbing setup.
    Can I just add more primer/pvc cement to where it’s leaking?
    Thanks Steve!! :)

    what glue would you recommend when plumbing in pvc tube into a new black plastic piece of equipment like a check valve? Same glue and primer?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  3 года назад +1

      Same, yes. It will turn your primer brush black but it works. Any PVC glue will work on a CPVC valve, but only CPVC glue would provide heat rating like CPVC is intended for. Some cheaper black valves might be ABS and that is different and needs a transition glue.

    • @OHYEAAHH203

      @@Swimmingpoolsteve thank you Steve! Yes I was looking on the product page and it just says plastic. Nothing about CPVC. I'll look into transition glue then. Really enjoying you pool equipment walk through videos as I'm preparing to do my own install. Hopefully you can bring those back some day. Cheers

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve

      I would not make the assumption it is ABS unless it says so. PVC is more common for 3 way valves, especially name brand ones like Hayward, Pentair and especially Jandy
