I have adored this HD 2D format since Octopath Traveler. I honestly wish SE would go back and remake the First Six games in the Final Fantasy Franchise in this format, hell, I'd even love to see them some of the other FF games in the style. Or give us FFX-3 or FFX-0.5 or whatever in this style. It's so damn beautiful. Bring on the rest of the DQ series.
The producer for this remake, Dragon Quest 3, is the same producer working on the remake of Dragon Quest 1 and 2. He did an interview recently where even he said he would like to see Final Fantasy 6 done in the HD-2D style. Which means it COULD happen at some point.
Heck yeah double dipped on this one for PC and Switch. It's fun to replay like dark souls with weird builds and parties. Gotta do an all gadabout run soon!

DQs world is sort of like the Far east of Eden franchise. This strategy SE is using with DQ is what they should have done with FF. 1 Big new game (stylized and smaller dimensions like DQ11) and 1 remake in HD-2D (at least for the first 4-6 games). Instead of those big realistic FF games that barely have any fantasy in it, or gigantic remakes split in many parts. Sales show how well the strategy is working for DQ franchise since it is growing with every release, while FF is just going down and get more dislike with every release.
Man, as someone who remembers when the series started, it really nice to see the series getting so much more love and attention from Western audiences past several years. It's about damn time! As for DQ 3 HD 2D, got it day after it dropped. Great game and if you don't have it, definitely pick it up!
I bought the game for ps5 and switch. I'm just glad DQ is finally getting the love it deserves cause it's such an amazing franchise that stuck to its roots. Every entry just feels modernized but still feels like DQ, I wish I could say the same thing about FF. I'm just glad it's selling well so hope we get a DQ remake of 4,5, and 6 as well as FF6 my personal favorite, I would cry tears of joy if they announced it
One interesting benefit of the Xbox version of DQ3 is that it is Play Anywhere enabled, so you can download and play it on the console and on the PC as well. And if you have a game pass subscription (ultimate I think 🤔) you can play on the cloud too.
Great game, good remake, and it can run on pretty modest hardware. Once it hits a sale, they will move more units. I think a lot of people feel $60 is a pretty rich asking price for a game that has an obviously smaller budget than most AAA games. I snagged a preorder deal on GMG to save a few bucks.
I love hearing those sales numbers, which don’t lie. I beat Refantazio! I’m playing Brothership right now, but when I’m done I’ll get to DQ3-2DHD for which I’ve been highly anticipating!
Pokémon sv becoming best selling Pokémon game shows that: - boycott often if not always fails. Especially for popular franchise like Pokémon - A lot of these ytbers say Pokémon sucks and nobody shuould buy the game were never into Pokémon to begin with. - those say palworld is gonna take over Pokémon, think again.
I just find it hilarious that a lot of people whining about some of the glitches in Pokemon... are people who constantly buy Skyrim and other Elder Scrolls/Bethesda games.
I think the difference is expectations. Nintendo has a track record of almost obsessive bug testing. Historically their first party games have had comparatively few issues, so when there is something, it's a bigger deal. Every one of Bethesda's games have been completely broken from the start, and were either never patched, or the patches didn't fix the problems. So people buying Bethesda games know that they'll be a mess going in.
@michellequinn1940 might want to check on pokemons history with glitches. Sure, sure, people will find numerous reasons missingNo "doesn't count" aka nostalgia riding.... but every pokemon game has been glitches as he'll at launch.
To say the sales numbers will direct what the devs create is like saying what you see on an ad for a restaurant is what you're gonna get. Yeah, it'll be what you're buying, but it's never gonna be quite what you hope for. Square will definitely keep Dragon Quest in its peripherals, but just like what we've seen with Mega Man Battle Network and how Capcom has used the Mega Man franchise after its release, I feel that Square will be stunned that DQ is so successful, just like how DQ Monsters: The Dark Prince showed, but they won't know where to go with it, especially since Akira Toriyama (R.I.P.) passed, and because Square always favors Final Fantasy over any of their other IPs, they won't do anything truly major with the franchise for a long time. Though, this may very well just be my own personal view as a fan who grew up enjoying the Dragon Quest Monsters spinoff series who has watched game after game release stay isolated as Japan only exclusives and waiting since the GameInformer announcement of Dragon Quest X for Wii back in 2012 to see more Dragon Quest ports finally come over. I'm just glad the past 3-5 years have been kind for the fans of the series.
@Nando75549 Absolutely agreed. Dragon Quest X Offline or even either the anniversary edition of Terry's Wonderland or Joker 3 Expert would be phenomenal. I don't want to jinx it, cause I am happy that we've seen more Dragon Quest games being released the past few years than we've seen over the past decade, but I would love to see more love given to the series as well.
It's not surprising that DQ did so well regardless of the censorship, especially in japan where that series is practically a religion. I will get it at some point, preferably physical so I know I own it.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet does have a ton of flaws, and you can see where there is content missing (like you can tell they wanted to make each Gym have a mini-game that you could play over and over with friends), but it really is one of the best stories pokemon has ever done. It really only shows itself best at the end with it's kind of 80s goonies inspired really emotional ending.
This game is quite literally on everything though.... so.... yeah. Not sure why we're talking about switch I guess. All I know is go play it. I got it on Steam personally.
I really hope they don't do a Switch version and do Switch 2 only, else the game will need to be downgraded to be able to run on the extremely outdated Switch hardware, and obviously devs don't make multiple versions nowdays, it's just a single version slightly adapted for different platforms.
I think the result of these sales definitely means by hook or by crook Monster Hunter Wilds will end up on the Switch 2. The Switch sales of DQ3 were nearly triple on the Switch compared to PS5. Monster Hunter is popular worldwide now but the huge market in Japan has to still matter.
So oj many times says that the number of ps5 consoles sold in Japan stay in Japan and that the low software sales on the ps5 are NOT because of, at least, 50% of the ps5 consoles sold in Japan are really being exported to other countries in the region… now he says that the ps5 pros sold well in Japan only because they were being sold to other countries in the region. And as you can see by the sales if they had made this only on ps5 they would have only had 1/4th the sale they have now. Hopefully they see this and realize the mistakes they are making.
I agree it is how pokemon gameplay should always be now and is fun unlike the boring Gen8 but bugs and glitches are not ok if we say they are they will make Gen10 the same. Then again people who defend these things like you probably think Gen8 was fun also and just love defending everything...
The sales are no a surprise dragon quest is much more popular on Nintendo. I legit don't think FF can reach sales of the old FF in jp with switch 2 included imo. FF brand in general is just damaged.
Considering that both DQ and FF were Nintendo games originally, the fact that only DQ came back to Nintendo consoles with recent mainline titles and spinoffs, it's kind of not all that surprising that DQ XII might be considered for the Switch 2. Been a DQ fan since the first game was localized, and love how the series hasn't changed its identity or mechanics too much.
@@whitewolf3051 mainline dragon quest never left Nintendo since DQ 7 and 8(when PS2 and PS1 dominated)which where later ported to 3ds and are still stuck there. I trugged through octopath 2 on the switch and the loading times and graphical compromises are just too much to justify buying for it now. hoping switch 2 returns to form. it is kind of crazy that DQ3 remake is like double the sales of Dragon Age veilguard.
Dragon Quest is positive, but they went back to the drawing board after the response for the original HD-2D reveal. That response was huuuge, on the level of FF7 Remake's initial reveal trailer. They left it in secret and hiding for too long, when they could have let players know that given how enthusiastic that response was, they felt the original build wasn't adequate and wanted to create something truly special worthy of the player base. THAT would have gone over very well, and heightened anticipation over the release. In the silence and vacuum of no information and no reasoning why a clearly nearly complete game with the 2021 reveal trailer, was postponed for so long. Especially with so little DQ news, when we're used to 2~4x more games over the same period. So while the sales are good, and I think it's between 1.2~1.5m, maybe as high as 1.8m in Japan atm, depending on digital sales...given Dragon Quest, there might be a far higher physical purchase rate. Given likely costs, it probably needs around 750k~1.2m to break even, as Amata KK's build would be in the 5, maybe as high as 10m range. While the Artdink build and time would be anywhere from 40~60m...maybe a little lower. They skimped hard on marketing, even in Japan. Though Japan had what most remakes get in terms of marketing, so that makes sense. The US and EU had 2 Directs, one half the length of the other, and only AFTER release, a Nintendo Switch news article, which after day 2 of that article going up, they spent extra, likely because digital sales were actually going up, to change its position to highlight. That's probably between 1.5m total with all the other things they did for the NA/EU regions combined, and 5m for Japan. Had the original build released on May 27th, 2022, as Team Asano had tweeted on DQ Day 2021, after the announcement? I think it would have sold 5m out the gate, first day. This game has sold probably half that world wide, at best. A lot of reasons. Not just the lack of communication. Also the economic conditions, and of course marketing. However the controversy definitely made an impact on it, though we'll never know how much, it's hard to say it made any major impact, but even 50k sales does play a role. The real issue is how SE handled everything, and going dark and quiet after Elon's tweet, rather than play into it...though I'm of the mind that I want to see all of the unnecessary changes like Appearance A/B eventually patched out, and that can always happen down the road. As a DQ fan it's necessary for it to succeed, especially with how precarious things are in the West, and we're unfortunately always left on a precipice of wonder if we'll get the next release, all due to SE and even the DQ team's blunders and poor choices on multiple levels. Lack of communication being a very huge hurdle they still need to overcome. So great sales and a good thing to celebrate, but had they properly handled that downtime, this game should be at 1.8m on Switch physical minimum, and 500k on PS5 minimum, if not 1.5m on PS5, in Japan alone. With a 1m sales marker in the US and another 1.2m in Europe. With SE touting the biggest HD-2D success in history. That is where we SHOULD be at, and from how much love was put into this version? What this game deserves. I actually hated it at first, it took some time to gravitate towards the art style, but after day 2...yeah, I really really really enjoy it. I do wish we had better battle animations, and a few other things, but I am hoping we see enhancements going forward, less so with 1+2, as with what I feel is an eventual 4~6 trilogy remade this way. Hell, I'd love a Demake of 7~9 and 11 in this style
Only negative thing I’ve heard from people who actually played it was that the old school game design didn’t click for some. Or that is was too expensive for a remake of a 36-year-old RPG. But that’s to be expected from Dragon Quest, it stays old school which is part of its charm. It’s video game D&D. The cries of “censorship” came from western grifters, none of that mattered for Japanese players because they love Dragon Quest.

Dragon quest 3 on gbc is more than good enough for me.
Dragon Quest HD2D Remake is best enjoyed on the Steam Deck.
Omg we get it dragon age have destroyed Toriyama art we get it you wish you could destroy Toriyama youself
hi OJ
Did they remove the censorship?
Only negative thing I’ve heard from people who actually played it was that the old school game design didn’t click for some. Or that is was too expensive for a remake of a 36-year-old RPG.
But that’s to be expected from Dragon Quest, it stays old school which is part of its charm. It’s video game D&D.
The cries of “censorship” came from western grifters, none of that mattered for Japanese players because they love Dragon Quest.
@@CarbyGuuGuuplus it wasn’t censored in Japan due to translations.
