I'm not exactly sure of the Rule, but clearly the Ump was and was explaining it to the coach. But since the girl DID NOT tag home plate, the play was still "LIVE". So the Ump gave the other team's player (catcher I think) a new ball (since the one the girl hit is over the outfield wall and no longer in play), so now this NEW ball is "in play". So the catcher tagged the girl out before she could return to home plate to step on it. So she is OUT!!
There is nothing "sketchy" about it. You are required to touch all bases when you hit a home run out of the park. The girl did not do that. So once the Ump took a new ball out of his satchel and handed it to the other team's catcher, that new ball was "in play" on a still "live" play, so the runner could be tagged out.

We had 4 fields that went back to back and there was a small patch between the four fields that was the area behind the outfield wall for all four fields. He hit it in there. The ump ruled it a ground rule double because "we cant get the ball back." It's over the fence and we had 20 balls! And there was a gate to access that area!

The announcers mention being behind the line and it possibly being three points, any ball that is blocked, thrown, passed into your own basket is not considered a try or attempt and is not eligible to be 3 points. Essentially, you have to be trying to put it in your own basket to get a 3 pointer, any shot at your hoop is not legally or statistically considered a shot attempt.
