@@LupinYonderboy he was upsetting the balance of a car. I drive an mr2 so I’ve done a lot of research. His main mistake from what I can tell was slowing down in the corner
My favorite sub 1000 bucks track car i ever owned was a beaten and battered Peugeot 206 GTI. Thing was destined for the scrapper but i saved and used it for the summer. Most fun i had in ages.
These challenges are honestly so entertaining, love it. I'd like to next see you each spend the value of the car (another grand) to make them more track focussed, and THEN do some track tours - Brands, Nurburgring, etc. Would be very cool to see what actual performance mods you can do for £1K!
@@GwilsonDrums I feel old when I see people think of Grand Tour before Top Gear when referring to the iconic Clarkson-Hammond-May trio. But in the end, it doesn't matter what's the name of they show they're doing.
Will, do you know how excellent the astra is for track use? It's forgiving and teaches you a lot about steering wheel feedback. Well, at least the opel version, you know, the one where the steeringwheel is on the correct side? :D the suspension is superb, and increasing back tyre pressure to 3 bar and front tyre to 2.1 bar helped me back in the days to get his understeering behavior under control. Set the apex as late as possible, so you may get in the corner slowly but can accelerate earlier, because it understeers a lot under throttle and the lack of a lsd would just lead to wasted cornering potential. If you ever put hands on it, make sure reducing chamber in the rear an optionally increase it int the front, depends on the tyres you wanna use.
Great video! However, I'll have to defend the Astra's styling a bit, just because it was used for one of my favourite race cars, the Opel Astra V8 Coupé. Sadly the street legal Astra OPC X-treme (name's a bit silly) never made it to the originally planned small series production
The Ford Ka is a tremendous little ball of fun - the example I drove at launch was fantastic - in fact I nearly bought one. Seriously underrated, fun cars!
i bought my Ford Ka 2001 in 2013 with 120.000kms , Now it has 257.000kms and it still can catch 120 km/h without doing a big effort it's a 1.0 tecno edition Zetec Rocam
I had a first series 1.3, even the same colour of this one. The 1.3 engine had plenty of torque, and the car handled beautifully. The lateral G acceleration it could reach was a selling point at that time.
This channel absolutely has the vibe of older Top Gear series, where it was just a lot of good fun. Really hope you can keep that feel going as the channel gets more popular.
The 1.7l engine from the Puma will fit right into that Ka, as will the front brakes and suspension. A little fettling will bring that engine to about 160bhp without affecting reliability. A mate bought a Ka with a blown engine and a water soluble Puma and combined the 2 for a track car. If you can find them, do it.
So I woke up at 3am and found this channel today, it's now 7.30am and I have completed it. Once it started in the subaru series and then the skinny tyres Caterham, mixed with the 3 presenters, it's a solid new top gear and I'm all in. Subbed
This very much reminds me of 3 middle aged men doing the same thing some years ago, keep it up lads! Have you considered doing a video with Alex Kersten? That would be a blast!
You could use the mid engined MG and explore how weight distribution affects a cars over-/under-steer tendencies. Put some additional weight in the front, rear or evenly distributed and see how it does.
That ford Ka when built actually makes it a really fun track car. Very popular choice here in Brazil. I drive a Ka myself but it's a recent model and it has nothing to do with the original one (it's basically a Fiesta ST without the turbo). The original one is pretty iconic. I also remember it in Gran Turismo.
I'd love to see you take a wrench to these cars and do what you can to make them good without breaking the bank! Some decent tires, weight reduction, good brakes, etc.
Totally LOVED this video. Top gear style that we're craving for... So many things to do with those cars. I would like to see a NC500 with the proper guests 😉 (autoalex and the car throttle guys)
Won't be allowed now you have 'painted' them but would be great to see you guys do a targa rally in boggo standard 1000£ cars in the same categories. Could be a whole little serise! Car prep, practice, how tos and see who can win! Would be good to see targas get some coverage
Well I'm going to miss the old name "Driven Media" But at least with "OVERDRIVE" people won't confuse you all with DonutMedia, so in my mind this is an absolute step up!
I loved my KA. Really fun car to drive, and it's so cheap that you don't really worry if you scrape it. Really did punish that engine and it lasted through 2 solid years of hard driving without proper warming up. And with no traction control, it was super fun in the wet. Easily spins the fronts up to 40 in first. The KA hasn't got any power, but it has just the right balance for fast cornering on tight back roads. Also really stuck to the road when I had my mate with me. Kept up with a fiesta on one of our decent driving roads. He pulled on the straights, but I caught him in the corners. Handbrake turns are also fairly easy as there is virtually no weight in the back. Can't fault that car one bit. The only issue we had was a dead battery. Before the accident, I could probably have put that car up for sale for £2000. No advisories other than a dodgy garage that failed her for rust that was magically gone when we went to another garage. Really was in great condition. Unfortunately she got written off on the 8th of Jan 2023 as an 86 year old woman tried to turn into a carpark infront of me whilst I was doing 50mph on a 60mph road which was straight and flat, with nothing obstructing her view of my car. Not much you can do in any car in that situation. I'll miss my little yeg, And I won't ever forget her. Onwards and upwards though. Next car is going to be a 2015 to 2018 focus, preferably the 1.5. More power and wider tires, so hopefully I won't have fiestas pulling away from me on the straights anymore.
As someone who owned an mg tf (£200 plus £200 for a new subframe - good deal!) Callum is a brave guy. Anything remotely slippy and 2,500 revs would spin the wheels and make it swap ends like it was nothing! Spun into a snowdrift twice in it...good times until the head gasket went!
I absolutely had a blast watching this.. my cheeks hurt from laughing so much 😂 awesome content lads love these videos! It almost gives me old school top gear vibes with you three having a dig at each other! 😉
