I served in a number of areas, with a number of joint operations involving Canadian and US special forces. I was a scout sniper, I saw a few things that made me uncomfortable as far as conduct. What could be called lack of judgement which under circumstances could be forgiven. But there is a large gap, a humongous gap between questionable judgement under fire, and unforgivable conduct as a soldier. This man dishonored his uniform with no excuses. In the military there are the Articles of war, which are too lengthy to memorize. But in the field there are rules of engagement, and rules of conduct. Which for us was drummed in before each mission, (paraphrasing a long speech) confirm targets, no harm to unarmed civilians, always conduct yourself with honor as a representative of your uniform and country. The back of my neck, ears and face are burning as I listen to this peace of garbage try to make excuses for what he did. There is no excuse for his conduct. What ever atrocities an enemy allegedly commits, you do not represent your uniform and country by sinking to their level. This man did not only piss on the dead he pissed all over his uniform, his dignity, and his honor as a professional soldier. Not to mention every scout sniper's legacy. People who are supposed to exercise the highest level of judgement and responsibility in their conduct.

This would have been just another day in the Pacific during WW2 against the Japanese. Hell, they collected the gold teeth from enemy dead , even bones. This is what happens when soldiers engage an enemy so completely alien in culture to them, who doesn't obey any standard norms of warfare. Serving as an 0311 in Vietnam we encountered the enemy on their terms. The resulting outcome isn't anything like what is expressed by movies or the news media. When we recovered our dead and wounded we didn't have time afterward to morn our dead, to say goodbye, nor the opportunity to take a shower, to change into clean clothes, or go to the rear for R&R. We got resupplied and told to saddle up and move out. We pursued the enemy where ever they went. I have witnessed my Buddies lives drain out of them because they couldn't be evacuated. Moving our wounded to a collection point for MedEvac. Bundling our dead in our ponchos, dragging them out of exposed killing zones, through brush, dirt, mud, and obstacles so that they can be returned to their Loved Ones. Upon my return Stateside I had to deal with those who could never grasp or comprehend what I and My Follow Service Members experienced or accept that I chose to kill another human. Well I love America and everyone who has in the past, today and in the future raise their left hand and swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States. As a combat veteran I commend this Marine and his Team Members for doing their duty and committing to hunting down their adversaries and killing them. What they did has happened in every war from the stone age. Society isn't willing to accept that in the killing of your enemy those few men that do the job rarely have the satisfaction of personally paying it back. They did. Ernest Hughes The Marine in this video speaking, Cpl. Robert Richards is dead now. He died last year (August 2014), don't know if it was suicide or not, but it had something to do with the perscription drugs he was taking.

This is what happens when soldiers engage an enemy so completely alien in culture to them, who doesn't obey any standard norms of warfare. I have every right to comment on this video. I am a combat veteran who had worked eight years in the Middle East. I know war up close and personal and I know Islam and these animals. What these criminals do to our soldiers and to civilians is just sick. They behead, torture, rape, murder, use people as human shields, and other sadistic things. Where is the outcry against these things. There is NONE. NEVER is. This man and his team lost some men to an IED and went back to retrieve there friends and buddies body parts. Serving as an 0311 in Vietnam we encountered the enemy on their terms. The resulting outcome isn't anything like what is expressed by movies or the news media. When we recovered our dead and wounded we didn't have time afterward to morn our dead, to say goodbye, nor the opportunity to take a shower, to change into clean clothes, or go to the rear for R&R. We got resupplied and told to saddle up and move out. We pursued the enemy where ever they went. I have witnessed my Buddies lives drain out of them because they couldn't be evacuated. Moving our wounded to a collection point for MedEvac. Bundling our dead in our ponchos, dragging them out of exposed killing zones, through brush, dirt, mud, and obstacles so that they can be returned to their Loved Ones. Upon my return Stateside I had to deal with those who could never grasp or comprehend what I and My Follow Service Members experienced or accept that I chose to kill another human. Well I love America and everyone who has in the past, today and in the future raise their left hand and swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States.
As a combat veteran I commend this Marine and his Team Members for doing their duty and committing to hunting down their adversaries and killing them. What they did has happened in every war from the stone age. Society isn't willing to accept that in the killing of your enemy those few men that do the job rarely have the satisfaction of personally paying it back. They did.
It's sad that these Marines became examples for those who refuse to accept that death is personal.

The Marine in this video speaking, Cpl. Robert Richards is dead now. He died last year (August 2014), don't know if it was suicide or not, but it had something to do with the perscription drugs he was taking.

I was a sniper with 3/5 52 years ago. Unfortunately, my job was not supporting and protecting U.S. Marines. I worked for suits. Some of those Warlords I killed were sociopathic Warlords. They deserved no amount of human respect. I have seen them have their soldiers mutilate humans using methods beyond the dark ages. Listen to me Marine. Take it for what it was, hold your head high, and continue with your life.

Call me crazy, but those who have not experienced war do not have the right nor should they have the right to pass judgement onto those who have for what they did during it. it really sucks that them peeing on those terrorists ruined their careers. don't get me wrong, it was a despicable act and made me sick to my stomach when i saw the original video. however, i am a civilian. i have never experienced the terrors of war (and i am extremely grateful for that), so i cannot pass judgement onto them for their actions during war time because i cannot even fathom how i would react and change as a person if i was thrust into the role of those involved in this incident.
