Super excited to see you cover this, and even more so to see that you love the minis as much as I do. I love all the unique race/class combos and dynamic sculpts!
According to Nicholas Yu, Barachiel (not Brachial, misspelled in the video) is actually an aasimar. Also, he confirmed Chloe is a half-elf, so no need for the question mark.
As a side note, I think it’s interesting how short they made Drakmau given that she’s a Goliath.

@@TheGallantGoblin It’s a shame they don’t have more tools for creators to edit uploaded videos. And yeah, I had to do some digging to figure it out for myself. I personally love knowing as much about each of my minis as possible. Especially with respect to race, class, gender, and even subclass if relevant.

I bought a used set for a really good price. I was interested for the minis, but the game is really solid. The price point is the biggest hurdle they have for this game. The essential kit has an MSRP of $80 and I feel that is twice what it should be; the core should have MSRP at $100 and I think sales would have been huge just from mini collectors alone.

I love this game too. For my buddies that want games to end sooner, we changed the rules to movement is doubled and so is damage. Still fun quick matches

We had a weekly game night with 6-8 people and played mostly games we saw on tabletop . The one day while everyone was talking about critical role for the millionth time I offered to DM a 2E one shot because I still had all the books in a box. We had three years into the campaign before covid killed it. Just started campaign 2 a few months back.

I had a similar issue with the cards since theres a couple of similarly colored ones. I ended up painting rings around the minis in bolder colors to help distinguish them. Also used the normal kobold warband to mix in some variety.

Thanks for this! I’ve been waiting for a review like this that focuses on more than just the minis. This might be the first non-exclusive mini 5e product I buy since 2017. I’ve seen these Core Sets for as low as $80-$105, so I’ll definitely be on the lookout for a deal. This would be good for my 4th-8th grade students as an alternative to all the PF2e campaigns I run for them.

There are some tweaks that would have made the set better. For example a dice bag to draw from instead of the envelop. A few more 3D bits like maybe chests instead of having so many cardboard tokens. It is nice though to have something quick that is D&D related when you can't gather a whole group and a DM.

My biggest problem is the what you get for the price. If you look at similar skirmish games this feels experience for what you get. Games workshops( a company known for bloating their products) equivalent to this is there warcry box sets and they run $150-240 usd(the higher end also feels too high also). Yes you have to assemble everything, but the teams run 9-12 models, and you get a bumch of 3 dimensional Terrain.

Im similar in that i prefer co-op games or games that involve me just optimizing my own game without messing with others. For some reason I either end up getting picked on, OR feel guilty for picking on somebody. 🤷🏼‍♂️ HOWEVER oddly enough, I will play 1v1 games where it is EXPECTED to play that way.

As much as I love the look of this, I don’t think any DnD boardgame will top the adventure system games for me. I have 4/6 of them and the expansion and they get used so often! The tiles are arguably more useful then maps and while most minis are unpainted, you get 40 odd in a box for a much cheaper game. This does look good though - if anything I hope it brings more people into the hobby :)

Won’t lie. I got into D&D due to Dungeon Command. A Sorta 4E “Wrath of Ashardolon” add-on game. Had Only 5 prepainted Armies/Enemies/Allies To use. But it was a great intro to the game. But it’s not a a great buy. Mostly cause everything is practically of lesser Quality or not even made to be used with This Onslaught game.
But you know what, I may as well pick up this set anyway.

I did some similar instructions for the "Dungeon command" game because I didn't like a game with no dice. And, like you, I don't like skirmish or wargames per se, I like them with lore and PC and NPCs, stories and player decitions that affect the outcome. For years I've been playing the 2001-2002 Chainmail miniatures skrmish game (with modern minis filling the classic ones) but with characters and many changes but following the original lore. I like the minis and boards of this new set a lot! but .... 140 dollars is too much. Maybe someon else buy it and invite me to play! ....but most probably invite me to play Terraforming Mars, a game with no monsters! what the..... ?

Pathfinder's triple action economy is amazing...
Everything else about Pathfinder is a dumpster fire...
... who needs to do more paperwork just to get the same feeling game that 5e offers...

    • @Captainpigraven
      @Captainpigraven Год назад

To each their own. I love PF2e, have been running multiple campaigns since it’s advent in 2019, and have yet to experience any sort of true “more paperwork” experience. Most of the options are just that…optional. The only part of the system that actually feels like more of a chore to learn is the conditions. And even then you probably won’t go more than one or two sessions before you understand and even master the important ones.
5e as a player feels great for the first few times you play. Then you realize no matter how you build out your character, most of the time the choices you make in combat don’t really matter at all. That’s what happens when you build a system around such a powerful mechanic like Advantage/Disadvantage but offer little in the way of stackable options that your teammates can mix and match in order to tailor the strategy to the creature the team is fighting.
Of course, running monsters in 5e one quickly realizes the team doesn’t need to worry about teamwork much at all, even spread across an entire campaign. Monsters in 5e are less their own, unique experience and more about being bags of HP, to wear the party down over the course of a battle and over the span of a day. Most monsters are just re-skinned versions of each other, often times the only significant change being the damage amount being dealt. That’s why, how a team fights at level 1 is usually how they end up fighting at level 20, with the same general strategy for every creature faced.
Combat in PF2e is generally a bit tougher than 5e, sure, but at least the table can celebrate together after a victory knowing they won because they worked together and found and exploited the best strategy within the mechanics for the threat in question. Whereas more often than not, a 5e combat victory is a celebration that a party outlasted their enemies, hit harder than they did, and were at the mercy of their GM pulling punches or adding HP, as needed, to effect the outcome of battle. The keys to combat success in PF2e often changes specifically per fight, whereas the keys to 5e combat success tend to be a rinse, wash, repeat cycle across a campaign.
Out of combat, though, I think PF2e is a bit more of a mixed bag. I really like that there are specific rules for all the skills. And I appreciate all the extra abilities that skill feats can add. But I like them more for the player creativity they can help spawn then the social mechanics themselves. I find too often the usefulness of certain skill abilities (and feats) fluctuate too much between the different skills. Many skill feats leave me scratching my head thinking, “why can’t the player just do this already-or at least attempt it-with me setting an appropriate DC for success as I would normally? Thus, many skill feats, useful as they are, tend to be house-ruled at my table to essentially become DC reducers for the actions being taken. And that’s fine, but it does seem to defeat the original purpose for Paizo creating those feats in the first place.
But even with that said, the skills in social play and most of the rules themselves that come with them work well in practice. I know some people like the more nitty gritty approach to the social side of the game, and I’m happy to report for those whom do, it functions well. I just personally prefer a less structured approach.
