    I was just about to buy the deco 1 when I found this in xp pen’s new listing. I went straight to youtube to see if it’s any good, and just as expected, not that many reviews are out yet. That was about 5 weeks ago, and after brad colbow’s and your review, I’m finally convinced to fork out a few more bucks to get the small over the deco 1. Thanks!

    I have been doing traditional art for 12 years now and it was since last year that I started weighing my options to go fully digital. At first I thought that no way I was going to learn the hand-eye coordination all over again as if I was just new to art but then the screen tablets are really expensive. So, after looking through reviews, I found this tablet which offers so much in such an affordable price. I am so glad that Xp-pen has it's own shop in my country so that I don't have to pay extra money to get it exported here. Definitely going for this.

      What made you choose this over Deco 3? Are you satisified with your choice?
      I am slightly torn between these two options (Deco Pro SMALL and Deco 03 Medium) --> Pro has tilt function (don't require it at least yet) and more advanced control wheel, BUT Deco 03 is wireless, screen estate slightly bigger and RPS (response rate) is higher 266 (vs. Deco Pro ~200).
      Especially regarding to last one my question is also to @Teoh Yi Chie: do you recall if there was any noticable difference in lag compared to Deco 03 you've reviewed last year?

    • @harpreetsinghgrover
      @harpreetsinghgrover 3 года назад

      @kohko: I too was confused between deco 03 and deco pro small, finally placed my order today for deco pro small. Checked, deco 03's area is too large and weight would also increase accordingly. Deco pro small : decent size (not sure why they call it small), android connectivity, dial is much better and usability is more than deco 03, weight is lesser (easier to carry), wired (definitely a con here but I guess we will have to sit in front of screen in any case of I think this is also fine), tilt function is a plus (missing in deco 03). Plus stylus is better in case of deco pro, nib is much better, best point got it for $ 123 almost $ 30-40 cheaper than deco 03. My first tablet, I'm excited for this.

    I hope there is drawing tablet that can be used for 3D modeling (CAD/CAM), cause using mouse and keyboard make my hand fatigue.
    Usually people that work here using trackball or space mouse. But I think it would be better if we using drawing tablet too cause it feel more natural and comfort.
    I use XP Pen Deco Pro for now, but the problem is 3D manipulating view that can be done using this tablet flawlessly, I must use combination shortcut, pen button, and pen move to rotate/pan, and also the zoom scroll wheel is not smooth enough.

    I m an Architectural designer (uses for AutoCAD, Sketchup, Revit, ArchiCAD, Blender, Photoshop, Indesign, Premier), planning to migrate from Wacom to Xp pen Deco Pro.. and I need to make sure if the pen tablet be suitable for my 3D artist work flow. I was hoping anyone who has it can help to answer few of my question as this would effect the workflow.
    The driver in the website has a version of "XP-PENWin_3.0.8.201225(New UI Beta Driver)"
    Question:
    1. From my research digging information from reviewers and PDF from Deco Pro website - How come the older driver dial and touch dial has 5 slots each, while the new UI has only 4 slots each (additionally mac driver has 6 slots each?)
    2. Upon my research, I would like to know if it is possible to have zoom in and zoom out to be allocated to just 1 button at pen barrel? (ie. by holding on the button, moving the pen forward or backward will simulate zoom in n zoom out)
    3. Is the Beta driver stable enough for daily driver?
    4. Based on my research on reviewers, the mouse + keyboard key combination for custom express key, can only be found in newer UI driver and not on the official driver?
    5. the New UI driver will have the ability to have individual app presets for the pen barrel buttons? This is important as I am using multiple apps with their individual way to zoom, rotate and pan
    6. does XP pen has same windows ink issue as Wacom (pressure sensitivity in some prog will not work if windows ink is not activated)?
    You help will be much appreciated and I hope these question able to encourage regular wacom user to consider alternative pentablet.
    Finally, Can someone do a video showing the new UI driver. Pen tablet will only be as useful as the driver it provide.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  3 года назад +1

      1. The driver should recognise the tablet and allow you to customise all the ExpressKeys and dial.
      2. That zoom shortcut has to be done with keyboard or ExpressKeys. E.g. Ctrl + Space and then drag your cursor to zoom.
      3. Beta driver seems okay but I've not tested this for extended period of time so I can't say for sure.
      4. The driver functionality is similar for new and old driver. It's just the driver UI that looks different.
      5. You can create shortcut sets for specific apps you use.
      6. They usually have Windows Ink issues regardless of brand. You have to toggle Windows Ink on or off to troubleshoot.

    1) which pen is better to work with between the Deco pro and Deco 03?
    and
    2) if i buy one of the xp pen tablets will i lose something if i compare with wacom intuos pro tablets and pro pen2 ?
    My main concerns are compatibility, features, durability, no jitter in thin and slow strokes. i don't want to compromise with these. if i have to i am ready to spend more and buy intuos pro. but if i get these with xp pen tablets i don't want to buy an intuos pro.

      Hey there,
      For your questions:
      1) I believe the XP-Pen Deco Pro pen works better, although only slightly better due to how the pen has a slightly different inner mechanism which holds the pen nib better.
      2) With regards to compatibility, features, durability, and no jitter, I believe the XP-Pen Deco Pro satisfies features, durability, and no jitter.
      However, I am not completely sure about compatibility. All I can say is that it will work with “most major programs”, so programs like Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Corel Painter, Medibang, Krita, Sketchbook, etc.
      If you are not sure about the compatibility with your program, it would be a very good idea to ask XP-Pen directly whether the tablet is compatible with your program(s).
      I hope that helps,
      Nikage"

    HELP: Hello, thank you very much I have a little bigger problem, and it is that I just bought the deo pro small and in the computer destined for this tablet when I install any driver the mouse (trackpad) is disabled, at first I thought it was the configuration (that is disabled when it detects another mouse), but when I connect any other usb mouse right there the trackpad returns and both work (trackpad and usb mouse) please help what can I do? because the idea is to use it with a laptop and not be carrying an additional mouse. Thank you so much

    Thank you for a great video; based on this either Deco Pro or Deco 03 are safe choices for a budget friendly 1st tablet.
    You have reviewed both Deco 3 and Pro; would you choose this over Deco 3?
    I am slightly torn between these two options (Deco Pro SMALL and Deco 03 Medium) --> Pro has tilt function (don't require it at least yet) and more advanced control wheel, BUT Deco 03 is wireless, screen estate slightly bigger and RPS (response rate) is higher 266 (vs. Deco Pro ~200).
    Especially regarding to last differencce: do you recall if there was any noticable difference in lag compared to Deco 03 you've reviewed last year? (Based on what I found, RPS of 200+ should be enough, but was there a better response on the Deco 03?)

    • @01_zenyobi
      @01_zenyobi 4 года назад +5

      Deco Pro is way better.
      It has way cooler design that even win Red Dot and Good Design Award. The body also build better for left hand user.
      The tablet itself has more button (8 buttons and 2 wheel, 1 physical and 1 virtual wheel). The Deco 03 only have 6 button and one wheel.
      The pen is better since it would hold the Nib better so it won't roll to the flat side (even Wacom haven't achieve this yet).
      While the XP pen Deco 03 have their ususal pen that would roll to the flat side after drawing sometime. Not a big deal, since Wacom tablet have this problem too.
      The texture is scratch resistant and won't worn off easily, and it won't eat Nib like breakfast. Even if your Nib needs to be replaced, you already get 8 replacement. And even if you run out of replacement, there's 100 Nib pack of replacement for 10 dollar (yeah, 100 nibs. It's overkill, but useful).
      On the other hand, Deco 03 had easily worn texture after some time of working. It's not a big deal too, since worked texture can still be drawn on. Also Wacom Intuos pro Pth-650 had this problem too anyway.
      Now, let's talk about size. The active area of the Deco Pro Small maybe sound smaller that Deco 03. But actually, they both at the same range of Wacom Medium tablet size range (8×5 - 11×6 range). So it won't make a big difference to be considered as a factor.
      Then, about response rate, that's not a real thing. It's hard to actually count the response rate of Nowadays tablet without specialized hardware or High speed camera. That's why its not necessary to be take Into factor.
      And last, the wireless. It's really bad because it has delay even in real close range. It's so bad that its better to consider that this tablet doesn't have wireless functionality at all.

      @@01_zenyobi Hi, thank you for your thorough reply.
      I've bought myself the Deco Pro already a couple of weeks ago and have been very satisfied. So basically I agree with all the points you're making. Sizewise it's more than enough and having the double scroll wheel + 8 buttons there are plenty shortcuts you can assign. Durable made; e.g. my daughter used accidently the other side of the pen on the tablet, but no visible scratches on the surface.

    Don't usually ask explicitly for advice myself, but I'd been really conflicted on the decision here. I've got a Huion H950P and its held up, but I've also basically only ever used Huion and wondered how others hold up and actually feel to use. Would you say there's really anything much different in terms of feel and performance to justify buying this and using it over the H950P? The wheel, look, and Android function look appealing, but I'm still hesitant.

    • @01_zenyobi
      @01_zenyobi 4 года назад

      If you really need Android functionality, just keep using the H950P. All you had to do is Upgrade your H950P firmware to the newest firmware using Huion Firmware tool.
      Don't bought XP pen if all you need is for Android functionality (except G640S). Because XP pen use all of the tablet active area for Android, which means it would be tiring for your arm because you need to move so much.
      while Huion Only use 1/3 part of it so it would smaller and match with the screen and making it not too big. So it would be comfortable and not tiring your arm.

      I got this answer from bringing the question to a good tablet blog :
      "Hey there,
      You have a good question there!
      I would say that all the tablets from Wacom, Huion, and XP-Pen (these three being the 3 I think are the best right now) that I have tried are relatively the same in terms of performance, but somewhat different in terms of feel. For other companies, the performance is hit-or-miss and is often quite a bit worse than the main 3.
      With regards to Wacom, Huion, and XP-Pen, like I said earlier their pens perform to around the same quality, but the feel of their tablets are slightly different.
      -For instance, Wacom and XP-Pen usually use very rough textures, whereas Huion uses smoother textures (although they’re trying rougher ones on newer tablets). A rougher texture feels more like drawing on paper, but it causes pen nibs to wear more and the texture eventually wears off after a fair bit of use, so the texture type is a bit of trade-off and is individual preference.
      -Another difference is that Wacom pen nibs move very little from min to max pressure, whereas Huion and XP-Pen pen nibs move a bit more. Because of this, drawing with Wacom’s pen feels a bit “harder”, while Huion and XP-Pen pens feel springy-er. Again, this is individual preference and doesn’t affect drawing performance.
      When it comes to the XP-Pen Deco Pro, I wouldn’t say it’s worth buying a whole new tablet just to replace your working Huion H950P.
      The pen performance of the Huion H950P is just about as good as the pen performance on the XP-Pen Deco Pro, so all you would be getting is a rougher textured surface, Android compatibility (if I’m not mistaken, the H950P has that too, and you can ask Huion support about it), and the touch/physical wheel. I don’t think there’s any advantage to the XP-Pen Deco Pro aside from that.
      I hope that helps,"
      Nikage

      @@01_zenyobi I wish huion was a little less springy.currently its impossible to go from high pressure to low pressure as the pen nib would be pressed and won't release unless you lift off the pen. The xp pen deco pro has a different nib. It looks like wacoms nibs. Not like the huion nib which has a spring like structure. I wish I went for this xp pen deco pro. I realized that I really don't like display tablets. Some offset issues makes me look at the cursor anyway so what's the point. I just wish huion releases a different pen for the kamvas pro series

      @01_zenyobi 4 года назад +2

      @@kiren3168 Hmm ? What Huion do you use ? H950P ? Hs610 ?
      Impossible, it's either you got Defective tablet or pen, or you got Hs610 pressure jump problem..
      Its always possible to go from high to low, my friend were able to do that easily (in his Huion H640P, H950P, H1060P, Hs610 with the same pen, as he own all of them and test them in digitalarttabletguides.wordpress.com/)
      Edit: Well, after reading your comment carefully, it seems you got a Defective Pen !! You can contact Huion for this problem and use the 1-Year-Warranty to get pen replacement (or bought it yourself if the warranty is over. It only cost 20-30$ for the pen depends on your country).
      And also, The Huion Kamvas series uses PW500 (or PW507 for some) that were less springy to lower the tension that were given to the screen..
      Still, It were based of PW100 pen from Huion battery free pens.

      @@01_zenyobi Hi thank you for your comment. I am struggling with the PW507 pen. It came with the huion Kamvas pro 16. I love the tablet very high quality it's just that the pen nib feels flimsy and hard to maintain. The tablet is very sensitive to pressure but the pen nib retracts a little bit on the very high end and between the mid range and low range. So basically when I press it lightly it retracts a little bit and then when I press heavily it retracts a lot. And while it's pressed down I can go from the high end to the low end as the nib would be pressed a little inside the tablet and the only way to achieve the lightest strokes would be to lift off the pen to release the nib. I don't know maybe it's how the pen is designed and not a faulty pen. I really like huion (they improved their calibration now too) I just wish they would wok on their pens nibs. I really want a firm nib not a flimsy one

I configured the trackpad to zoom in and zoom out and once the cursor was stuck i had to zoom in zoom out several times and then the cursor would move...its weird...even the tech support was unable to resolve the issue which simply means the testing of the latest driver for mac was not done properly. The application I tested it on is photoshop cc 2018 and even on plain screen I experienced similar issue . A great tablet ruined by poor drivers and poor support! I have a very bad experience with the Deco PRO on OSX 10.12.6 Sierra, Tablet Driver XP-PenMac(20190805)
    Very mixed results in different applications (e.g. Sketchbook, ArtRage, Tayasui Sketches, Photoshop, Krita etc.)
    In most cases, I do not get smooth lines, nor full pressure sensitivity. From time to time I see some jittering/jaggies in straight lines. Tilt funktion does not work at all. For instance, Photoshop does display the tilt angle in the small preview, also the cursor shape reflects the angle... but as soon as you start drawing it reverts to zero angle!?!
    The driver preference window has that pressure level/curve, and below I should see the pressure in a progress bar from 0 - 8k. It displays something, but this is far from smooth and accurate. I try to increase the pressure as slow as possible, but the bar is jumping in large steps.
    Can anyone confirm this behavior? I assume it is driver related. I hope it is no hardware issue of the pen or tablet?!
    (BTW, I have a 12+ years old WACOM A5 wide tablet, with only 1k pressure level and tilt. That one works smooth as hell! Oh, yes, I have removed the tablet and its drivers before testing the new device)

Vertically it draws a regugal line, horizontally it has a thicker shape and draws a shade. Is this the normal behavior? The PEN tilt seem to have an effect on the opacity. That's all.
