I've watched many hours of RUclips golf lessons. You are my favourite coach. Thank you Danny for giving us handicappers simple and easy to follow instructions. I'll know I'll never be a scratch golfer but your lessons keep the dream alive of getting there.
Golf is such a great game but can be very frustrating. People need great teachers like yourself to simplify the movements of the golf swing like you do.You are definitely one of my favorite instructors because of your ability to keep it simple. Keep up the good work Danny,we appreciate you!
Danny I've watched RUclips videos for years and taken dozens of lessons. You make a complex thing simple in ALL of your vids. Your the GOAT. Thank you.
Thank you, Danny. This may be the best online lesson I've ever seen. I tried it out today at the range. I hit some of the sweetest irons in my life (and I'm 70) by applying what you teach here. it was a revelation. When I'd mix in the odd snap hook, I knew exactly why, and could fix it immediately. I found the lesson transferred to the driver very well, too. For anyone else who comes to the link, my advice is to do all the drills Danny suggests here, in order. When you get to hitting balls, first take it back part way, as he shows, then the rest of the way, and swing through. It worked wonderfully for me. I drove home a happy man.
Thx Danny you really are the golfing messiah. You have an uncanny knack of producing a video on exactly the thing I'm struggling with at any given time. Thx for all your hard work and great too see your subscriber count climbing. Don't forget to remember me when you're rich and famous lol
Danny, just want to say you pretty much taught me how to play golf just from your channel. I found your simple tips with the iron shots most helpful...helped out my shot consistency and direction control. Many thanks from Taiwan.
Loving this! Watch some videos of yours in the evening and then take one of them straight out to the practice range the next day. Its like climbing a mountain one video at the time. Great work Danny!
Thank you for your videos so easy to understand them I love love them I have been golfing for many years and some where I lost my swing You have given me confidence to find it again. Now looking forward to some changes for the better thanks again marie
Thanks Danny for all your lessons. You helped me tremendously with my driver and chip shots but I have been struggling to hit my 7 and 8 irons. I even tried hitting 7 and 8 hybrids, but at set up, the club heads looked too closed leading me to hit pull shots. Going back to my 7 and 8 irons, and will use your backswing take away tips.
The punch move is incredibly effective. It opens up the right side (as in your simplifying the swing video) and automatically gets the right hip to move back (or deep) without any conscious effort. Promotes weight shift without swaying (my tendency). I've been looking for a simple drill to practice at home and on the course. This is it. Thanks.
Great simple break down Danny..Man recently i've had some trouble with my Irons..i finally put a mirror behind me at the Range- and i realized at the top of my backswing my hand/club was facing screwy positions...so im going back to the basics- and its helping immensely. Thank you Danny!
Thank you Danny, I've been watching all your videos . My timing and tempo is a real big issue for me consequently I have such anerratic game.101 in my head is made such a difference. I use it now on all my shot making .
Abe Mitchell's golf swing was admired by Ben Hogan. One of the few. "Down to Scratch" by Mitchell says this about the takeaway: "Suppose you are sweeping grass by left to right sweeps with a broom held like a golf club, with the right hand below the left. You would press down and slightly roll the wrists from right to left as you made the sweeps from left to right. That is precisely the initial wrist action for the golf swing. It tends to keep the left elbow in, it prevents the right hand from lifting and it gets the right foot working from the very beginning...." The above sets the club and wrists in the SLOT from the beginning of the swing. Rolling the wrists left to right to get club shaft parallel with the target line in takeaway is totally opposite to above. Rolling wrists left to right in BS means the wrists have to roll right to left in DS. ie never in the SLOT and hands will have to "hit"
Good video Danny. Really made sense. I turn inside too early - and will focus on getting that first movement right. About the shank...loved the way you carried on. Brilliant. Keep up the good work.
Richard Bailey, great to here Richard...I cannot tell you how many golfers I’ve seen who once they have perfected the takeaway find their ability to get back to impact so much easier
You must be psychic. I hooked my way off the planet in yesterday’s medal. I was sure it was down to takeaway and decided to do a RUclips search this morning, when up pops your video and the answer to my woes. 👍
My backswing is so inconsiderate with the driver, which gets me in trouble. I know from my backswing when I will hit a solid shot. Much thanks for suggesting ways I can get more consistent. Truly wish I had access to you as you are one of the best instructors online. Who knows I just might try a video lesson.
Hi Danny I tried this today after seeing your video. I am not an experienced player or particularly flexible as I also follow Julian Mellor for the same reason. I actually managed to get the feeling and lined up my shots so much better. I am very grateful thanks for the videos and thistle you use. I now only watch yours and the Positive Impact style to avoid confusion. I was hitting straighter today, so all good, apart from the weather. 😀
I'm an avid golfer and the only time I run into problems is when I let my arms take over my take away turn so this is the best video I've seen that addresses this. I understand the turn taking the club back to the position where it's parallel with the ground, but what's the process to get it from there to the top of the back swing? Is it still all shoulder turn or a combination of shoulder and arms? And if it is a combination how can I keep my arms from continually trying to take over my backswing? Thanks for the great video and tips!
This is really helpful for what I’m working on. Very well explained. The top you are wearing forms a perfect triangle from front on, which adds a great visual element. Did you choose it to add to the demonstration aspect?
Thanks for this Danny, I mentioned last week about my sway at take away and this is perfect for me so will try today and I know it will improve. Great video, keep up your great work.
What is the wrist movement in the one-piece takeaway that you seem to be doing? It looks like you are pronating or bowing your left wrist at 1:18 of the video? I've watched and shared a few of your videos. They are great! Thank you! I am still really struggling with fat shots and have watched your video on that several times. It's coming! How do I send you a short video?
I have also really been concentrating on my left hand rotating down and square through impact. I have also been using the ground and really feeling it as my source of power. When it all comes together I have just smoked my driver further than I ever have Even my best friend has made comments on a few of my drives
hi Danny....great video....went out yesterday and I have to tell you that this was the ONLY drill I have taken to my course that produced greater distance and accuracy. Is it ok to use this drill (staircase) with all long game shots? I used it from 50 yds and it worked perfectly. Of course I had to accommodate the drill to the length of shot but I can tell you it works beautifully. Do you have any problems with using this drill for all shots? Thanks Peter
If I break down the take away - pause then step thumb up to upward complete the rest of back swing - it seem helping my backs wing pace greatly and ensure I am not rush . Can I play this 'take away - pause - then completing the backswing on the golf course? Will it hurt my distance ? Thanks for shedding light on this question.
it can certainly cost you a few yards as it may disrupt the flow but its a great way of getting the feeling of where you need to be. From there you can increase the speed
Love the videos, Danny. One question though. In this video you say to keep the hipline level (at about the 5:10 mark). yet in the "Hip" video you just released, you say you want the right hip slightly higher than the left on the backswing. I'm probably not understanding something, but wanted to ask. Thanks!
Paul Backman, great question Paul, the hips move on a slight incline up...I should have said in the video above they feel more level if you are a swayer as people who sway move their hips on too much of a Tilt. It’s a bad sentence I used and thanks for picking it up...such feedback will help me get better
Great explanation Danny. I've been taking the club away shallow and on the inside for years and years, hopefully this will crack it. Can you do a vid on the right hand at impact please. Struggling with hooks lately and sure I'm rolling my right hand over at impact. Should it be slightly hinged back at impact and square to target line, then roll over 🤔
Hey Danny. Are you talking about procedures for a two plane swing, one plane swing, stack and tilt? This method may not work for all? Please advise. Thank you.
Terry Holloway, yes you could check out my irons versus driver video. Treat Hybrid like an iron off the ground and a little more like a driver off the tee
Hi Danny, Can you please do a video on Trail arm on the back swing and downswing. I Struggle with Flying elbow on the backswing and then it causes steap angle on the downswing. Thanks
Outstanding lesson- from club over right thigh to parallel to toe line, you mention "softening" of hands. Are you actively bending right wrist back to achieve this or is this something that happens passively?
Leonard Dzubow, it generally happens naturally. It does depend what stage of the learning process you are at. I ask some of my clients who are too wristy to feel they don’t use any wrists at all knowing full well they will still use them just this time hopefully just a little. For others who are a little wooden I may ask them to hinge heir wrists when their hands begin to hit their right thigh. It all depends on the individual and what you are currently doing
Hello Danny, I have been watching your videos recently love how you explain things. After watching your videos on the golf club takeaway I realize that i fan my driver head open in my take away. I hit a fade with my driver but not with my irons! I have been told that I it hit a fade for different reasons but no one ever has told me that it was my take away! WOW! Thank you so much for the video. Question: I see you using an iron in this video, can I also use my driver in this drill?
Danny. I've struggled with slice. Tried all sorts to put it right. Altered my grip ect. Watched this video and bingo it was my takeaway. Thought my takeaway was good. Nooooooo. Thanks so much Danny
Same thing here brother! Been struggling with a slice for the past few years. My takeaway was the issue. Now I hit a straighter ball, some with a draw, and the occasional fade. Working on getting more consistency now but it felt great to hit the ball differently
Hi Danny. So there’s no arm lift to start the backswing? Once you get the club to parallel do you raise the arms straight up? Or is the turning of the chest what brings the club up to the top? And when the wrists cock what angle should they be at? butt end pointing down to ball? Outside ball line? Thank you
Hi Danny. I like your lessons but like all tuition no one ever shows the swing from above. Why don't you consider a drone so we can get a top down perspective on how far your taking the club back and behind and the line of the club from take away to hit to finish. Also have you considered a view from behind as a frontal view means I have to reverse everything to follow. Just a thought.
Once you get the club parell Danny just hing and straight up then straight down?some of us can't really make full rotation maybe just half to 3 quarters swinging I'm trying like hell on some of your drlls, still no power bring the club back straight down pushing into the ground etc. That's really complicated for me 😁 I'm only getting like 135 from a 7 iron so on and so when all the other guys hitting 150 plus guess it's a mind thing for me don't know
Who would think that hitting a golf ball requires so much science.! When I was a teenager I could walk up to a golf ball and hit it a mile, dead straight. Now I have to do more calculations than an Apollo space craft crew.
I was the same way when I was a kid, P. Mac. When we get older we think about it too much! The sports psychologist Bob Rotella says don't think about your mechanics when you're on the golf course. Save it for the range. One swing thought, maybe, and no more. That's good advice. Just wish I could follow it.
Mike, Bigg-Wither the club is at 45 but when the shaft is also angled 45 from the ground. It moves to parallel when the shaft is parallel to ground and foot line
Danny, thanks we are still kind of in April of golf season here in NYC area. Good advice in your video. Sent a note to your website on a video idea. Best Ken
how does this tie in with the new "release" video where you are having us put the club at 45* then up and back down on that 45* angle?? They both can't be right can they???? Thanks, Gary
Mary Denesha, hi Gary, great question...the 45 degree is only a reference to help you feel where you need get to during delivery...you may put yourself into that position artificially at the start but then begin to move as freely as you can into it afterwords. Hope this clarify things a little, remember just milliseconds before it reaches the 45 degree angle it will be parallel to the ground and in line with your feet. Good to know and to feel the static positions but then you must try to swing freely through them
@@DanielMaude It is indeed! We have just started our channel, so would love to collaborate, happy to have you put up for a few days at one of the amazing villas on teh course :P

Danny Maude sounds a plan thanks Danny and yes a tubby 66 year young thanks for the rely Danny
Charlie Brownless, let me know how you get on
Danny Maude that I will
Once you get the club parell Danny just hing and straight up then straight down?some of us can't really make full rotation maybe just half to 3 quarters swinging I'm trying like hell on some of your drlls, still no power bring the club back straight down pushing into the ground etc. That's really complicated for me 😁 I'm only getting like 135 from a 7 iron so on and so when all the other guys hitting 150 plus guess it's a mind thing for me don't know
Patrick Mcgee this video might be a better bet: ruclips.net/video/ojCC74jQSMQ/видео.html
Any stretches to help the body/hip movement? I struggle to keep the left arm straight and often find my swing being all arms.
make sure you check out this video as I think it could help:ruclips.net/video/GXX61LiW0Qg/видео.html
@@DanielMaude Thanks for replying Danny...this makes a ton of sense. Working on it stages like you suggest...still a work progress!
Andrew Young keep it going Andrew, all the best 👊🏻
Who would think that hitting a golf ball requires so much science.! When I was a teenager I could walk up to a golf ball and hit it a mile, dead straight. Now I have to do more calculations than an Apollo space craft crew.
I like the get up and hit it approach...start there
I was the same way when I was a kid, P. Mac. When we get older we think about it too much! The sports psychologist Bob Rotella says don't think about your mechanics when you're on the golf course. Save it for the range. One swing thought, maybe, and no more. That's good advice. Just wish I could follow it.
Thank you , great advice
Dieter Herten you are very welcome
In another one of your videos dealing with wrists, you talk about taking away at 45 degrees. How does that align with the advice in this video?
Mike, Bigg-Wither the club is at 45 but when the shaft is also angled 45 from the ground. It moves to parallel when the shaft is parallel to ground and foot line
Good drills! Thanks Danny!! Today's drills!! LOL :-))
Take away is key part of swing.
It is indeed Ken,
Danny, thanks we are still kind of in April of golf season here in NYC area. Good advice in your video. Sent a note to your website on a video idea. Best Ken
How do you turn? Do you pull the club with your right oblique?
Jancen, I feel it’s more of a push from the left oblique
Nice shank at 10:26.
Yannih playing for the dog leg right 😂
Nice one piece takeaway.
Next action is Wrist hinge swing or wrist coke swing?? I m confused TT
See my previous answer to one of your questions
@@DanielMaude OK i will check it! Thank you
how does this tie in with the new "release" video where you are having us put the club at
45* then up and back down on that 45* angle?? They both can't be right can they????
Thanks, Gary
Mary Denesha, hi Gary, great question...the 45 degree is only a reference to help you feel where you need get to during delivery...you may put yourself into that position artificially at the start but then begin to move as freely as you can into it afterwords.
Hope this clarify things a little, remember just milliseconds before it reaches the 45 degree angle it will be parallel to the ground and in line with your feet.
Good to know and to feel the static positions but then you must try to swing freely through them
Got it.......thank you!!!
Nice one Danny, got a feeling that a few of us may have to put outer club a bit further away from the ball.
mick19421, such a common problem Mick, this is often the first thing most golfers should work on
Let us know if you ever come to Bali!
Lovely place
@@DanielMaude It is indeed! We have just started our channel, so would love to collaborate, happy to have you put up for a few days at one of the amazing villas on teh course :P
SkinsGolf TV sounds lovely, maybe one day 😁
Great vid Danny, but how do you get your shoulders level at address when your right hand should be lower than your left at address? cheers graham
Graham Smith if I said that in this video ignore me, they shouldn’t be level
exactly what my pro told me in a lesson saturday
Great! hope it goes well
@@DanielMaude he's done a great job, 28hc at start of this year, swingu now says 10hc, only started playing last September, pb is 5 over
Does this apply to driver and hybrid. Thanks
Absolutely Eoin 👍
Excellent advice!!👍🏽
Thanks Philip
Should you hinge your wrists early? And does this takeaway work for all clubs, or just long irons?
