Good morning Martyn. its one of these house-hold jobs that we tend to forget about. and that's to clean up. but yes it does make a difference. but sometimes it can make the layout look to clean. take care Tony.
Absolutely Tim. when the summer comes around there will be less time to do these kind of jobs. its a shame that i have messed the area up again with the new junction. but that is another story. take care Tony
Good morning Kevin. that's true. our hobby is about what we can create, and also to have fun in what we do. thanks again for your kind words. cheer's for now Tony.
Dear Tony, funny to see that on the line of the non stopper to New Hassle, there’s also a non stop investigation by Hercule Poirot going on. Must be the infamous Tyne Dock diamond murder. Cool to see the cleanup. Love the billboards!! Awesome addition to the Tyne Dock retaining walls. Cheerio
Good evening Vincent, Hercule Poirot is hoping to clean up his investigation so he can move onto the next case. The clean up is well justified. The posters do add that extra something to those high walls. thanks again my friend. Cheer's Tony.
Dear Sir, Great video, as always! Thanks! I liked the posters, specially the "Vote Labour" one! Here we have the "Worker's Party!" (Partido dos Trabalhadores, PT) Cheer from Brazil!
Those posters a little bit before my time but fond memories of my childhood seeing similar ones in my area. It’s great building those little scenes and bringing them to life. Looking forward to the next one my friend. Have a great weekend.
Good morning Mr rock n roll. Kingsway do many posters 1960s 70s 80s. but they are great wall fillers on public roads. have a great weekend. all the best Tony.
Just had to comment.....lol.I used to rush down to Dover Marine station after Sunday school to watch the Golden Arrow pull in ,the arrow and flags on the front of the loco ,the lamps glowing, people used to wave....so many memories, seeing your Pullman, the memories came flooding back 😬
Good evening David. Thank you for sharing your memories. that must have been an awesome sight see the golden arrow. i have seen some old footage. buts its never the same as seeing it for real. cheer's my friend. Tony.
Nice video Tony. Cleaning the dust of the tops of the platforms and buildings makes such a difference!. I like the idea of gluing clear plastic under the figures might have to give that a go myself. - Nicholas.
Good morning Nicholas. its the only reason, why i put clear plastic on these figures is just for that purpose. cleaning and changing the scene. many thanks my friend. cheer's Tony.
Hi Tony, a lovely half hour sharing your layout - a bit of maintenance, a bit of modelling and of course trains running! I always enjoy catching up with you. I particularly enjoyed the redundant siding with the rusty wheel sets at the end of Tyne Dock platform that I hadn't noticed before. Your attention to detail never fails to impress. Cheers, Dave.
Hello. Its been a while since you last commented. its great to hear from you again. it did take a long time to get my first 100 subs. but yes i am guessing people are liking what they are seeing. thanks again my friend. all the best Tony.
Capstons extra strength cigarettes my father smoked them and Players. blue an white was South shields corporation colours so good choice for your model I still remember the smells of Tyne Dock and the stotty cakes you got at the bakery on Stanhope Road
Good morning James, just reading your comment. has made me think how many of the brands have disappeared over the years. at the bottom of Williamson Street used to be a bakers. a i used pass on the way to school. oh boy the smells made you hungry even when we just had our breakfast. oh those good old days....cheer's for now Tony.
Hi Tony, that vacuum cleaner looked like an alien space ship that was up to no good. 😂 I like your idea of keeping all your bus shelters the same colours, namely South Shields Corporation bus colour scheme of blue and yellow. I can remember the Shields trolley buses in those colours as a young lad. I like the posters, too. I have fond memories of watching the man with his big brush apply the glue and with skill apply the poster and get it up on the board squarely and without any tears or wrinkles. I think that I prefer the traditional driver’s view of a cab ride video. The passenger one has a fish eyed lens view which is not natural, unless you unfortunately have bad eyes. Looking forward to seeing the further developments you have eluded to. Best, Jason.
Hello Jason. i agree with the fish eyes. i am not sure why that is happening. but never mind. maybe its down to the camera lens. they are so many bus shelters on the layout now that it was inevitable that i would have to give them all the same colour scheme eventually. i very vaguely remember the blue buses. I now have a new vacuum cleaner as that packed up not long after filming. it must be 15 year old. its done well though. thanks again for commenting. take care and look after yourself. cheer's for now Tony .
Another great watch Tony, them posters really look the business. If folk are still wondering why those on Tyne Dock have ice cubes on their feet, they should really try standing on it, at this time of year. They'll soon realise why 😂. My late grandmother, told me about Capstan Full Strenth ciggys, she said her Dad used to smoke them. She said, she had tried one, one day and they were so strong they'd wind a horse. She never tried smoking again.
Good evening Micky. I am slowly catching up on the comments. Lol. love the witty take on the ice cubes. Slippery customers over at Tyne Dock. lol. cheer's for now Tony.
Hi Tony love the posters what would look good is half cover one poster with a different poster and have a man up a ladder replacing the poster bucket of glue on ladder and the rest of posters on the floor Rob W
Hello Robert. Kingsway do have a great range of 1950s 1960s posters. I like the idea of someone putting up a advertising poster. many thanks again for commenting. cheer's for now Tony.
Hi Tony, great tips on cleaning, particularly long wiring and loose items, easy peasey when you know how! Signs make such a difference and I do indeed have the same sheets…..OMO was Old Man Out when packet placed in street facing window. See you have super flexi track - the fish eye makes it look like its Yuri Geller’s layout. Still nothing ventured, nothing gained - it was an amusing viewing, perhaps what some of you characters might see after a pub crawl on the layout now you have seven pubs! Ha ha. All the best Stephen. My panel is now all working and the CBs configured and tested - a big job finished.
Good evening Stephen. Great tip i may have to get some street names made, because i have a few roads that need them. Great news about your control panel, it wont long before you are running trains. LoL Yuri Geller. i was not expecting the footage to come out like that. its good fun. take care my friend. cheer's for now Tony.
Great cleanup Tony. Tyne Dock station looks great now. Love those posters and was quite surprised when you said you didn’t remember Capstan cigarettes. Not something I ever smoked but certainly remember seeing them about. Thanks for sharing your cleaning tips. I was thinking about gluing my passengers down but maybe having a rethink now. Cheers, Roy.
Hi Roy. It probably because they weren't smoked in our house. as me mum smoked players. and dad smoked golden Virginia. thank you for commenting. have a great weekend Tony.
Nice to see a bit of layout maintenance, other than track cleaning Tony. You just need a Dylington Custard Company ghost sign on the wall now 😁......cheers James 🙂👍
Good morning James. Very true a layout is not just about the track cleaning. as you have rightly said. Thank you for commenting. it has put a smile on my face this morning. cheer's Tony.
@TONYNORTHEASTERN have you seen the ones Scale Model Scenery have made, based on our layout. We have on the water tower, you can see it on the videos 😁....cheers James 🙂👍
Wow! Tyne Dock is squeaky clean ! Great video Tony as always. Posters look great. It's amazing how much detail you can add. Does it ever end? Can't wait for the next project. The points will really make a difference and of course the signal box interior in your own inimitable style !! Brilliant mate. All the very best. Simon. 😀😀🚂🚂
Hello Simon. Detailing the layout never ends as you will see in the next video. at the moment i am doing lots of little project before i get stuck into the next big thing. which is Little Haven. until next time thank you for commenting. cheer's Tony.
Posters, it's these details that help create interest, good stuff Don't know if anyone has already suggested this but just a wee thought maybe to have a poster in the process of being put up, have a chap on ladders finishing up brushing a quarter segment, say, of one poster over an existing poster? Have a good week, James
Good to see Tyne Dock, Tony, I have noticed in your layout tours. I guess you built it before I joined your happy throng! I do agree that sticking items down. Along with the examples you gave It also reduces the risk of accidentally knocking and breaking something. A little movement can prevent minor disaster....sometimes at least. Thanks again, Tony. You're always an inspiration. All the best. Peter.
Hello Peter. Absolutely sticky things down does run the risk of breakages. Chimney pots are the worst for breaking. hence why scratch builds have tooth picks running through them. if i knock the building the whole structure moves. thanks again for commmenting. stay safe Tony.
Hi Tony, great watch and we seem to forget about the all important housework element of running a layout.. Good to see you have a schedule at North Eastern railway.. All the best my friend.. Chris n Jules
Absolutely Chris. if these little jobs are not done they could easily make the layout seem grimy if its not done. its great to hear from you. stay safe. give my regards to Jules, cheer's for now Tony & Laura.
Hi Tony, being a Shields lad I am surprised you have not heard of Capstans, they were about back in my youth. As always a great step back in time with you and your fantastic layout, thanks.
Hi Peter. Yep its true. i guess its because my dad smoked Golden Holburn roll ups. while my mum smoked Regal. thanks again for a great comment. cheer's for now Tony.
Hi Tony, don’t talk to me about cobwebs!!! No sooner have I got rid of them they’re back again, lol! Good little video this one, I tend to have a hoover up every month or so because my cabin does get very dusty. Mind you the way I’ve weathered my platforms they look dusty anyway so I might get away without hoovering those!!! Really like those posters they’ll be plenty on Exehaven eventually. I’ve just ordered some of those paint pens too, they’ve been on my list for a while and seeing you use them prompted me! Have a great weekend mate, cheers for now, John
Good morning John. you would think a loft would be a clean environment for a model railway. but there is always some dust about. especially when we are continuously working on our layouts. Paint pens are great for touching up those edges. and they are cheap alternative to paints. many thanks again. cheer's Tony.
The truth is Tony following the NE inquiry, the board has put you in charge of a broom. Next video you will be cleaning the locos, then working your way up to getting your drivers ticket for the branch line running only. Love your videos as always, Kind Regards Andrew
Good morning Andrew. these cleaning tasks. we do keep putting them off. its alright to clean the track but we always for get to clean the rest of the layout. especially after years of running the model railway. all the best my friend. cheer's Tony
I really enjoyed watching this Tony as always. Other RUclips modelers often talk about track cleaning but they rarely show layout cleaning. It certainly justifies your method of not gluing anything in place unless absolutely necessary! And the whole station came out beautifully. I wonder if it's possible to get any 1950's 00 gauge street cleaners? A few dotted around here and there would be novel and also a reminder to keep the layout clean 😄 Thank you once more for sharing. I've said it before and I will say it again, you really stand head and shoulders above most with your widely varied offerings to those watching. Take care and happy modeling 😊
Good evening Marv. I like your idea. of the street cleaners with their old wheel barrows. there used to be lots of them around. before the road sweepers came along. thanks again for commenting. cheer's for now Tony.
Nice update Tony. Ive been cleaning my layout systematically recently, they seem to attract dust and spiders. Youve never heard of Capstan Full Strength cigarettes, blimey, i used to work with a guy in engineering who chain smoked them all the time, he did cough alot lol. The posters really do brighten up the walls cheers Andy
Good evening Andy. That's the thing with layouts they are hard to keep in good condition. especially the scenery. I packed in smoking years ago. my last smoke was in 1999-2000 new years eve. and then i just stopped. thanks again for commenting. cheer's for now. Tony.
I am surprised you didn't varnish over the dust as a natural weather Tony 🤣, The Bill boards look better, but I am shocked about you not aware of Capstan (cigarette) after all in the 50's to the very late 70's was adds were common for smoking, i(remember the Hamlet adds on TV)? its only lately smoking is not the norm (thankfully). Also I was dragged up in the 60's/70's fly posting or adverts in shop windows for Circus/Fairs or a local pop group was common this must have happened before that time you are modeling! Do enjoy seeing 10800 in the background, far better than any Deltic, But that's my opinion!
Good morning Vinny. Cool idea LOL. with all the dust and grit it may have worked. I have never heard of the capstan cigarettes. Now John Player i remember those because my dad use give up the cards. i do remember the hamlet ads. the Bauldy guy trying to get his photo taken use to crack me up. Its a hard choice for me as i do like both. Deltics and North British. i may have to toss a double headed coin to choose. take care all the best Tony.
Good morning Jon. a very fair point. things do get broken if they are glue down. hence all the buildings here are loose. and now and again they do take a knock. and they just move and not break. the odd chimney still gets broke but they can be glue back on. thanks again for commenting. cheer's for now Tony.
Thanks for sharing, Tony. One or two points... Capstan cigarettes - I do remember them, they weren't as rough as Woodbines but that's about all! I was sorry to see that the passenger's eye view didn't work dure to the 'fish-eye' camera lens. Finally, I keep seeing shots of 'Kerosene Castle', as Turbine 18000 was known on Western Region, but she's always stationary. Any chance of seeing her haul a train? I was never lucky enough to see her when she was running so would be grateful if we could see her move on your layout. All the best, Ken
Good morning Ken. interesting thoughts in your comment. the passenger view was as good as i was expecting. but we do test and try these things to see what works. Now the we are talking Kerosene Castle. last year i visited the Didicot railway Museum. where they have one of these Turbine locomotives. its just a shell at the moment. but it looks like something out of Flash Gordon. But yes she does need a run out. watch this space. all the best my friend. Tony.
Do you want and give my station a spring clean Tony lol. Your posters look great and they have sparked a memory of mine, the first TV advert that I can remember (in black and white), can you remember yours? Mine was a Government one of a little boy walking with his mother they come along a crocodile, the boy starts to walk along the crocodile when it opens its month to which the little boy says, "look mum crocodile" to which she replies "yes dear I wonder if he is a good boy and cleans his teeth night and day". This is quiet bizarre as I saw on the TV yesterday that Labour (if elected) want to introduce cleaning teeth into schools. Thanks for sharing the clips around your layout these shots almost look real. Regards Barry..👍👏
He Barry. thank you for commenting. the TV advert that always come to mind is the PG Tips. monkeys tea party. we never had a colour TV until Later on. so everything was in Black n white. unless i went round to my grans as she had a colour TV. thanks again my friend. cheer;s for now Tony.
When it comes to cleaning, how do you clean (or dust) scenery, including trees? For me, cleaning the hard surfaces is pretty easy, and even with the grassy areas, I'll use a brush and "rake" the dust out to the nearest road where I can vacuum it up. But my layout is mostly rural, and it would be impossible to count how many trees there are. The thought of, uh, de-flocking them with a vacuum cleaner would take years off my life, so I know there are some trees on my layout that have twelve years (and counting) of dust on them.
Good morning. Cleaning trees would have to be done with great care, otherwise you end up with a early autumn, and have no leaves. i think your tips would be best with a very gentle brushing. and redo any patches with some scatter. that might come about from the cleaning. until next stay safe Tony
Good evening Tony that's the trouble with 50s 60s 70s and so on BR the just didn't care about the stations. Under staffed over worked and under paid. But good job they can call on Mr refabrication. There is a better way than cleaning haha just build a new layout ever year or so 😂 just kidding my friend well I will leave you to your postering. Oh don't forget bill posters will be prosecuted the poor old man.
Hello My friend. that is very true, back in the sixties the railways were being run down. but we can not let that happen to our own railways. lol. KEEP EM TIDY. oh i could never start over again. too many hours would be lost. sounds painful to start over. take care. cheer's for now Tony....
I dare say the Hole In The Wall Gang be able to have some nice cream cakes from Mrs Bakewell's Shop nearby, after a whip round from the good people on the platform, (excuse the pun). I hope they won't object to you cleaning up the station. I am inclined to think the station master at Tyne Dock will be pleased, especially if you manage to find Mrs Simm's false teeth. I am sure the poor women will be delighted and will be able to sell them on E-Bay to pay for a new set of third-hand hair curlers, from old Mrs Crab Apple.
The window veiw looks great. Such a different outlook. The tidy up went well and makes a difference. Thanks.
Good morning Martyn. its one of these house-hold jobs that we tend to forget about. and that's to clean up. but yes it does make a difference. but sometimes it can make the layout look to clean. take care Tony.
Always a good time to have a spring clean even when it is halfway through wintertime 😉
Absolutely Tim. when the summer comes around there will be less time to do these kind of jobs. its a shame that i have messed the area up again with the new junction. but that is another story. take care Tony
Nice to see you doing some housekeeping Tony, be careful Mrs P might be watching and giving you the job downstairs lol.
Too late Steve. she already has. Lol. many thanks for commenting. cheer's for now Tony.

Tony.
7 years of dust and grime, up north we call that 7 years of s**t 😂
Lol. Tez. your killing me, great comment. cheer's Tony.
Even back in the 70's, when I had my layout, I hated that job and nine times out of ten something would get broken during the process...grrrrr!
All the best,
Ken
Poor old Mrs Sims. up to her usual tricks again. LOL thanks again for commenting. cheer's for now Tony.
What was the thickness of the backing card you used to put the posters on Tony ? Thanks John
Good evening John, and thank you for commenting. the backing Card id 1mm thick. you can get it from the Range in A3 sheets. thanks again Tony.
that's lie a fish eye lens, not like a passenger.
I agree Kevin. but it was worth a try. cheer's for now Tony.
