@@wildbilltexas Me too. I agree. But well, Jeffrey always was kind of possesive with his bandmates and they were submissive to him just because he was the producer. They were even more talented but Jeff never wanted to explode their talent to the top. The typical media just sell the idea of Jeff always doing everything which is not true, this kind of energy and exciting songs would have never been in the world if was not due the rest of members who had this willpower, talent, and magic that brought to E.L.O. sound. I think this fits in with the story of "Time." Same with all the other bonus tracks in the CD re-release. This one works well as the last track, because in the end, the speaker realises that he will never again be with the one he loves. IMO, the whole album is an analogy of the development of people and how they change through time.
I think Jeff should have put Julie Don’t Live Here instead of Hold on Tight on the album. It’s a much stronger song and just as fitting. I guess he had to make cuts due to LP length.
Well, i prefer to see "Time" as something it calls itself - Sci-fi story of man transported to future and seeking return to his time. In the end he made it, but arrived much later then left.
@@A2L112 Actually i think it can, with When Time stood still. In my opinion Hold on tight always was kinda out of place, not really in the mood of album. @@krowta2062 Yes, i agree what both time stood still and Julie is quite depressing and this is probably reason they was cast out, group decided to go with more ambiguous ending for release. I dont think inclusion of those song would really "ruin" album, but it would make in something different. I, personally, not afraid of "unhappy endings" but everyone taste is different.
What really gets me about this one is that throughout the whole album - including the start of this song - the protagonist talks to his former lover in the second person - he's still trying to communicate with her. But at the very end, she is referred to in the third person - It's no longer "you" , it's "Julie". And Julie don't live Here Anymore. He's no longer talking to her, but about her. She has moved on, and he has to do the same.
Hey Spotify...it's the 40th anniversary of this album. Maybe...just maybe consider making a Time 40th anniversary edition and put this song along with 'when time stood still' and 'the bouncer.' Please...?

I believe the reason this song was struck from the album is due to it being cut down from a double album to a single album. In the narrative, this song takes place after he has returned to his own time, a little too late. On the released record, it's left kind of ambiguous as to whether he did go back or not. In 21st century man, it's concluded that he is a man who can not function in the future, and it ends somewhat optimistically with hold on tight, which contributes nothing to the story, yet implies there is still hope. What makes all of this especially interesting to me is that the eventually released tracks intended for the second part of the album illustrate that he does return home, but he has still lost his love to time, as he is more than a few years too late as addressed in this song. It's much more depressing. To me, the fact that this song is (in my opinion) the most fun and catchy song recorded for Time makes all of this even more compelling. The juxtaposition is brilliant. I think about this album more than any other I've ever listened to. It can be listened to and enjoyed on a superficial level due to Jeff Lynne's already established magical ability to write fun, creative, and interesting pop music that works no matter what the lyrics are (out of the blue is a beautiful and cohesive album in its music and arrangements, despite the lyrics to many of the songs being more or less a stream of consciousness). What makes Time, to me, his masterpiece is the second layer, the narrative, being both creative and emotionally moving. It rides on empathy. I apologize for making this five year late response so long-winded, I have just been thinking about this album a lot after hearing it for the first time a few months ago, and I needed to get this off my chest. Everyone I know, old or young, loves dismissing ELO as corny and forgettable. As a young man with a boomer's taste in music, discussions of my musical preferences are usually met with general confusion and indifference from people my age, and pleasant surprise from people older than me. For the latter group, it's simply not the case for ELO. Seems they heard too much of them. What a shame. To fresh ears, this music is brilliant and timeless. How fitting. Perhaps ELO was overplayed back in the day, but I refuse to let their legacy fade. Thank you.
I wandered through the town A town I knew so well, but it seemed so strange The wind blows cold... _I remember when I thought your street was paved with gold._
I walked along the street-- A street I'd walked along many times before... But things had changed _Everything I knew was gone, or rearranged._ Whoa whoa...
Quite simply one of the best ELO songs ever! 'Time' is my favourite album and means more to me than words can express, and this song fits perfectly with the concept. Much as I love 'Hold On Tight', that should have been the B-side, and this the penultimate track. Marvellous!
Just realized that the day I’m listening to this is the 39th anniversary of the Time album, August 1, 2020. Think I’m gonna have a Time Marathon all day!
I saw the concert from this tour.It was in Detroit. 3 years before, they had played before a crowd of 40,000 at the Siverdome. It had come out that half of the show they were lip-synching. So at this tour, the arena was less than half full. a lot of people held a grudge and missed a great concert. As far as them coming here for this tour, it seems unlikely now.
I bought the 'Time' album on vinyl the day it was released in August of 1981. I played it non-stop for nearly 2 months. At the time I wasn't buying 45rpm singles, so I never knew about 'Julie Don't Live Here Anymore' being a 'B' side single until the 'Afterglow' CD box set came out in the early 90's. The first time I heard 'Julie' when I bought the 'Afterglow' box set I was blown away. It was one of the best ELO songs I had NEVER heard lol. I did kick myself in the ass however as I could have been enjoying 'Julie Don't Live Here' back in 1981, and the nearly 10 years until I found it with 'Afterglow'.
Found this in my fathers 7" collection and cant believe it was just a b side????? not available on spotify or google or Amazon! so sad its not a hit for such a fantastic man! and his band
It was not on the original album released in 1981. It's on the B-Side of "Twilight". Later they added it to Time as a bonus track when the CD came out.
The song is amazing and the lyrics make sense with the story. However, I can see why it wasn't included in the end. If he has a way to find Julie instead of trying to send messages and dreams to the past then it changes the whole story. SHe's older and different but it *is* her and he could see her at any time to tell her at least what happened to him and why he disappeared back then. The only way it works, to me, is to be the closing song for the album. Then it takes a different tone and ultimately makes the album the tragic story that it always seemed to be to me. He does manage to go back to the age he's used to, but undershoots by a year or so and ends up in 82-83 instead of 1982. Julie has moved on, both in her heart and her house. After thinking of only her and wanting to go back, when he ultimately does he'll still never see *his* Julie again.
I got the strong teory that Futurama by Marc Groening is the Album Time's animated series. Think, one song is titled like 2095 a Futurama run on year 3000. Crazy!
i know this is a 3 year old comment but I don’t care, I love this song too much to ignore arguing in favor of it. Based on the original listing, it comes after The Way Life’s Meant To Be, meaning that story wise, the protagonist was still in 2095, meaning if Julie was BORN in 1981, she would be 114. She is certainly dead. Additionally, it’s revealed in The Way Life’s Meant to Be that Satellite 2 is just a new name for his old town. the way Jeff talks about everything he knew being gone means he’s in his old town, just a new version. If he was in a new place entirely, of course everything that he knows would “lie under”. Lastly, the true finale is The Bouncer / Epilogue where it reveals that the protagonist in fact did not leave during the course of Hold On Tight, and only did during epilogue based on the “time travel sounds” that played during it and prologue. All in all you’re wrong and this song slaps and it should have been included
But I think it *would* have been the last track if it was included anyway. The reason it wasn't chosen, as I understand it, was that another song conveyed the same idea and thus was chosen instead. And on the CD that includes this song, I think it is the very last track you hear, so you get that effect.
I have never heard this song before. I bought this album when it was first released back in the 80's. Played it to death. Why was this never on the album? Great tune.
Should you interpret this track as the narrator has come back from 2095 to find Julie has moved away or can it be implied that it fits in with the main storyline of the album where its 2095 and Julie has gone?
I saw a video. 50 works by Jeff Lynne not on his albums. He did soundtracks to movies. King Ralph that's not little Richard doing good golly Miss Molly. The movie electric dreams. Omgoodness Rich with his music. Let it run. And electric dreams. The list is long. He was as much a genius as the legends. Beethoven Rachmaninov Tchaikovsky. Truly that great. ❤. Roll it over Beethoven and give Tchaikovsky the news yeah. What a ride it's been. Since 1975 for me.

Thank you.
I love this song. Heard it for the first time 6 months ago. Here in Sweden The Time album did´nt include this beautiful piece.
I wandered through the town
A town I knew so well, but it seemed so strange
The wind blows cold...
_I remember when I thought your street was paved with gold._
I walked along the street--
A street I'd walked along many times before...
But things had changed
_Everything I knew was gone, or rearranged._
Whoa whoa...
Three of greatest Brit rock drummers came from Birmingham
and they are John Bonham, Graham Edge & BEV BEVAN!!!
Quite simply one of the best ELO songs ever! 'Time' is my favourite album and means more to me than words can express, and this song fits perfectly with the concept. Much as I love 'Hold On Tight', that should have been the B-side, and this the penultimate track. Marvellous!
Cheesy as the 80's can be but a cheese that aged so well, a true raffinement for the ears and soul
Time should have been a double album. This song, Drum Dreams, Bouncer and I’m sure one or two others. One of their best albums!!!
One of The Best ever I vás in tears
I love it so much.
Just realized that the day I’m listening to this is the 39th anniversary of the Time album, August 1, 2020. Think I’m gonna have a Time Marathon all day!
Fantastic
Never heard this before. Such great lyrics around a storyline combined with beautiful music.
Thank you for sharing this music with us!
I love it.
Juli is beautiful song!
musical genius! seen them in dublin last week. Brilliant!
Stephen Mcilvenna I was there too! Brilliant gig, one of the best of my life for me!
Me too! Going to the Belfast show this year
Love this song...for obvious reasons ...my name is Julie !🎉
Good story, man.
And to imagine I only discovered it 20 years after you first bought it. :) And almost 20 years on, I still listen to it constantly.
ELO_forever It was a B side back in the 80s on a 45rpm
And just when you think things can't get any better an old, unheard Queen track is rediscovered....heaven.
Got to be one of the best songs not to make it to the album..
And by that I don't Just mean in terms of ELO but music in general.
I have always love this song ❤️❤️
love this song & a great album to
I love this song.
fantastic.
Found this in my fathers 7" collection and cant believe it was just a b side????? not available on spotify or google or Amazon! so sad its not a hit for such a fantastic man! and his band
Great song! I didn't know this was on Time. My brother and I had that album memorized.
@@CalebyremaC I agree!
@@jesusalfredofernandezcruz1833 horrible theory
But I think it *would* have been the last track if it was included anyway.
The reason it wasn't chosen, as I understand it, was that another song conveyed the same idea and thus was chosen instead.
And on the CD that includes this song, I think it is the very last track you hear, so you get that effect.
My favorite ELO album and this is the first time I've heard of it.
marty3888 I actually saw them sing this live!
Can't believe he didnt play any songs from this album a couple days ago at awesome Sunrise concert.....why?
@@Bipbop66Sadly he has always been dismissive of this album. He felt it was a throw away because it was done to fulfill his record contract.
I have never heard this song before. I bought this album when it was first released back in the 80's. Played it to death. Why was this never on the album? Great tune.
It is on it now
This song is one of ELO's best. Timeless.
1st time I have heard it, brilliant ELO
I wish this song were much longer
Love it
This song is like a sad alternate ending to the album’s story…
Should you interpret this track as the narrator has come back from 2095 to find Julie has moved away or can it be implied that it fits in with the main storyline of the album where its 2095 and Julie has gone?
The best song of the whole lot and Jeff didn't put it on the album...still shaking my head after 30 years....
Another classic by the brilliant Jeff Lyne
Come on guys it wasn’t on the album so we all would buy the single …. it worked right! Executive decision.
It wasn't a single either. It was the b side to hold on tight.
Since 1975 for me.
so you had all this "time" and yet you haven't put it on spotify?
I wish they could’ve released all of the b sides on this album on vinyl, they’re all great
Congratulations Mr.Lynne Bev Richard Kelly ...all of Original ELO !
❤💗ELO forever💗❤
I got a comment. Who dropped the ball on promoting this as a single for the radio?
No paro d escuchar esta gran obra maestra d Lyne... lo siento por Julie
Superb love it
