Jeff Lynne was always influenced by the Beatles. A lot of people today fail to realize how popular ELO was in the mid-70s after The Beatles had split... I was two years into my career, in 18 months I would start flight training and be in the best physical shape of my life, most crucially my Mum and Dad were alive. Fast forward to me being nearly 40, I don’t fly anymore, I know five fat people and I’m four of them, I lost my Dad eleven years ago and my Mum two months ago, I was her carer for three years. Richard Shields Exactly, this is how music should be & always be, folk have forgotten natural, gifted, amazing, talented vocals like Jeff Lynne (not screaming to a non melody heap of a depressing mess 😂 😂 , they can't even get upbeat songs right now 😂 without having to scream it, as they can't bloody sing naturally as their singing coach at the lesson they've just came from & been to all their life has forgotten to teach them the understanding & importance of how to do melody & actually write a song naturally & build it up as E.L.O do, we lost melody when Brittany Spears came on scene, we lost great music like this around 1999-2002 when I actually truly believed, music was going to get even better with likes of Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, even Shania Twain 😂 Brittany Spears & Alicia Keys were responsible or brought in the destruction of amazing, born gifted, hard working, club bands & great quality, inspiring music, these bands like E.L.O in the 70's & 90's inspired me, gave me a hunger I never, ever, experienced, or will experience again, to need to learn the guitar, to play these songs & write music just like this. So I don't sound anything like the music you hear now, as I believe in the value of amazing versus & Melody & im glad I don't fit in with now, I'm kinda in a little, time capsule/bubble with my music, hoping melody once again will prevail & make a comeback & talented singers will be found who don't need singing lessons, who don't have to scream to build music up, who are just gifted from birth, not from the bloody Mickey Mouse Club that most singers of today came from. If they look really hard in clubs, bars etc, instead of stupid, pointless non talent shows, we might, might see a return of great bands but nowhere like Jeff Lynne's E.L.O. Sorry for the rant but good music like this has to come back some way or another ✌️✌️👍✊️

It ain't even close to 2095 and yet this album perfectly described the alienation and un-humanity (not in, un) awaiting our future in 1981. I'm glad I'm approaching my 7th decade, because the world is going insane.
I love the way Lynne characterizes the dispassionate malaise of persons inhabiting the world of 2095. To find myself in such a world, surrounding by mundane & invasive telepathic interactions, subsumed in a technological morass of augmented inner & outer 'reality'...I can conceive of one emotion primarily: crushing depression.
And it's only 2023 (Christ, I'm 57. I feel like I'm living in a science fiction film, saying 2023..but it still basically feels little different to the 80s... I dont think we are progressing at the rate people expected)

Альбом Дискавери лучше как по мне, хотя оба достойны
The way music is ment to be
Richard Shields Exactly, this is how music should be & always be, folk have forgotten natural, gifted, amazing, talented vocals like Jeff Lynne (not screaming to a non melody heap of a depressing mess 😂 😂 , they can't even get upbeat songs right now 😂 without having to scream it, as they can't bloody sing naturally as their singing coach at the lesson they've just came from & been to all their life has forgotten to teach them the understanding & importance of how to do melody & actually write a song naturally & build it up as E.L.O do, we lost melody when Brittany Spears came on scene, we lost great music like this around 1999-2002 when I actually truly believed, music was going to get even better with likes of Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, even Shania Twain 😂 Brittany Spears & Alicia Keys were responsible or brought in the destruction of amazing, born gifted, hard working, club bands & great quality, inspiring music, these bands like E.L.O in the 70's & 90's inspired me, gave me a hunger I never, ever, experienced, or will experience again, to need to learn the guitar, to play these songs & write music just like this. Sorry for the rant but good music like this has to come back some way or another ✌️✌️👍✊️
Could not have had a more perfect comment.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
1981 was when alot of english heavy industry collaped and towns had nothing left. That is what this is about.
Masterpiece from ELO Anything Jeff Lynne touched turned to gold, platinum or a diamond 💎
Would have been well fitted for Roy Orbison to sing
SynthieAl You’re damn stupid...
Odd comment but yes--i can hear it. Traveling Wilburys much?!
Das ist mein Lieblingssong von ELO!
Nikt nigdy nie zrobił tak wspaniałego połączenia rocka z muzyką klasyczną 🤩🤩🤩. ELO to zrobiło idealnie. Zawsze ich uwielbiałem 😍😍😍😍😍
To my relatives in England, you are so lucky to have such wonderful music! I’m so proud to have British heritage!
Definitely the best song of the best album of all time ..
11 tracks of solid musical gold,...no,...mastery on one album! Transports you to different places, Diamond of an album!
Well, I came a long way to be here today
And I left you so long on this avenue
And here I stand, in the strangest land
Not knowing what to say or do
As I gaze around at these strangers in town
I guess the only stranger is me
And I wonder (yes, I wonder), yes, I wonder (oh, I wonder)
Is this the way life's meant to be?
Although it's only a day since I was taken away
And left standing here looking in wonder (it's your life, it's your life)
Oh, the ground at my feet, maybe it's just the old street
But everything that I know lies under (it's your life, it's your life)
And when I see what they've done to this place that was home
Shame is all that I feel
Oh, and I wonder (oh, I wonder) yes I wonder (wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder)
Is this the way life's meant to be?
Too late, too late to cry , the people say
Too late for you, too late for me
You've come so far, now you know everything , my friend
(Look and see the wonders of our world)
And I wonder (oh, I wonder), yes, I wonder (yes, I wonder)
Is this the way life's meant to be?
As I wander around this wreck of a town
Where people never speak aloud
With its ivory towers and its plastic flowers
I wish I was back in 1981
Just to see your face, instead of this place
Now I know what you mean to me, ooh
And I wonder (oh, I wonder), yes, I wonder (yes, I wonder)
Is this the way life's meant to be?
And I wonder (oh, I wonder)
Yes, I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder
Is this the way life's meant to be?
Ooh, I wonder
Oh, I wonder, wonder, wonder
Is this the way life's meant to be?
Oh, is this the way life's meant to be?
Mm, is this the way life's meant to be?
I wanna know now, is this the way life's meant to be?
88 philistines gave this a thumbs down 😜
Imagine that ???? WTF?
Ok, i think i sing this with my Husband in the Car when we Driving to make Fun ☺☺☺ maybe for youtub ☺☺☺
We alway sing and laugh because i sing the front and he the backround...its so funny.
Una de les millors cançons de la historia. De tant en quant, la he d' escoltar. Gràcies, Jeff.
I admire people speaking their minds in the language they feel like doing it.
(Uno de Murcia).
I have to thank my older brothers for loving ELO so much, I can listen to their music 24/7 and it sounds even better today than it did over 40yrs+ ago, and it out classes some of the rubbish we have today. ELO I ❤ YOU.
If this is really how lifes meant to be then I want out
It's a close #2, behind "Twilight", as my preferred track, from the album.
We have 135 deaf ears this album is excellent ..so ahead of its TIME..!.. A gem from 1981 so good im still playing it for the 1,000 TIME.!
Thank You for this song.
And probably the best bass guitar break that you'll ever hear. It's a shame Kelly Grouchett's no longer around to join Jeff and Richard on tour once again.
His name was Kelly Groucutt
Jeff holds grudges. Would’ve never happened. Will never happen with Bev or Mik. Maybe Mike D?
Jeff Lynne is a total genius ... Then and now! .. The passage of Time just makea his genius all the more obvious! ... This song inspired my song "The Perfect Question"
Great talented solid band freaking Britons!!!
Us Brits are good at some stuff.....
yeah but definitely not football LOL
BRITTANS
I miss music like this!
What a wonderful song. I play it over and over again.
Fantastic melody!
God.jeff is genius.
Jeff Lynne's version of Phil Spector's wall of sound. Early '60s Latin feel, too.
I want to Thank my eldest brother THOMAS for introducing me to ELO way back in 1978, Changed my life. Every time I play their music my heart breaks throwing me back to days just chilling with him listening to song after song & excited about the next album & turning up the volume getting me through the hell that was going on in the house.
Now my 33yr son knows all their music and my 14yrs old daughter rocks out to them, now they are teaching my Grandchildren what epic music sounds like. So Bloody Blessed to be born in those days!
As an eldest brother and eldest cousin on both sides, I approve this message. SO glad you had a good one💖💙🤩🤩
ELO has been one of my favorite groups for over 45 years. Jeff Lynne has awesome musical talent and imagination. Putting Traveling Wilburys talent and music together was remarkable. Still love all his music after all these years.
Best band of the last 50 years!Bravo England!
I love ELO and this is my favorite ELO song no doubt
Great song of many moons ago.
Dalene du plessis back in the day lol enjoy your day
Мы пацанами были, в том далёком СССР, но эту музыку любили, как буд-то был он нам родным.
Да это так, тайм это вещь хорошая з❤
Jeffs done it again, singing from the heart, childhood memories, growing up, and the way things have changed universally, just amazing, love all his tracks luv you ❤️❤️❤️👍🎸
Fantsastyczni, ponad czasowi...😅😄👍chylę czoła przed mistrzami..dzisiejszy chłam profanacja dobrej muzy odpada w przedbiegach.
💥😍🤩
.
Brilliant :)
Do not mean to runin the song (i love elo like you wouldn't believe)) but in a round about way reminds me of fallout 4
You do have a point tho! LOL doesn't ruin anything XDDDD
This belongs in almost every post-apocalypse movie/show
omg you're right
We were spoilt in the 80’s, this album and breaking glass took me a long way
Anybody else think the vocal progression sounds a bit like The Beach Boys hero’s and villains?
A little bit.
Across the Border sounds EXACTLY like Heroes and Villains though
Gdyby zespół The Beatles nie istniał . To ELO dziś była by prekursorem muzyki rozrywkowej . Jeff jesteś mistrzem !
there's no translate function on RUclips!
Will love this song forever!
Dennis Rosenberg I’m 54 now. When I was just 18, I decided that this song has to be played at my funeral. My daughters can’t even listen to it now because they’d start crying...
Me too!
OOOOOOOOHHH LA AL ALAL ALA LALA
Best song of all time
Ahh... That beginning though ☄⚡️💛
👌👌👌 💦 2 troo lol
just when you think you can,the get any better Jeff s next always outdoes the rest some talent huh awesome
I wish I was back in 1981
Just to see your face instead of this place
О да! Я услышал эту песню, когда возвращался на дембель в 1982, и был потрясен этим чудом! Джефф Линн один из любимых моих музыкантов. Oh, yes! I heard this song when I was returning from the army in 1982, and was shocked by this miracle! Jeff Lynn is one of my favorite musicians.
My favorite ELO song, just a spectacular song.
creo que elo es la mejor propuesta para todos los que semos roqueros de los 70s y creo que somos los buenos...
It ain't even close to 2095 and yet this album perfectly described the alienation and un-humanity (not in, un) awaiting our future in 1981.
I'm glad I'm approaching my 7th decade, because the world is going insane.
Okay but when the drums come back in for the third verse, I got chills.
Oh elo..heart of my soul..the longings I have
The forgotten dteams
I want to know now if this is the way MY life's meant to be!
Lets Go Back To 1981.
Kocham tą piosenkę i nie tylko tą. Jesteście wspaniali .
The sound of my childhood !
