My reason for discovering the band is quite stupid I'll say. It was from hear the mr blue sky among us meme too many times, and deciding to listen to the whole song. Fell in love with the song. Didn't want to taint my love by listening to more of their music. Watched a video where a guy explains the writing of mr blue sky, and in the video he talks about the rest of the concerto for a rainy day. I decided one day to listen to it. Eventually I moved from listening to thr concerto to listening to the whole album. Then, I listened to a new world record. I bought a new world record on vinyl. Then out of the blue. I Got into some of there more popular songs. I got their first album on vinyl. Then listening to them sprouted into a rabbit whole of 1970s rock and disco. I got into the bee gees, klaatu, and even the beatles later albums from the late 1960s. Then, I started listening to the album this song is off of, and it changed my view of elo. I got it on vinyl too, along with sgt pepper and spirits having flown on unrelated notes. I got their greatest hits record, got a cassette of the classics, and started listening to their new stuff. I've even grown to appreciate balance of power. Anyway the point of all this is to show that some one can relatively naturally come to liking such an underrated band. Oh and the stupid amongbus memes weren't entirely the reason. I had heard mr blue sky on the radio a multitude of times, as well as don't bring me down.

ELO was my Dad's generation. I grew up in the 80's & 90's and found them on my own (and claimed them as my favorite band), now my kids listen to them and love them as well. Timelessness can never die.

According to the Rock and Roll Encyclopedia, this album was the start of the major decline in album sales for ELO. Their massive appeal hey-day was over. The foolish general public! I have no idea how people didn't buy this album. Time, in my opinion, is one of the all-time great albums -- there's very few theme albums that work half as well, and even fewer that have _every_ song on them be worth listening to on its own. LYRICS
The visions dancing in my mind
The early dawn, the shades of time
    Twilight crawling through my windowpane
Am I awake or do I dream?
The strangest pictures I have seen
Night is day and twilights gone away
With your head held high and your scarlet lies
You came down to me from the open skies
Its either real or its a dream
Theres nothing that is in between...
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, I gave you time to steal my mind
    Away from me.
Across the night I saw your face
    You disappeared without a trace
You brought me here, but can you take me back?
Inside the image of your light
That now is day and once was night
You lead me here and then you go away.
Its either real or its a dream
Theres nothing that is in between...
Twilight, I gave you time to steal my mind
    Away from me.
(you brought me here, but can you take me back again? )
With your head held high and your scarlet lies
You came down to me from the open skies
Its either real or its a dream
Theres nothing that is in between...
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, I gave you time to steal my mind
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile

Thanks to Hideaki Anno with is short film Daikon IV without him and the drama Densha Otoko i probably never heard this amazing band, Jeff Lynne and Elo band are so underated, Time is a masterpiece album like so many other they made, it's crazy they begin in the same era that band like the Beatles or the Doors, also lesser know like Spark from the Mael brothers.

I like in the final verse, 2:51 onwards, how they really rinse it out on the backing vocals saying: "twiliGHTTT". Giving it that little oomph pitching it up.

E.L.O. never changed their style very much and that was fine with most of their fans. This only went to #38 but who cares. (DJs must have been sleeping) Another great number by Jeff Lynne & Co.
