I can even go as far and say that "Maximum Risk is JCVD's best movie ever". this movie was nothing like the traditional stereotypical martial arts movies he makes, it was a realistic action gritty drama, and Van Damme arguably gave his best performance of his career. this movie is such a underrated masterpiece
I didn't know Ringo Lam passed away, that's so sad. But anyways I love JCVD movies directed by Ringo. Because they feel so unique among the rest of JCVD filmography.
Love that movie. It was two of the first movies I ever got on DVD. I remember my father and I going to Costco on my birthday in August of 1998, and he bought me a DVD player, and two movies. Dead Presidents and Maximum Risk. Great action thriller and Natasha Henstridge was smoking hot back then.
This was a film that shoud had much more difussion. I found out about this film some years laters after its release and I loved it. Great chemistry between Jean Claude and Natasha. And the fighting scenes look amazing but at the same time, very real. Ringo Lam was an excellent artist and he was for sure one of the first directors to put JCVD in more dramatic and realistic roles. He really started to improve his dramatic acting with Ringo Lam's films. As always, great video, Viking Samurai!!
I'll tell you van dammes most underrated film by a long shot. Wake Of Death. The storyline is good and van dammes acting is as good as any top Hollywood actors. Have you ever seen anyone cry as convincingly as JC in this?
@@VikingSamurai keep in mind what I said when you do. Hes head and shoulders above alot of top actors in that one. Every emotion he puts across is excellent
"Wake of Death" was the film that brought me back to Van Damme. I have a soft spot for these later films, like "Until Death", "Pound of Flesh" and "The Bouncer". I will say, though, that I have to skip over the power drill scene in "Wake of Death" !!😬

I totally agree with the tittle " Maximun Risk Deserves Respect!". This movie its very good, much more serious than it looks, and the cast is impressive ( Natascha Henstridge, Jean- Hugues Anglade...). I love the inicial scene with a very god car chase with lots stunts and after that the history to the twin brother separates on childhood is solid. Unfortunately at time JCVD made some bad choices on the others movies ( Double Team, Knock Off) both working with Tsui Hark and floops on box office around the world. I really liked the fight scenes in Maximum Risk. At the time when MMA was not popular in movies, this was as close as it got, incorporating strikes and grappling, especially in a practical way.
Natasha Henstridge was gorgeous and a great match for JCVD, honestly though did that guy turn a script down if it had a twin role!? Sheesh. InHell was the movie that made me watch Van Damme movies again.

When I first saw it (only a few years ago) I couldn't believe I'd never seen it before nor how good it was. I actually think it's in the running for JCVD's best film.
This movie is hard to like, even with Natasha Henstridge as an added incentive. Th issue is that when you watch Van Damme for over a decade - you want to see Van Damme being Van Damme. And here you are deprived of that completely. His twin brother's voice in the recorder that was in the bank safe cracked me up when you heard it in the trailers. LOL! In the film the voice is some sort of European accent and is rather smooth. I need to rewatch this one. I've watched a few others recently, the free offerings on Amazon Prime. Nowhere to Run and Knock Off, plus his direct to video duo of Second in Command and The Hard Corps... sigh. Anyway this definitely gives me inspiration to revisit more of JCVD's back catalogue. Any chance you will do a video on Legionnaire?
I like Legionnaire a lot, that was actually supposed to get a theatrical release, had a good budget. Van Damme's straight to video offerings in general have been disappointing.
@@VikingSamurai Yes I remember you mentioning Legionnaire in a video and it still had a $20 million budget? Seems like it was perhaps the first film Van Damme made after his 3 picture contract with Sony (Maximum Risk/Double Team/Knock Off) but he was already well on his way out of Hollywood's good graces. Bummer. I'm hoping Amazon will offer it at some point, they seem to mix up Van Damme offerings every few months. Earlier this year I was able to enjoy Double Impact, Death Warrant and Kickboxer at least 3x.
If you did away with all the heavyweight action stars and saw this movie 🍿 One of a kind movie 🎥 ever made but could of had more scare and darkness in the drama or just a little more family connection with the mob twist you know?
This movie was a little diamond in the rough. If I recall it was 96/97 it was released which was when JCs career unfortunately started to dip. Other than JCVD, The Bouncer and the 1st episode of JCVJ this was his last best movie. As much as I love JC the last 20 years for the best part have been terrible. Such a shame JC doesn’t give the audience what they want. He’s been told too many times, you can’t make action/martial arts movies like those anymore which is absolutely BS. I hate all modern martial arts movies, too many ropes, fast shaky cameras, too choreographed and unrealistic. Not enough emotion and slow mo!
Maximum Risk was not a good movie. The movie just didnt pack a hard punch. This movie was made at a time when Van Damme started to go downhill - Mid 90's. I believe 95/96. I also dont think Ringo Lam was a great director either. John Woo was a much better director than Lam. Maximum Risk could have been made A LOT better. The movie needed a better storyline and a better/different director.
I saw this movie for time I like the action, fights, and story. Maximum Risk is a great movie and deserves more respect.

@@amoeboidtendencies5137 Those are all incredible!
@@VikingSamurai Haha yes it's been the year of JCVD for me. I even watched most of his isometric Train with Van Damme video series!
one of the last great van damme movies. legionere was also good replicant not bad . and then from 2000 he started to make some wierd movies
I havent heard of maxium risk hopefully I can watch it on Tubi.
I have this movie on vhs. lol.
not all direct to DVD films of van damme and lundgren and with seagal and snipes aren't that bad come on
Thank you, there are still some awesome van damme movies even after the 90s.
If you did away with all the heavyweight action stars and saw this movie 🍿 One of a kind movie 🎥 ever made but could of had more scare and darkness in the drama or just a little more family connection with the mob twist you know?
The tree movies realy good one more van damme is the best
Love your videos!!! Are you on instagram?
Yes. As realvikingsamurai.
Hello sir which country are you from?
United States.
Maximum Risk is my less favorite collaboration between JCVD and Ringo Lam
Good, now do knock off with van damme
Coming soon, but first Double Team.
Seagal beat van damme at the very start that's why he is injured and brusied and being chased
His last really decent action movie, pretty much everything since has been garbage.
dereailed was so baddd
