one minute of silence for the poor pianist...who only is allowed to play the left hand of this masterpice ;)
Jo true
No way. It must feel great to be that close to the performance, and to be part of it.
But the accompanist is a big part of the performance
Well... name me a pianoist who plays with 2 left hands.
I'll give you about five minutes

Fuck man that was so impressive
yeah it was
😅
Actually, I do not really understand how can a man on earth, even through the whole universe dislike this impressive performance?!!
Perhaps they disagree on his way of playing. You know, musician stuff
Ahad Rajabi the only rational explanation is that their finger slipped
Maybe they coldn't play it.
Probably jealous
Its a little fast but I wouldn't dislike it bc of that
I want this to be played at my funeral
That's too bad. Lol jk
I thought the same thing kkkkk
Same
Me too
I hope I don't have a funeral
Love how he changes the octaves from the original score to suit the style played by the violin.
SakuraSelisa I believe the change is in the transcription by Sarasate.
@@4Topwood true good catch there ruclips.net/video/4Be0KTuzgpQ/видео.html
There's perhaps confusion about what you mean by 'original score'. There are no right-hand octaves in Chopin's original composition. In his arrangement Sarasate imposed them upon the first half of Bar 11, changing to 6ths in the second half of the bar and continuing them into Bar 12. Colin Jacobsen eliminated the octaves but kept the 6ths, a wise choice I would say.
this song stole my heart
I Weep nocturne*
Piece*
not song
Only musicians understand, lol
@Suga Kookies too to be fair he is really making that violin sing
Then u became heartless.
When you think that nocturne cannot be more beautiful i discovered i was wrong
He looks like he's in total bliss. In complete tranquility when he's playing. I really hope one day I could be like that
Someday, I'll learn this piece, and then I'll go back to my old house. I'll go where my grandfather (a great musician, who showed me music before words) rest in peace, and I'll play it for him. Just for him. 💜
Someday, for now, good night, for everyone. 💜✨
There you go, another reason why I love Chopin.

I don't even have words for this... His playing is perfect.

Omg he's not even looking sometimes when he does those trills and advanced parts. Holy crap this is amazing
yeah!! 4:01 tho I was like WTF HOWWW
Well he could possibly have it out of the frame
nothing out of frame! It takes a long time to learn violin technics and only after that you can play a piece, which also takes a long time. The reason he plays with closed eyes it's becase he repeats a lot that same part on training
Once you’ve been practicing a piece for a while you know exactly where each note is. I typically only look at my finger placement when I’m playing in super high positions-3 octave scales for example.
Most musicians depend on muscle memory actually

Jajajajaja!
Good one! :)
That's nice.
A reply after half a decade.
the very definition at that
this makes me wish I had started playing when I was 4 years old. but instead I was putting dirt in my nose and eating ants.... now at 26 I decided to learn and I have been getting pretty good but oh how much better would I be if had started sooner.
Same here
Relatable. I feel you man. Many of us do.
never it`s late!!!
I say that too and I started when I was twelve. I could’ve been playing saint-saens’ introduction and rondo capriccioso at that age if only I started at four, but I didn’t so it doesn’t matter because I can’t change the past. I’m now 15 and on track to play it at age 18, which is still pretty young. Remember, it’s not about the age you accomplished, but the journey and the fact you accomplished it. You’ll get there no matter what; no matter what age, or how many years it took you, or anything else. And you’ll be so proud when you do! All that matters is the fact that you accomplished your goals and didn’t give up! :) it doesn’t matter when you started, just that you started at all.
People who started playing at 4 sacrificed an important part of their life: their childhood. Just lile you may feel right now that you have missed out, I'm sure they feel something similar, having missed out on playing with their friends and stuff :(
I just can't stop to click the replay button.
did you stop?😂
@@tarunlahrod probably did
Legend is he is still watching and replaying 5 years later
I don't know if the uploader or the musicians will ever see this comment, but I just want to say thank you for this. I've always imagined this song to be a song of someone looking back at a long happy life in their final moments. Tonight, I played it for my 20 year old cat who I've had since 2 years old, during our last snuggle, and it means a lot to me to have had that moment with him to this video and song. Thank you, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. Scruffy lived a wonderful life, we gave him everything he wanted and more, and we all love him so much. I'll always have my memories of him, and this song will always remind me of our last snuggles together and the happy life he lived, and the way he made my life happy. Thank you.
Man.... 😭😭😭😭😭
You made me cry man
I love Chopin, I adore his piano music but this is the only violin version where I get goosebumps, especially at 1:12! Thank you for uploading, I come here every time I had a rough day ❤️
When I first heard this 14 years ago I decided I wanted to try to play the violin and to be 1/100th as good as this. Finally I started lessons one month ago and I'm absolutely in love so thanks Colin Jacobsen and your genius!!
Keep that love in your heart, and you won't go wrong with the violin!
The fact that there was a moment of silence so that the piece could settle in, and 'float in the air' as my teacher would say, between the end of the piece and the applause shows how good this is. If your entire audience is not fully captured and you have not transported them, they will immediately be aware that the piece ended and non-musicians (probably being most of the crowd) will clap immediately destroying the atmosphere. When everyone waits to clap you know that they gave the performers their full undivided attention. It takes skill to do that, because not the whole crowd is a fan of Chopin for example (if he was at a concert then obviously yes, but if he was at a competition etc where lots of people come and they aren't all classical musicians, then no they probably all don't even know Chopin's name). It's a great feeling to be fully connected with your audience.
What really makes the piece is the tempo rubato! It adds so much emotion to the song.
Your lie in April much?
His sound is so sweet and the man's vibrato looks so relaxed. Can't get enough of this!
Makes me want to pick up and dust off my little baby again. What a beautiful piece and so extraordinarily performed! IN LOVE
... so did you?
... so did you?
... so did you?
... so did you?
Maybe not her, but I'll do it. After 15 years without playing, I'm going to go for this masterpiece, wish me luck! :)
I never expected violin version of Nocturne s can excite me more than the fantastic original piano version.
The vibratos and also the continuous sound are fabulous!
....best version I’ve ever heard of this Chopin masterpiece...really touching...that I had to play it again & again...& my feelings just kept on shouting “wow”, you nailed it, Colin Jacobsen!..big kudos to you!!!
I'm literally in tears.
I can’t believe this was 12 years ago. Who knows where time goes. I would love to hear this price from you again. Loved it, love it - and will always will.
Well actually it was 2003; check description
I'm crying man, this is beautiful
Described in just one word: AMAZING
So I fell in with the piano version years ago and thought it sound great on violin. Which brought me here, and this is more than I ever hoped. I only appreciate more and more through the years. It is truly trancesendant, Thank you
One Of My Favorites
I feel like I’m coming back to this everyday
I keep coming back to listen to this performance by Colin Jacobsen.
As a violinist I understand the technical difficulty of this piece, and admire the many facets of Colin's polished performance. Intonation is spot on, his articulation is distinct, the weight and speed of the bow is used skillfully to produce beautiful and varied tonal colours. The higher position of his fingers on the lower strings and subtle use of glissando contribute to a beautiful resonant tonal quality that expresses the emotion of the music. His disciplined playing contributes to a beautiful rounded performance.
Though this was recorded a few years ago it has stood the test of time and will continue to be arguably the best recorded performance of this piece. Congratulations Colin!
As a violinist I would have appreciated the camera focusing on the violinist fingers and bowing rather than the face of the performer. That would have been most helpful to those of us who play, or are learning to play, this piece.
He reminded me of my Dad.who played classical music too with the violin, God bless his soul.
Even after 20 years, this is still one of the best versions of interpretation of this Chopin piece on the violin.
Discovered this video two years ago and I always return here to remind myself how exquisite this performance is. Made me love this piece a hundred times than before.
I'm like in a peaceful place
I don't even have words... its absolutely beautiful...
Dios, esto es completamente hermoso. Gracias señor por haber interpretado esta pieza en el violín. Una obra de arte. Mis oídos sienten placer cada vez que escucha esto...
this piece is by far my favorite classical piece, and hearing that opening on the violin immediately brought tears to my eyes, like it did the first time i had the pleasure of hearing it on piano.
bless this man and his talent.
One of the most beautiful songs composed. Always fetches tears to my eyes. And the violinist is amazing in this rendition. 👌
The sound that sums up life. Ups and downs even the end of life.
18 October 2020. "Hi people 12 years ago. I hope i can go back to your year. I miss it. And that music is so emotional. I miss when i still learn violin and i stopped cause my violin is broken and i cant play it anymore. Thanks for the music, u make me relax in the middle of pandemic".
It feels like I want to marry this piece.
Excellent performance! Jacobsen is one of my favourite violinists. Touched my heart...🎻🎹❤❤❤
Is it just me or does he look like Chopin a bit?
+Melisa What, he looks nothing like the composer, Chopin has straight hear in his head, but this guy is all curly.

Justice to a fantastic piece of music. Chopin must be so proud of Colin's rendition of this masterpiece.
keep coming back here for years.. my favorite chopin’s piece and he beautifully nailed it, rare talent to be found. thank you for blessing my life with such a fantastic performance 💫
masterpiece! its so beautiful, i never get bored listening to this
Today is the 6 April 2023. This recording was made on the 6 April 2003. Happy 20 years anniversary of one of my favourite classical recordings on RUclips. Bravo, Colin, you have achieved perfection.
For some reason it just really goes well on a cool rainy day with you looking at the window and someone playing this with the violin and piano
Beautiful Human accomplishment. Man is so capable of such beauty. Sad that individuals are capable of such jealousy and hate of difference in others. Wonderful accomplishment of an individual in composition and virtuosity.. Mr Chopin and Mr. Jacobsen. Bravo!!!
such a dreamy, handsome man. 😊😘🎻
I agree. When I first saw him I was like WOW 😱
Til now (2019) I can't find someone who can play this better than Jacobsen.
I cried when I heard this. So beautiful :)
Dis-I-like said 19 people. Seriously though, this is a masterpiece, I bet 99.99% of them know nothing about the beauty of this magical piece.
Absolutely sublime from start to finish.
This has always been one of my favorite pieces..... and this superb violinist makes it even sweeter.

Wow. This stringed performance of the Nocturne piece brought me to tears. So heartfelt, so beautiful. Thank you for this..
Listening to the two of you play makes me indescribably happy...This music makes me incredibly happy to be alive! Such gorgeous violin and piano! Bravo!!

Alguém 2020.? pra escutar essa canção maravilhosa de solenidade e calma ♥️
It hits me so hard every single time I listen to this. 😭 Thanks for making me cry for a good reason. 😊
Ah, the sweetness of the violin in this is a truly beautiful version!❤️🎶✨
I can play this on the piano (been playing the piano for 4.5 years) and I am pretty proud of my self :) I have been playing the violin for a while now and I really hope to be able to play this one day! :) (im not bragging sorry i probably sound like a 10 year old)
+Monamie Schloss what would you recommend someone to learn if said person might only be self teaching themselves online? i dont mind the difficulty, im asian (im not braggin sorry i probably sound like a cocky racist)
+Hugh G. Rection I'd say it depends on your skill level/how long you've been playing
Allsmiles29 CP lol u foking wot? did you even read my question?
Hugh G. Rection I don't know if I read your comment wrong, but I interpreted it as you asking Monamie if they would recommend you learning the song. I was just saying that, even if you don't mind the difficulty, I think it may depend on your skill level on the violin (or whatever instrument you're learning). If you're spectacular at the instrument, of course! By all means learn it. But I don't know you're skill level or anything, so I dunno.
Harsh language =P
Hugh G. Rection 1. i didn't learn online i bought a chopin book and i guess figured it out my self by listening to the song on my phone 2. no offence but don't need to be so rude to Allsmiles29 CP
Every nocturne played on violin was the best
Amazing!
I'm just a 3 year-old kid when this video got published ..
This piece is so magical -- it makes me think of memories that are worth remembering ❣️
Beautiful!! Thank you Chopin and Jacobson and pianist. Very mesmerizing.

Oh WOw! WOW! WOW! Made the hair stand up on the back of my neck -- astoundingly beautiful, thank you!!
Everytime im bored i watch this video and it literally fullfilled my heart
Muito bom! Emocionante!
I love his playing, I just have a bit of an issue with the glissing but he is really great especially when he transitioned to playing on the G string ❤
Not a bad recording in terms of audio for 2003. This video is older than the platform itself.
How beautiful, my God!
It's virtuosism, talent, beauty, emotivity ... all this condensed in magistral hands and four strings.
Thanks for the interpretation.
