Common Mallow - Malva neglecta AKA cheeseweed
Common mallow is a plant that can often be found growing as a week in your garden. Mallow is a weed if you don't want it, and it also has edible and medicinal uses. All the above ground parts of common mallow are edible, and it can be eaten raw or cooked. Common mallow also has some medicinal uses. Common mallow is anti-inflammatory, and it has been used to relieve inflammation of the digestive system, urinary system, and the lungs.
Common mallow grows a deep taproot that can make it hard to remove, and it can spread out and become a nuisance in the garden. If you don't want mallow in your garden, it's a weed. If you don't want common mallow AKA cheeseweed, you can pick it and eat it!

This has taken over my backyard. I’m trying to replace it with clover. I still let it go in other places though. I have dehydrated the leaves to make a vegetarian thickener for soups and stews
Nice! I let it go in some places, too.
Please find some native clover and other natives for your area. Non-native clovers are invasive.
@@prosperousutensil8178 oh I have definitely covered my yard in clover mix! I’m still trying to clear most of the mallow out. This was just a random, spiky plant I found earlier this spring. I pulled it out and composted it. Haven’t seen any more.

In the Middle East there are Arabic dishes with this plant. Known for this vegetable pancakes. Pour boiling water over the leaves, soak for 10 minutes, rinse, squeeze excess water,Chop the leaves, add and Finely chopped onion, egg, some breadcrumbs, or slice of non-fresh bread. adding some spices. salt and pepper, powdered garlic and n,adding some spices,and fry in oil. Very nutritious and healthy

The common name is "Hubeyza" "Hubeze" is bread. they say that the seeds look like a loaf of bread.

Weeds are also good for repairing what's wrong with the soil. In the case of taprooted weeds it's usually an indication of compaction. If you don't want to eat it or pull it just cut the top off just below the soil level and leave it in the ground. The tap root will eventually die and break down leaving a nice path for air and water to sink in. It's trying to break up the compaction of the soil.

I didn’t go in my garden for 3 days and this was everywhere like in the grass coming out the bricks walls 😂 all between my lavender I spent all day ripping them up I will wait for them to grow now so I can use them 😊 I must of wasted 2 carry bags worth

Its also called cheeseweed mallow and in the us it is considered a non-native invasive. So, dont plant it on purpose, and try to remove it when you see it.

No, I don't think so, but there could be a lot of different names in different areas. It can grow sprawling along the ground though.
Marshmallows used to made with real marsh mallow root. Good for what ailed ya. Not now tho.
