So much of it has to do with our personal experience and memories of using this equipment, the style, the feel, and the sound signature. I look at my pioneer SX-1250 as a piece of art, the materials, the layout of the front panel, the size and weight of the controls- the overall attention to detail. Durning the vintage receiver era the act of listening was different, you sat before it and gave it your full attention. Now most of my listening is on the go - earbuds on a run, Bluetooth in the kitchen or stereo in the car. The only time I really give the music my full attention is when I sit before the Pioneer, gaze into its orange glow and the music carry me away!

I couldn't agree more. To think fifteen years ago an SX-1250 could be had for at most $750.
