I think from what I read about gouache, this way of using it is exactly what it was designed to do, and why illustrators and pre-digital cartoon artists favoured it so much. I also love your wee goth vampire character, and definitely feel she's that much more appealing because she's done with traditional media on paper. The extra effort was worth it!

The hoarding of footage felt like a personal attack hahaha I also had so much footage filmed but never was brave enough to actually upload (until this year) and I'm so happy with seeing this process! I'm so in love with holbein gouache and acryla gouache
I think I will get some of these too. One reason beeing is that they are acrylics and therefore work on miniature painting. Unlike actual Gouache. But I can still use them for regular painting.
my friend got me some gouache and I have no idea why I tried to do it painterly when I first used it lol one of the reasons I like gouache so much is getting these flat colors they're so good and yummyy I've gotta use them again to make something I prefer
The type of hair you drew reminded me of “Blade” the 90’s movie that one main character that is an expert of killing vampires. If you never seen Blade, that’s okay. I’ve seen it a little bit when I was seven.
I feel like it is worth pointing out that there is actually a functional difference between gouache and acrylic gouache. Gouache can be reactivated with water and acrylic gouache (like acrylics) cannot be.
How do you avoid streaky flat colors? I tried applying the gouache straight out the tube and it takes a lot a layers to make it solid and uniform. Any advice?
Hey Cosmic, I'm new to your channel so I apologise if you've already covered this, but I noticed you said you're not a fan of this medium because it takes so long. Can I ask what you recommend as a fast and effective traditional medium? I'm a completely digital artist, but I really want to give traditional a go and try selling originals. I'm just very lost in a sea of options and I'm worried about picking up something that just feels completely alien to me.
Im a full out watercolorist so gouache has always failed me. I have had the himi miya set for years and bought some holbein acrylic gouache earlier this year and i have barely been able to use them just because im so used to watery washes and layers and regular gouache will pick itself up if i try that.
I've you ever been afraid about painting a drawing that you arlready inked and mess with it ? I did struggle with a complexe one, in a traditionnal way (no numeric), I will ink it, which will be a lot of work, after that I want to paint it using gouache (I'm not in watercolors).....but I'm so so so affraid to completly mess up the drawing -_-''
there's always a small fear of messing up, and it's always a possibility x'D that's just an inescapable part of the process haha! You have to trust yourself to fix it even if you mess up :)

She is probably experimenting. I think it looks pretty good but definitely could use something to give the illusion of tiny strands or that the scalp skin is different from the face skin. I know its hard with any water medium/specific stylized art.
@@glumsulk i mean if the character who appears to be caucasian was actually wearing cornrows, then yes it would be a problem because then it would be aiding the appropriation and white-washing of black culture when it's already been so wiped out already. however, if it isn't cornrows, then that would be fine. the original commenter was simply making sure that wasn't the case :)
@@salemisscreaming so what youre saying is we should make an effort to segregate black culture from white culture? Is that what youre saying? I guess youre also saying that "hairstyles" shouldnt be shared across cultures? Even though its literally a manifestation of admiration? So what about black women who wear weaves to make it appear that they have straight blonde hair. Is there anything wrong with that? Also, its a fucking painting. And before you assume, no, im not white. The fetish that woke americans have for minorities is patronizing and incredibly offensive.
@@glumsulk …no. black culture is constantly stolen or destroyed. the problem is that black people are constantly being faced with hate for accepting their culture so when white people exhibit those same culture and get praised for it, it feels like a slap in the face. especially when black culture is so popularized anymore (baby hairs, big lips, etc.)
@@salemisscreaming holy shit you think baby hairs and big lips are "black culture"? Seriously? You seriously dont know how ridiculous you are sounding. And you keep speaking in such broad terms its insane. Also culture is not "stolen" it is SHARED. Thats how cultures evolve. Cultures interact and they share things. Of course in a country with americas history and demographics (black people being 12% of the country) its gonna be way more obvious when certain things become "popular". What im saying is having hard set rules like "white people cant wear "black" hairstyles (which is a nebulous as fuck term anyway) or style their baby hair" are completely idiotic. Analyze everything in context. Like an intelligent adult would do. Some people can definitely be seen as appropriating especially when profit is involved or mockery, OBVIOUSLY, but a fucking painting of a fictional character? Its lame as fuck, patronizing, and literally racist. Are you black by any chance? Bc if you arent then youre literally speaking for black people which is fucking hilarious. If you are, then youre treating the black community as a monolith. Most black people dont give a shit about stuff like this. There are way more real life problems that MOST people, regardless of race, have to deal with to ever consider the fictional representation of a hairstyle to be an issue lmfao. Youre literally demonstrating your privilege rn and i am here for it lmfao. Also heres a free bit of advice for the road: stop saying "latinx" if you do use that dumbass term. That's true. But the paint used here is not gouache it's acrylic that has a matt finish and therefor looks like gouache hence the name acryla gouache
very nice detail of the sketching process digitally. I love how your guache looks!
Thank you! :))
Your art never fails to amaze me. Keep up the great work!

LMaoo true x''D i feel like it's been so long since I watched subbed anime, i lost the skill...
I am watching this video and another video side by side, so I'm watching like 3 things at once LUL The power of sub watchers ;)
I haven't watched anime in a long time but I watch so many RUclips videos with subtitles on that I still have the skill.

Definitely agree with you on the outcome with gouache, more effort but definitely worth it
That's a beautiful drawing keep it up and thanks for sharing

really like the flat paint look of this 🙂 finally an acryla gouche look I like
I like your voice, it's really nice to listen too, and your art is beautiful too.
The benefit of using this over digital is that acrylic gouache can be used on any solid medium, including metal and glass.
In school we mixed black ink in with the black paint to get a really deep, crisp black
you mix black in with the black paint? >_> do you mean maybe.. blue with black? hahaha. Some sort of typo?
@@CosmicSpectrumArt yes a typo it was supposed to be black ink in with the black paint
Oh that looks amazing. Those hands in that thumbnail ✋ I cant-

The type of hair you drew reminded me of “Blade” the 90’s movie that one main character that is an expert of killing vampires. If you never seen Blade, that’s okay. I’ve seen it a little bit when I was seven.
Blade is black and his hair style was cornrows, it's a black hairstyle. And it's offensive to wear it or put it on a character that isn't black.
The hairstyle blade usually wears is A high top. It's also a black hairstyle to be only worn by black people.
It looks so pretty T^T I love it
It was a great drawing process. I enjoyed watching. :)
I recognised this piece from your first sketchbook tour (2018-2019) as a sticker on one of the sketchbooks lol

About the character's hair, is it braids on her scalp? And what race is the character?

What race is she?
K but I really like how this character seems to break your style norm.
haha thanks. I bounce between styles a lot more than my YT videos show haha.
Why is her hair like that?
She is probably experimenting. I think it looks pretty good but definitely could use something to give the illusion of tiny strands or that the scalp skin is different from the face skin. I know its hard with any water medium/specific stylized art.
it's a stylized visual shape decision.
So it's shaped into cornrows?🤔 I mean you could have used any other shape than the one you used.
First?
Um... does she have cornrows???
It is stylized hair. You can see the strand coming off the side, its not a braid.
Im curious why you asked as if it was a problem or something.
