I was so allergic to face rotation, been watching you for a Long time, same problems, not the shaft lean i want Hooks pushes and shanks(yes with a captial S in shankS) was on a golftrip in spain last week, watched theese videos again after a lot of years since last time, went the next day to the driving range and tried what stan Leonard did, and i beat the shit out of the range balls on every shot with everyclub with no swingtoughts, went out after to play 72 for the first time in my life❤🎉 i just wanna say thank you for putting up theese complex detailed instruction videos. Keep doing what you do, there are a lot of people who can't take theese lessons and for me i see it as gold❤
3 years ago I use to do this method and I use to crush the ball. Had a few lessons from a pga pro and my game has been shocking since. Changed back when I viewed the first AJ Bonar vlog. Back to creaming my blades and woods etc. The love for the game is back! Great stuff
In 1991 I took a lesson from Brad Turner who was on the golf team at Bowling Green under Coach Bonar. After looking at my golf swing, Brad who was a teacher at The Golf Academy of the South said he never seen anyone open the club so mush on the back swing. So the next day he told me he had called AJ and AJ said that was ok and to just put the club over the top and bow the wrist like he told you. It works for me but you still have to practice until you get the feel of it. Thank you for the video.
Best golf instruction out there if you understand the idea of making the top of the clubface coming over the bottom at impact. That though alone is better than any other instruction I've ever heard on youtube.
I bought mr Bonars video(your welcome) several years ago because I was curious and I like to study things about the golf swing. My opinion after watching it was the central theme was like watching a skilled magician do sleight of hand. A card trick. Some people are extremely good at doing card tricks or rolling a coin between your fingers. Some are not. I am in the are not category. The timing required to hit a golf ball that way was too much to use on a consistent basis. About one out of every fifteen shots with driver actually worked. I simply do not have the hand eye coordination required. Like card tricks. However, that part of the video dealing with short game contained lots of good stuff and I learned a lot. Made the purchase worthwhile.
This has to be one of the most important golf instruction vlogs ever shown The mechanics of the "top over bottom"" at impact are GOLD! AJ's info is pure golf heaven Thanks Brandon for this vlog All the best for your site , from Steve in Australia
@@johnwetherill229 Hi John its like putting top spin on a tennis ball. the outside and the top of the club are actually going faster than the inside and bottom of the club..its very marginal but when you hit a ball like this and connect the ball flight is significantly lower but the ball penetrates further. like watching a plane take off. If you have ever seen Greg Norman hit a long iron or wood its like that. Its actually something to see when done and the ball just flies off the face with tremendous power
I really like what you're doing here. Your channel concept is really beneficial. I used to work as a pga pro and I found value in working with several different instructors/coaches. You learn something unique from each one. Sometimes golfers get locked into this or that when the target is always moving depending on the day. While his numbers are a little off and I know I've changed my large muscle movements over time, AJ is spot on in what he's saying about the hands. I'd love to take a lesson from this guy. Probably the easiest place to start and most productive. Thanks for what you're doing.
Rob Saxe gotta love the old guys. They didn’t have the science and slomo camera’s so they could be proven wrong about what was really happening but honestly they seem to still always be right about what you need to feel to get better. To me that’s the most important thing to be right about. Who cares if they were wrong about the face needing to be closed to the target to hit a draw.
Me: naysayer turned convert. I'm a big fan of Malaska & Monte, but this is the simplest most effective way to "mush" the ball, and dead straight. AJ's personality and his take on physics definitely put me off but I was intrigued by the "top spin ping pong" move. Most critical (for me) to make this work 1.ball position way forward 2.right hand grip to match the face 3.the right hand wrist action thru impact. For those asking for clarification on the right hand wrist action, my interpretation: imagine bouncing a basketball, now turn it 90 degrees. Hands MUST get well past the ball before impact. Effective with every club in the bag, wedge to driver.
Clay Ballard describes this same move just a bit differently. Clay says one of the motions of the right arm release, is to rotate your wrist like turning a doorknob counterclockwise. I didn't quite understand that until now. AJ describes the same move but in a way that made more sense to me.
I'm not a big fan of AJ Bonar's theoram and methodology on hitting a golf ball but I'll always support Brendon with a like for his efforts. No other channel provides as much varied and interesting content as Be Better Golf. I've been following the channel a long time and have always loved Brendons original idea of bringing different voices in golf to the fore. I think he lost that direction a little last year with his work with Tony, as despite being very good and interesting the channel became a little one dimensional. However now he seems to be getting back to the multiple instructors and different voices idea again and I personally welcome it. If you're ever in England Brendon I'd be happy to get together for a round simply as a thank you for all the interesting content you have brought me over the past two years.
Hi Brendon In order to swing my club top over bottom I use my little trail finger for my brain to feel the weight of my club head traveling in space throughout my entire angular momentum golf swing. That is how simple and accurate my swing now is. Cheers ⛳️😃👍🥂
in the 80's i watched Lee Trevino give a clinic and he said if you want to draw it then open the clubface and your instincts will close it (cover) coming thru..used AJ's idea of driving the nail w/ this little cup in the left wrist and wow....thanks AJ and Brendon
Holy Crap! I tentatively took this to the range today not really confident on how it was going to help my typical ball striking. Did the Cup at address (open face) and roll over (cover) the ball at impact. OMG!! Where has this been all my golfing life! Driver went from (normally) 250+ yds to easily 290+ yds within a very short time of dialing it in. I was actually laughing looking like an idiot, I'm sure. Wish I'd had this 'eye-opening' info when I was younger! Thank you Mr. Bonar!
great video! but the angle wasnt good when he showed you stuff in detail. could you show us what he did when he „shook your“ / guided your hand? also, about the opening of the face at address and what it enables you to do? and also the part with the back swing and the wrist. perhaps in a close up video?
I bought AJ's DVD's almost 20 years ago and after 3 weeks of mixed results I returned them - I am embarrassed to say now. Last night and today I came across this channel and the videos with AJ. It was like revisiting an old friend. Back in the day, I was all about the "swing". I thought of myself as another Sam Snead but without the consistent results. AJ's instruction was too simple for me at the time and quite frankly, too radical as well. Hit the ball like a hammer? Come on. And the ironic thing was that I was in construction at the time, pounding nails with a hammer all day! Today, I love the idea of the hands are dominant and the big muscles follow. Being a skills player in a lot of sports, I never could accept the "dead hands" philosophy widely taught in golf. Granted, with some chips and other short game shots maybe, but not the regular full swing. I have always believed that there should be a point of focus directly behind the ball and if focused on with laser precision, to go through that point with all you have or what is appropriate for that shot. The combination of driving that nail and hitting the top of the club first as the hands lead past the ball is the perfect tri-fecta. The very first ball I hit today compressed like I use to 20 years ago - an 8I that flew easily 168, maybe 172, straight and took a while to come down. This is with a covered club, just like AJ has said. When I got to the driver, my grip is neutral again (yea!) and I feel I can just swing without restriction. I was pounding out high 300 + yds down the middle or with a soft draw, depending on the setup. And then I could hit a serious power fade without fear of losing it right. Amazing. Two days ago, I was literally slicing every driver I hit and not knowing why. Today, the ball flight is in control and I'm not too hung up about positions or release. It really is set up, take away, turn, fire, then pound that nail. The first part is basically unconscious and the very end is just basically pound that nail straight. Thank you AJ and Be Better Golf!
A couple of things: I’m a Ballard guy, so big muscles powering swing. But I’m not above trying something new, and watching A.J. swing, there actually are a lot of common elements to the Ballard swing (right side/right hand dominance, first move is a back push off towards the ball, etc). Probably due to these guys being very close in age, and learned similar fundamentals at close to the same ages (you know, like today’s guys all swing basically the same). My sense is that teaching pros focus on communicating in a way that they can get known for....A.J. talks fine motor skills, while Ballard talks “connection” to emphasize hips, shoulder girdle, and legs in sequential harmony. The differences practically applied aren’t nearly as great as is HOW they communicate ideas make the differences seem. Heck, in Ballard’s book, he speaks of the topspin forehand in tennis to demonstrate the descending blow. Ballard teaches a cupped left wrist w/ a strong, straight, “non-waiter’s tray” right wrist, just like Bonar explains the Stan Leonard move. Point is, watch what they DO, not so much on what they SAY, and you’ll find more commonality than you’d expect given the respective talking points. Anyway, yesterday & today, took the Stan Leonard cupped wrist at address (I’m a hook prone player) to open it up to the top, and an aggressive Bonar “magic move” top over bottom in the hitting area, to the range. Changed NOTHING about my basic swing, just the cup wrist and A.J. move....by the way, Hogan cupped at the top, too. The results have been remarkable....shots penetrate better AND are higher, more power, better contact, cleaner divots. PW-6 iron are a club and a half longer, hybrids and FW Wood a club longer each. I do “miss” more w/ the longer clubs, but it’s a timing, hand/eye move, so I expected that. It seems the longer clubs need less of the opening/cup at address. Driver? You NEVER miss left w/ the Leonard cup & AJ magic move. I can’t wait to take it to the course and aim right at the 150 markers without worrying about the left woods and rough!
I agree that hand/eye co-ordination is important something Ive never heard other teaching Pros mention! But skilfully using the big muscles puts you into the position to use this skill consistently and when under pressure. As well as taking care of the immense swinging weight of the club.
I've got AJ's tapes; this session put it all together. I want to learn this method-- I'm a guy that never had natural speed and now getting older I need technique. Maybe there's hope. Thanks!
SearchBucket2 wrong. I watched rotary swing guy give a lesson and it was lacking to say the least. AJ would run circles around rotary guy’s ego by actually making the student better.
hi Brandon. Thanks for video. Wrist set up is logicaly sound. My next range day, I'm going to have fun doing this move. It didn't work way back when for me because I never knew that the center of the clubface needs to hit the center of the ball to work the ball in any shape. Otherwise, I could have got good results. This video reminded me of this, which I actually discovered a year ago, but didn't think about it on the range! Thanks for this video. A J sure is a likable and great instructor. Bought Truth about Golf when it came out in 2003.
Excellent golf tips from AJ...Hitting low on purpose puts backspin on ball elevating the ball into the air for long distance. Brendon show us the wrist move AJ showed you. At 14:20 AJ tells us the beginning of SWING THROUGH THE BALL for him.
This knowledge is INCREDIBLE!!!! I am so excited to run to the range to work on this. Who ever thought to take the top of the club and at impact make it ahead of the bottom of the club or ever to cup your left wrist at address and possibly eliminate the left side. Awesome...awesome stuff indeed...
The swing you had at 13:45 was your best finish. No holding off, just a full finish. I am working on this same thing. I’m going back to my old swing coach who had me doing this same type of manipulation. I’ve never hit the bell more pure in my life. Distance and height is unreal. He had me feel like I was going into impact with the toe of the club pointing at the ball. But I’ve lost the feeling and need him to fix it. Keep working at it!!
Fifteen years ago I watched AJ Reveals The Truth About Golf. Soon after, I hit a hole in one. That hole in one won me a 7 series BMW which I sold right away which then allowed me (a poor young man living in Manhattan) to buy a Tiffany engagement ring for my girlfriend. God had a plan for me to marry that girl, and it all started with AJ Bonar. Lol.
Question for AJ next time: when executing the top spin covering of the ball just before and just after impact, which hand is dominant with the motion? How are the hands used in unison? or not? In 2005 I purchased and used this video to help me attain a full year of consistently shooting low scores (72-82ish)without really 'getting it' with the 'litte bat' move. But, when the concept kicked in, I was on the seventh hole of a competitive round with some friends. After the 6th hole I was 6 over. From there forward I parred in, for my first 70's round. My arch rival friend still says that I 'sold my soul to the devil' that day. However, revisiting the recent posts and digging out the original VHS tape, I now understand the 'little bat' motion. It's powerful (both mentally and physically). No more swing thoughts! Used it in tournament play this past week and won my flight, highlighted by long controlled drives. But, please ask him about the use of the hands as a unit vs right hand only (for right handed player) to get the top spin action.
hey roy, I had really good results with this tonight at the range, see my comments. For me, both hands are light on the club so neither feels dominant, but my focus is definitely on the right hand and the wrist action. As long as my hands get thru ahead of impact with a descending blow on the ball, its good. I also have to make sure my back swing feels steep, if it gets flat my hands won't clear far enough forward for this move to work.
Interesting video. I would like to see your hand/wrist positions with your driver and what he was showing you when you were behind him and the clubhead was up in the air
Damn, I watched like 6 videos trying to figure out what the heck he was talking or what was different than I normally do which is to deloft at impact, about and then BAM, he finally made sense!!! I always have a terrible breakdown somewhere in my round with the freaking hook, not my normal 4 or 5 yard draw. Going to go out next week and try this out. I used to open the face with a strong grip and would still get the hook. I think this may just be the anti left secret. Good one bud! Ain't that somethin! 😜
The great thing about this lesson is someday everyone is going to get older and not be able to turn their hips through the golf swing.. The great thing about the players of the 70s they could use hands controlling the ball with blades which is a lost art in today world of golf..
That move is probably going to help a lot of people, I have struggled with a hook with my drive, and sometimes with long irons and woods, I just can't seem to get the cupped wrist right the way Hogan explained it, I've tried and tried. It seems to be helpful to you. My hooks started when I was on the long journey to shallow my swing, haven't hit it good since, that was three years ago, my irons have improved alot since I figured out how to hit down and through, I used to hit it like that until I started trying to shallow everything. I think that whole craze in golf teaching is more harmful than good to amatuer golfers.
I had same problem for a couple years. Early wrist set drills and "body release" drills helped me. Clubface must be at 45 degrees at top of backswing or weaken your grip. On downswing do not allow right hand to roll over to close the face - make your upper body pivot/shoulders turn the toe over. Watch Dan Whittaker on youtube or JB Holmes downswing. JB doesn't allow right hand to roll over until 2-3 feet past impact. Good luck!
For all of the haters out there who are the typical internet addict that falls for all of the cynical thoughts and immediate negative judgments on people, i must say this. This man explained that he never had a lot of power, golf to him was a mystery because he struggled with it, but he became a scratch golfer and he did it though his own logic. It took time for him to digress and formulate all the things he didn't know but he did it. He is my kind of teacher, a guy who tells you that if you have hands and a club you can play golf. He simplifies it very easily and makes you think simply as well. No swing thoughts, no mechanics, just some simple basic geometry and a drill and thats it. Hit the ball hard asshole and hit it straight. This works for me.
Hi Brendon! as you know, I watched many of the different instructions you got from many instructors, including AJ. But only now I came back to this video and it seems to make the most sense to me. I have a golf net at home and, even I'm not playing, I'm hitting the ball with a lot more consistency it´s almost frightening. I also remember another video you did where you describe that you want to hit the floor with a parallel shaft. Can you point me to that video please ? That seems to be doing the trick for me. Day after day at my golf net.
I got to give it to you man, you have some good videos, the journey that you go on to search for a better golf game is interesting and helpful to many amateur golfers, I sincerely hope you find what you are looking for. I feel as if you are so deep into your search that when some of your guest joke around with you, your mind is so deep into thought that you sometimes forget to laugh, and that makes you tense, and tension can hurt your game. Loosen up and have fun, after all it's just a game, a game that I love playing. Good luck on your journey!
hi brandon ... if you had a friend, single capper who asked you to recommend one teacher out of the pros you had lessons with ... would you go with aj ... or somebody else ... ? cheers
I’ve solved golf with this single thought nail into ground + top before bottom feel. Thanks. My thought is a powerful topspin tennis shot (probably into the net because you still need to hit the nail down)
White with a golf ball so far away from where you were hitting if you have the golf balls right next to you you could save time and have more information on the video it seemed ridiculous having to walk 12 feet away to get balls when they could be right by you that’s just an observation
I took a lesson with AJ a few years ago when I was first starting and found myself wildly inconsistent with his methods; however, I think that someone that has a sound understanding of the golf swing from a 'technical' standpoint (i.e. on plane, in to out etc.) would greatly benefit from these 'swing thoughts'. I can swing great but flip at impact, everything is on line and timed up. This plus Bobby Clampett's 'The Impact Zone' may be helpful for golfers that are stuck in a rut but have a concept of the 'swing' through and through. Thank you.
Those 6 or 7 shots near the end are some of the best looking, most balanced, swings you’ve had on camera. This move got rid of most, if not all, of that Zorro thing you do at the top, which causes you to then dip badly as you compensate for it. Just look at your head height on those...it only moves up and down a little bit compared to the ones you’re not striking as well. I’m surprised you said you went away from this. Why?
Brandon, I play 9 holes 3-4 times a week. Don't know my handicap but I shoot consistently between 38-42. I just went out and tried this move and it was remarkable. If I told the truth of my iron distance increase no one would believe me. Thanks and please ignore the clowns who doubt everything on here and do some follow ups on this move.
Thank you once again for sharing all this insight about the enigma golf is. I really hope you try at least one round with this (and film it;)??? to show us. Greetings again from Norway;)
Brenden…..I watch a lot of your videos and the amazing thing about you is you ask great questions when you have “experts” on your RUclips podcasts. You are a very curious guy wanting to get better at golf. It reminds me of my favorite advise to my teen age kids……what is the cure for boredom ? Curiosity….What is the cure for curiosity ?…….There is no cure !
Well, this video is a mind blower. Based on this, the driver should be hitting slightly down at impact (not on an upswing as is the conventional wisdom). Question: does the twist the club face open technique (as shown at the end of the video) go against the hit the ball with the top over the bottom / drive the nail into the ground path?
I have learned from these incredible videos that clubs should be 6 degrees flat and that clubs need to be played very open at address. AJ also pointed out that the sweet spot is now closer to the toe than the hosel. Club manufacturers need to be put on trial for gross negligence as we have all suffered.
Super lesson. When I started playing golf I always played with an open face. I would have have a beautiful draw with the irons but a terrible snap hook with the driver. Everyone told me to set up square to target . Now I know what to do. 👍
By cupping wrist and slightly opening face at address and holding cupped wrist throughout swing worked great for me! I am able to take away left side of course when done properly. Praise the Lord.
It's funny when people say 'feels vs reals' because I found an application (atleast I think). From day one I would swing by covering the ball, keeping wrist bent, hitting down into the ball, etc. But I think I went too extreme. So now I 'feel' like I'm doing what I'm not supposed to be doing and thats letting my wrists cast at the ball alittle bit at the end of my swing, and it's helped me make so much better consistent contact it's unreal. I was that guy that has to use matts at the range because I would dig a crater into the grass after 200 balls.
What’s amazing about that iron impact was that your head stayed back, even though you were trying to hit the ball low from a driver ball position. That impact was textbook.
Tried this swing today at our club’s indoor simulator. Once I found my natural swing point I was hitting the ball like a laser. The ball flight grouping could fit in a hula hoop, Not one shot went left to right aka slice. Miss hits were short but on line. It’s the only swing where I can go after the ball as hard as I can and not chunk or pull hook it. Distance improved maybe 5 yds with irons but the accuracy was dialed in. Had trouble finding sweet spot with driver but the misses went as far and straighter then my old swing. Three wood and 5 wood were 10-15 yds farther. Actually hitting 3 wood farther than my driver.
A J you r a legend. I’m 6 handicap my natural shot is draw but when my game goes wrong it turn into duck hook shots. I had so many lessons but since i watch this video man I can’t explain my feelings. Thanks very much for explaining in such details.
Ben Hogan seemed to have instructed us to keep the right elbow in the lead well into the downswing to eliminate that thing where the clubhead starts passing the hands too soon. So you might try that to eliminate that problem in your swing if you have that problem. I don't recall Hogan ever teaching a "cupped" wrist. But only skimmed through Hogan teaching material.
Like the simple idea to teach your self how to hook/slice the ball by controlling the face that bit is good for any type swing...and the comment about the 90 yard toss of the football by Daly, he did not mention that ball would have sliced or hooked into the stands.
I have toyed with this over the years but what held me back was not having enough guts to have the face really open at address. Years ago, I played with a guy that was a good player and his stock shot was a little draw. You could see before he hit it that he made sure the face was open. He was not the kind of guy that you would ask questions of so I never knew exactly what he was up to. He's long gone now.
Great series and great job in bringing these golf guru's to your channel .I have had some good results after watching and listening to aj, monte ,malaska . Has any of them had a lasting impact on your game ?
Pros do this all the time. open the face and do the reverse motorcycle move with left hand. All sports have timing.. it's ridiculous to think that golf is different. Great video.
A.J. in talking about Stan Leonard's secret is actually more or less describing "The Hogan Twist". Hogan wanted to open the club as fast and as far as he could in the backswing. Obviously it worked for him. It also works for me. There are some videos on youtube that explain all about it.
Do you ever think that you've gone to too many swing coaches? A lot of them have similarities in their approach, but a few are pretty different. Like this guy vs, Tony vs Malaska... I've been following you for a while and I know you were a 3hc a few years ago... Do you feel like you've improved? Are you a lower HC now?
This is absolute GOLD, thanks gentlemen! Brendon it would be great if you could do a close up of close up video of the wrist cupping in the setup and what the face looks like that AJ was talking about, it was hard to see from the distance this video was taken. Keep up the good work B! AJ, God bless, you don't look 74, I thought you where in your mid to late 60's.
The ball placed a couple of inches outside is to assist you in swinging inside to out and not casting or pulling left. I use it all the time in warm-up.
Great content. I remember AJ’s “infomercial” plastered all over golf channel when I first started playing. His stuff will always have mixed reviews (all teachers do). Two people can explain the same principles, but if it doesn’t resonate with you, then you don’t think it was useful. On a totally different subject, what microphone does AJ have on? I saw the ones linked in your description, but I didn’t think it was the same.
Interesting how we teach ourselves using motion terminologies as well as geometric's. Mine are different than A.J.'s even though I appreciate his. I would love in my mind's eye like to be questioning him back and forth like this.
Why did you stop using AJ’s cupped right wrist at address technique? I tried it and it works great for me. I have always had quite a bit of shaft lean at address which puts the left wrist in a straighter position. I find that if I have shaft vertical at address that it cups the left wrist automatically and if I use a one piece takeaway that cup is maintained in the early part of the backswing. From there the left wrist want to bow automatically at impact. Your thoughts?
This to me is gold dust. If just fpr the fact that in the future, your channel hosted AJ. This series will be watched for many years to come if only for histories sake. Hope you reimbursed Mr Bonar for the balls you smashed into the swamp? So now youve had a bit of time to reflect on this; is this something you could use or incorporate into YOUR swing? That cup move reminds me of Martin Ayres DOCF, with a one motion swing.
IMO important points to take away from this is to hit the ball with forward shaft lean or your hands ahead of the ball AND never try to go under the ball at all. With the loft of the club head you will hit the ball at the equator or very slightly below it... but your feeling is like if this club had zero loft I would contact the ball above the equator. Imagine wacking an impact bag, you would always have forward shaft lean and you would never try to get under the bag, and you would never try to hit it just with your wrists, and if you drew a golf ball sized spot on it you could easily hit it. In baseball and most sports that you hit or throw something, the motion starts with your bat or arm already back and your feet, hips, chest and shoulders parallel to the target, then you open or clear your body as you hit or throw forward. So in golf the back swing is just to get the club back and up then you start by returning your body to neutral similar to address and the important turn is from neutral to open as you are swinging thru clearing your body, with a full swing having the club pull you past facing the target.
I just can’t grasp what they’re talking about and what they’re trying to do. For the top of the club head to get to the ball before the bottom wouldn’t you drive the ball into the ground or at least hit very low shots? Yet their goal is higher shots? And exactly what do you do to get into that position? Plus I couldn’t see when they demonstrated cupping the wrist. I’m totally confused and I wanted to understand because I desperately need higher shots. It seems much of this was maybe on another video and this was a continuation and I got to the ballgame a little too late.
Hey brandon, is this possibly why several tour players have an open stance... are they opening the face and lining club head to target which would cause an open stance? I.e. bubba watson
How does turning the toe over jive with hitting the impact bag? Seems like one hits the impact bag with a square club face? Doesn’t this contradict his strike the bag swing?
Dear brenden the problem with all these teachers you go to to learn and get better is none of them talk about the most important thing of the golf swing which is posture. You have to maintain your posture during your entire golf swing especially before and right after impact. Everything else should come natural everyone swings different some faster some with different curvatures. If you do that your back swing will get perfect with no over extension your your arm sequence you and monete always talk about will sync on it’s own from a lot of practice and time. Depending on your athleticism and hand eye coordination will determine how good you can become but make no mistake our body and hands are very responsive just let them be and if you have to maintain your posture from a 30 yard pitch to a 300 yard drive to make great contact and let you motion happen naturally the more you do it the better you will become it’s that simple
If you attack the inside quadrant of the ball at impact, the center of the clubface remains the proper point of contact. Probably not a lot of difference in flight from center of contact of the ball. Center being in relation to you and the target line.
In this time and in the future, I bet this will go down as the best lesson you’ve ever had.
I so enjoy listening to AJ!
How much do you want for those videos?
This has to be one of the most important golf instruction vlogs ever shown The mechanics of the "top over bottom"" at impact are GOLD! AJ's info is pure golf heaven Thanks Brandon for this vlog All the best for your site , from Steve in Australia
Thx Steve
What does that mean? Top over bottom?
@@johnwetherill229 Hi John its like putting top spin on a tennis ball. the outside and the top of the club are actually going faster than the inside and bottom of the club..its very marginal but when you hit a ball like this and connect the ball flight is significantly lower but the ball penetrates further. like watching a plane take off. If you have ever seen Greg Norman hit a long iron or wood its like that. Its actually something to see when done and the ball just flies off the face with tremendous power
Steve Hayes thanks. Seems intriguing. Not sure I understand but will try it.
@@johnwetherill229 well worth a try - pay particular notice when AJ is explaining top over the bottom
The door knob analogy is way closer to the idea than dribbling a ball at a 90 degrees angle does.. but maybe that's just me.
Rory McIlroy just said the same thing for draws and fades.
Steven Grace to draw it open club face to slice close club face
Bonar!
great video! but the angle wasnt good when he showed you stuff in detail. could you show us what he did when he „shook your“ / guided your hand? also, about the opening of the face at address and what it enables you to do? and also the part with the back swing and the wrist. perhaps in a close up video?
this comment is so true about most of the videos you see. What good are they when they don't show the key things?
Thanks!
Go watch some rotary swing golf then. This stuff will rot your brain
SearchBucket2 wrong. I watched rotary swing guy give a lesson and it was lacking to say the least. AJ would run circles around rotary guy’s ego by actually making the student better.
@@SearchBucket2 why come on here and waste your time and dog on other's work. If you don't like it, don't watch.
AJ's method works so well with my driver and woods...it's amazing the difference when you first hit a great shot using this method.
I'm floored with this. I've been watching and reading about stan the man Leonard WOW this AJ is the best instructor ever. is he ever on east coast?
I have watched AJ give many lessons. I even took a lesson from him! AJ Bonar is the BEST golf instructor on the planet.
I had lessons from AJ. He is spot on with his little home run. If you want to feel what compression is, try this technique.
Lol.
Wow, great story
You should sue him!
Damn!
Judge PigMeat Markham would give AJ ‘Life’ for his involvement threre.
You had me right up until the god part. Congrats tho
But, please ask him about the use of the hands as a unit vs right hand only (for right handed player) to get the top spin action.
roy shafer I asked, he said right hand for righty’s . Like ping pong. That’s why he draws it on the right palm. I’ll get him on the record though
hey roy, I had really good results with this tonight at the range, see my comments.
Have watched this 3 times and learn something new every time. I have added 20-30 yards to my drives.
Interesting video. I would like to see your hand/wrist positions with your driver and what he was showing you when you were behind him and the clubhead was up in the air
I tried this (hitting the ball as low as you can) today at the range. Even the driver. It works! Great video.
Great to hear!
I watched all AJs videos with you. Loved them. It has helped me make better solid contact. Thanks.
Hi Brendon can you do a close up of your set up and what the driver club face looks like at impact
Good luck!
This is so beautifully simplistic!!
Still one of my favorite videos. When the light went off for the student he felt invincible, that’s what a teacher is supposed to achieve.
love this
This is the best golf wisdom I have ever ever ever gotten. Absolutely on point.
Mike malyska golhf instructoro
Why?
To keep the blog going
Great listening to AJ. He knows what he is talking/teaching about. Great video!
"It's easy to be precise in this game and you don't need to be." Wow...now that is wisdom. I'm taking that to the bank.
Awesome stuff and I get it now...having the top of the club move over the bottom speeds everything up. Thanks.
is it me but when you hit it well, there is an amazing thwack sound?
Can you get a closeup of cupping the wrists?
Cupping the wrists at set up is very interesting - maybe an unintended consequence, but I have found that it results in a fantastic transition.
A J you r a legend. I’m 6 handicap my natural shot is draw but when my game goes wrong it turn into duck hook shots. I had so many lessons but since i watch this video man I can’t explain my feelings. Thanks very much for explaining in such details.
Please do a close up video of the wrist cupping in the setup and what the face looks like. Interesting stuff.
I am confused also about wrist cupping at set up..could not see it as your back was turned...discussing stan Leonard.😎
The cupped wrist at the top was Hogans "Lightbulb moment " to stop his low hooks .He talks about it in an interview .....
Like the simple idea to teach your self how to hook/slice the ball by controlling the face that bit is good for any type swing...and the comment about the 90 yard toss of the football by Daly, he did not mention that ball would have sliced or hooked into the stands.
Great video. Would like to here AJ's thoughts about the modern tour pros that keep the left wrists bowed throughout the swing like DJ does.
Stan Leonard discussion starts at 25:00, cup the left wrist going back, cover the ball coming down.
He’s dead?
i accidentally put the ball on my driver position and damn i was hitting it so clean. this is a great video.
thank you!
Great series and great job in bringing these golf guru's to your channel .I have had some good results after watching and listening to aj, monte ,malaska . Has any of them had a lasting impact on your game ?
I think so, all layers of skills. It's gradual and then all at once, like a war.
Pros do this all the time. open the face and do the reverse motorcycle move with left hand. All sports have timing.. it's ridiculous to think that golf is different. Great video.
funny thing is that I was constantly taking my eyes from AJ to watch the moving spots on the scree, the hot air balloons in the distance!
A.J. in talking about Stan Leonard's secret is actually more or less describing "The Hogan Twist".
Ernie Santamaria he is just making movies. He will go to any interesting sw8ng coach
Where is the tip jar? This has helped me more than any lesson I have ever taken.
Great thought provoking video. Interesting how Hogan too, had a cupped wrist at the top of his backswing and bowed wrist at impact.
Great video. I revisited at my pro teacher suggestion. At 7:00 where is the spot on the club face? Past mid point?
How does the nail thing work for short irons with more loft?
Ogs in the game actually giving hands the credit they deserve.
Wow.. man.. legend Aj
AJ is not one the best, he is The Best golf teacher. Period.
The next day when I played with it it was going solid right. I kept the top over bottom feel but didn't need the Stan Leonard set up.
When are you going to have A.J. On again?
Great content- love how you’re going to all the RUclips gurus!
Hit it low is a great swing thought. I hit it higher when I think hit it lower. It does take eye hand coordination but that’s what golf is all about.
Great video!
A.J. is a genius!
Dang!!! Such a master this guy! Wow!
Lol. I have to change EVERYTHING in my golf swing. And I thought it was good. 😂
If you attack the inside quadrant of the ball at impact, the center of the clubface remains the proper point of contact. Probably not a lot of difference in flight from center of contact of the ball. Center being in relation to you and the target line.
