    I can appreciate that this move is not for everyone, but Mike's philosophy has proven to be the missing puzzle piece for me, erasing 18 months of absolutely ridiculous swing thoughts. Having pretty solid hand/eye and getting into the self taught RUclips golf instructor world of hitting certain magical spots to achieve a sought after golf swing has been maddening. The Malaska Cam video of the hand/wrist path as well as a few other of his fundamental videos have proven to be the holy grail for me. Stack and Tilt made sense for me and felt repeatable and like I was using my body's full power potential. Not the case! So much tension, the difference is night and day. Unreal the rabbit holes we go down. Thank you Mike! Looking forward to getting down to Arizona for a lesson sometime in the near future.

    I watched Bobby Clampett play in college and he had it all . I watched him as a pro and he got so shallow he couldn't break 75 . Never could believe someone so good could destroy his game so thoroughly . He is a great guy but boy could he play at 20 years old but lost it all getting flatter and flatter . I played at Wake Forest in 80s and later was a PGA club pro . The flatter and more shallow you get the less time and distance the clubhead gets on the target line . Love your videos .

      So are you saying it's ok to be steep with the driver? That's always been a problem for me being too steep and then over the top and then hitting it 2 way miss

      not at all but try finding some videos of Bobby Clampett almost leading the US Open as an amateur and compare to the last couple years he was on tour He was so flat it was ridiculous and truthfully I have never seen anyone so flat .

      My college roommate at San Diego State played w' Clampett in high school and we also witnessed an incredible college player get 'lost in swing mechanics'. I remember seeing him at Torrey Pines (BYU) then Torrey again a few years later and Ben Doyle said Bobby was trying to draw it and fade it at the Same time! Bobby said he was just trying to mimic Mark O'Meara' flat action saying Mark was the best ball striker in the world however even Mark would later go more upright which was his natural move.

    This video should watched by every struggling golfer. I'm a 16 handicap aiming to get to single figures and have not just plateaued but got worse this year. After just one range session i shot 49/39 & 46/37...I rarely shoot under 40 for 9 holes, now I've done it twice in a week. Delivering the club this way has fixed my slice and early extension caused from the shallowing drills taught on other channels. NEVER going back.

  • @liquidmocofilmsllc4915
    @liquidmocofilmsllc4915 3 года назад +41

    Just wow! I finally experienced the Malaska move at the range. I am completely in shock of what happened. I'm pretty sure I increased my clubhead speed by at least 10mph. It feels so natural like I'm throwing a ball from the normal upright position. Other teachers teach "a throw" but its more of an underhand throw. To me, this actuallly feels like you are throwing a pitch from your natural position to the side of your body (over the top from the inside). Mike is so dead on also, when he says that once your drop your hands down you can fire as hard as you want. This man has change my golf game forever. I always wondered why I couldn't hit my drives as far as I knew I could and it was because every teacher/golf pro told me that I needed to come from the inside. That same old in to out , in to out, in to out, blah blah blah.... This whole time I have been fighting the natural physics/momentum of the club head!!! My 8 iron replaced my 6 iron in distance with one damn move! Thanks a million Mike Malaska! Absolute genius!

    • @richardhillman1800
      @richardhillman1800 2 года назад +1

      I struggle with unthinking the wrists early, flipping a little too early, losing lag and distance. You can get away with it on driver cause the ball is teed up and maybe you leave yourself a shot out of another fairway even if you off plane. But with irons this makes it so much easier to understand

    • @rortys.kierkegaard9980
      @rortys.kierkegaard9980 2 года назад +3

      @@ryankinman199 remember… he’s “showing” the feel. Hands at waist level, shaft pointed at the ball, ‘bump’ the left hand (right hand is the fulcrum) so the club head moves to the outside of the hands. This ‘bump’ helps keep the club head, throughout the swing, on line, shallow, and doesn’t change the momentum. It is actual effortless power, no back/hip strain. This move is better than Harvey Penick’s

    This video and others on the “ Malaska Move” are a game changing revelation! Everyone who struggles with golf needs to watch this and Mike's other videos on the L to L drills and once you get it...WoW! The ball shoots off the face, with compression in an almost effortless manner. The hardest part I found was getting out of trying to muscle the club or over swinging. Just let the club run into the back of the ball and if you need more distance just club up. Your consistency will improve dramatically. I know mine did...dropped my handicap to a 9. Thanks Mike and Brendan.

    I just had the "I can't believe it's this simple" moment after drilling this move with progressively faster swings. Getting the hands out front with this move is so much more natural feeling than other hands forward swing tips that I've tried. Hands out in front, turn as hard as you want, don't try to manipulate with your hands through impact. Amazing!!! Thank you!!!

    This works so well for me. I was stuck a lot due to my misconception about swinging inside out. And, I suspect like Mike, I was a good athlete, with a baseball and basketball background. So, with good hand eye, I could time my flip reasonably well somedays such that I could shoot mid 70' s. But when I was off, I struggled. With this feeling, tipping the head out, I am much more consistent and started breaking par for the first time in my 60s. How I wish I had found this sooner.

    Thank you! This is so enlightening and Mike is a really great golf instructor. Clearly what he says makes so much more sense than any other instruction I have ever had. It also explains some of the issues I’ve been trying to fight natural positions over some positions that some instruction I’ve had, i.e., shallowing the club, where as Mike explains you are shallowing the arms and then getting the club head moving in the correct position to make better contact with the ball. Shallowing the club has been such a physically and mentally difficult task for me because it just doesn’t work for me. It puts my hands way out in front, I get the flipping hands and end up with duck hooks. All the bad things Mike explained would happen have happened with my attempts at shallowing the club per my other instructors. Thanks Be Better Golf for doing this interview and keep up the fantastic work!!

    Mike is so on point with this move. It keeps your hands from raising the handle at impact and it keeps your hips back. You have all the space in the world to swing that club through. It's so easy on your back and you feel like you're whipping that club face threw impact at a 1,000 mph even when you're swinging the club slowly. You can also start to push away from the ball on your downsing and really get that trebuchet feeling. This really is combination of Monte's two drills "no turn cast" and "zipper away"

With Mike's move the feeling I have is the left shoulder drops and the right shoulder tips to tip the club on plane. I had joined Malaska one line web site a while back. As all golfer's you see something and say this can make me better......only to find you are inconsistent and go back to Mike, but I find this as a learning process I would hot understand it with out doing it wrong, I not afraid of making mistakes because you only get better with failer. Mike you are by far the best Instructor!

    I wish I knew this when I started playing. I only found this out for myself after 30+ years of hitting left and losing balls. Now I hit straight and further!😊

    Great video Brandon. I could listen to him teach all day. Lots of wisdom there. The folks that don't understand the "tipping the shaft" concept and think what he's teaching is heresy, don't understand the circle concept AT ALL!! There are no straight lines in golf. The club has to come around to the golf ball. What he said in this video just reinforced for me that I'm definitely on the right track in what I teach. Thanks for posting.

    I use "swinging above the ball" as a pre shot routine and a tempo drill. The result is my hands work correctly during the actual swing. If I don't add anything, like adding lag, I get good results. Thanks Brenden for the video. Mike teaches skills we can attain instead of concepts that are difficult to understand and then achieve.

    Two months ago I found and studied Malaska move, and practiced it in range and course. In 1 month time, against the same people in my flight,... I loss 9 UNDER im the first game and then won 7 UP in the second, in which I started to use the Malaska’s move...... Amazing... Great teacher and Great concept... Thank you Mr Malaska.

    I finally got fed up at the range and tried this, it worked. Very counter intuitive, the feel of throwing the club head so “early” in the swing, ie by the time the hands reach the right thigh on the downswing. One would think that would make for a fat shot or for a duck hook, but actually the rotation of the body puts you in a great impact position. In fact, it let’s me rotate more through the ball without pulling it dead left.

    I tried this "feel" he is demonstrating and I could not believe the difference! I was opening up too soon before, trying to create lag, but this little method kept me from going offsides and kept my plane solid and I hit the piss out of the ball with little effort!

    Listened to bits of this video, but I can tell you... great lesson! Best one I've seen on this series of videos. I don't know if too many will see it that way, but, IMHO a great lesson. This is what I would tell people (well, not exactly) if I could give lessons. (Don't know if anyone I would give a lesson would listen or appreciate this lesson, but...)

    Hey, this is awesome... I have been working on what to do with my swing. I tried a few different things that were making me hit left and right but rarely straight. I dont know if this is what I am doing now, I guess I will have to video myself and see but this is what I have been trying to do. I have been trying to get my hands back to my right thigh and the club has pretty much taken over from there, its like I dont even feel it go through impact while it turns me around with it.
    I sure wish I had money to take lessons but I dont so I will just continue to work on this.

    WOW! AT LAST. This is EXACTLY what I have been fighting against. The shaft being stuck behind me on the down swing. By pure chance my coach and I came up with this precise move as a drill to help get the club out in front of me. We also found that by having a completely weak grip with both hands as a drill made it easier to get the club into this "Corner" position. I can't praise this enough. Thank you,Thank you,Thank you.

    Hey Mike! I'm almost 63 and have been playing and teaching for almost 40 years. I turned pro in 1982 and carded first mini tour win in 1984. I've studied with some great teachers and players and have never stopped learning and want you to know that this is genius. The feeling of tipping the club in the downswing is something I've been accidentally experimenting with for sometime. Your explanation has clarified many things especially what I've been feeling while practicing the decent of my hands and arms with my back to the target. Staying turned away and allowing the hands and arms to come down is so important. You have refined my concept and made me a better teacher and player. Thanks so much, Rex.

    Best explanation yet, Mike. Good job you two, its finally makes sense to me. Mike, I've been working on the movement for quite some time now (about a year in an out of real scrutiny) finally starting to come together after pairing with another Be Better video with A.J. Bonar.
    "some thoughts about golf vs baseball"
    In baseball, the swing begins before the ball is at the impact position. In golf, the ball is just sitting there. My hypothesis is that in the golf swing, the trigger in the brain to instinctively hit the ball with athleticism ( therefore achieving the most powerful impact position instinctively) is lost because of the static position.
    In baseball, the brain triggers a more instinctive part of the brain, due to a high speed pitch being fired in your direction, and the necessity to anticipate the balls arrival. The way the body must move to hit the ball in baseball happens more instinctively because there is no time to react to a baseball pitch, its arrival must be anticipated.
    Interesting too that, in my observations, competent baseball players do not necessary translate to golf while hockey players have a much greater level of success. Maybe its due to the combination of adrenaline fueled athletic movements coupled with a similarly shaped stick.

    I love the level feeling tried that today. You need to feel at the top of swing that hands drop behind you .Again that's a feeling but helps to shallow the swing . Do that then turn the corner and get that level feeling . You will hit some nice draws. I'm getting this Malaska move the more I watch and practice. It works and easy.
