Yeah - the majority of the city still uses manual stretchers. The electric ones are being used at a few hospitals and I heard that the FDNY recently purchased some.
Given that hospital Ems battalions are funded by the hospital and at most maybe have 10 units including bls and als, from a business point of view they could spend the extra money and drop 17,000$ on a power stretcher. However since the FDNY Has over 200 ambulances ( I’m sure they have more ) within the 5 boroughs they’re not gonna be able to have 200+ power stretchers at a price point of over 10 grand...
I didn't know FDNY had BLS trucks. I'm not too surprised though, its a great cost savings solution.
