I'm pretty close to being an old fart and don't listen to much new music, but Theocracy hits me today just like Petra did back in the day (and still does).
Bob Hartman was a master of the rock riff and superb songwriter. If he would have written for the secular market , he would have been a millionaire many times over and NOT have to have a job when not touring.I love the fact that he chose to write for Yeshua.
This was one of my favorite songs when I was a young christian, they have so much deep meaning to their songs. I was praising God to one of Petra's songs blasting when God spoke to me above the music, He said "I love you," audibly, HE IS AWESOME!!! Praise God!
I was always a big fan of the Greg X. Volz era, and I never listened to much of these “newer” albums. I have can honestly say that this song just “knocks my block off,” with the great (warning) message, and the music! I can honestly say that I love ALL of Petra’s musical lineups! A great song from their earlier era with an admonition to stay close to Christ is “Run for the Prize!” It’s worth a listen!
tim othy I wholeheartedly agree. Though sadly, they won’t play this kind of music. The songs of the Christian rock we remember that preached soul convicting messages would be considered too negative by the “positive only” feel good modern Christianity crowd.
Lyrics Smell the burning powder? There's danger in the air A voice from deep inside is telling you, 'you must beware' Then enemy is watching Every step you take To find his opportunity in every choice you make And it's no game When someone lives without His grace And who's to blame When it blows up in their face It's a mine field - you'd better follow Him through God knows the way - you'd better stick like glue It's a mine field - better stay on His heels 'cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals So keep your head down and keep you eyes peeled 'cause life is... Life is a mine field Think the grass is greener? You'd better look around Everywhere you look another casualty is found The enemy is waiting For you to start to run Waiting like an itchy finger on a loaded gun Some may feel They can wander out too far They may heal But they may always wear the scar It's a mine field - you'd better follow Him through God knows the way - you'd better stick like glue It's a mine field - better stay on His heels 'cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals So keep your head down and keep you eyes peeled 'cause life is... Life is a mine field Better leave the navigation to the One who knows the Way He will bring illumination He will light your path each day It's a mine field - you'd better follow Him through God knows the way - you'd better stick like glue It's a mine field - better stay on His heels 'cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals So keep your head down and keep you eyes peeled 'cause life is... Life is a mine field It's a mine field - better watch where you tread Step off the path and you could end up dead It's a mine field - better stay on His heels 'cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals It's a mine field - you'd better follow Him through God knows the way - you'd better stick like glue It's a mine field - better stay on His heels It's a mine field - better watch where you tread.
I know, I listened 2 them at 9 years old and I tried to memorize the words, I heard it now 25 yrs later STILL ROCKS & TUGS ON YOUR 💗 STRINGS n rocks 4 every one! Amen 🙏
This song and the whole On Fire album brings back all the memories of my early teens and the summer Christian camp i used to goto. thanks for posting. LuWiSoMo =]
this is the only rock song I have heard, ever, that I would give 10 out of 10 for production, 10 out of 10 for musicianship and 10 out of 10 for composition. This is a product of the kind of excellence that I think Bach himself would have been very impressed by.
They really weren’t a heavy metal band for the most part, but did have many hard rock songs similar to this one from their On Fire album released in 1988 and from their This Means War album released a year before. They did get heavier in 2001 when they released their Jekyll and Hyde album, but that was their last studio album before disbanding in 2005. The albums that came after that were just collections of songs that were released in years past and they had a reunion album that featured this singer and their original lead singer Greg Volz together.
from a musicological perspective, I remain convinced that this is the finest rock recording, ever. This scans like a piece from Bach's Mass in B Minor.
I have been reading the writings and sermons of ...Hugh Latimer ....and his ..Sermon of the Plough ....and .. Who is the greatest bishop of all of England ?....)..... This song can be a good reference and reflection of that ..All Time Classic Sermon ... to his prelates and bishops a few years before his execution .....Study, read ...and learn these precious truths and history of those that have gone before us .... Yes if we step of the path we could wind up dead ..HE WHO ENDURES UNTIL THE END SHALL BE SAVED..
No Christian band of today hits it like Petra. Metal, grindcore and hard rock with a strong Christian message. Nothing like it out there to this day.
I agree with you they were special but i think they were always lead of God I'm not sure how many quote in quote christian bands are today sadly
I'm pretty close to being an old fart and don't listen to much new music, but Theocracy hits me today just like Petra did back in the day (and still does).
Check out audio vision -keep keep the fire burning. It's kind of more along the lines of power metal. It's good though
Have you listened to Strypers last 4 albums?
grindcore? really?

Amen bro very true is a Master Riff even in the secular band you can't find Riffs and hooks like Bob Hartman did
His Heavenly reward is waiting 🙌🏼
Who in 2021 miss PETRA?
Nobody mentioned the real heroes of this album: the Elefante Brothers. The right production skills at the right time.
🐘

As long as the time passes by, this music becomes more real.
Thanks for posting these. God greatly used their music in my life as a teen. Forgot how true and fun their music love is. Love it.
Great music! Petra's message was always relevant and doctrinally sound.
And is hence timeless and relevant even today. God be praised
Incredible band🙆♀️music, songs so originally, it’s pleasure listen him🙏🔥only 2023, like always🙏Kisses you💋
I’m a 15-year-old guy and I think I’m the only teen in the world who likes Petra. Are there any others?
Me!
You’re not alone... this is my favorite band!
I’m 51 and loved Petra since I was in my teens, and still do.
I'm 14
Had the pleasure to meet John three times, so awesome and authentic. Love Petra. This song especially.
I saw these guys in concert!!! Amazing!!! Before and after Greg.

This is a truly timeless song. If it were released today for the first time, it would still be applicable to 2014. A true classic!
+James Edgar 2016 and still 2 true.
Agent the same in 2017.
Very much relevant in 2017!
And 2018!
2021!!!
This is the song that has started my lifelong Petra addiction.
K-LOVE SHOULD PLAY THIS!!
tim othy I wholeheartedly agree. Though sadly, they won’t play this kind of music. The songs of the Christian rock we remember that preached soul convicting messages would be considered too negative by the “positive only” feel good modern Christianity crowd.
Agreed
Indeed
K-LOVE is for soccer moms in mini vans and background music at dentist offices.
This is truly a warning to hang fast to the Lord. These days this song is critical for Christians.
Lyrics
Smell the burning powder?
There's danger in the air
A voice from deep inside is telling you, 'you must beware'
Then enemy is watching
Every step you take
To find his opportunity in every choice you make
And it's no game
When someone lives without His grace
And who's to blame
When it blows up in their face
It's a mine field - you'd better follow Him through
God knows the way - you'd better stick like glue
It's a mine field - better stay on His heels
'cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals
So keep your head down and keep you eyes peeled
'cause life is...
Life is a mine field
Think the grass is greener?
You'd better look around
Everywhere you look another casualty is found
The enemy is waiting
For you to start to run
Waiting like an itchy finger on a loaded gun
Some may feel
They can wander out too far
They may heal
But they may always wear the scar
It's a mine field - you'd better follow Him through
God knows the way - you'd better stick like glue
It's a mine field - better stay on His heels
'cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals
So keep your head down and keep you eyes peeled
'cause life is...
Life is a mine field
Better leave the navigation to the One who knows the Way
He will bring illumination
He will light your path each day
It's a mine field - you'd better follow Him through
God knows the way - you'd better stick like glue
It's a mine field - better stay on His heels
'cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals
So keep your head down and keep you eyes peeled
'cause life is...
Life is a mine field
It's a mine field - better watch where you tread
Step off the path and you could end up dead
It's a mine field - better stay on His heels
'cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals
It's a mine field - you'd better follow Him through
God knows the way - you'd better stick like glue
It's a mine field - better stay on His heels

Always one of my favorites !!
This art is perfect.
I freakin love the intro. John just going WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Praise God for Petra. I need some music that means it.
Lol ...!... Timeless truths for today in our whitewashed , lukewarm ,. compromising church..
This song has stuck in my brain since I first heard it back in 1988. Be aware of where you are stepping.
Don't want to step wrong or you'll be dead Jim ^.^
+TheTalk J.E.T. Only the guys in red shirts step on them :D

Praise God,His Holy name!!
My first time listening to Petra and I NEVER knew they were a heavy metal band!

That metal scream in the beginning...
Lol
this the hardest and coolest song on this cd. i got it.
I don't consider myself a believer anymore, but this album is truly a masterpiece, it reminds me my childhood.
come back sister
Jesus first loved you... now... where else can you go and who else can you follow .. Jesus is the way.
He still believes in you, someday your child like faith will return.
musicologically speaking, this work rubs shoulders with Bach.
jamie .jamie
You’ve said this about 15 times already
Put on the full ARMOR of GOD repel the fiery darts of darkness. . Then STAND in the LIGHT 🌟
and in the gap
from a musicological perspective, I remain convinced that this is the finest rock recording, ever. This scans like a piece from Bach's Mass in B Minor.
Tremendo mensaje,,asi es, lejos de el, hay peligro
Thanks mother for showing me real music. My friends can have their cardi B

When was the last time you heard contemporary Christian music talk about the devil? Because it's been too long.
@impact360 indeed he is goooooooooooooooood
🙏
why is the volume of song changing its level... sounds bad. but anyway great song!
go listen jackal& hyde , their last cd( i think) its hardrock/metal style ^^
Can I get a link, searches come up with other stuff. Thank you.
ROCK YEAH
7 people tried their own way and stepped on a mine
this is the only petra song i like. And maybe a few others. lol The others are just alil slow.
Maybe check out the Jekyll and Hyde album if you haven't already
...I believe that J.S. Bach would have cited 'Minefield' as the finest Christian work of the 20th century
We have to be lead by Jesus, His Holy Spirit, And His "Word," the rest is a "Minefield."
good band , too bad they don't record anymore and their CDs are of varying prices 😒
Apple iTunes to the rescue
Only flaw in this song is the fade-out at the conclusion. This song needed a well thought out ending. Otherwise it is one of Petra's best.
Immer noch unerreicht!
...i would like to see robert plant try and hit that top A
I wonder how many times this song has reinforced generalized anxiety disorder.
well, at least john schlitt made a song to help lower anxiety - keep your light on.
Is it on a Petra album or a solo album? Or for that matter, did someone else record it? I appreciate your participation, by the way.
you can find it on youtube. It's not by petra, it's by john schlitt, on his album "the grafting". I'm not sure who recorded it though.
"Speak to the Sky" comes to mind. Perhaps I should go outside and listen to the Voice in the Wind...
I've actually found that this song helps me vent my anxiety/deal with my anxiety.
🤣🤣🤣
satan bless petra
huh?
