- What causes Hump Neck or A Dowager’s hump?
Bad posture, looking down on phones and laptops are the most common cause of a dowager’s hump or hump neck. You have an increased curve in the upper neck so you have to lift the head, so it protrudes forward.
Other possible causes include:
Osteoporosis. A compression fracture causes the increased forward curve. This makes you drop your head forward more than normal and then pull it back and up to see forward. It’s those two things that cause the bump in the upper back.
Congenital problem. Less frequently, the spine doesn’t form properly before birth.
Scheuermann’s kyphosis. This shows up in teenagers, when the spine develops into a wedge shape instead of a rectangle.
If your hump is the result of obesity, a diet and exercise regimen may help treat it.

I swear to god if this doesn’t work I will destroy something. Im thirteen and I have a pretty large neck hump and it makes me so insecure. I don’t put my hair up and I just leave it down for months at a time
I'm thirteen too! Makes me insecure like all the time. I literally leave my hair down so it can be hidden. But seriously these exercises do work. Just do them at a time every single day to see the results.
Pls don't be insecure about this! There's no need to!!! I am 16 also with quite a big hump and I wear my hair up whenever it's hot. Nobody has ever said something about it or even looked at it. Literally nobody cares! It's good tho that you want to fix it!

I’m going to give this a try because not only does my bad posture cause a lot of pain especially when I try not to slouch but it puts a lot on my mental health. 😪
for your slouching issue, you can train your Core. Try this Basic Core Exercise. We have clients that start from Level 1 and some start at Level 3. Let me know where you at.. :D

Young people have this hump. It used to be old people but now the young people have it more.
Also you can just hold your phone higher up in addition to these exercises. It might look strange kind of like you're taking a picture. Maybe just try and do it at home

there's no quick fix. as you said "looking down... for long periods of time..." this issue has build up over a long period of time... but after 2 weeks of consistently doing this, you should see improvement and about 1-2months, you should be good with your posture.. remember to do it daily and it really depends on how bad you want to fix your posture

For someone who does have bad posture, Is it normal to have a lot of neck pain and stiffness when doing any kind of posture workout?
Hi erica, yes. you will feel uncomfortable when doing this exercise because your posture is out of the norm. You can try asking someone else that doesn't have a forward head to try this, and they should be able to do it easily.
Yes. I hv been doing it for 8 days. But not exactly this exercise, but from other trainer, it's really painful. Even I hv a headache. Guess my hump really need to be fixed asap.

It is not fat! It is how your spine curves and can be fixed and appear less fat with muscle strengthening exercises.

you can regress and do it against the floor with knees bend, lower back pushed down

do you mean when you move your head side to side and there is cracking?
you can try putting heat pack around your neck to warm it up and improve blood circulation before doing this exercise.

yes it's normal to feel cracks cos of the stiffness.. heat pad or heat rub cream/gel will help with those stiff neck

probably you have an excessive curve in your neck.. doing chin tucks against the wall will help.

This exercise creates a bit pain in upper back .. is it normal ?
pain no.. tight yes.. if its painful, that's because your upper back is super tight.. u need to release the tightness first..

if pain and swollen, ice the area first. reduce they swell and pain with cold therapy. when your better, i'll suggest to use Warm pack around your neck and upper back before doing this exercise
I use to have it but I gymed and ran. Toned up and lost weight and its gone now

I have seen a few, it’s very much possible if you are consistent, watch your posture and don’t expect results straight away. You need to do it for a little while for results to be seen

It means your shoulders, arms, back is too tight and restricted. You need to release those tight muscles.

imagine your ears moving backwards, towards your ears. that way you you should be able to move head backwards and tuck in your chin. hope it helps 😀
