Thanks for sharing your tips Ben. The only safety backups that I don't have are water sensors and a generator.

    Hey Ben,
Great video. You missed a great safety tool for sump users though. If anyone didn't know already, look into washing machine overflow shutoffs.
These are amazing tools for shutting anything off when water is detected. I used one to shutoff the return pump in my sump to protect me from a clogged overflow causing water to overfill the aquarium and flood the room.
They can be used for other aquarium applications as well.

Kind of lucky now that I live in Florida don’t need heater. I bought one when I set up tank. House stays at 78 degrees all year long. Also bought a controller which I don’t need. Another good thing is water comes out warm when I do water changes so I don’t have to worry about hot water running out. Make water changes easy.

Thanks for your info as always Ben.
I do have an idea, an idea I saw on Facebook. I think it might be a good idea to have flex tape on hand for those cracks in our aquariums that can suddenly appear.
The fellow had a 5000 gal. tank in his basement and used the tape to temporarily stop the waterfall coming from the glass. It worked great until he was able to replace the glass. You won’t be using that glass anyway. That tape was so strong he couldn’t get it off showing us how strong it was. I have a 130 gal tank and live in a condo, I think I’m going to purchase the tape for the, just in case, moment. You never know.

The last hurricane we had here in Florida I used a bait bucket, battery operated air bubbler, and it kept all my fish alive for more than two weeks 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Great tips Ben the only thing I'm lacking is a whole home generator. I do have a solar generator battery back up. But I need to invest in a generator that can handle my entire home.

If you're in an area that gets extreme weather or is prone to power outages, then yes, it's highly recommended. It's like a parachute. You don't need one often, but when you do, you better have one!

@@BenOchart yes I'm in Texas in tornado ally. And with 7 tanks and a ton of fish I really need to consider it. My battery powered generator can't handle all my tanks running sponge filters and in my big Cichlid tank I run the wave maker and it will handle that load between 12 to 15 hours

Hi Ben, Great tips, What kind of Water Alarms do you recommend, also what heater controllers do you use?? There are so many different ones, it's kind of confusing
    Thanks!

Thank you. The WatchDog shown in the video works well and is very affordable. But you can go high-tech and get one that sends an alert to your phone. With controllers InkBird is a good inexpensive choice. Just make sure that the controller you get is rated to handle the watts that you will be running through it. For high end controllers check out jehmco.com. I have two from them with double plugs rated at 1800 watts for my bigger tanks. Rock solid battleships.

ben you talked about this product a long time ago, and I got it, and last week it went off. I was out to dinner and came home to a loud sound going off.at first I thought it was the smoke detector going off. No, it was by canister filter leaking. Replaced the o ring to my sun sun 403b and was back up and running

Why not just dose the food with vitachem?

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  Месяц назад +1

Good question. That’s not how VitaChem instructs it be used. The foods I feed are pretty loaded with vits and mins, VitaChem helps to fill the gaps.

@@BenOchart it’s says exactly how to do it on the bottle though. “Several drops in food once daily”. I always soak my frozen cubes in a shot glass of water with 8 drops vitachem
