Lookin good Marcus, didn't think Heidi was gona b this pretty, had a mk2 in beige, a two door, nothing special, of all the 13 16 sports, I always wanted a harrier ❤️😍
On the clutch release bearing tube and the starter motor pinion, it's a good idea to use copper grease instead of normal because it can withstand higher temps - normal grease will melt, run out and make a mess. 👍
Nice work Marcus 👍👍
The engine is very good keep going
You are making awesome progress with her mate!! She is looking sweet. You need to stop worrying about what subscribers say. It’s your car and you build it how you want and the way your happy with! At the end of the day you’re saving another Old Ford and keeping it on the road. There are people who take years to do what you’re doing. You’re smashing it and getting great results. Can’t wait for the first start up. Let me know when you’re doing it as I would love to be there!!😂 got to be honest I am missing the Maude content. Great work and great video as always mate. Legend!!!👍🏻
Thanks for the positivity as always Mr Bamber! 👍 Maude will defo be getting some love soon-ish. . . . . . or getting scrapped, one of the 2!! 😃
Looking really good now. Brake lines look fab to me. Ballast resistors usually built into the loom on later cars, is there a Haynes to tell you. Idea is with engine running the coil LT side is fed through the ballast. With ignition on position three to start, as the battery volts dip with the starting effort, the electrics should short out the ballast resistor and let the coil see the full (dipped) battery terminal volts. In your case I wonder if that bulkhead solenoid might perhaps have the ballast resistor built into it. If you do any tests to figure it out be careful that full 12volts might burn some coils after a certain length of testing time. Hmmm perhaps you have an old scrap coil for that, just in case. If Ian's coil doesn't need a ballast (but the car has one) you may I guess need to bypass the ballast on ignition position 2. Anyhow, look forward to how you get on with that, and on this car nice to keep it orig and not fit electronic ignition. Look forward to the next installment. P.S. Remember orig panel gaps may not have been as good as modern cars.
Marcus Hayes - loving the build videos and the meet up and event videos are so cool. Unfortunatly we really don't have these events here in Australia, though I did go on a few Cortina cruises back in the early 2000's with my mk4 corty, really miss that. Anyhow I have a question that hoping someone can answer. I have a mk3 Cortina project which I have started working on again after sitting for a very long time. Engine wise I was looking at doing something different, as here in Australia we mainly stick with the Big 6's that are good for power but a little front heavy. So thinking of sticking a ST170 into my mk3 Cortina, question is does anyone make conversion kits or do people have to make up the engine/gearbox mounts?
Speed shack are super guys to deal with, im in Ireland and even with the brexit headache he sorted me out with parts and was so helpful, without guys like that the scene would die for sure ,legend
Steve has been around so many years and he's helped me out loads of times. Proper legend. 👍
Great job Marcus. your hard work is really paying off! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
👍
Hey Marcus. What is the original carb the mk2 runs on? Because mine has a 38 weber twin barrel. And i dont think its the original. Believe here in RSA they came out with the 32 weber? Don't know.
1600 engines got the 32dgav. 1300s got the single choke carb except for the gt cars
Please get the carb Refurbish it all looks so good and that just lets it down the engine bay is looking mint 😊
A new one would be better. The throttle shaft wears and then leaks air so the idle mixture cannot be set properly
🤔
@@marcushayesfordPut a twin Weber on it mate. Had one of these singles on my 1300 25yrs ago and it barely made it up a steep hill. You’ll struggle in modern traffic too. 32/36 Weber all the way 👍🏽
Well done Marcus the extra effort will pay off in the presentation.
Thanks mate! 👍
The engine bay and engine are looking so much better than what they would of when they came out of the factory can not wait to hear it run Marcus👍👍
Hoping for a first fire up very soon mate. 👍
Thank you Marcus made my day the old m health has been off past couple of days hydie is looking great can't wait for the next video mate thank you for the inspiration take care mate
Thanks mate! 👍 Hope you feel better soon! 🤞
Thanks mate gonna try some work on bonnie today my 1600 gl capri
im pretty sure that the coil on the xflow mk2 i owned was mounted on the offside inner wing mounted horizontally with the connections facing to the front of the car.
Thanks for the info mate! 👍
Nice one mate , great progress on the engine and gearbox and it helps when the sun comes out too 👍🏻👍🏻
Iv fitted a fair few gearboxes in the rain but its way better fitting them in the sun! 😃
You deserve many more Subscribers.
Thats very nice of you to say. I never even dreamed I would even get 100 subs when I started making videos. I try not to focus on the numbers to be honest. I enjoy making the videos, and they mean more to me than the analytics. If people continue to watch them, I'll keep making them. 👍
Fantastic video Marcus, good education on all things cross flow 👍
Thanks mate! 👍 Im re-learning as I go.
Looking great Marcus
Thanks mate! 👍
Looking mint Fleet 👌
Thanks mate! 👍 #fleetofscrap 🤪
@@marcushayesford you've worked hard , it's quite clear to me , and your patience is brilliant 👏
Great stuff Marcus 👊
👍
It's defo came along away from when you first started it..well done mate.👍
Thanks mate! 👍
The air filter needs a seal to fit between the carb and filter it should lip into the air filter filter edge
Yes Im hoping to source the missing rubber piece so that I can run the original air box. 👍
Ers nothing wrong with your brake pipes Marcus . Thanks for the mention on the bonnet cable . Trying to get my XR2i ready for some shows up in Scotland . Hiydie’s looking the dogs dangles 👌🏼
Thanks mate! 👍 Good luck with the Fez.
Wow 👌
Absolutely killing it squire !
Ps I need a type 9 speedo cable for my moordoor 😁
Thanks mate! 👍 i'll try to remember to bring it with me next time I visit.
Fantastic progress mate!! As another comment yes the ballast resistor is built into the main wiring loom, if you do remove it you won't need that extra feed from the solenoid, its a cold start 12volt feed to coil for a bit extra boost when its cold...obvs 🤣 if you keep the b/r then definitely wire it in.. But the coil you have there won't be suitable. From memory I think the throttle linkage is different between a Mk1 and Mk2 🤔 there should be a little bracket to support the clutch cable, bolted to the crossmember 👍
Thanks for the info mate! 👍 I remember those clutch cable brackets now you mention it. Could easily make one up. As for the 12v coil, is there any down sides to ditching the ballast and keeping the points???? I know years ago I had to ditch the ballast to run electronic ignition, but Im planning to keep Heidi on points old skool style. 👍
@@marcushayesford yeah easy enough to make a bracket mate. I had a 1300 Mk2 years ago with a ballast resistor fault, we just removed it, replaced it with the equivalent wire and used a full 12v coil, it just ran standard points and condenser with no issues 👍
The ballast resistor is built into the loom from standard , you will need a suitable coil to match otherwise you will get a weak spark...
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍 I think I remember on a Mk1 it's a pink wire that has a solid core rather than multiple strands. I'll do some research to find out where the ballast wire is on a Mk2. Or maybe I can simply measure the coil wire with my multimeter to find out?? 🤔
Your correct cut the pink wire out hidden in the loom and replace with normal wire.
Hope to see you at a car show this year 🚗💨
Defo come and say hello if you see me at any shows mate. 👍
Painted box well done .dust cover for clutch cable?
And get the carb vapour blasted
Defo need to see if Iv got a cable dust cover somewhere. 👍
M8.....shes looking awesome....
Cary
Nz
Thanks mate! 👍
Looking good bud well chuffed for you break lines are fine as you said a while ago it's not a full show car as long as they work lol I would get the bonnet stay done in the zinc
Thanks mate! 👍 Defo need a better bonnet prop but for now Im just happy to not ruin the paint with a broom handle! 😃
Is getting dangerously close to be finished 👏
You are going to put the steel wheels and standard ride or is going to have some alloys and a little stance?
Still loads to do but Im defo moving in the right direction. She's already dropped at the front and I'll throw some lowering blocks in the rear. I have a spare set of revo alloys in the garage for her too. 👍
Looking good buddy. Ignore people moaning about your brake pipes, sad f*****s!
When are you sending her for paint?
@17:28 A little tidying up he says 🤣
I had no idea the Titanic ran a crossflow engine 😂
The clutch also had the right bearing on the Titanic.. FYI..
@@R6AAO I don't get the joke..
Hello.what material is the anti rattle sleeve for the pivot pin
Not sure mate. Seemed very similar to coolant hose rubber???
Thank you again for your assistance much appreciated 👍🙏
The coil does go in the left hand corner by the brake master cylinder
Moving on now 👍💯
Defo moving in the right direction mate! 👍
Did you use nyloc nuts on the exhaust manifold? They will melt!
Nope. They are the original exhaust manifold nuts. They are kind of slightly oval shaped which makes them lock. 👍
Marcus great video mate
Wack a twin choke on the 1300
Like the one on a mk1 fiesta
Am sure that gearbox is 1100 as the bellhousing is not separate as will 1.3, 1.6,2.0
Turn your stater solinoid round as well terminals face rad you have to check that the starter meshing with ring gear it might be pre engaged not that inertia one you have so you won’t need solinoid
Every 1.1 and 1.3 x-flow should have come with type-2 gearbox that has integral bellhousing.
@countmurcielago9802 I had a felling the solenoid should be the other way round. The starter came with the engine, as did the flywheel. Pretty sure the other type of starter has a solenoid on the side of it and this one didn't. 👍
hey dude how's it going hows your mental health at the moment? no seen any of your vids for a while
do u still do the other channel about mental health? can u give me a link to it if its still on the go i enjoyed it
just some info that carburetor has a little ball bearing in it . if for any reason you take the top off it when it is still attached to the engine do not operate the throttle as the little ball bearing can jump out go down inlet manifold and you will only find out when you start up the engine and what ever cylinder it decides to go in will make a lovely mess . its a part of the accelerator pump how do i know it happened to someone i know 😎
Thanks for the info mate! 👍
Need to put a brace on the brake pipes at the master cylinder, at least link them together.
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍
read the workshop manual you nit
I can’t read. 😀
Can't not appreciate Heidi 👆🏻 satin black, I get off eBay, Hycote, it's not bad, never have reactions
'Heidi' gets a lot less hate than the other 2! 😃
@@marcushayesford 😂 more the love 💯
@@marcushayesford just a thought incase you haven't, try looking up Mk2 Escort parts Fiche, I would think you could get one for every individual model from somewhere, they're usually that detailed you can tell if it's the right part or not
It’s not an aeroplane it’s a car. It’s not a cockpit. You don’t need to tell everybody what you doing because everybody should know if they come if I do cars about both bolted to the Balling visiting blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
Do you need a cuddle????
Hi mate engine is looking great you can use autosol chrome cleaner on the carb with a microfiber cloth and a toothbrush 🪥 for the nooks and crannies and a good buff up will look a lot better...Mike
Thanks for the tip mate! 👍
