hey Scottie, Mate you have come along way but your technique needs improving ......when the trout is jumping out of the water, get your rod down and keep the line as tight as possible and pull the line in the opposite direction to where the fish is going. If the trout jumps to your rights, rod down and you get your rod to the left (opposite)..... the aim is to change the trout direction and prevent it from spitting the hooks upon its jump. If you pull the line hard over your head there is no tension between the lurer hooks and your line when the trout is out of the water.......... this is why your trout are spitting the hooks.... well done and keep the fishing for trout coming.... really enjoying it. Take care and all the best. P.s dropping low pressure and trout never works out too well !!

    • @BDCF100
      @BDCF100 3 года назад +3

Good advice but if the fish has some weight to it lower your rod tip toward the fish when he jumps and then quickly tighten back up after the jump. A tight line will pull the lure/hook out when a heavy fish jumps.

HI mate.... take of hooks from a shop bought lure.. to a kamasan or something of that ilk.
Use the wind to tour advantage cast down stream! and across, and fill your spool with 2 kilo line within 1.5 mm
of your spool edge.(for this stream)
Try taking of the first treble hook off and even replacing the last(TALE) with a single long shank 10 or 12.
Personally I would trot down a worm casting up and across and walking down 2 meters from the
bank!... the length of the pool with a pennel rigg size 14 or 12.

Okay some tips for your thoughts fishing. The light gauge hooks on your favourite lure are not to small or light for the size fish your catching. Many brands like Daiwa Pressos for example have fine wire hooks. You just have to make sure you don't crash the barbs on these hooks and make sure you run super light drag. but still enough to set the hooks. The other thing is when using Rapala Countdown CD5s in RT and BT you can stand above the pool cast with the wind and wind against the current as long as the current is not too strong. You actually can catch alot of fish doing that but you don't walk along the pool you walk wide and start at the top. Alot of fish are gonna sit along the banks and undercut edges. so by running your lure slowly against the current and by repeating the cast many time you cause the trout to reaction strike the lure if they are not feeding. Believe it or not the majority of Trout we catch here in SA Are from Midday to 2pm and then 4pm till dark

When you hook a fish and it's close to the bank and as you don't use a net, rather than trying to lift the fish in or hold the line to bring it in, just walk back a few steps until you bank it. I use this method when trout fishing or beach-casting.

Fortunately, as you did, we read the forecast carefully, so chose to camp up a side creek between ridgelines to keep protected. From about 4 pm Saturday it was 5 hours of torential rain with wind from all directions. The next two days were completely unfishable. @@ScottysGoneWalkabout We persisted as an act of sufference until Monday. We did know it was coming though, so had a plastic tarp and a Silky to provide some structure to our Saturday evening misery. Good snow tents and even better clothing make all the difference. Fly fishing in that wind was a tad challenging, but my mate caught a few on lures. By the time I tried lures on Sunday they were blowing back in my face at a dangerous speed. You ended up doing better than me, but thanks to my friend, we had trout tacos and trout Thai stir fry Friday and Saturday nights. We resorted to Tofu red curry Sunday night unfortunately. As I said, the best things in life are the worst at the time. Saturday evening was certainly interesting. I've had far worse (better) :).

Hah, I was just thinking its almost March Fly season down there, then you got a shot of one. Great vid, Scott. Always love the laid back vibe. If the wind direction is fairly consistent, try to make sure the base of the triangle formed by the tripod legs is facing the wind, it will be more stable (like bracing your leg behind you). it's hard if the wind is changing direction frequently though. Or if your tripod has a hook underneath, hang a bag of rocks from it.

  • @rodgeorge7244

Hi Scotty a little tip mate always upgrade your hooks because a lot of cheaper light weight lures have hooks that are not up to the job also in windy conditions like that with floating lures I like to cast down stream let the lure drift down 20 or so metres then slowly retrieve along the undercut banks the results can be worth the effort but keep a low profile when you do this love the vids mate ,keep them coming

Yeah, hooks only bent i think cause you took the give out of the line-tip. Try to avoid lifting up on either. When we were learning good to get the tip down in one of the lower sections on bank with you off to one side and just drag to fish up the bank. Keep tension on line with the rod holding it same as normal. Trout give up quick once on their side.

Love watching you videos... Bit hard for me to get out in the bush atm but you make me feel like im along side watching. Keep them coming and my only tip. Buy a metal detector, the places you go, the things you would find.😉👋

I see that most of the time you throw your lure upstream over al the fish that facing that way. Try to approach them fishing downstream . Start nearby and fish in a fan shape way longer out. You scare the fish less this way! Greeting Steven tide lines.

Bad luck on that brown, Scotty. Good advice on drag direction from others here.
I don't know that specific area, but by the looks of it, I'm pretty sure I could put you within 20km of where it is. Those boulder fields and the burn scars give a lot away.
More and more, I love the mindset of your work - you're living the way we all should try to.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Check you in 21!

Love the vid mate! Keep that rod tip high, making sure those hooks stay set. That looked like a cracker of a fish!

Swap all your hooks out for Decoys, Size 14 or whatever is closest. Don't go bigger it will mess with the balance and action of the lure. If you run good quality Japanese hooks, you won't need to go larger in size.
Decoy and Owner are the best two brands out of the readily available brands in most tackle shops for the small & fine hooks you will be after for lures for trout.
I always swap the hooks out for quality ones before even casting them if they are of unknown quality. Hooks are a good way for lure companies to save money, so often they run poor quality ones.
