For me, this is the best travel/adventure channel.
Very much appreciate that Tim!!
This guy has two dragonflies land by him. He saves them. He sees a quadruple rainbow. Epic
Could be the luck of the dragonfly
Absolutely peaceful and magical! Super cinema! Beautiful. Living the dream through your videos.
Searched on Big Sur, watched a few vids and fell asleep...woke up to the sound of your voice and ended up watching 2am.... nice to see a REAL outdoorsy man in the age of nonstop video playing addict whimpy guys.
Also, props to Erin for being an incredibly supportive and helpful partner in life. May God continue to bless you both with abundant joy in years to come.
I've spent my entire adult life commercial fishing around Vancouver Island and have never seen a quad rainbow, seen doubles. Epic trip Jon. :)
Thanks Allan! I don't suspect I'll ever see one again :)
I've never seen one anywhere - wow
Mrmbbb on RUclips constantly receives submissions of all rainbow variants. I submitted a rainbow pic to him that visibly showed it ending on the road in front of my truck. 4s are rare but not unusual
Allan: You have a lovely Boat, THE RAVEN, out of Sooke, I have seen it often when I am out fishing.
Just recently found your channel. Thank you so much for presenting the beauty of Superior with the respect it deserves. I am old now but spent much of my young adult life experiencing nature the way you are here. Hard to put it into words but you have brought me back to what is really important in this world. You are very skilled at making these videos …. Dont change anything !
I was taking a break from rebuilding the deck at our cottage when I saw your video. Two hours and three glasses of wine later I'm only capable of falling off a deck. Thanks for the great video. All hail the purple platypus! (hiccup)
How does this channel not have a million subs yet? Great content, great editing, great personality. Along for the ride! CHEERS!
because its boring

@@davidedwards8282 Yet, you're here watching.
@@davidedwards8282 Life is only as boring as *YOU* make it!
@@davidedwards8282 why do you watch boring videos??
I'm 60 retired from the Army. What you are doing is so inspiring. Makes me want to get out there again.
Much appreciated Julio!
Do it brother. Life is to short.
Watching this is such an amazing treat for me. I paddled the North Shore of Lake Superior many times when I was a young man back in the 1960's and 1970's. The opportunity you have to do this trip is a gift for you and a rare gift for us to ride with along. The trip harkens back to a simpler time that seems lost in this phony and complicated world we find ourselves in. That area will always be a wilderness, long after humans have burned out and are gone from the earth. So timeless.
Amen!
The whole earth will be a wilderness by then
-@@copyninja8756 Nice to think that could be true. We've had our chance and we've made a mess of it haven't we. The North Shore of Lake Superior exudes timelessness. I hope it can outlast what is surely to come.
@@michaeldoherty2289 I moved to MN and am just now realizing how wild this place actually is. Its a treasure.
@@AnyMotoUSA You are a lucky man. My heart will always live in the Minnesota Lake country and Lake Superior is the center of it. Where are you living? In the North? Enjoy it to the fullest. It is very special.
Double rainbow is the most I’ve seen in 56 yrs, you’re quadruple sighting was incredible!!!
Ahhh that was fantastic! Calm, entertaining and the sounds of nature has calmed my soul. I needed that. Thank you...so awesome!
Aw thanks for this!! 💚💚

Me too!! Serenity!!!
I really appreciated you sharing your trip with the world. I also appreciated every piece of trash you carried out in addition to whatever you brought with you. Thank you. I hope to experience Superior in the future
Thanks a lot Dan!
Definitely.
I feel like I just took a vacation in a place I never would have visited. You are very plesent to be around, very relaxing and yet exciting. Thank You.
Well shucks 🙂🙂 Thanks so much Thomas, I really appreciate that!
Thanks John I know alot goes into these and the quality just keeps getting better. Will finish watching tonight with the family. Take care friend!
Really appreciate that WTBOA!

The rainbows! That must have your mind spinning. We caught pics of the first four rainbows anomaly about two weeks ago. May have been the same ones you see! Great video. Killer fish. Priest lake. Caught my one and only lakey.
Thanks so much Scott! I remember my first laker too...Lake Simcoe :) Amazing that you saw a quad too. This one was back in June
Spectacular photography with a descent philosophy makes a good antidote for corona. Thanks.
You have created an incredible paean to Lake Superior. This video could have been broadcast on NOVA or Nature or National. In fact, it should be.
I do not know how but, somehow, you managed to accumulate the boatload of good karma required to get an opportunity like this.
When I was young, I did not have the freedom. Now that I have the freedom, I am old.
I am glad that you had the youth and the freedom, the will to do it, and the decency to share it with us.
Thank you.😎
Longest video on this channel..."watch at your own pace" rather than multi-part. *There are chapters in the description for each day if needed. I broke it up into three parts but didn't like it, so this way you can break it up any way you like.*
Must emphasize that this is not a beginner trip....if you want to start paddling this lake start small and build up.
Zack, one of the authors of the guidebook for the area, operates Such A Nice Day (SAND) Adventures out of Rossport if you want someone to take you out on the big lake. And Darrell, the other author, works for the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area.

"Watch at your own pace". My pace is BINGE when it comes to this channel.
I'd watch your videos at twice that length or series format Jon. Excellent trek. Only one porcupine for me. A cool creature for sure.
I love the longer ones! Split up by weeks, it's kinda hard to keep track, now my evening is booked!
@@ooopretty7596 LOL ❤️❤️
@@vtowner69 greatly appreciate that! They seem like a more commonplace animal, but yeah i never get to see em for some reason
Thanks for the quadruple rainbow and all the awesome opportunities to witness Lake Superior's beauty with you.
"Watch at your own pace"... Clearly you under estimate by binge watching abilities lol. Trip looked amazing, hope to get to Northern Superior sometime soon!
I had never heard "Hunger is the best seasoning". Awesome line.
I enjoyed that Pure escapism , and realization how beautiful Ontario is. Im from Alberta 🇨🇦
"Just a parting gift" That is a really cool way of looking at it.
Lake Superior is amazing. I’m from the shores of Lake Michigan, but visited Lake Superior and the crystal clear water and the rock formations are gorgeous. Never got a chance to fish it though.
Glad to see you wearing the dry suit. Look up cold water incapacitation or immersion. It often kills before hypothermia. My brother died in April, 2021 in Lake Michigan due to cold water incapacitation and subsequent drowning. Great video. Loved the trip.
I'm truly sorry for your loss Kayle, I can't imagine. You're too right about that...something to be taken with the utmost seriousness
4 rainbows that once in a life time event, Congrats it looked amazing.
Did anyone else see the “face” in the rock sticking up at Otter Island? Time stamp 56:59. Kinda reminds me of the carved rock faces on Easter Island. Very cool.
Yes I saw that as well....thought it looked like the face of a dog
Totally
I came across one of your videos about a week ago and I've been binge watching ever since so much so my husband is starting to get concerned LOL but I just wanted to say that it's amazing like all of the stuff that you have been able to see and share with us and I just want to say thank you for giving us such a beautiful gift. I've seen a triple rainbow but never a quadruple. You are really great at this.... thanks for letting me tag along. Stay safe!
Thanks so much for taking me along. Beautiful part of the world.
Very few people have gotten to see four rainbows at the same time. I have. It helps to be wearing sunglasses I think. Sometimes I can see rainbow colors in the clouds when wearing them. Most people just shoot me a doubting smirk when I tell them I've seen 4 rainbows at once. I'm glad someone has documented it on video. Thank you!
If there was an award ceremony for the best RUclips channel you'd get my vote! Fantastic as always bud.
Stunningly gorgeous photography. Well done!!
Really appreciate that!!
Last time we tried to paddle the big lake with a canoe, it didn't go so well. We got turned back with 25+ winds in between islands. Now I use a sea kayak.
It can be a tough place for the canoe, that's for sure, especially if one is on a strict timeline. Made for the sea kayak
I was so relaxed after watching for 25 minutes I fell asleep! Thank you for taking me on your calming adventure!
Thanks for joining me Windermere! 🙂
WOW, one of the best pieces you’ve done. Gitchie Gumee is so inspirational and life giving to many of us. Cheers to Mr. Abbey as well. Keep it up John!
Great Dry Suite! It for sure can save your life if you flip. Because you can't roll a canoe, I'm sure you know that a Dry suite only gives you about another 30 to 40 minutes extra in that 48 degree F water. If you have a kayak, and you can roll, the risk of hypothermia is greatly reduced.
Epic - the best of Lake Superior, I want to go back there again tho I would go in a kayak it's nice to see the shoreline from a paddlers perspective
This man reminds me of my grandpa who used to take me hiking and camping all the time. You remind me of him in his prime. Thanks for the great content dude
Really appreciate that Max! 💚
I’m from Michigan and I have spent a lot of time in the upper peninsula along Lake Superior’s southern shore. I have never seen the northern shore and it is so beautiful! What an amazing experience, thank you for sharing!
The skies were amazing! Very nice trip, animals, geology, the water, the fish! But those skies...amazing!
This Texas Grandma has really enjoyed the serenity and the scenery of your journey. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼❤️🕊
Would be nice to see you do all of the Great Lakes
And White Fish Bay
And do a story on the Edmond Fitzgerald.
I have no words to describe such beauty. Finally reaching Old Woman’s bay tomorrow.
Thank you Jon for making us part of this magical place that is Lake Superior!
I picked up on your love for life and everything this planet has, and it's refreshing. I can relate. Keep doing well man. The 10 day Great lakes vid was my first now I'm here and will continue watching!
Much appreciated!
Late night, can’t sleep and your awesome video pops up. Thanks for sharing a trip I’ll never be able to take. I felt like I was there. I’m hooked! Your appreciation for life is beautiful. Beavers cry? What?
North shore of Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada
What a cool trip Jon. Little but of everything on this tour.......fishing, big water crossing, lake superior beauty, hiking, exploring and geology. Great work putting this all together. Lots of work for sure. Hope the rest of your paddling season has gone as well as this trip did. Cheers brother. (love the thumbnail btw).
Hey John: I have been watching your channel for awhile now. This has to be one of your best for sure. You keep getting better at the videography. Quitting your day job and doing this full time has obviously been the right decision for you. It comes out in your videos. Look forward to the next one!
My first lost-lakes video. Watched the entire thing and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for this. Will be catching more lost-lakes.
Took me six days to watch this video (middle of canning season for the garden). I am central Kentucky and now I want to paddle to the entrance of the Ohio; maybe a four day trip... THANK YOU. God Bless and stay safe.
Very much enjoyed your wilderness excursion. You are a solid steward to our wilderness, good job!
Very beautiful area ! Thanks for taking us along !
There's so much to say about this but I'll stay short. What a beautiful movie experience and trip. Lake Superior is more than I thought it was. I love adventures and this made me feel calm and relaxed during these hard times. Great Work!
Greatly appreciate that KLU! It's really a special lake
I've never seen full rainbows like those were. Beautiful.
Stupendous!
My favorite Lost Lakes video (thus far). The only thing that could have made it better, and you’ll agree, would be Erin in the bow.
I really like the way you set it up as a long video with chapters to reference for shorter viewing episodes.
*I got the Scotty rod holder and gunnel clamp mount along with the Duo-Lock snaps through your link. 👍🏻
this was absolutely wonderful in so many ways. quite possibly the most enjoyable solo wilderness documentary in general that I've seen this year. Cheers brother, sending love to you and yours from Colorado
Really appreciate that my friend! 👋
The first time I felt dread I said Wait I only wanted a selfie with you. The dread left and I've never felt it since. Pretty cool Indian village. There's nobody up there to touch your stuff
Extremely well done. Thank you, from Salt Lake City, UT.
I have never seen a grand canoe trip done on the biggest lake on Earth. Kudos!! Fabulous to watch!
Thanks for allowing us to follow you on this journey! I've been curious about islands in the Great Lakes for a long time, and since Tim O'Brien is one of my favorite authors I have a fascination with the forests in these areas that he's described many times in his novels. So it's cool to get to see some of the stuff.
I agree friend ✌️
Your video diary has got to be one of the clearest, brightest, most tightest focused i have ever seen. You radiate a quiet air of confidence in all that you do and your enthusiasm is evident. Wonderful natural soundtrack. I too have never seen you before but will definitely be back for more.
I appreciate that so much Frank!! Makes my day :)
I remember when I was a little boy teaching my teacher those birds are called Crain's. Thank you
That quadruple rainbow was God showing you that He was with you and your trip was going to be a safe one. He is amazing and gives you all kinds of signs.
Note to self- wash hands immediately after bear spray discharge. Beautiful trip, thanks
Thank you for taking me along.
Thank you for letting me join you on this journey as I recoup from leg surgery on my couch. Between surgery and Covid I've not been able to get out much since November 2020. Be free, happy, blessed and kind.
I feel for you Rebecca...the couch is a great place to be, except when you're stuck there for extended periods. Hang in there and glad you could escape here a bit. Thanks for joining me!
I’ve had a few adventures on this beautiful lake. But now at 60 it’s to hard for me. I do appreciate this wonderful video and the memories that sparked in my mine once again.
Much respect to Erin for suffering through the danger potential!! And John, thanks for taking us with you! So happy to be a subscriber....and LUCKY I might add!!
Such a relaxing pleasure to vicariously watch your video. Thanks for the trip. Regards from Arkansas, Doug Wheeler.
I just tuned into this video and now find myself sitting in the dark, more than 2 hours later, left in complete awe and gratitude. Wow, what a treat!
You kept me hooked, inspired and just loving this province I have called home for over 2 decades now. So much still to see.
Could add so many comments, I am sure most of them have already been listed, so for now, just a deeply felt "thank YOU" for sharing this amazing journey! 👏 and doing it so, so well.
I have embarked on my first winter camping this year, am off to Algonquin tomorrow for my 2nd stab at it, and your video has just made for the perfect "evening before" motivation.
Thank You. 🤗🙏🏕💗
I truly appreciate that!! Hope you're having a wonderful trip in Algonquin :)
This is my 2nd time watching this and wanted to say, until this video, I have NEVER (in my 71 yrs) witnessed a river flowing into a lake...pretty darn cool.
The scenery was amazing on this trip, its been a while since I've visited Lake Superior and this was a great video capturing its raw beauty. I want to echo the other comments, thanks for naming off the islands and bays, I actually had a google map open while watching the entire video so I could follow along!
Love your videos. I live in OHIO and watching your videos is so relaxing and for the time watching I get to forget the busyness of life and get to enjoy your trips. Can’t wait till things calm down it has been about 2 years since I’ve been North of the boarder. Love Canada!!!!
The wheel @ 41:10 is from a flat water barge, we had one exactly like this one in our front yard that my Mom would plant full of flowers every year. "The Wheel" as we called it came from a barge in the Detroit River. It also looks like the barge here is sunk in the mud. Nice adventure.
Amazingly comfortable looking hammock and looks like you were able to chill in some great relaxing scenic spots.
As a city dweller and nature novice, I have only been on the big lake a handful of times, so I am living vicariously via others. This was very well done and informstive. I did some sailing around Mantiou years ago. Kayacking/canoe is hardcore! Respect
Very much appreciated!

Jon, EXCELLENT adventure. That plant you were wondering about with all the insects on it looked like a Giant Rhubarb. Herb family but not actually related to the Rhubarb family. Just looks like them. Thanks for taking us along. Superior is def on my bucket list now.
Thank you so much Chuck! Whatever it was, STUNK like poop!
Thank you for the amazing video. A trip to remember. I enjoyed watching every minute of it. I will watch it again. Live life to the peak. Thanks again
Loved following you on this adventure. Nice one. 🏴
Fun fact : rainbows are always double. In most cases the second one is just hard to see or too far away from the first one to see.
I totally understand why you love Lake Superior. I saw a lot of videos about this lake already and it's always amazing. You are a lucky guy, Jon. 😍👍And this sweet sauna Hut was a real surprise. I didn't know that those exist there. I love sauna, I would have tried it out 😁😍
Truly appreciate your channel man! As a guy from Florida I love getting to see your adventures. Had a canoe trip in the u.p. as a kid and this brings back memories.
Very much appreciated!
BEAUTIFUL photography. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Thank you!
Trout still flopping in the pan its so fresh. Your life is blessed. Always cherish those times.
Fantastic! This will be one to rewatch on a long winter’s night.
Wow Jon. What a spectacular journey. As always your humor is so much appreciated. I don't know if you hear this enough, but your ability to capture stunning video of the places you go does the wilderness there so much justice. You really show the beauty of these places so well, the flora and fauna, the landscape. Great work on the video, looked like you had an amazing time, can't wait for what's next.
I was with you all the way, vicariously, that is. So much so, that when I fell asleep watching, the characters had changed to more familiar ones. I had eaten from some leftovers from a nearby neighbor who was being helpful. Hey, I guess in my version, I don't rough it as much. I woke up with my sister asking me if I knew where the bathrooms were. I remember asking my guy Omar where he found the canoe? He said, they leave them there for people to use. It was a great adventure. Thanks. 🤣 That quadruple rainbow though?!
LOL! That's awesome. Unbelievable eh!
Fantastic video I’m so envious. Worthwhile 2 hours 👌
Stumbled upon this site this afternoon. One of the most enjoyable 2+ hours of my life, certainly on RUclips anyways! Particularly when considering the state of this planet at present and its rulers. You were meant for this place and time my friend. Your presence, eye for photography and cadence are second to none! Well done.
Truly appreciate that! 💚
You’re verily verily blessed. May God bless you & Erin
The eagle/seagull battle was a real highlight for me in this video. What an awesome trip and great information from you along the way.
Thanks for being a great example of a back country adventurer and keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot John!
Amazing, I loved the way you kept telling us where you were. Naming the islands and the bay's as you go. I felt like I was following you on the map. Thank you for letting us see this amazing trip.
Just discovered you man...so positive and relaxing. Here I am sitting here typing my butt off...a cog in the wheel and this video was able to transport me somewhere I'd rather be. New subscriber for sure and hey, if you ever need someone to take a trip with you, let me know!
I truly appreciate that Eric---thank you my friend!
I swear you capture the craziest happenings in nature. The bird fight was epic! W trip!!
If you look very closely you can see the fourth rainbow on the left side as well! Man what a beautiful trip. The only thing I'd do different is cover less area, and fish more, but whatever is your thing, either way it's incredible!
You've become one of Ontario's greatest adventurers. I've been watching your videos for years, and this one scared me more than the others. Superior is a beast and the weather can change on a whim, not to mention that water is always deadly cold. Travelling alone like that is incredibly brave. Great video bahd!
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience you set make this! A great reminder of how beautiful nature really is...
I just loved that interaction between the scrappy seagull and the whimpy eagle 😂
Wow congratulations John, over half a million views….you deserve it, the cinematography gets better and better, watching you build your craft is exciting to watch.
Amazing as usual, your videos along with joe rob and jim baird has been my survival during super slow work hours this summer. Also inspired me to buy a canoe or kayak as soon as i can.
Waiting eagerly for your channel to absolutely pop off!
