    This is great! The Monport 130w CO2 laser with its built-in chiller has been a reliable workhorse in my shop. The chiller keeps the laser running cool and consistent, which is crucial for maintaining accuracy and preventing damage. I've been impressed by its power and precision, allowing me to tackle a wide range of projects with ease. The machine is sturdy and well-built, making it a solid investment.

    I have this exact laser and this video filled in so much missing information from the setup guide and owner’s manual. Thank you for putting this out. Once I’ve got the machine squared away, it’ll be on to library building.

    You can square up the gantry with the belt also if it is really close. Great video.

    I have this exact laser in my cart right now. I need to finish my remodel so I have somewhere to put it, but I don't think I've seen a more thorough setup how-to video related to CO2 lasers. I have to imagine a lot of what you're doing is what Thunder/Boss/Aeon are doing, but it doesn't look like $5k+ in labor. I think I'll wait for your review video to get your impressions after you've had some time with it. Will definitely use your coupon code if I do end up ordering from Monport. Thanks!

    So I have the 100w laser and I’m waiting on my chiller. Is it okay to turn on and square up everything as long as I’m not actually firing the laser?

    • @WoodNerds
      @WoodNerds  9 дней назад

      Congrats on the purchase! Should be fine to move the gantry around without the chiller. Its main function is to cool the water that gets pumped around the laser tube. Just don’t fire the laser at all and you should be good.

    i just received my 80W auto focus and want to put it in the garage yet I am in Houston where summer temps can range into the 90's. I ordered the chiller to use and a couple of fan to move air. Do you believe I need to dehumidify and cool the air?

    • @WoodNerds
      @WoodNerds  Месяц назад

      Hey! The owners manual recommends a certain humidity and environmental temperature to operate in. I honestly don’t have a lot of experience with the impact on the laser. It would be a safe bet to follow those guidelines in my opinion.

    How is your parameter library building going? I’m struggling a little bit with mine. Cutting has been the hardest part. I think i need to upgrade my air assist.

    • @WoodNerds
      @WoodNerds  3 месяца назад

      Cutting is a challenge for me as well. I just got in a 4” lens but need to find the extension tube to support it before I test further. I’m barely able to get through 1/2” mdf at 80% 5mm/s with the 2” the machine comes with. From what I understand, upgraded air assist will help get me across the finish line but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of people cutting thick material like that. At least not with clear advice.

    • @7005r
      @7005r 3 месяца назад +1

      @@WoodNerds Exact same issue I’ve been having. Even 1/8 MDF with a maple veneer has been a chore. A 130 should slice that like butter. I did try the 20mm tube extension which seemed to help a little but not worth the disassembly and reassembly. A little bit of a learning curve for me. I’m coming from a fiber laser. Let me know how the 4” works out for you. I think I am going to have to go the same route because I’ve got serious plans for cutting with this machine and bed size.

    • @WoodNerds
      @WoodNerds  3 месяца назад

      @7005r I’ll let you know! Same here. Cutting was the main reason for me wanting this laser.

      @@WoodNerds I’ve been looking at American Photonics. They sell a 3 pack kit with tubes and lenses for about $170. I think this plus the upgraded air assist would do the trick. I will let you know how it goes for me if I get mine done before you do.

    If you would do it all over again, would you get another monport?

    • @WoodNerds
      @WoodNerds  2 месяца назад

      So far, I like it. It seems almost all of the laser machines in this price and power range are coming from China with similar quality and features. In fact, most of them use the exact same parts. The experience I’ve had with Monport and the machine I have has been positive. I think most of the negative reviews/feedback I see around laser machines in general, has to do with users not fully understanding their machines. These are industrial grade machines and require setup and tuning like any other industrial grade machine. After that, seems to be no problems from what I’ve seen.
