Mitch: "How do you get past the fear?"
Devin: "Fail repeatedly."
Great answer.
I hope he never quits making music. It doesn't matter in what form or style, i'll buy anything. But just never stop please!
same thing
100% agreed.
Devin Townsend is such a breath of fresh air. Love how he's always pushing forward. Such a bright and talented man.
Devin is the best overall artist (vocals, guitar, lyric's, etc etc) of our generation. Period.
We now want the uncensored one !
Devin is one of the most refreshing artists around precisely because he writes whatever he feels at that moment. I never know what to expect from a new album, but I can always count on it being amazing. I can't wait for Z2, but I'd also love to see more albums like CoC in the future.
Can't be a more charasmatic likeable guy in the music business then Devy.
And right after this... he signed my friend's accordion and my CD's and Guitar... DEVY DOES IT ALL!
Devin is an awesome dude
I love this guy so much!
Best dude ever, and the greatest inspiration in general.
My holy trinity of music would have to be Devin, Mike Patton and Bjork. Ive realized they are all hilarious in interviews. They all chose their artistic visions over pure financial gain within the confines of what makes enough money for them to live off of their art full time without much compromise if any. Also in terms of personality, all three share this mix of naive relatable sweetness and intellectual superiority or well earned wisdom, especially Dev who would probably be a great talking head for public consumption. He’s so self-reflective and self aware. I’m sure it’s impossible to keep it up daily in his personal life but he’s always willing to go back and to express even the things that he finds shameful or projects he failed on (no matter what we might think). He’s always a breath of fresh air and he’s kinda like the parent we all wish we had who has wisdom he acquired through making a million fuck ups himself and only seems to be willing to pass on knowledge he can swear by from his own personal experience as opposed to wives tales and folk wisdom that most are preach but never have seen themselves. Devin Townsend is almost like a walking talking unified voice of a Jungian collective unconscious of the modern west. If that’s sounds too “mystic” I just mean he’s a great “everyman” and always relatable as he passes through different milestones in life and we can totally understand his reflective discussions as we pass through the same markers in life
Great interview! Best Dev has done in a while.
Devin did amazing vocals on Steve Vai's Sex & Religion
Holy fuck, can this guy be any more likable? Devon has seriously taken the "celebrity I'd most like to meet" spot in my life! He just seems to be so easy to hang out with, and to be able to just jam with the guy... forget the fact that I couldn't keep up with him or play along with his tunings, it would be a dream come true!
i wish i could adopt Devin :)
YES. I love this guy :)
Very smart dude.
Best Sweewater minute ever 😜
Well done. Both teams
This was awesome.
I don't believe in god, but i believe in Devin !

Devin is more crazy than me
Intro song name?
so much censoring xD
The censoring is too much
What was he saying? Lol the mystery is killing me!
Haha, nice
For the love of God. Bring back Strapping Young Lad.
he's not into it anymore. better for him to not do it than fake it or phone it in.
He wants to play and sing about the things that are true to himself, which SYL no longer is. They will never come back; just enjoy the legacy that they left.
Nah - I'd rather he keep pushing forward with new and interesting things.
"I don't understand fear as an emotion, nor did I understand anger, and so I had them confused."
"I couldn't focus ... due to … my inability to articulate my emotions."
"Strapping Young Lad ultimately became a vehicle for me to explore anger."
"I've gotten to a point now where I understand it, and I'm not angry anymore."
I guess you weren't listening. Same with every other person who says exactly what you just did. If he "brought back SYL", he'd be bullshitting you and himself. He's too genuine to do that to you. So if you're honestly looking for forced anger and music, go elsewhere. Devin doesn't bother himself with such nonsense and you should know that.
I don't want him to reform the band and make new music, but what I would love to see is some sort of reunion show, that is recorded, and released as a live DVD of some sort. That would be cool.
Google "vjetropev devin townsend" and you will find the latest reviews of Dark Matters and Sky Blue, including everything else from Dev's vast and brilliant discography, ranked in order of quality. Hopefully it'll be useful for someone.
