Compared to the High Crime of those time, be it the Mafia, insanely high gang violence, etc we're living in relative peace. NYC is actually one of the safest big cities in America. If you don't believe, look at the data compared to now and back then and nation crime per capita. And I'm not saying it's perfect, but a bunch of hipsters who came here in 2010s never got to see NYC at its worst and then claiming we're living in the worst times. Lmfao. Not even close.
Well, hang on a sec, let’s be fair and honest. I too was born and raised here in Brooklyn. And I must say that under (R) mayor guilliani and Bloomberg and (R) governor Pataki, the city was cleaned up, safe and well managed. Totally different from what we have today. They instituted stop and frisk, broken windows policing policies… which was VERY EFFECTIVE at fighting crime. So once they repealed these policing strategies and went soft on crime and racial profiling… all hell broke lose, the criminals received the call and didn’t disappoint. But I’d say for about 20 yrs late 90’s to the late 2010’s nyc was a pleasure to live in… and crime was well managed.

I hear you, but you can't just keep imprisoning people away. That's nothing but an endless cycle of creating better criminals, which is all they do in prison, become better criminals with even more associates than they entered with. You have to attack the actual problem, which is POVERTY, poor (and failing) education system and income inequality. This Drill music is also a demonic entity that is playing a role in destroying our youth.
If you ask me, record label execs who sign rappers bragging about killing their "opps" should be right in prison alongside these thugs. They know better and put millions into poor kids hands. What did they think was going to happen?
Let me clarify, I agree with you, but we have to start actually rehabilitating criminals, not just burying them as if there is no release date. Recidivist crime is out of control because of misguided Bail Reform (which has just recently and finally been amended) and Progressive Dems (aka "Latte Liberals) in Albany, who need to stop fantasizing about faux social justice and start cracking down on bad actors.
