After studying classical Indian music for a couple of years I can go back and listen to this song that came out when I was a little kid and see how they use the construction of a raga for the melody of the guitars and the normal way of ending a song in India. phrase times three to the beat string which is a Chikara. Low string here a low E but on a sitar it’s a high string much like a banjo. Just saying they were already doing world music in 1965 courtesy of George studying
Very good point. On the previous album Rubber soul, George was showing his Sitar skills on Norwegian wood. Playing the Sitar would undoubtedly have influenced George in his guitar playing also. As this was a duet, it was never made clear Paul's influence in the composition either. It's often thought that the whole Beatles and India thing was around 1968. how exactly does the melody have raga characteristics? It seems to lack the dissonance imo for it to be raga, i was just a bit confused about that
Musicologists have identified classical European influences in the melody, not Indian.
