There's something very relaxing about watching home renovations and you and Elli are doing such a phenomenal job! I thought it was so cute when Elli was practicing the pronunciation of "mortar". Maybe she could teach us a German word or expression of the day? Peace and love to you both.
I'm so hooked on your home renovation journey. I'm cheering you guys on with each daunting task! Elli, I hope you will share that pistachio cream pie recipe someday!! That looked incredible!
Your spraying the bricks with that water sprayer reminded me of how the masons in South America used to soak the bricks in buckets of water for a few minutes before laying them on the mortar. At the very least they would soak the bricks until they stopped bubbling or sizzling, just to be sure that they were saturated with water for better adhesion.
This is as much fun watching as when you worked on your van. You look so up for your new adventures and happy with Elli. We enjoy watchi8ng you each week! (And between you and me, you probably left the country at a good time.)
Your home renovations reminded me of the 17th century farmhouse my four daughters and I carefully restored using ship wreck wood and huge beams when I was on vacation during my navy days. It was a hard slog; my girls lived in a vintage Airstream to avoid the dust and chaos. One of them, Charlie, is a Master Carpenter, who I trusted to manage the project while I was at sea. Much of your hard work will doubtless pay off, and yeah I know how gruelling the job is. You and dear Ellie have achieved much, and I'm mighty proud of you. Know that what you are learning will remain with you; adding your experience to do more, maybe one day. Your cold weather will kick off in November, by which time I hope you'll be settled and cosied up by a log fire. Much love to your ducks, too ~Wendi 🌻🌺🌺🌺🌻
You normally wont find asbestos in "walls", they will be render and plaster over brick (or drywall and plaster over frame 'stud wall'). Asbestos was used for "sheeting", "boarding", things like roof eves/facia, guttering, window enclosures/dormers. Also on pipe and old plumbing lagging. I have some in my "eves". :(
Ya'll crack me up. "We are going to do this right the second time." So funny. Sounds like my projects. But that is how you learn, and you gals are learning so much and working so hard. Very proud of you. Hint: old doors make a good work bench on 2 saw horses. You throw it away when your done with all the projects. But it makes a nice big work table in the meantime.
