    Type "All ducks go to bed" in the search box of RUclips and see how ducks can learn to troop into the duck house when you call them. Highly entertaining as well as practical

    Your spraying the bricks with that water sprayer reminded me of how the masons in South America used to soak the bricks in buckets of water for a few minutes before laying them on the mortar. At the very least they would soak the bricks until they stopped bubbling or sizzling, just to be sure that they were saturated with water for better adhesion.

    Your home renovations reminded me of the 17th century farmhouse my four daughters and I carefully restored using ship wreck wood and huge beams when I was on vacation during my navy days. It was a hard slog; my girls lived in a vintage Airstream to avoid the dust and chaos. One of them, Charlie, is a Master Carpenter, who I trusted to manage the project while I was at sea. Much of your hard work will doubtless pay off, and yeah I know how gruelling the job is. You and dear Ellie have achieved much, and I'm mighty proud of you. Know that what you are learning will remain with you; adding your experience to do more, maybe one day. Your cold weather will kick off in November, by which time I hope you'll be settled and cosied up by a log fire. Much love to your ducks, too ~Wendi 🌻🌺🌺🌺🌻

    You normally wont find asbestos in "walls", they will be render and plaster over brick (or drywall and plaster over frame 'stud wall'). Asbestos was used for "sheeting", "boarding", things like roof eves/facia, guttering, window enclosures/dormers. Also on pipe and old plumbing lagging. I have some in my "eves". :(

So with your vision and your skill with ink and water colors, it would be cool to see some simple painting mock-ups of what you’re thinking about in the various rooms. Nothing to exact scale or time consuming, just a peek at what to look forward to. Anyway, it’s fun watching you guys digging in and making your dreams come true. That was a so-called Sturz (lintel). They're also used in non-load bearing walls because you can't just pile up bricks on top of a thin wooden doorframe. And yes, that thing probably was thicker than it needed to be, but back in the day people often built structures using a "better safe than sorry" approach.

  • @stacymcmahon453
    @stacymcmahon453 4 месяца назад

    It's wild to think of using brick for interior walls, and to knock out and repair/reconfigure them in small sections like you are doing. Even wilder that it doesn't seem like actually that much more work than a wood frame wall (as long as you have that rotary hammer)

    • @Raider_MXD

    You’re almost right about the reason for spraying the bricks with water. The bricks are very porous, so they’ll absorb moisture out of the plaster/mortar/render you’re applying. When that happens the plaster/mortar/render will set too quickly, making it difficult to spread it out flat and even. You’re spraying down the bricks so that they absorb less of the moisture from the plaster/mortar/render, making it easier to work with.

    Ahh! "Kango hammer" above ones head. I did that as an electricians mate when I was 16. I still recall the colour of the bath water after work and wondering how in hell it got in my underwear! Along with my teeth!

      Like when you are stripping back those wires and pipes. Some poor, usually younger, poorly paid person had to painstakingly chisel that "track" out for the cable. That applies to nearly all plug sockets, light switches, wall lights and everything else! There is a reason why houses over in Europe tend to be more expensive.

    You girls are so ambitious! I'm sure it will all pay off, though. The food you made looks really yummy. Maybe when you get your home done, you can teach us some of your delicious recipes.
    I don't know much about ducks. But I'm wondering why they have to be put in their house at night. It looks like they don't want to go in there. Maybe their claustrophobic.😄

      Yes i'd love to include more cooking! Lately we've mostely been enjoying pretty quick and easy recipes, but i made a gnocchi last night that was to-die for! We put the ducks inside to protect them from any possible predators, though we luckily don't have many here. Thanks for the comment!

    As always, great work !! Your videos are always such a treat. But here I am giving unsollicited advice and I hate myself for it but: maybe you should invest in security shoes. I learnt that the hard way 😭
