+DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood Sam is very very known to be aggressive during interviews. I think that this interviewer did a great job of getting Sam to dish out some knowledge for you heathens.
+DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood Speaking as an unbiased third party, it doesn't sound like Virgil hated the interview, just the closed questions and the constant "uh-huh". You're doing good work here, with a few tweaks it could be better.
great job by the interviewer making Samuel Jackson comfortable. Samuel started out annoyed by another interview and the interviewer threw at him interesting question that he was happy to answer.
Samuel is a very frank, tell-it-like-it-is with no BS kinda guy. And in the film industry he has worked well and bonded with a fair share but also butted heads and scared off quite a few as well. He just has this huge presence that may come off as antagonistic for some, but either way the effect that he has as an actor is one where he commands immediate respect, naturally. In the beginning of the interview Samuel was skeptical about how it was all going to turn out and he certainly had this standoffish aura, but as the interview progressed he opened up more and more and in the end he was pleasantly surprised remarking "Well it did feel like a conversation" which was the intention of this interview and that in my book is fuckin "A+" pass with flying colors. The interviewer asked a range of questions and knew how to steer the discussion, he listened and didn't talk over the interviewee and gave enough space for expression. This was both insightful and entertaining, well done.
"Well, that did feel like a conversation--" ... Hahah, that's how I felt. At first he seemed a bit reluctant or apprehensive; but the interviewer got him to open up and speak freely. Very well orchestrated.
Great interview! At first he came off as annoyed and angry and i was almost gonna stop watching. but then it turned to be great.. he is frank, down to earth and a no nonsense guy..awesome.
It would be immodest to suggest how I get these interviews, but the whole process of developing this series was based on access I already had and turning it from a web/print effort to a video one. And I am one of the luckiest bastards in the world. Also one of the hardest working... if this kind of pursuit can be called "work."
"That did feel like a conversation"...that is the way you interview, not dumb questions...having a conversation itself is an interview process. This is why this was so good.
I love this interview. One of the best I've ever seen with an actor. I think as much as Jackson is loved and respected that he's still under-rated. He's wonderful.
I liked the end where he seemed surprised with himself that some people do actually want to have a conversation ha ha. This and the Christian Bale interview have been two of the best. So much that it seemed like Bale had been unknowingly waiting for a decent chunk of time with a smart interviewer to get in to some stuff.
This interview is by far one of the best I've seen. Jackson's pure honesty and open dialogue makes up for the ridiculous questions the interviewer asks. What an incredible guy.
This was a great interview! Didn't think I'd watch the whole 35 minutes, but it was so good I I kept coming back to it. Congrats to the interviewer for being knowledgeable enough and comfortable enough to get such great stuff from Samuel L - we learned a lot about him, Quentin and the film industry. Despite him looking at the start like he wasn't enthused about doing it, by the end it looks like knew it was good, too.
at 20:00 Sam speaks so much fucking truth about how those pretentious critics praised 12 years for being serious and gritty and dark and looked down upon django because it adressed the issue in an upbeat way.
I hadn't planned to watch the whole 35min but I did. Very engaging. I've never seen Samuel L Jackson this relaxed and candid in an interview. Loved it.
Love this channel! Great interview, uncut, open and frank conversations about stuff that people really should be interested if they're interested in film. Love this.
I love the way Sam and Quentin talk about movies and especially "going to the movies". It should be an event, a spectacle. It's more like a roller coaster ride than a sunday drive. Television is a sunday drive. A movie is a roller coaster.
I've been Directing for a year now and I'm beginning to get real work offers now, but I am keeping my head above water by the fringe. 10 minutes into this interview is something I am recognising. This is also so close to the Empire interview. There are so many great interviews for this film and this is one of them. Well done good Sir.
had a professor in college that was so much like Sam Jackson, same kind of mannerisms and similar way of talking. Intimidating, but I learned a lot when I finally got the guts to talk to him one on one.
I love how Sam is a normal guy. People tend to kind of go crazy when they are famous, but he is somebody you could see living down your street or coming over to watch football or something.
Stellar interview,He looked so puzzled like he was going to be irritated by the format you suggested in the intro to how you where going to push with the interview then he just rolled with you and bounced some real talk,Superb man.
Samuel L Jackson is not afraid to tell how hollywood works even from a high status actors prospective. He is very open about his career. Where most actors will be political and say "Hey I love the fans, I love to travel blah blah blah" Samuel L Jackson says "Well its in the contract" lol.
Charlie Chase Lol no. He is coolhas a strong character nd personalty and he is preety decent as actor, butone of the best??? not even close..but I like him a lot
This brotha keeps it so real and you can't help but laugh because he says it so smooth. He made some really great points that a upcoming actor can learn from.
Most hated, oh lord, I have never cried during a movie as much as I cried over his character and the empathy and depth he portrayed him with. I remember just hiccup bawling in the theatre.
Great interview!! After the initial awkwardness both parties settled down to an honest discussion about film. However I will say that watching many actors being interviewed Mr Jackson is one of the most "down to earth and tell's it like it is" artist's working in the industry today...very, very refreshing!! I think he got to the end and genuinely enjoyed the interview....
Great Interview, love Samuel L. Jackson interviews, always honest and entertaining. I think the film he's talking about at 22:00 is 'Killing them Softly' 2012, I liked it but I get his point:)
One of the best interviews, ever - about movies, fame and who Mr. Jackson is. Trumps a dozen episodes of Actor's Studio and other actors. Care more about meeting Mr. Jackson after this interview than after seeing any of his screen personas. Th real Mr. Jackson kicks ass. Keep it real!
The question he was looking for at 30:00 was "Do you think people get tired of feeling like they need to ask you questions or interact in a way that will allow you to be Samuel L. Jackson the character and not you, as though you have yourself become a character? That would have been an amazing close to this interview. He just couldn't find the words to ask.
+John Burton He doesn't really say anything important pertaining to directors, more for writers. Even then it's just him generally saying "make good shit that entertains." I mean it might help for filmmakers who are trying to imitate hollywood type shit like they were taught in film school, but otherwise nothing really too important or groundbreaking here tbh.
Shane Benjamson Wow, now that I've heard you state the opposite opinion to mine, I've totally changed my perspective. Total 180. Thank you so much for this revelation.
John Burton But I wasn't stating an opinion. I was stating relevant observations I made, that you seem to have missed when you made your original statement. There ha fuk u I used big words I win the argument.
Shane Benjamson I've never heard anyone use the phrase "big words" who wasn't an idiot. And I've never met an idiot who wasn't fun to goad. So just for fun, go ahead and defend your assertions. Give your evidence that (1) Sam Jackson can't give much advice to directors, (2) that his advice is one-note or shallow, and that (3) he doesn't know how to make groundbreaking work. And before you respond, be aware that Every Frame a Painting, which is all about the style and work of groundbreaking directors, has already used some of his statements made in this video.
Amazing interview. Seldom have I heard any person explain the secrets of their craft so concisely. Acting is quite hard work and Mr. Jackson shows us a little bit of the way his talent is backed by hard work and sincere competence. I'd like to see more folks applying themselves to their lives with this spirit; What a better world we could have.
He works hard as an actor - he takes his job seriously and it shows in the quality of his portrayal of his characters. I wish him much satisfaction in his work in future.
For a man that has done 127 movies, it is sad that he was surprised by the honesty of a true interview. He was very defensive during the beginning of the interview, due to pure experience of the overall intention of typical press. Great conversion, great interview. Thank you for the insight. This was a fun watch.
Indeed. Sam seems extremely humble and just an overall good guy. He says how it is and has an excellent work ethic. I went on a "recommended Django video" chain on YT for the last couple hours and I'm glad I watched this one. "WHATCHU DOIN' IN A GROCERY STORE?!"
Wow! What an interview! Wish there was more interviewers like you bud! Keep it up! You can tell He was not expectign a very good interview but you surprised him and you can tell when watching that you grew on him!
Sam Jack is so down-to-earth. He doesn't need any "recognition" for his work in the form of awards, the reward is the work itself, and he gets work like it's nobody's business.
I must say... Samual Jackson is real as can be in this interview. If I was an aspiring actor, I would have taken notes, He gives a wealth of understanding as to the skill of being a great actor
I like this interview, because I learned a lot about actors as people. Everything that Samuel L. Jackson is serious. He's a great actor, and he's real.
He went from skeptical "OK, however that works" to "Ah, that did fell like a conversation". Great interview.
yup lol. so honest and humble
ma nemoj hahaha for real. That's what you get with a good interview.
The last 15 minutes were the most honest and funniest critique of the film industry I've ever heard.
Craig Hicks One of my very favorite half hours out of more than 1250. A truly fascinating mind.
+Virgil White Sorry you hated the interview.
+DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood Sam is very very known to be aggressive during interviews. I think that this interviewer did a great job of getting Sam to dish out some knowledge for you heathens.
+DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood
Speaking as an unbiased third party, it doesn't sound like Virgil hated the interview, just the closed questions and the constant "uh-huh".
You're doing good work here, with a few tweaks it could be better.
Virgil White tbh man, I appreciate your opinion, but I have to disagree with you. One of the best interviews D/P has done
Great interview once again. I loved Sam's line:
"You're not supposed to know that"
"...I've done 127 films."
Holy shit I've never realized he could be so candid.
Everyone should do this.
This is probably my favourite interview on this channel. I love how you can see how Samuel L. Jackson's mood really changed throughout the interview.
great job by the interviewer making Samuel Jackson comfortable. Samuel started out annoyed by another interview and the interviewer threw at him interesting question that he was happy to answer.
Every frame a painting brought me here :3
+Nikhat Lubna Me too.
+Nikhat Lubna yeah

Suspiciously accurate description.. you're doing it for deaf ppl?
"Well, that did feel like a conversation--" ... Hahah, that's how I felt. At first he seemed a bit reluctant or apprehensive; but the interviewer got him to open up and speak freely. Very well orchestrated.

Definitely the most honest no-bullshit interview with an actor I've ever seen.
This interview is a masterpiece. Watch Samuel’s body language evolve throughout the interaction.
"I've seen it done right, wrong and otherwise... so you decide" love his honesty.
i like how @ the beginning you can tell he was like "yeah, whatever" and then at the end he really enjoys the conversation. super cool guy!
This interviewer.......amazing
This is one of the best interviews I have ever seen. Its a conversational interview with Sam Jackson. I love that Sammy's Sharp.
Mr DP/30, this is a hysterical and insightful interview. I was just going to watch a couple minutes but I watched the whole thing. Keep it up man.
I liked the end where he seemed surprised with himself that some people do actually want to have a conversation ha ha. This and the Christian Bale interview have been two of the best. So much that it seemed like Bale had been unknowingly waiting for a decent chunk of time with a smart interviewer to get in to some stuff.
I really like this interview style. Going to check out more of your uploads.
This interview is by far one of the best I've seen. Jackson's pure honesty and open dialogue makes up for the ridiculous questions the interviewer asks. What an incredible guy.
I love the interviews that this channel puts forward. Honest, pure, unscripted interviews! Thank you, these are the best kind of interviews.
Fantastic interview. The interviewer was amazingly good!!!😀👍👍
You don't get more authentic than Samuel Jackson. This is WHY he has stayed around as long as he has
I hadn't planned to watch the whole 35min but I did. Very engaging. I've never seen Samuel L Jackson this relaxed and candid in an interview. Loved it.

I love this man. The last thing he said about actors watching themselves and looking up reviews is so true.
Thanks... yes, I am the DP doing all these interviews.
Love how you got him to do so much talking with such few questions
Great interview. Thanks Sam. Loved this as much as Inside the Actor's Studio.
the best actor in Hollywood. His work ethic is unmatched. He's so versatile.
Ya at the end, "That did feel like a conversation!" haha. Great interview I love the casual style of it as well as the length.
I've been Directing for a year now and I'm beginning to get real work offers now, but I am keeping my head above water by the fringe. 10 minutes into this interview is something I am recognising. had a professor in college that was so much like Sam Jackson, same kind of mannerisms and similar way of talking. Intimidating, but I learned a lot when I finally got the guts to talk to him one on one.
Great interview. Samuel L always comes off as as genuine guy in all his interviews. Hes not there to impress, he just tells it like it is. Good stuff.
Excellent interview, one of the best from this channel I've seen. Keep it up :D
I haven't watched all videos on this channel, but this is my favorite so far. Great interview.
Django Unchained is one of my fave films and Mr Jackson was amazing in it.
I love how Sam is a normal guy. People tend to kind of go crazy when they are famous, but he is somebody you could see living down your street or coming over to watch football or something.
this is one of the coolest interviews I've ever seen
One of the best interviews with any actors I`ve ever seen. Sam Jackson is such an honest guy.
2 Masters on both sides of the camera. Amazing insight of one to the greatest actors of all time m.
Thanks for this! ✨
One of the best interviews I've seen.

the way this started i though it was gonna suck, but turned out to be one of the best interviews with SLJ! Bravo guys!
one of the best actors of all time
Charlie Chase Lol no. He is coolhas a strong character nd personalty and he is preety decent as actor, butone of the best??? not even close..but I like him a lot
Joe Kerr Its a opinion get over it
Man its amazing how optimistic Samuel Jackson is.
I love his no bullshit approach to the work. He is an incredible artist. He gave some tips on storytelling that many writers cannot articulate.
Man I could listen to him all day. Very down to earth and funny.
Wow, I think this is the best interview out of the series!
For the first minute or so - then it turns into a conversation between two mates. Brilliant interview - really enjoyed watching it.
Nice interview! It started out a bit slow but it picked up in the end.
"Okay... however that works..." - Worked out beautifully, actually...
Django is my fave movie of all time. Great acting and everything else. Hope they win Oscars.
Brilliant as always. Funny how he starts off a little pissed and then just relaxes-and he is really great to listen to-great!
This interview started and I was like, man, Sam is grumpy this is gonna be long. But you warmed it up really well. Great Job.
I like how he started it professional, then kept it real

GREAT interview. You should have a special DP/30 for yourself where you explain the ways you approach these interviews. Well done sir.
I really like these interviews. The actors really get to speak, which is not so common these days. Thanks!
The question he was looking for at 30:00 was "Do you think people get tired of feeling like they need to ask you questions or interact in a way that will allow you to be Samuel L. Amazing interview this was very interesting and informative Sam is such a great actor. Love hearing him talk about acting and film making.
Directors who don't tap into this man's wealth of wisdom are FOOLS. If you're given the chance to work with this man, LISTEN TO HIM.
+John Burton He doesn't really say anything important pertaining to directors, more for writers. Even then it's just him generally saying "make good shit that entertains." I've seen a lot of interviews. This one was the best with Sam I've ever seen. Great job!
I love this interview. I've watched it about 20 times over the past few months. Congrats Dave!
Man his performance was chilling. So so good!
such a great interview. very insightful questions. i like this format.

It's so awesome seeing him slowly unravel.
Wow, what a great honest interview! Great work to whoever interviewed here.. He looked reluctant to begin with, but you won him over!
Reason number 432 why I love Samuel L. Jackson! Real to the realest.
LOVE YOUR INTERVIEWS! is a tarantino or DiCaprio one we can expect soon?? :)
"hong kong bullet-ballet"...I gotta remember that!

Luv listening to him speak. I have no idea what he’s going to say. Thank you 👍🏽👏🏽🤗
"Life very seldom imitates art. Art imitates life." BOSSSS
Such a good interview. Sam is amazing.
I like this interview, because I learned a lot about actors as people. Everything that Samuel L. Jackson is serious. He's a great actor, and he's real.
What a terrific interview. Thanks so much.
Great interview. As an inspiring actor/screenwriter, I really enjoyed this because it was informal.
His part in the movie is awesome and well played. Shows that he is a great actor.
He says it as he sees it. That's my man.
Dude, this is great! You do fantastic interviews!
I like the core message. It's about the work.
