Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
Von Tempsky was NZs Custer, from a long lineage of Prussian professional soldiers. A man of his time. Met his nemesis at Te Ngutu o te Manu, a raid of fatal consequence.
5:20 Hickock stealth kills a squirrel off camera!
Lmao
lol
Wtf was he doing anyway
+Riley Flakemore thx
mwall444 na his wife tried getting in the shot lol
glad to see you guys are enjoying these knives and mentioned they are from new Zealand.. Svord is a good company and make a great knives..i have a small peasant knife made by them..
Back in the day and even today a knife is never unloaded.
Doesn't sound like an infomercial at all. If you love something, you talk about it on video. I grew up competing in Kendo all of my childhood life in Asia and also studied the Sayok System in the PI and studied under Grand Master Dr. Remy Presas and competed for many years in Arnis Kali. I now work as a Defense Dept. Contractor and teach various Knife Fighting techniques so I love it when people talk about their favorite knives and love the history of various edge weapons. Thanks for sharing Hickok. As usual, I support your videos and you keep it interesting and educational for us.
That's not a knife. Now, this is a KNIFE!🔪 Nice knives! 👍
this guy is gonna totally survive a zombie apocalypse xD
Excited Cat lol i was thinking that 😂 hes gonna one shot all zombies till round 15
Great camaraderie between you two. Really enjoyed it.
It's 5 below zero this morning & I see John in a t-shirt. You practically have to be from Kentucky to decide to live in Minnesota
I'm an Aussie and I pronounce it "svord", bugger how the New Zealanders say it.
I love my Von Tempsky, though I had to mod it a little, first up you should add a lanyard to the handle, as you don't want this big brute to fly out of your hand during heavy chopping.
Second, add some camo form to the handle to dampen the handle vibration.
I am also not really happy with the sheath, I am going to replace it eventually but will suffer the factory one for the moment.
I also have found Ballistol the best rust preventive for the blades, smells like cat piss when applied but is really good at stopping the L-6 or 15n20 from rusting.
John is wearing a Metallica Ride The Lightning shirt. \m/
but does the pommel unscrew to end them rightly?
Glen Pope aye
Astiagogo it's a joke:)
Its the only proper way to finish a foe :P
Old meme.
Skallagrim
they look great!
Von Tempsky was respected by his enemies, even the Maori Chief whose warriors killed him.
Although the corpses of some other soldiers were eaten, Tempsky was held in high esteem by the Maori, and Kimble Bent said that Titokowaru ordered that Tempsky's body be placed onto a funeral pyre in the centre of the marae.[8] In 1965, Mr Tonga Awikau, aged 101, described how as a child he had seen this cremation of 20 British dead, including Major von Tempksy [1].
The local Maori returned his sword sheath to his widow and it is held these days by the Thomsons in Hawkes Bay.[citation needed]
What no quick game of Mumblety-peg? Fun stuff thank you.
I like these knife reviews every once in a while :)
I thought maybe you was going to put on knife juggling show there for a minute.
Thanks again, really enjoyed the video, looking forward until the next time.
Love Hickok45 and big Bowies!
i moded handle on my svord von tempsky bowie ,cutting grooves on it and make it more friendly to use.
it weights above 900 grams, and hss a stright handle need you fore arm strong enough to control .
all in all ,i like the bowie
Great vid Hickok. If you have any footage of you shooting in a Cowboy Action Shoot, you should upload it.
I had one of those a few years ago thing was indestructible totally regret selling it.
Good kiwi made knife!
That vine was poison ivy. No kidding.
Peter H I thought it was too, haha. Some people aren't allergic to it.
Virginia creeper
There is a face in the tree!
Nice Flip
Great video! Thanks for the review.
in Finland the closest thing to those would be a Leuku
I tried that fancy knife flip and catch a few years ago and I missed the grab and got it in my foot, I done it 100s of times before but that one time I just missed the grab... nasty little hole in my foot and it hurt. hahaha.... was a western bowie made by coleman... fairly heavy and well made too.
METALLICAAAAAA! Nice tshirt bro hahah \m/
Looks like Ruger is making knives now.
Make a video on the S&w M&p m2.0 !!
The actual term,Bowie knife, is pronounced (BOOwie). Bowie, pronounced (BOW-ee), is a musical artist from across the pond. Remember the Alamo!
Jason Brown Glad someone said something!
5 or 6" hahahaaa!!! my sides hurt. . . Good one.
great video
I like big knives and I cannot lie! All you other brothers can't deny!
The Kiwis are probably too polite to correct you but Mauri is pronounced like mowree - (mow as in cow) - although it's probably impossible for a 'Merican to truly imitate the Kiwi accent so probably an exercise in futility anyway....
Cool knives. Aussies are't the only ANZACS who love big NOIVES!!!
Nice MetallicA shirt
NOW WAY i have that mettalica shirt
I mean if I had that kind of land I’d walk the land with a Colt 45 with a nice western rig , and maybe a Bowie knife , but unless I had to I wouldn’t be hacking with it , I would always have a weapon on me even taking out the garbage,
greetings from indonesia hickok (:
Is timber rattler a good bowie knife?
Sir other than vids what do you do for a living
Do a Mare Leg please
Hey Hickok45, you should check JoergSprave channel, he is a crazy german guy, making wood weapon. He just made a short "tribute" for you!
Stay awesome!
And here it is compared to a Glock 19
Setting "Bad ExampLes" and such . . .You're such bad men . .heheh(13:00)
like the great dun de said that aint a knife
You are right! That is a SVORD!!!!
"BOO-ee"
Just under $200, not bad
this year can you carve a pumpkin with a mp40 ?
Not a Boo wee knife, huh? Ah well.
JoergSprave made a tribute video to you.
...and it was very good!
Homespunmusic Yea, he's probably one of the nicest guys on youtube tbh.
Ride The Lightning. Second best Metallica album everrrrr
Hello from New Zealand love my Svords!
When does a knife stop being a knife, and start being a short sword?!😅👍
I found it online. Gettin one!
Matt H Short sword is the length of your forearm and up: long sword two forearms' length: great sword three. Under forearm length is a knife, with most forearms being 18 inches.
a sword is a weapon first, a knife is a tool first then a weapon mostly regardless of length (usually)
a sword would make a bad tool
polonose 00 a tool for killing someone...
Believe it or not, Gustavus von Tempsky was my ancestor. I just ordered one of these, I'm hoping to feel closer to the great man...
Neat
I am so envious of your relationship with your dad and how he's throwing a razor sharp knife around while you're delivering the commentary you guys rule
That's a knife- Crocodile Dundee
I got a big 17" bowie from Pakistan for 50$ and although there are very insignificant problems with the finish the fit is perfect and I use it regularly even when smithing to chop wood for the forge
But I definitely would prefer one of these
something about a dude holding a bowie knife wearing a metallica shirt makes me not want to mess with him.
Bubbs then you also find out hes like 6ft8 also
Greetings from Poland Hickok. :)
And greetings from Polish in Canada.
mr MM =D
Can't beat a good bowie knife.
john pately the bowie is a well renowned utility knife but its basic shape and sice come from the viking seax really, similarities are obvious ^^ still love the bowies tho ^^
This is a pocket knife for a Hickok.
I hate to tell you that vine was an old poison ivy vine so if your hands start itching you'll know why
It never affects me.
hickok45 hey hickok ever comsider reviewing the x15 flamethrower theres some vids but i think youd make it the best
overprepared man poison oak makes poison ivy look like lotion . lol. i almost lost a toe fro. poison sumac lol
I'll probably be broken out when I wake up in the morning just from watching that! Thanks!
I used to be like that till my run in with poison sumac now if I look at it the wrong way I'll get a touch of it. I should of known an old country boy like yourself knew what that was good video and happy new year.
Awesome fun guys ! Great knife
john has the best t-shirts
After watching your video, i tried to buy one, and no one had any, ha ! You increased the demand so much that they could not keep up with production. Thus i put in multiple orders with different vendors- long story short, i now own 5 of them. I will give 2 to my son's and keep 2 for myself ( one to use, the other for display ), and number 5 not sure yet.
If your interested there is a guy in Germany ( Chris ) who on RUclips is 'BlackForest Ghost'. He lives in a small village in the BF. He produces his video's in English & German... he really put mainly knives through quit a workout, testing their worth. He did a video on the Von Tempsy Bowie in Oct 2010.... very interesting guy !
I told him about you and John, as i have also passed the word about your channel to my friends.
Really enjoy your presentations....
Thank You...
Regards Ray ( Buffalo NY )
I hope you 2 aren't allergic to poison ivy because that looked a lot like a poison ivy vine.
Ride the lightning - great music. I've still got the cassette tape!
Sorry Hickok, love the family history and great times spent with the kid, but this video was a miss. Only trying to help the channel, will always watch!
Nope, not a "miss" for John and me; we did exactly what we planned to do. :-)
please be trolling?
Gungeek I agree I watch everything they put out ! Great channel!👍
@@hickok45 you're very fortunate to have viewers loyal viewers like Rob 83. He's watching out for what is best for your channel Hickok you should really appreciate that. Next time I would suggest before you post a video, you should check with Rob 83 after all he's only looking out for your channel and what is best for you and your family. As for the knives, the first three that I've tested have promptly sunk to the bottom of the lake. I am eagerly waiting my fourth sample hope it floats. Although I don't know how a knife that heavy could have much buoyancy, but I don't know all there is to know about Bowie knives. Anyway hickok45 stay in touch with Rob 83 he seems to know for your channel.
"I'm the andSon" hahah
Laughed more at the "and son" than I should have. Forever one of my favorite RUclips channels. God bless you guys.
A Hatchet is much cheaper alternative for utility use . I looked these up $200 is a little pricey to hack on trees with.
RIDE THE LIGHTNING is one of the best albums ever. Now subbing you guys on some of other accounts lol. Great people.
177 views in 1 minute, not bad.
I bought my SVORD skinning knife in 1993 at age 14, $80 NZ dollars damn good knives last you a lifetime.
I always thought the 12gauge was for cutting limbs and small trees...hum..
The videos with Hickock and his son are awesome, I watch both your channels, but the videos you guys make together are very cool and fun to watch.
That vine, covered in small roots, in the beginning, looks a LOT like poison ivy.
hey fellahs, like your channel. How did you hear of Svord Knives? Cheers
From a comment somebody left on the Randall Bowie Knife video.
all SVÖRDs knives are made from swedish high carbon steel ^^
You just cost me $170. Looked these up and found out they make a 7 inch version. Guess I’m eating pb&js this week.
Von Tempskys book about his time In the Americas is documented in his book ' Mitla ' .....it's free on Google books.
if you like big knives try a Nepali kukhri, I like the 15 1/2 " ones. I like the videos cool to see variety of your reviews. keep it up!
Hey guys I like this video with both of you taking part. Hope you do some more. Thanks and Cheers!
Jon
I'd love to have one. Bowie knives are the best knives out there. They can do anything. Great throwers, too!
Close on Maori, it sounds more like moldy, you made a pretty good effort though :)

We need more videos with John in front of the camera! I love the father and son banter!!
you can tell your son was a teenager in the early 2000s. dresses just like my older brother
Thanks for sharing, guys! I happen to know a bit about steel (particular the kinds...plural...used on knives). Interestingly, there are steels (1095 as an example) that are a little "softer" and are less likely to break...and then there are steels that are exceptionally hard and can actually be "brittle" (more prone to breaking). With Ontario, they usually use 1095 or 5160 spring steel in their larger knives. Typically, that steel will "bend" before it breaks, however, if it is hardened improperly, it'll break like you've described. Anyway, thanks for some awesome entertainment (overall; not only this video!)
I keep saying that I will buy this the next paycheck for the last several years :\
Almost took a chunk out of your knee there Hickok, be careful!
"andSon" looks like he's gainin weight.. life MUST be good
I had not gone far when a man of our company was shot. The Major went to
his assistance, and was shot, the bullet entering the centre of his
forehead. He fell dead on top of the man to whose assistance he was
going. That was how Tempsky died.[7]
