"As society moves away from starting wars with natives who resort to cannibalism because they're sick of colonialism, we demand more from the knives we use less." - AKB 2018 The first part of this quote could be straight from a Rage against the Machine or SoaD song.
It took me 6 hours to write this script... just reading, looking at photos, and trying to figure out an angle. The man may have been an adventurer, or whatever- but it seemed like he died a pretty foolhardy way. I figured the context adds an additional backdrop to the dumb beating on the wood.
Entertaining and very enjoyable. I'm sure the fidget spinner and copper/titanium lanyard bead crowd will disapprove, but they can go do deep squats on a pointy stick. Keep up the fun content.
Im the opposite, can't stand em, don't know why people like them, don't think they look good, handle good, or well, are good. But, to each their own ;)
Awesome video man . I loved the comment about the 80 dollar bead. It cost 75% of the knife and doesn't even serve a purpose . This knife looks like it would survive the zombie , super volcano , apocalypse.
You will enjoy Svord Drop point knife from their Economy line. Aside being simple and useful knife it will be great reference point for future videos on fixed blade knives. Cheers (let's say with Cask conditioned Fuller's Imperial Porter).
I’ve always thought this looked like a cool blade. I never wanted to shell out the cash for it though. That wood handle took a hell of a beating! You know, if 3 in 1 oil isn’t pretentious enough, you could turn that blade into a spear, skewer baby seals on your next wilderness outing and squeeze the oil out of them. I did that last Thursday and the oil Is much less smelly than 3 in 1
Alright... I'm gonna be honest. I think in a "survival" situation (or any situation) it would take a lot less energy to carry an ax than to beat on a log for 3 minutes with a knife to split it once. Anyway... the abuse tests are fun to watch. Thanks for another great vid.
Hey, there's no room for that logic here! I own log splitters and axes, which will be featured in upcoming reviews to please all the rational human beings.
I’m going to point out something I use on my knives not to be a dick but because it works better. I use a knife and gun wax for my knives... does that make me a dick? Lol
Not going to lie it's not a bad looking knife and a solid review although I do like a little bull shitting in my vids. Keep it up man I'd rather watch your stuff than some dry ass guy talking about knives.
As a kiwi I was quite chuffed this guy is normal, most knife reviewers are right bell ends with a stick up their rasin. BTW the svord works extremely well as a knife also if you already have an axe.
He was my ancestor believe it or not. I just ordered one, I'm hoping to feel closer to Gustavus lol. I actually have a book with his art as well. He was an amazing guy.

I think we might have inadvertently stumbled on a new blood sport. Maybe Olympic sport some day. Knife Recovery With Implausibly Small Knives.... can we go for Esse Junglas recovered from a hickory log by a Spyderco Rodie.
I had fun with it last time, so I thought I'd give a go at another larger than necessary log. Groups of videos explore new ideas... beatup on new sorts of wood.. you know it's a journey.
For only about 17 more dollars, you can get the full sized one. What man wouldn't pay 17 bucks for an extra 4 inches? Hell, for that matter, what WOMAN wouldn't hand over that 17 bucks so her man her man can get that extra 4 inches? Such a deal! Sign me the f$$k up bro!!!
One thing I noticed about L6/Sawmill steel is that it leaves a strong metalic taste on fruits & veggies you cut with it. I haven't noticed that on any other carbon steel. It's weird, I don't mind though.
If you're not using the oil glands of a grizzly bear in mid-rut to oil your blades, then you just need to turn in your ManCard and go baton your balls with a limp hummingbird feather. I expected more from you, Bro. Anyway, another entertaining video, you keep hope alive; if I didn't spend 90% of my income tracking horny bears, I'd donate more than I do.
Svord puts out some good knives. They don’t always have the greatest finish but the steel is exceptional. I have a few of them including a Golok and a couple of hunting knives. The Golok has that great forged/tempered look that your Bowie does. (The colors near the hilt)
I know, my humor is usually subtle. Like for instance, not once did anyone notice the dick joke. I mean, maybe they did and it wasn't good- but it was subtle nonetheless.
Thaught I was gonna be droned out by your voice an what monotone crap you were saying ,then I realized you kick ass an I actually started laughing at the true shit you said
I have 4 different models of Svord knives that I bought years ago. They are pretty good knifes and good performers. I have a Golok by them that has the rainbow like forge marks on it. You won’t be disappointed if you give one a try. They are not all super expensive.
One question...What in hell does this knife have to do with Von Tempsky? Svord isn't the only make to do this of course. These are actually just primitive finished Bowie knives.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro Lol. Yep. I read about him. These small ones just use the name. They don't really mirror the Von Tempsky contract knives. Guess they don't want to say "Bowie" in NZ. Then they would have to charge the same as all the period correct and primitive authentic Pakistani "Bowies". Thanks again for the video!
I see your point about how centering and other fit and finishing issues aren't really a functional issue, but given that most people who collect knives are interested in knives being more than simple utilitarian tools, it makes sense that we'd want things to be aesthetically pleasing. I mean if we didn't care, we'd all buy one $50 knife and be done with it, never watching reviews or getting into designs, etc.
You know they would take a look at it, then toss it into a case and move onto the next one, only to pull it out once in a blue moon to make some comparison.
You forget that I have spent thousands of dollars on knives. I own and buy the same shit as everyone else. My perspective is different. You see my focus is on general hand feel, durability, lockup, and looks. I have 20 dollar beautifully machined knives and 200-300 with imperfections and vice versa. If I ever get to the point where an off centered blade makes me mad or I flame a company via social media because the top swedge isn't perfect- then I'm done. I don't get how a off centered blade causes someone to be "done" with a company. That is just not what I'm about. The good thing is there are hundreds of other RUclips channels, forums, and reviews that focus on those things. Now sure... if I spent $500 on a Production knife and what I was looking for was an occasional pocket carry to resell in 5 months... then yeah, maybe. But I'm not that dude. All of my knives from the $12 Sanrenmu to the $500 are functional tools, that I can appreciate for various reasons.
Advanced Knife Bro I gotcha. I didn't mean to come off as antagonizing, if that's what you got from my first comment. I'm just voicing my thoughts on why most folks do seem to care about things like centering. But I completely understand where you're coming from now.
Nope... Just clarifying my comments. I stopped buying knives more than $200. I just don't find anything in them that justifies that price... so maybe that's my version of off centered blades. I mean I do see some knives I want over that price point, but I just can't appreciate the tolerances that other people can. I guess all I'm trying to say if that we all get different things out of the hobby... I buy cheap and expensive blades, and I'm willing to let smaller imperfections slide if I really like the knife. I like the discussion- thanks!
I have been around the knife community for some years now, but somehow managed to miss your channel - until now. I really really enjoyed this review! Good job!
I really like your videos, I think people don’t understand how good your camera and editing skills are, just a friendly idea, why don’t you try a collab with another channel, like blade hq or something. Keep up the good stuff :)

I like it. The shape is reminiscent of the original Bowie. Good handle length, good blade length, nice and thick. Good for combat fighting, or hunting/camping. Oil is oil, but if your really worried, use a food grade mineral oil if your processing wild game. Protects the blade from rust, and does not hurt the leather sheath. Back in the 70's a blade smith named Bill Bagwell out of Texas, made the best fucking knives in the world. Then the cost was $100 an inch of blade. I had one, then got drunk and sold it to a dealer, he got me drunk, and have been sad ever since. Find a Bagwell, buy it and be happy for the rest of your live! With a Bagwell Bowie one does not require a wife, car, or house. This blade will take U anywhere in the Universe in the blink of an eye! I know I've been to Mars! (Buhaha)....

I didn't say RUclips star. A lot of the jacked knife dudes I see are on Instagram. This isn't a drama channel, so you'll either have to use your imagination or just know the sorts of dudes I mean.
Advanced Knife Bro I shall watch more carefully. And I want you to know I very carefully considered if it would be untoward to ask. Then I decided: “our relationship can handle it.”
I still watch this video. And it makes me laugh still. This fucking knife looks like that fucking knife, because I’m the end their all fucking knives!! Lol
You probably wouldn't be annoying to the guy if you sat and spouted shit about the type of steel and how great it was compared to the steel us peasants use like a lot of the videos. You just keep doing you cause I love the videos. Never understood somebody paying hundreds of dollars for some expensive steel when they use it to open a package every once in a whole. I'd rather save those hundreds for my whiskey fund. Thanks as always
What was that knife? The Van Dougal Rover? Can't find anything online, perhaps it is spelled differently. What is the steel and where can I purchase one? Love the vids man, keep it up.
So I’m drinking a kiwi beer in kiwiland as I watch and type this. The knife you have is the small one, it’s not historically accurate, the bigger one is. Yes they are different. Vons men used them for everything, mainly because they did not have anything else. The tip often broke off, then reground by hand to a spear point, they were made by a blacksmith with poo steel, not a blade Smith with good steel. Svord is the company, B Baker is the maker, and he’s a nice guy but does not do good bevels, but he does do very good tempering. Keep doing what you do, I like it, I’m a Knife maker, might send you one of mine one day.
Didn't know you work in the same building as Lawrence O’Donnell! I want this knife just for the upper body workout demonstrated. So satisfying to finally see that log split...
thats von tempting knife right there

I didn't say RUclips star. A lot of the jacked knife dudes I see are on Instagram. This isn't a drama channel, so you'll either have to use your imagination or just know the sorts of dudes I mean.
Advanced Knife Bro I shall watch more carefully. And I want you to know I very carefully considered if it would be untoward to ask. Then I decided: “our relationship can handle it.”
Our relationship has weathered this!
I still watch this video. And it makes me laugh still. This fucking knife looks like that fucking knife, because I’m the end their all fucking knives!! Lol
80$ copper and titanium bead. Nice
I wish I were making that up. In case you have extra money laying around.

*$80. The dollar sign goes in front of the number.
Knife Bro... That knife drop and cut-to intro was ADVANCED, thumbs up
Beating the everloving FUCK out of expensive shit=priceless
That log never stood a chance, ya savage.
Alright, ill cut you a deal, ill give you 1 (one) microwaved kirkland brand hotdog for the ranger.
I eagerly await your reply.
I love it when they say it copied the suckbenza when the suckbenza has a modified coffin handle modified trapper blade and a modified liner lock !
I always take the top part of the guard off my bowie's that have the upper part ! And 550 cord rap the handle ! Some time without the insides !
What size of glove do you wear? Cuz that's kinda my thing...
A 12. Is that a size?
Advanced Knife Bro that's HAWT!
I've been watching his videos for awhile & I never looked at his hands like that.
Bless you! Go on??? 😳.
I have 2 of the Peasant folders. Love em! Recommend em!
Great video! Shot my coffee trough the nose couple times while watching. :D
What was that knife? The Van Dougal Rover? Can't find anything online, perhaps it is spelled differently. What is the steel and where can I purchase one?
Love the vids man, keep it up.
its interest me too :)
Vangedal Rover. I did a review on it last year.
I have always like your clear and detail measurement of the knife dimensions.
Cadbury patented their shade of purple lol

Knife makers take note!
Very cathartic at the end.
The log said "fuck it."
hi man do you think the knife is shorter a little bit?
31cm will be perfect for survival use.
Would you be willing to trade this knife for a tops steel eagle 111 hunters point ill even throw in my ayranik e-nip Both are in brand new condition ?
Yeah l6 steel is stupidly tough if heat treated right.
Good vid demonstrating it

This one came back up in my feed and I had to re-watch it because it is funny as fuq!
Yeah the bevels kind of suck- but overall it's a solid piece
Didn't know you work in the same building as Lawrence O’Donnell! I want this knife just for the upper body workout demonstrated. So satisfying to finally see that log split...
One of my favorite videos I watched last year.... It was funny enough I watched the extended cut!
😂😂😂 Awesome response: “thanks your opinion matters. ”
@Joe_X should test this knife, or it’s big brother!😀
