    Back with some 300 Blackout videos. In this video I talk about the best set up for trimming 300 Blackout brass for the price/value/speed equation I could find. I show you how I do it and go about it and chat about other options and considerations. I'm also looking at some other options for trimming here in the future as well. Stay tuned and subscribe as more videos are on the way.

    Great video just got my trimmer yesterday, length does vary

    Nice video. I just got one of these for 223 and so far I’m not sure it’s for me. I find the cases fit a bit loose, and unless I wobble the case around while trimming I don’t get a square cut. Also after a few hundred my hand is fatigued. It is well made and is faster than a traditional trimmer and I bought it thinking I could save money over the expensive press mounted options. For many this will work, but for me I think an RT1500 is in my future.

      The case neck should fit flush and not wobble around so not sure what is going on there. Yes, after a while it will fatigue your hand. I am in the same boat in wanting a more permanent solution to case trimming. I have seen the press mounted trimmers and have looked at the Giraud also, not really sure what to do. I also tried the Franklin Arsenal trimmer unit with mixed results.

      @ Yeah. Ive eyeballed the Mark 7 trim express, but users report mixed results. The Honey badger thing… adjusting that collar so it cuts square… I’m thinking if there’s a caliber you do thousands on a progressive and it’s a cartridge the Dillon trimmer works with- it might be worth the cost.

    Frankford Arsenal can be improved substantially by installing a "trimming case pilot"
    Stabilizes and assist with insertion of case.

    The Little Crow WFT is the best option for trimming brass for 300B.
    I adjust the chop saw 300B jig so I don't have to trim too much with the WTF.
    Obviously, if you use Lake City brass from the same lot, then you don't have to worry about whether it'll work properly for 300 Blackout.
    There a list online of what brass to use for 300B, and which to avoid due to neck thickness causing a problem chambering.

      I am gradually shifting to Starline 300 BO brass and buy a lot when its available. Just more consistent overall. However all of my other brass from many manufacturers will gradually get used up over time and tossed when it gets too worn or simply gets lost on the range.

      @@wanneroo7106 Something else to consider. I buy once fired nickel brass for defensive rounds with bullets like the 120gr Barnes TAC-TX. Super sexy looking and better lubricity for chambering and extraction when reliability is critical.
      For training/plinking rounds, I use LC yellow brass with 147gr X-Treme Bullets.
      In Virginia, there are public ranges where people leave their brass on the ground or in the provided trash bags. I can come home with a 5gal bucket full of all sorts of free mixed brass. Often times, people leave several hundred spend brass from the same make/lot, which is perfect for a reloader. It's range pickups, yes, but it high quality stuff.
      I haven't purchased a single commercial box of ammo for anything I shoot (.380, 9mm, 5.56, 300 Blackout, 300 HAM'R, or 12ga) since 2014.

      I don't think I've made a video yet on the Frankford Arsenal Trimmer but will here at some point, it's on my list, make sure you subscribe to the channel. The issue with it in regards to 300 Blackout is the shoulder bushings and collets don't work with it, so the case falls in ass deep and it just doesn't work. I thought I might be doing something wrong but checked online and found others with the same problem. In any case the worlds finest trimmer works so I use that.

    • @SL1CK1307
      @SL1CK1307 Год назад +1

      @@wanneroo7106 Yes. This is true. I have that one and it is very hard to hold the brass. Also the collet doesn't hold it consistently in the same spot so then you get varying trim lengths. I "modified" mine by filing the hole to be 0.345 so I get it right before the shoulder. It isn't perfect but while I wait for my wft 2 it stays a little more consistent. But following your advise and ordered that wft. Thanks for your videos!!!

      Thank you for the positive comment and stayed tuned as there are many more videos to come. Someday I will probably get one of the fancy Giraud trimmers, but the WFT once dialed in, it works and gets the job done. I had considered the WFT 2 but like with a lot of my stuff I get tired of switching things in and out all the time, so better for me to have one tool per cartridge, it's set and ready to go for that particular cartridge. The Frankford Arsenal trimmer works fine, I have used it for 7.5 Swiss but for whatever reason they don't have a set up for it that caters to 300 Blackout, which to me is a big oversight.

    300 Blackout is great.
    300 HAMR is awesome.
    And... you can use nearly all of the same reloading tools.

    • @wanneroo7106
      @wanneroo7106  Месяц назад +1

      I can't remember what I have it set it to, partly that is why I make these videos so I have it as reference material to see what I did in the past! There is usually some variance so as long as the brass ends up in spec and all within a few thousands I don't get too excited about it.
