This is what wasn't said in the announcement of the Leica M11-P. Me: dave.online/ / daveherring verygoodpreset... Perfect Lieca logo-covering stickers: a.co/d/6pnh6EX
Dave, just appreciate your real life videos! Have the M11 and love it. No G.A.S. for the P... though the Nikon Zf looks pretty intriguing, and is much more affordable.
Best feature: sensor curtain shut down when removing lenses! The M11 is a sensor dust magnet, More than any other cameras for some reason. I was on the market for a second body to go double lens cowboy style, so I went with the Silver M11 P to compliment my M11.
@davidherring lol. I'm holding my M6 TTL 0.85 right now. Summilux 50 ASPH... Focus tab feels so good. I need more Leica lenses, build out the glass before I commit to digital body. M12-P will be worth the wait.
I've been waiting to see if the P added IBIS before pulling the trigger on an obvious choice. Now, I'm more conflicted between the standard an the P. The extra storage and sapphire rear screen is nice and for $200 feel like fair price upgrade. But, I love the red dot AND the script so I'm conflicted cosmetically. I'm gonna have to call my Leica store and see if I can get the Dot with the P and then I'm sold! Thanks for the video and I agree that you can't go wrong with either. IBIS is the only missing piece with an M, but I do have it with my SL2. Side note, your video helped me pick the V1 50 ASPH Lux preowned from Leica Seattle for a great price. The best lens I've ever used and don't feel the need for the V2.
I agree with everything you said. The only updates I'd like to see in the digital M series are sensor stabilization and an adjustable diopter viewfinder.
100 percent agree! I have a chrome M11 with an authentic Leica black dot, black thumbs up and black artisan strap and couldn't be happier. The P looks lovely but I've no need for it.
I actually switched from the 11 to the 11-P. Mainly because I got offered a grade 10 unit that was 2 months old with a good trade in on my 11. I figure I’ll be keeping the camera for a long while since I can’t really imagine what they can do to make me want a 12. I like the aesthetics of the P and the extra memory. I just thought you only live once!
Yes, the P (professional, or reporter edition) is typically slightly different cosmetically and with a few changes (such as the quieter shutter introduced with the M10 P). The M11 P also has the sapphire glass rear display from the M11M. I agree that it’s great to see Leica first out of the box with Content Authentication, just as they were (I think) the first to offer full frame multi resolution, not to mention the first full frame digital mirrorless camera. There will likely be special editions and very pricey limited editions of the M11 which again to not detract from the original model. I remember Nikon offering an early version of authenticity back in the film days (F4 or F5, I think). Next up: authenticity of the creator’s original work product via digital encoding of the photographer’s retina at the moment the photo was captured. (Does not work with Replicants.)
Thanks, agree. Added; buyers will be waiting months to get a camera. Not an issue in the long term. Also, the content credentials features are emerging technologies and will take time to become accurate and consistent with many hassles anticipated as both camera and adobe software gets worked out. Like the design and increased storage though.
I've had my Q2 for over a year and it's absolutely perfect. However, if I were to upgrade my camera then it wouldn't be to the Q3 but to the M11-P. The Q3 doesn't have enough new features to warrant an upgrade but the M11-P would be taking my Leica photography experience to the next level. Funds allowing, of course!
Well, I've just bought the M11-P. I traded my M-E Type 220 in for it and most of my Sony gear will go soon, too. I researched a lot before making this expensive (!) decision and naturally heard a lot about the M11 issues...now mostly fixed with firmware updates. As I am a pro shooter in austere environments I need a small kit that packs a punch, has loads of storage and doesn't fall apart when used hard; the sapphire glass screen seemed just right.. It just didn't seem the right choice to buy a model (M11) that didn't have the latest tech in it. Let's face it, the content credentials feature is what will maintain photo journalists' integrity in the future. However...even though the M11-P has been future-proofed with this, it isn't clear yet if it will become the industry standard. Adobe software isn't ready yet (still in Beta mode) and even though Getty and AP are talking about it, their workflows don't support it yet. It is a thing of the future and so far just a sales gimmick to get cameras shifted. That's how I feel about it. It's just like the Fotos App. It's a gimmick for enthusiasts, influencers, Walter Mitty and those who carry an M11-P as jewellery. Professionals haven't got time to mess about with apps on their iPhone. Here's one feature I am missing: Why can't the camera, when connected to a computer via cable, show up as a mass storage device and move data to the computer FAST? That's where Leica is still lacking. But, I agree with you. The standard is so high now that it is hard to go further. My late Leica M-E Type 220 with 18 megapixels was everywhere with me during the last 10 years. In the end I needed more resolution and whether it is the M11 or the M11-P...principally didn't make any difference. I just figured I'll future proof my workflow and...of course this came at a price.
Thanks for sharing! I think we will see content credentials become the norm as AI becomes the norm, but it’s all in infancy. I’m not sure how long it will take, but I imagine we’re a ways off.
I’ve been using the M11 for close to 2 years now, and i can summarize my reaction to the M11-P as follows: Content Authenticity Initiative: 🤩 (unless/until someone hacks around it?), 256 GB internal storage: 😊, Maestro 3 processor: 😒 (after using the Q3 with Maestro 4). Other goodies - like the sapphire glass: to me it’s redundant as I put the camera in a case and I never “chimp”.
Amen brother….No G.A.S. coming from the M11-P…..yet lol. Great video…. We did get a sweet firmware update 2.0.1 for the M11. We now can use self timer in any drive mode like exposure bracketing. Wooohoo!
I don’t know why anyone would think the P model would be any better than just small changes. It’s never been a large jump from base model to P. Now if someone said they were going to buy a base model next year or the year after I would say wait for the 13th.
They really doubled down on that certificate thing cause they weren’t ready with any new tech 😂. I love that it has it, but the fact you can do it in Lightroom also takes away from its appeal. Still, it’s nice. Glad I still got my m11 - although I did pick up a Nikon Zf which is arriving today…it doesn’t appreciate the Nikon hate 😂 jk
@@davidherring Not all 11's suffer from freezing but many do and still do despite firmware. It would be nice if the P fixed it for all. Both my M11's died.
It's normal, P models are always about minor improvements to the main line. Nothing to do about being at peak of what can be done. I don’t think people would be happy if Leica would start releasing huge hardware updates just 2 years after the previous M release.
@@davidherring When it came out, it was the same feeling as with M11-P. For M10-P, they added a silent shutter, digital level gouge, and touch screen. Nothing that would make you switch from M10. And if you look at forums and reviews from that time, everybody had the same feeling. It's the same camera, shooting exactly the same images. I do believe that the P model is for people who like this classic look and want the most refined version of the current model.
@@distreallwasn’t the screen much higher resolution, too? That quiet shutter and screen functionality felt like big steps. I guess the point I’m making is that while I understand P is typically refinements, the 11P feels really minimal because the 11 is already very refined.
@@davidherring I do believe it was the same screen resolution. But you're right. It's probably the most minimal upgrade from all digital P models. Although about refining M11, I would have some ideas about what could be better. Startup speeds could be definitely improved. I wished that they would bring back classic metering. What I loved about the M10 is that you could use it like the M6. It's silent when you turn it on, and you have the same metering and rangefinder experience. Now, it's all more complicated with the shutter opening on startup. In my opinion, AWB is worse than on previous models, and I think this is the reason many people complain that M11 doesn't deliver print-ready images out of the camera because previous models tended to produce warmer images. My only solution to that was switching to always shoot in Daylight WB. I also wish they would refine the bottom plate. I got a silver model, and the battery has just a bottom plastic painted in silver, which doesn't fit the rest of the build quality. And USB-C placement makes it hard to charge it safely. Don't get me wrong, it's a great camera. I just think that they have some space for improvement.
I don't disagree, but I'm actually enjoying the metering rather than the classic metering. I have black, but I understand that feeling you have if I would have had silver. M11 files definitely seem more magenta and less print-ready, but I'm someone who edits all my photos (with the exception of quick family stuff when I'm shooting 18mp JPGs), so it's not too much of an issue for me. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Dave, great video like always, please keep going this way! Could you please send me the Amazon link to get this sticker? Many thank in advance and best regards Peter
I literally just picked up the M11 the other day before the announcement of the M11-P. How I have no regrets. I absolutely love my M11.
I haven't mine too long and I'm loving it, too!

Maybe the M12 will have IBIS. 2027ish!
The IBIS might be useful but it would probably be detrimental to the battery life.

I was thinking more about the major step up from the M10 to the M10P. The M11 to M11P feels pretty small.

One has to admit, however, that considering the small difference in retail price of only $200, the additional features of the P are exceptional.
