Thank you for continuing this wonderful series. It’s so great to see and hear from the people behind the brand, especially the long-timers, and to be reminded of the level of professionalism that goes into the engineering, design, and assembly of Leica’s products. The company was at the forefront of support for employees, famously so during the build-up to the Second World War, and I am always happy to wait for backordered products, knowing that it is a sign of healthy and strong demand. It’s also good to see that Leica is at the forefront of CAI technology, which is fitting, given their history in photojournalism.
So excited to hear about the content credential implementation. I hope everyone else follows suit and we continue to improve and innovate so that authenticity can be separated from the fakes
Wonderful interviews. The more I learn about Leica, the more inclined I am to pick one up when I retire (can’t take my work one with me). Impressive products, and impressive company. Thanks for guiding us in an exploration of them.
Perhaps this is aside the point but the announcement of the new 28 f2 makes me wonder if the m13 will have rangefinder coupled focus down to .4m or a built in evf of some sort, both of which i would welcome
Interesting speculation. Personally, I’d also like to see an optional focus confirmation overlay within the OVF like that found on Hasselblad’s X2D 100C.
@@3BMEP they’re going to bury me with it. I’m on the look out for a 35 as a companion. I have the Nokton now but I know it won’t be my lens. Something about the feel I don’t like. I’ll probably just end up with a new 35 cron. Same with my M10R black paint. Will never get rid of it 😀 … such a great camera.
The credentialing is pretty impressive on its own, but I hope it also helps as an aide to tracking stolen goods. If you know the camera you hold in your hands it hot goods, and its files could be used to prove you're in receipt of stolen goods unless you strip the fingerprint, and you can't use it professionally without that authentication, then its black market value will make it less of a target.
May I ask you? Can you connect Fotos app to the Leica M11P while it is turned off? So Fotos app will wake up camera and establish the connection. I cannot do with my Leica M11.
This is ground breaking with the regards to a digital certificate. I really want to buy an "M" but the almost annual sending back for calibration would give me slight anxiety. I know it is just the nature of the beast and not a dig at Leica.
Random question for you Hugh, but what are those chairs y’all are seated in? I saw one of those recently in a cozy nook of a museum near where I live and wondered if it was a particularly “special” design. (It was certainly comfortable, at least.)
I like the idea of the content credential implementation. Something has to be done to combat the misuse of AI in regard to still images and video footage otherwise we will have to go back to shooting film which some of your audience probably wouldn’t mind (myself included).
Finally... a solution to knowing that real photo journalism can survive. On another note... Can this chip help in the recovery of a stolen camera? Even if the answer is “No” I’m sure you can see the value that a chip like this could bring in many other ways. Hopefully manufacturers are thinking about this; implementation would add great value the their products.
Thanks Hugh, great content. I visit Wetzlar at least once a year for the museum, gallery and every now and then factory tour. Highly recommended. When I first read about CAI, I hoped it would come sooner rather than later. Professional photographers need this and art directors and photo editors should embrace this. It’s an opportunity to put real craftmanship back into the hands of photographers. Would love to see this in the next gen SL or perhaps S?
We are building an encrypted decentralized authentication platform and it seems a lot of the technology is transferable. We already launched with Duke university for diploma verification and it’s so cool to see similar tech implemented in photography
Anyone update to new 2.0.1 firmware? I visiting Mexico City and getting 3-4 days per charge on my M11. This morning I updated firmware and today used 80% and still need to shot more this PM. I will need to charge/swap battery. Something changed
Our stills cameras are primarily Leicas (M11, SL2, Q3) but our three camera video kit consists of LUMIX S5 IIs. We use their LUMIX S lenses for video stateside, but going transatlantic, we asked Leica to provide us with glass, tripods and lighting to reduce our already excessive baggage weight. 😊 We borrowed the APO Summicron SL 35 and 90 plus our own LUMIX S 85. The chairs appear to be Le Corbusier.

Very good, Hugh. I've been watching you for years and yet your content continues to impress me.
I greatly appreciate your thoughtful interviews of Leica staff!
Thank you for the Interview, the thoughtful questions and your reaction and take on it. Highly appreiated, as always.
As ever, without question the best half hour I’ll have today. Thanks for this.

An very interesting and informative video. You always manage to ask the right questions and get the best from the people that you interview.
This was pure gold.

6:58 The mandler 50mm NON-APO. Legend. All the 50 you’ll ever need.
I own one. 😊

I have to try the 90 APO now! Is it as good as the GF110?
Better
@@3BMEP I’m hoping at some point we hear of a S4… I’m ready to switch back to Leica
Excellent interview Hugh, but when does the Q3 gets this chip? And, what happens to Capture One which to many photographers is there preferred medium?
Good questions!
So how much does it cost? $40k or something?
When you edit the price of the 21 Apo in the video it says 28mm.

Great interview!! People that don’t get it don’t get it. Leica is more than just a camera. ❤❤
Boss man! Ima need you to ask them dudes when LR denoise will be available for Monochrom cameras!

I saw one of those recently in a cozy nook of a museum near where I live and wondered if it was a particularly “special” design. (It was certainly comfortable, at least.)
It's the LC2 chair designed by Le Corbusier.

I have 28 cron and a 35 fle, I can't see me replacing them at a cost of 10K plus, then there are other Leica lenses I don't have.

No, but yes, I can see it - which is why my partner Ed and founded Helium | Design Lab. 😊

APO Summicron-SL 21/2 - I think it is the best lens Ever. It is just very very expensive
Did you buy the Summicron-SL 21?
No. I bought the Super-Elmar-M 18 instead to see if I could make do. I need wider than 21.
@@3BMEP The SEM 18 is a very nice lens.

Gimmicky updates. I wish they gave the new features to M11 via software update.

good entaining interview brownstone , hope they emptied your wallet on the way out !! :D
😜
why would people buy a m11 when the m11-p come out, except for the red Leica logo😁
Was a Leica Camera and lens used to film this segment? The chairs may be stylish but you two don’t look comfortable.
