I did. For my wife and I she was just like a child. My wife was her mum and I was her best friend.
A couple friends, and my retired Navy officer Dad who did not like cats until meeting the two I had in 1990s, have said my two orange tabby rescue fellows who turn 15 and 14 this year, are for all practical purposes not pets but rather my roommates. Liz from creative writers group was first one to say I treated the guys like roommates instead of pets & when I told Dad about that he said "She's right, for all practical purposes _They Are_ your roommates."

Being a cat dad or cat mom is truly one of the finest pleasures of life. I'm a 75 year old sculptor. Throughout the years I've had several of these marvelous creatures and each and everyone of them has found their comfortable spot in my studio. I really don't think that I could be as creative as I am without the cats conducting their lives throughout the day.

I totally get the sleeping thing. My boy cat sleeps on my bed. He arranges himself against the wall so l have room for my feet. My girl cat sleeps on a big, cozy chair. They both snore softly. Sonny has a somewhat lower snore, while Tippy's is a soprano. Together it's a nocturnal symphony. I love it. It helps me sleep.

We had a BIG ginger name Patton. However, he did not live up to that name. Such a sweet, laid back boy he was. A bit of the nip and he'd be totally stoned. Wouldn't give a fluff about anything. Gone 36 years. Such vivid memories.

@@c.ltinsley5648 Our other male cat was a slightly smaller, black & gray long hair, tufted ears, not a Maine coon, but we were often asked if he was. His name was Bradley. My son was a WWII buff, so we had a couple of hairy generals (George Patton and Omar Bradly). Bradley was a bit squirrely, but a cuddle bug ..... until it was nail clipping time. The sounds that would come out of him, one might have thought we were trying to strangle him. Just a bit of a drama queen. Catnip? As laid back as Patton was (more like zoned out) when on the nip, Bradley would roll in it, then eat it (literally inhale the dust), the get the zoomies (not kidding here, when taking a tight corner, he'd be running the walls), then he would sit facing a corner, looking up with eyes wide, and occasionally duck as though some unseen (by human eyes) was dive bombing him, then he would eventually be found under the coffee table, peering out, mewing plaintively, while checking out the ceiling for more invisible Kamikaze flyers. Like I said, he was squirrely.
So glad you didn't abandon her after the covid shutdowns like so many new pet owners did after the reopening..

What? Is there any doubt? My cat was my son. I cared for him and made sure he had his adventure needs met, we took long walks, the best food, I left no need unmet. When he passed, I cried more for him than any of my dead relatives. He was my soul.
I had a little orange boy, and he was definitely my son. All of my cats have been my children.
I have 11 cat children that are NOT independent. They are needy and demand cuddles, snuggles and constant attention.

It's hilarious to see how surprised first time cat owners are about their love for their fur ball. Cats are pure joy, just like dogs, but you can't compare them, which many people do. Apples and oranges, but delicious nonetheless!!

Nope. My cats see me as their mother, and I respond to their needs in the same way a human mother would to a human child. No matter how deeply I am sleeping, even the faintest cry wakes me up. How is that different? I am in houston. Does this woman understand how special, and rare a red female is?

But they are definitely our babies. In some ways they're even closer than human kids.
Because human kids are meant to grow up & successfully start their own lives.
While our cat babies will forever depend upon us & be ready to cuddle at any time they feel like it. Because they're cats not dogs.
The saying is "dogs have owners; cats have staff!" That's why it's so incredible when they choose us to snuggle with!
People think that because cats are smarter than dogs and much more sophistiCATed, so they understand betrayal from individual humans. You cant kick around your cat even if she is 10 years with you, she will see something is wrong with you and keep her distance, while dogs are more like loyal and forgiving but blind to some things that cats are not. Cats are just as loyal as dogs, only its more conditional, in a sense that you have to be sane person and careful with them.
All my animals being dogs or cats have always been my hairy children!

I always love seeing female gingers. Only one in five gingers is female, and yes my cat (Sunny) is a female ginger. And I do meow at her and her siblings. I feel most maternal about her.

I also live in TX in the outskirts of Houston in the country. Sadie originally was going to be groomed to be a barn cat when she grew up (was brought to the farm to live in the barn at 6 weeks) but God had other plans for her and I. I had buried my Kelly-dog months before that after 15 years of sharing her life with me and I was still grieving her when Sadie arrived. I had no clue she was in the barn until 2 weeks after she arrived so she was 2 months old by them. Little did I know that my mom had been secretly praying to God for another pet to come into my life (like all my dogs did in my adult life). When I found out about Sadie and how she wanted to wander off and play with the other dogs that didn't want to play with her and also play with the other adults on the farm that were dog lovers and not cat lovers, it hurt my heart to know she was being rejected. I started to see that she wasn't barn cat material because she wasn't skittish and she had learned to potty in a box full of hay, so I rescued her from barn life and brought inside to live with me in the cabin. I had always had dogs and never cats, but I wanted to give her a better life so I named her Sadie and took her to the vet and bought everything to meet her needs and I admit it's one of the best decisions I have ever made! I prayed to God to give me patience with her because the jumping all over the place was annoying me because I had no clue what cat behavior was like. While I prayed, so did my mom, for patience and love and renewal of my mind to understand and get on board with the cat way of life. Now Sadie has been with me for 6 months now and she sleeps with me right by my side, purrs constantly to love on her and she jumps all over the place and I don't care anymore, in fact I quite find it endearing! Its God and His sovereignty, grace and mercy that allowed Sadie to be sent to my life and transform me into a loving cat mom now, that I can honestly say has made it possible to be sooo grateful for Sadie in my life! Now I am a dog AND cat lover!

I’m glad you have Sadie in your life. I suggest that in addition to prayers when you have a cat behaviour question or issue, you watch some Jackson Galaxy videos. He’s covered almost everything you could run into. Very happy for both of you ❤

I absolutely consider my cats my children. I have human kids too. But they grow up and no longer "need" us the same way. Cats retain their child-like nature and will ALWAYS look to us to protect them and provide for all of their needs. And that is a great job to have!
And they do look to us; sometimes when there is a sudden loud noise outside my two guys will look at me to see how I am reacting. Sort of, _"Okay, the human isn't freaking out, so I guess I don't have to."_
@@scottfw7169 I have PTSD so in my house, it's kind of the exact opposite a lot of the time. Either they're coming over to reassure _me_ or we're all hiding from the scary noise together. Lmao
They do look to me a lot when they hear feral cats fighting outside though. I always say "Now you know what it was like for your dad to grow up in the hood!".
We human cat parents and cat owners are called to be perpetual parents to our kitties. Our kitties will always be our babies no matter how old they are, unlike human children who one day will grow to be adults and expect to be treated as adults.

She looks like my cat Sunny. He was not able to be made an indoor only cat either, lol. He's 12 now and mostly enjoys sitting on our front porch chair napping and watching the neighbors. ❤

I'm a first time cat mom too, and I never even wanted a cat! Now I can't imagine life without her. We nearly lost her to illness a couple of years ago and I surprised myself as to how I reacted. I was a basket case! I didn't know I loved her that much.

Instead of squirting the wonderful Rosie, provide her with an alternative to being on the table. You could put a special place mat or box on the table and have that as her allowed space, or put a small table or other furniture that has a cat space at the same height as your table so she can be with you and observe all without being on the table. Cats just don’t understand punishment; you have to provide a yes that meets their needs as you also make a no that meets yours ❤
