Ex gout patient here. First attack at 27 and didnt like the idea of kidney affecting medication. Attempted natural/clean living route. Took a few years to master but gout free now and happy as. Live in northland and love spearfishing and the ocean. Choose to give up alcohol and limit sugar. I eat alot of seafood, manage stress and stay active. Yep easier said than done but got to try. Life can be good again!!
@@yehbuddy1005 that’s really unfortunate mate, my mums the same, although she probably drinks a little too much. Cutting out all sugar and alcohol is hard but will definitely help
My kids dad had the worst gout I never knew what it was till I met him he was a massive alcoholic time and rehab his leg would be back to normal but then he’d be straight back on that bottle and at 48 I don’t think he’s got a lot of time left unfortunately he has 8 beautiful kids that he’s missed out on some people just don’t wanna be helped
Just recovered from my Gout , lasted almost a week 5-6 days couldnt walk around for 2-3 days ate seafood those days and surprisingly didnt get any worse . I remember hearing all the symptoms or triggers this one day while on youtube so i took note and started recalling all my meals i had before the Gout Attack and the main thing FOR ME that stood out was Red meat and alot of sodium like salt n butter . I remember once upon a time when i was a kid i never bothered to butter my bread or eat a steak at bbq 😂 . So i believe those are my triggers . ❤ Im going to change my diet just to better myself Goodluck to use all and love love Thanks ❤
Good on you doctor shows at least you cared and down sizing medication. I grew up with seafood and eat it I grew up with. I didn't recieve GOUT at 57yrs running the race. Kia kaha all gave FAITH,BELIEVE to RECIRVE. AMENE
Eat celery and drink copious amounts of water is my go to, I think it was the can of mackerel I ate along with some red wine and some whiskey all in a few days probably set it off for me.
Certain tomatoes can trigger my gout, the hydro ones, even tomato sauce!!! Lol When I did get it or could sense it starting to flare up, I would take a couply teaspoons of baking soda with water to balance out the Ph levels in my body, that and turmeric is great as a natural anti inflammatory. I used to see heaps of Americans talking about that aluprinol, apparently it’s legit but you consume it for rest of your days 🤷🏻♂️ Just adding my unwanted 2 cents! 😎
@Millektm your facts are twisties, it was a ceremonious ritual for a warrior to instil mana after a victory Unfortunately, you have to be smart to understand another's culture, especially if your living with Maori in their whenua, fish and seafood any day

Dr's are so overworked and worn out, and when they only have 10 - 15 mins per patient, it's hard to get to the bottom of things and get a proper and correct diagnosis. Not saying this is ok, but it plays a big role. It's not because Drs are racist.

I eliminated sugar, processed carbs and seed oils! Cook with ghee, butter or lard! Eat red meat eggs salmon and low carb veggies. No snacking eat once or twice a day! Weigh the same as I did at 15? No gout turn 60 soon 😂 Plus, get a dog mines hilarious makes me laugh everyday and we out walking at sunrise and sunset ❤ Matewa!
I hope my daughters and son become doctors. We need more Maori doctors. My kids do homework every day, and they up there with best and smartest in school. Proud to see Maori doctors on this show. 👍
I actually did sort it out with diet but that’s easier said than done. I could easily slip back into eating to much fat and refined carbohydrates, like a drug to me. I don’t believe that being overweight and eating wrong isn’t a factor.
Figure out what triggers it, reduce that, cut processed sugar, eat fruit n vege, i went low carb and havent had a gout attack since. Theres alot of hidden sugar in processed foods, best to cook your own food. Also stay hydrated.

This story is full of misinformation . All doctors know about gout . Our problem is that the sufferer does not acknowledge that they have gout . They do not want to know about it and have resistance to taking regular medicines . How about the patient taking responsibility themselves . A pharmacist trying to glorify herself . She cannot rightfully prescribe medicines herself . NZ is going the way of all and sundry dealing with ailments and is becoming unsafe to the consumer . Maori like to claim ACC for their joint pains rather than admit it is gout . The message is not the problem , nor the messenger . It is the recipient of the health message . There is no shame in having health problems . This is the message that this pharmacist and the Maori doctors must deliver . Instead we have self pity and blame thrown around . Buck up and listen to your health providers . All they have to do is to comply . Lack of education and poor health literacy is more at the heart of these problems in health care .
Also. Similar things happening with the indigenous people's of australia. For example the western diet does not go with their genetics. .. especially alcohol.. and diabetes & heart disease is a HUGE occurance for them
This is disgusting letting them suffer when there is a preventative medication and medication to help, sounds like doctors don't trust Maori to take medication properly, which boils down to 1 thing and 1 thing only 😢
It's amazing how any situation or topic is rail roaded automatically by "victims" as racism. It's would be laughable if it weren't so sad. You don't think it has more to do with the huge lack of funding and knowledge in our medical system?
@adamogilvy3404 blinded by your own poison views. Did you stop and think it could be our failing medical system, with lack of funding and knowledge.... no straight to racism 👎🏻

Best thing to do is treat the cause of it, eat the right foods and workout
I do 4 strength sessions a week and 4 1 hour cardio sessions a week and eat relatively clean and still get it.

Our whanau need to go back and eat what our ancestors ate, they never ate red meat, and they were healthy
I agree with u. If you look at old photos of our ancestors they were lean and as you said they looked good.
Soda, white bread seed oils sugar, bad.......red meat is not the problem
WTF !! Never ate red meat , what about dining on your enemies?
