There's a certain point with building cars where it just makes more sense to build another car. Speaking of chassis stiffness. I remember when I first helped my dad install a bolt in roll bar in his drag bug. It was a simple 4 point roll bar (Main hoop and door bars), but was designed to also be used as a 6 point bar with optional tie in bars that mounted to the end of the transaxle horns. Dad tried it without installing the rear horns first because he wanted to keep the rear seats, since he got a cheaper setup that used straight diagonals to the back that bolted in instead of larger bent bars that would go over the rear seat backs, but hated how it felt cause it stiffened up the chassis in a weird way and he could tell the frame horns were flexing a lot. We added the extra bars and man did it launch better without the whole drivetrain twisting around. I looked into finding the roll bar and found he had a very very early ron lummus racing bolt in bar. He got it with the passenger bar and optional traction device add ons. Made for a very consistent bracket car for the class he ran in.
My opinion, if he wants to go up against the promods, he needs to build a promod. Put Mullet back to a drag and drive config with either an LS or another big block and that thing can go 6.60s all day and dominate drag weeks.

Very interesting listen! I do love the mullet - it’s so impressive for what it is but for competition sake it’s probably just the wrong fit for today. Would have been unbelievable in the early 2000s - Bob rieger 57 Chevy era. Cars are too wild now 😂
Aside from the doors and now the front end Mullets body is completely stock, right down to the floor boards. If they cut the floor out and rebuild the chassis, the car could be competitive in the low 6's and high 5's.
I would have left mullet as is for now & built a new primary first. Wasn’t mullet originally stretched to run a jet engine? With the rear cut off, maybe there are advantages to shortening it? (Weight & traction?) Mullets replacement obviously needs to be unique for the channel & merch sales. Unique? - Toyota Century - Austin Martin DB# - Lexus LC 500 (or LFA) - BMW M8 competition - Mercedes c63 amg
They originally stretched the wheelbase for the jet engine. After they decided not to do that they put it back to stock wheelbase, which is still longer than most stock wheelbase cars. A longer wheelbase makes for a more stable car at high speeds and a shorter wheelbase can help with getting weight on the rear tires, but if you're able to move weight around its not really needed.
It's simple. Cleet wants the best of both worlds and he can't have it with the way Mullet is set up. IMO, building another car is the best option. He's not hurting for cash, and he can then cut down on like 3/4 of his problems because he's constantly trying to get approved for certain classes. If he wants to race promods, build a promod. I think sometimes he believes that since he's famous, he can shimmy his way into things other folks can't. I hope he understands that at the track, he's just another guy with a car, and the community is going to bend rules so that he can race what he wants. Its simple at the end of the day.
Slow down alittle and remember to focus on saftey. Some of the sketchy passes in the f150 or the supra. 1000hp with a stock seat and lap belt. Thankfully nothing bad has happened yet. But dudes got 2 kids to think of. I know he will never stop being true to himself. But he should be as safe as possible.
Simple, he built a car for drag and drive and wanted to go fast! He didnt build a x275 combo. Essentially he built a pro 275 or even a 315 rvw engine combo. Drag and drive just needs to be consistent on track to track and make the drive for the class..
One thing tho is that when he goes to practice is cleet does perfect in but as soon as it's race day or drag n drive the car doesn't do good it does but doesn't I wish we get to see more Leroy on drag and drives with ruby
He normally runs the 315 but tracks tell him it's to fast for the other cars so he switches to a 275 tire witch makes no sense of competing if cleetus can't go faster than the other guys
@@Deerfield5 Again that's because of his engine combo. look up the engine combo size limits and turbo sizes for 275 and then pro275 engine combo along with rvw.... the pro275 is his engine combo but only on a 275 then rvw is a 315 with his engine combo.... Sorry but he wants a 4000hp combo and wants to enter a class with say a limit of 2000 is horse shit. Rules are based on engine combo and chassis and bla bla.
@dapickle6128 other teams are just as capable but cleetus job is to build, repair and race these cars. Over build an engine and tune it down to dominate in a certain class then add another 1 thousand horsepower to pull a win last second can dance the line of “Cheating”. Dont forget the original reason for building mullet was for a jet engine but that changed after that death out at the salt flats. they were already so far into the build that it made no sense to scrap it but it wouldnt have been their first chassis choice back then either if they knew they were going this route. @@54raceman
There are thousands of guys drag racing, but if you’re looking at the content of Cleetus, it’s a matter of entertainment versus best performance that you can get watching any pro racer.
Wow after reading the comments i see not everyone can take constructive criticism as a good thing...smh
Do you guys think that mullet can or will ever be a big tire car? Hit the 5s?? Thank you both for all your content.
Did they know at this time the read end of Mullet had weld cracks? On both sides? Lol
Took a minute to realize that is Kevin.... ❤😂😂
Some events for cleetus are not worth entering, with the tyre rules at some of these events its just pointless. World cup is huge but cleetus brings alot fans into that event aswell, so to push it that far with the tyre rules that make it not worth entering is crazy. Be hard for mullet to compete anyhwere if other events follow similar rules even with the new rear end they have, the limit factor will be the tyre.
He just said the chassis is stretched 10in literally a promod lmfaoo
He didn't say it was stretched.. he said it has 10inch longer wheel base than most other cars being used.
Had to google who Garrett was. Talk about a rabbit hole..
His legal name is Lawrence, even deeper...
You really had to Google who cleetus was how are you that slow at figuring shit out it just sounds like you're being a smart ass
@@meeragray7441why y'all care so much he ain't from Florida either but I could honestly care less about his real name or where hes originally from but y'all take shit way to serious Garrett is a real genuine person on or off camera
The problem is that he wants to build a daytona charger as his pro mod which is not that much lighter than an elcamino
Garret did post on Facebook that he was looking for another El Camino to buy
That was a long asa time ago when he was building mullet to be a jet car
@@Deerfield5 it was December 28th, 2023 when he wrote “looking for a rust free 85-86 El Camino. Who’s got one?”
It’s not really wcf it’s Larry Mack’s warriors outlaw, lot of people think wcf pulls rules out of their ass. These classes run all year, and their rulebook excludes 481x which is Steve’s smx without water. If I’m not mistaken ajpe and Steve worked together on a lot of the 481x stuff.
Mullet is ready for custom chassis and cut all the factory stock body panels.
Did you realise its not the same body/chassis as the jet car?
(Weight & traction?)
Mullets replacement obviously needs to be unique for the channel & merch sales.
Unique?
- Toyota Century
- Austin Martin DB#
- Lexus LC 500 (or LFA)
- BMW M8 competition
- Mercedes c63 amg
They originally stretched the wheelbase for the jet engine. After they decided not to do that they put it back to stock wheelbase, which is still longer than most stock wheelbase cars. A longer wheelbase makes for a more stable car at high speeds and a shorter wheelbase can help with getting weight on the rear tires, but if you're able to move weight around its not really needed.
These guys are Hilarious
Why not look at Steve Morris Wagon? that chassis is set up, There is a point where you got to show the bars no matter what?
It's simple. Cleet wants the best of both worlds and he can't have it with the way Mullet is set up. IMO, building another car is the best option. He's not hurting for cash, and he can then cut down on like 3/4 of his problems because he's constantly trying to get approved for certain classes. If he wants to race promods, build a promod. I think sometimes he believes that since he's famous, he can shimmy his way into things other folks can't. I hope he understands that at the track, he's just another guy with a car, and the community is going to bend rules so that he can race what he wants. Its simple at the end of the day.
Dad bods and pro mods!
Im probably the only fan that wants to see cleetus slow down. In all aspects of life.
Keep the good work up cooper
I reckon that's what he's doing with that commodore ute.
Cleetus already started tearing out the back end of mullet but he should have went two cars one engine
You guys arent factoring in the youtube aspect and cleetus has x100 the money and labor to be able to do it
The big teams he is running against are just as capable as him. It’s all about getting connections and knowing who to ask for what
@dapickle6128 other teams are just as capable but cleetus job is to build, repair and race these cars. Other teams racing comes secondary as they usually have shops etc that are their source of income and take 1st place. Look at ksr, he is just as capable but he can't take 100% of his time to racing.
They will modify Mullet to win in the faster class.
Not at World Cup.
s9372 The next world cup!
Why not just start with a bugatti chiron? It's already full carbon
Is there a link to the Tin Soldier rear chassis/frame that Cooper referenced?
Y'all got people rowed up about this one I'll always love Cletus I see no hate just constructive criticism it's just a discussion about what cleetus should with mullet one thing I find weird is when cleetus is running good with the 315 tire set-up they change the tire rule for cleetus to run the 275 but not any of the other guys cleet will be running on the 275 and then the other guys are running 315 witch makes zero sense to me witch it did happen at a track I just forgot what the track name was
I think the issue really was that it was initially built to be a jet car, its a stout car sure.. but since they decided to put a regular engine in it.. wasn't the right fit.
Not the same car, Mullet isnt the jet car project
@@riderzincyes mullet was the jet car project but then they changed mullet for the engine build did you forget cause you can watch it again if you need to
@@Deerfield5 it’s not the same car is what i’m saying, he sold the jet car body/chassis and bought another El camino to build Mullet
@@Deerfield5 watch the video called, we’ve secretly been preparing mullet for the el camino for race week, you will see the car is red not blue like the jet car

Do you think it makes sense for Garrett to transition to a real race car like Alcohol Funny car or even top fuel funny car or rail?
Wish cleetus would build a promod.
Just so everyone knows. Ty literally just cut out the rear end of mullet and are going full floater rear end. Seems like mullet will be done super quick though, so Kevin may be overreacting a bit
The work Tye is doing will help but it still won’t be a full tube chassis car which it needs to be. To fully utilize the SMX potential the car needs double frame rails which I suspect is never going to happen.
@danmyers9372 yea I'm not super fond of the chassis at this point when the fact that it's a El Camino is only a fad at this point
@@Chains377it's not your car or money to worry about that much I'm not being a dick cleetus can do whatever he wants to his car
@@Deerfield5 you also could've just not said anything if you don't care. Have a nice day tho
Very interesting
Needs a c8 drag car. Leroy 8.0
You cant upgrade the c8 yet so there no point of doing that rn
They just scared 😂😂😂😂
Cleetus is ready for a full-on funny car, or Top Fuel dragster. 🏆
Hard to do a drag and drive with those 😅
@@bobmullner5337 🤣🤣🤣
@@bobmullner5337 Both Mullet and Leroy are no longer drag and drive cars anyway. Mullet could be converted back to one fairly easily but World Cup is not a drag and drive.
Pete and Cleetus are driving the Mullet I
On sick week..... whatcha talkin bout Willis?
@@bobbycuesroadhouse2204 Not as it is currently configured. A whole lot of work to convert it back to a drag and drive car.
link to whole pod?
My opinion Cleetus needs to make Mullet the ultimate steel roof and quarters drag and drive car and make Ruby the ultimate drag car that is really fast in the 8th and ¼mile and get Steve to build a BBC like what was in Mullet and he should get a full tube chassis built for it because he will be able to get Ruby alot lighter than he can Mullet and with a light weight car and 3000hp he should be able to compete with anyone that he wants and if he builds it right he can always switch from small tire to big tire with just a few changes
If cleetus wants to remain competitive he needs to get way shorter or run bigger vehicles. It hurts to watch him slumped over in these new cars.
Tuning has gone too far, It is now the Same concept of nitrous on a button. Over build an engine and tune it down to dominate in a certain class then add another 1 thousand horsepower to pull a win last second can dance the line of “Cheating”. But on the other hand financially speaking he could just be over building the car so it can run in faster future classes and fund the racing team which is smart but I very rich way of doing things🤷🏻♂️ BUT you can’t add that much power and not tune the car for it with out some sort of suspension prep or tire prep and size increase (big tire) that’s my thought😂
Welcome back
Why end the clip in the middle of a sentence?
