Not sure if BMW are the same but from my time with Toyota, if we didn’t have a sensor in stock or customer didn’t want to pay for a new one, if you deflate the tyre completely and pump it back up, it can ‘wake’ the sensor up again, it’s only a temporary fix but definitely helpful for people going for their annual inspection 😁
Might save money for the customer short term but when the other sensors fail, the customer will have to pay again to get a new sensor and pay for them to get fitted again...
They calibrate faster if you can create indifference in wheel speed I.e cornering speed hasn't got much to do with it. Ex bmw tech, 1 hour diag + sensor repair kit probably £300 at main dealer.
Did BMW misdiagnose it or did they figure ones broke so the rest will inevitably break, change them out now so the customer doesn't come back with the same fault?
Quite possibly. Or standard Dealership up sell. Company car I had in 2019, was in for service, told needs 4 new tyres. I knew it didn't. All 4 tyres were 3 - 4mm. Garage claimed that as the next service was 10k miles away, the car would need 4 tyres before then. Told them fine I will replace in 1 - 2 months time. Went elsewhere for better tyres, cheaper. Didn't like the O.E. tyres in the wet.
I think that Launch TPMS sensor comes with a plastic washer... but I found a LOT don't... even genuine items. Then the aluminium / steel bolt corrodes onto the wheel... after it gouged up the factory paint... because there is no washer 🙄🙄
Yep absolutely shocking, so hard to keep these modern cars to the speed limit, plus half the time you get taken over on people on electric mountain bikes 😂😂😂😂
Baz, you’ll get used to it, honest. Coming from Germany where basically anywhere suburban has an 18mph limit it shocks me when I return to the UK and see how fast people drive round suburbs and villages. Anyway great video
“They tend to corrode and take the wheel with them” - I’m not 100% sure these are a net positive. I get that most drivers don’t check tyres and will drive under inflated until their next MOT but… that’s a driver fault. Bit unfair to condemn someone’s expensive alloy just to flash a message they might choose to still ignore. I’m usually pretty pro-technology but on the fence here.
what happened to manually checking fluids and tyre pressues which im sur eis still a thing tested in a driving lesson regaring where do what go etc! , never rely on sensors ever, ive seen engines fial wihtout oil pressure warnings coming up and the oil pump is fubar!
I have had main main stealers with all the gear and no idea spotless premises working on my car in the end I found a good independent place and am now more than happy never judge a book bye its cover I would be more than happy to have baz work on my car

I’ve been a mechanic for 43 years and all this bullshit don’t make cars better glad I’m almost finished with this shit
Left JLR for this exact reason, it was tunring into electrical engineering not mechanics! and dont get me started on high voltage shite!

If the other 3 sensors date from 2016 ? they will soon follow the faulty one , perhaps in this case the BMW dealer was looking long term ?
So that’s how they work, obviously having the equipment and the knowledge to use it makes all the difference 👍
That's how some of them work.

Good evening Baz cool guy fixing man and sharing his knowledge 🤩
dealers dont do diagnostics as such, if computer shows a error fire the parts cannon!, its sickening with the cost of modern sensors!

Nice work 🤙we have one of those wands they certainly are magic.
i always wondered how to change those things... Thx for the video

engine management light is on why did you do a test on that too please let us know
Always wondered what they looked like! Can you change the battery in the sensor, or does it have to be the whole sensor?
Nope , new sensor , battery is sealed in , they normally last about 5 yrs , but it keeps us in a job 😂
I got similar problem with my focus and kwik fit wanted same amount
Learnt something today.

This modern teck is BEYOND BULLSHIT
This stuff isn’t new , it’s been on cars for close to 20 years
BMW....short for Baz Meredith Wales.
Shocking price from the stealership.

The speed limit in Wales is 20mph? wat!

I bet there is a massive market. In reconditioned milk floats 20 mph.

Wow at 4.49 pentagrams on tyres now? 😭😭😭😭
i have ford focus i just turned mine of Completely the sensor cost 75 pounds each not Difficult tell if your Tyre is going flat
I Will take the job but i want to wrench too😂
Can you turn these off? Not had a car with these in yet but my TPMS involves going round with an inflator & gauge once a fortnight! 😂
Maybe pull the fuse might work?

Think you need a cleaner and a gardener to with the amount of rubbish laying about the workshop and the vegetation growing through the roof 😂😂
