Absolutely superb material covered there Craig. I've used an Okito Box for over 40+ years - simply because it plays so well with audiences. However, like a lot of Classics, it's a prop that is so often overlooked by Magicians. It's always surprised me; as Coin Boxes can achieve the same effects as a range of various more expensive gaffed coins. Personally, I prefer the one-hand turnover; or if using two hands, then I think that the Ken Brooke method looks the most natural. Performing this element convincingly is, as you say, key to most routines. Once a turnover move has been achieved successfully then, rest assured, people will not work out what may be perceived as an obvious 'modus operandi'. I can state in absolute honesty, that I have NEVER had anyone state "you're putting the lid on the box when it's upside down". I'm sure you've never had that either. Maybe that is what has put many Magicians off using them? May I just add one point that people may want to consider practicing. When just a single coin is penetrating through the hand during a routine, then I prefer to get the coin into a purse palm. Then by placing the box onto outstretched/straight fingers, it's more natural looking than a closed fist. Moreover, when you get the spectator to push on the box, it immediately releases the coin from the Purse Palm, so the timing of the penetration looks perfect. That little ruse was taught to me by Bobby Bernard, more years ago than I care to remember! I'd recommend anyone to work on this and see if it's something that they feel adds value. Just some older references that may prove useful. The Lewis Ganson Okito 'Teach-in' covers some superb handling and a few easier routines. Slightly more difficult (but not in any way knuckle-busters) are contained within Ed Marlo's booklet 'Coining Magic' (published by Magic Inc.). Marlo covers some very effective routines; particularly using Copper/Silver transpos. I think Magic Inc. still sell the booklet - it's not much money for such a valuable source (it also covers some superb paper/coin fold ideas and routines). Would I like you to produce another broadcast on Coin Boxes? I think you'd have guessed the answer to that one! Well done mate on your ability to deliver such a raft of routines superbly; your passion for the subject is not just very enertertaining but hopefully, extremely encouraging for those willing to 'give it a go'. Best regards, Barry Allen.

There was a point in time when people buying the coin box set would receive the printed instructions and routines that made up roughly 1/3 of David's "Expert Coin Magic" book along with the 3 boxes and 1 lid. Now you get the link to the video instructions. Having grown up prior to the age of video recorders and players, I have found that I prefer printed instructions and tutorials. I love videos for watching performances, but the written word is generally my choice for learning new skills.
Additionally, this is a great video about coin boxes. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into its production. I will refer to it often.

Well done Craig. I got my first Okito box 50 years ago and the only instructions was in BOBO. Maybe I should go look for it again!

Bravo Craig - you are gloriously informative (without spilling too many beans) and also entertaining. I now have lots of new ideas to play around with using my wonderful (and apparently, rather rare) set of four Stainless Steel half-dollar Chazpro "Buddha" boxes (Okito, Boston, Slot and a "Chopped" Okito) ...
