    I found your channel and this trick today 2/27/24. After watching it a few times I broke out my deck and started learning it. I watched the video intently, pausing it at key places, making sure I counted and spelled correctly. It took a few times before I had all the counting/spelling and placement of the sections of the deck in their proper places. I'm now proud to announce, "I've got it!" Great trick! I have a function coming up on Thursday and I know this will be one of the tricks I'll have with me. Thanks so much! Now, time for more practice.

    One of the best I've seen. It's got a card trick, a prediction and a nice 4 card reveal to close the deal all while making the spectator feel like they did it all. No set up isn't the right term. Maybe no pre set, because u do it after they shuffle. The deck can then still be in rotation for another no set up trick to be performed right after that one like maybe the round and round or something fun . I prefer these so I can do a few without having multiple decks of cards. Makes it seem much more magical because it's from shuffled cards and flows better. If you're changing decks between tricks you're done. They know that deck is rigged in some way and the illusion is lost. It's not magic anymore it's just a cool card trick. Please do more of these. I want to flush out a set of nothing but card tricks that can be performed with the same deck back to back. Know it seems simple to many but I'm just now learning. I've got 4 down pat and have done the 5th twice now and getting more comfortable. I need some more please?? I love how you do it and explain these tricks. Some of the other channels explain like you already know a lot about magic and want you to do special cuts and shuffles. Then they go thru it so fast you still don't get it. Pausing trying to get your cards to match theirs. No fun. I played along with your reveal and got it to work for me first time. Easy to remember too. You have a new subscriber now. Pretty please do more of this for those of us that aren't good at pinky breaks and the myriad of positions to hold cards I've never heard of lol.

    • @carlloud1187
      @carlloud1187 2 месяца назад +3

      I agree. Being able to do several tricks with the same deck without any pre-arrangement or set-up is way better than having different decks for different tricks. When you start bringing out separate decks for a separate and different trick the trick loses its mystery and intrique. The audience is already watching us like hawks, they know when a different deck is brought into play even if it's the same color. As far as a word of encouragement, I certainly didn't know a pinky break from a double or triple lift, or a double-under cut to an Elmsley Count when I first started all those years ago. You'll learn. I did. Have a magical day.

    You don't need to reshuffle if the first card that matches the bottom card is too close to the bottom (as long as the next one isn't also). Let's say you want the bottom card x from the bottom, but the first match is not more than x away from the bottom. You can just:
    1) push over the bottom card
    2) push the matching card and all the cards above it onto it
    3) push enough more cards onto that make the matching card x from the bottom
    4) put that entire pile onto the table
    Using this technique, there's no longer a reason to limit the position of the second card to spelling the value of the first card because it's extremely rare for more than 2 cards of a given value x to be within x of each other. So you can actually have them count to the value instead. This seems "more random" because a participant can intuit that a card's name has only a few different lengths, but there are 13 different values. (Of course, you may either want to have the deck reshuffled if an A or 2 is facing, or else revert to spelling the value in those cases--1 or 2 cards isn't enough to deal off.)

    A really simple and amazing effect! Personally, I like to reveal the prediction card last; the image of them finding 3 of the same cards and me having predicted it all has greater impact. Also, after dealing the cards for them to say stop, I let them handle the cards and instruct them for the rest of the trick and make a point after that I did NOT touch the cards nor influence them to say stop or cut in a specific place. Anyways, thanks for the tutorial!

    If you get a situation like that with your queens in the “what if” section, you can place the 2nd queen as your prediction card and then the 2nd and 3rd queens effectively swap roles. Looks more natural than reshuffling I think

    • @MattMcGurk
      @MattMcGurk  2 месяца назад

      @@docrocker2194From a technical perspective your correct. That’s where presentation comes in. You act a little indecisive about your prediction card, like you may want to change your mind. That justifies the continued search. There’s a bit of acting involved. However, when you get to the third card of the four of a kind, you could always cut the deck at that point so that card becomes the back card of the deck, then remove the fourth matching card as your prediction. Either way will work. Hope this helps.

    I have been doing this trick for years, but I think I like the original method better. I start with the pile of cards upside down in my right hand and start looking thru the cards by moving the top card to the left to my other hand. This way the FIRST card on the deck (not the bottom card) is the one I will be using. In addition, there is no reversing of this card or any others - the order you set them down stays the same as you dealt them from the pile (no subtle moves). To me, it makes the "looking" for the prediction card look very natural and normal. Great performance by you however - your slight of hand is much better than mine!

    • @MattMcGurk
      @MattMcGurk  3 месяца назад

      Yeah man, I get it! The original method never felt right for me as any other time I would spread the deck, I do it from the face. Just felt so unnatural. Moving the cards is pretty invisible as I’m talking with the spectator so I always do it this way. It’s different strokes for different folks! Thanks for your kind words 🙏

    Hi matt, I'm really determined to learn this great mind blowing card trick. However I've one great idea to enhance and improve the shock value on the audience member's mind. Rather than telling them that you're selecting the card, tell them that the card they cut to is the predicter card which they blindly randomly selected, which in turn happen to match your random selection. So it gives them the power they did'nt know the possessed..

      I’ve been practicing a ton since yesterday and impressed the gf/mom with it.
      I showed prediction card first.
      Came up with a whole script about “since she didn’t pay attention to how many cards before saying stop, the magic could be gone and the whole trick pointless and won’t work” (while I reassemble the cut deck, key card on top.
      They have to flip the top card and luckily there was just enough magic left to make it work…
      Ta daaaaaa!
      If you really want your mind blown, I can try to transfer some magic into the dead pile over there, it’s up to you I mean I already predicted it once, it wind take some real magic to make it happen again…. Go ahead pick up the junk pile let’s see…

    The trick should be properly credited to the late Jerry Mencer. It's his "Four Way Coincidence" trick and I have been performing his version for over 30 years. And yes, it certainly does fool many magicians.
    The main difference is that in the beginning of your version, you perform the effect from the face or bottom of the deck whereas Mencer's version utilizes the top of a shuffled deck which then goes into the setup (aka as "looking for a prediction card") I still have Mencer's lecture notes for the effect.

    The problem is the count of 5. It is better to count by the first card, for example 4 = I only put down 4 cards. It is better to choose the lower cards from the left - the manipulation of the upper card from the right is eliminated. Flipping the card gives me a 4 and I count 4. It's absolutely natural without changing decks of cards. I use this trick to unobtrusively stack cards into another trick.

    So this is actually a set up trick. I saw the performance and of course knew this had to be set up. It's a great trick and I appreciate you teaching it. Imagine doing this with No set up . TY again. Not being a jerk just hoping It was somehow possible . -)

    • @MattMcGurk
      @MattMcGurk  2 месяца назад +1

      Hey that’s no problem. I appreciate the comment. It isn’t a set up but it’s actually a cull. A set up would be a pre-arrangement of the cards. The fact this starts from a shuffled deck makes it impromptu. The cards are then controlled into position during the trick. If that qualifies as a set up then it would mean that any card trick starting from a shuffled deck and controlling a card would be a set up. If that’s the case, then they are all set ups! Regardless, not to lose point over definitions. It’s a fantastic trick done from a shuffled borrow deck. I really appreciate the comment and support.

    I'm a support worker, and I done this with a young lad I support. However, on the final reveal, I perform a double lift to reveal a different card. I then asked him to pick up one of the cards, rub it over the top of the yet to be revealed card, and use the magic phrase "Cha sha cha". I then show the card, and there is the final forth card 😊

      That’s the part that lost me. How the spect cuts to the card?

    • @MattMcGurk
      @MattMcGurk  3 месяца назад +1

      The card is on top of the deck to start with. Follow along and you’ll see that it’s just an illusion that the spectator cuts to that card, it’s the original top card of the deck

    • @ShadowofAngels05
      @ShadowofAngels05 3 месяца назад +1

      The cross-force cut through me off as well. I had to go look it up elsewhere to understand what happened at that part. I am glad you highlighted the move used, but I was expecting you to explain it in the video as well. So i watched it and followed from what i thought was step by step, only for it to fail. 😅
      For future maybe add a quick, this is the cross-force cut breakdown, mid tutorial so we don't have to leave the vid to find it or create a tutorial for that specific move with a link so we can follow along and come back to it more easliy. 😀
      Absolutely fantastic trick, though, and I am now practicing it! Ty
      Love the non-setup, setup tricks. It's just so much fun to be able to perform impromptu!

    OK I am very slow. How do you force the three when the spectator makes the cut? Miss that and still don't get it.

    • @MattMcGurk
      @MattMcGurk  3 месяца назад

      Follow every step with the cards in hand and you’ll get it. The cut is never completed, and you show the original top card of the deck. Failing that, search cross cut here on RUclips.

  • @WhitePointerGaming
    @WhitePointerGaming 3 месяца назад

    Is there a way you can do it without dealing the cards face up like that? If the spectator is paying attention, they will see 2 of the same card get dealt down on top of each other.

    • @MattMcGurk
      @MattMcGurk  3 месяца назад +1

      Don’t worry about that. 1. They don’t know what’s going to happen so 2. They don’t know what there are looking for. 3. It perfectly natural for 2 cards of the same number to come out together. 4 They can’t see what they don’t know what to look for.
      Approach it from the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time rather than someone who has learnt the trick and knows what to look for.
      All that being said, if that’s one part of the trick that you feel could be improved, then get creative and work out a way to do it.
      Great question! 👊

    • @stevesalt9005
      @stevesalt9005 17 дней назад

      @MattMcGurk yeah but how often do tricks force specific cards, making it impossible to repeat without suspicion.
      Granted it's not wise repeating tricks, but this one would be improved by doing it twice. With the card changing each time really makes it look authentic. The four of a kind amplifies that.

      There is an art in both choosing and controlling a spectator, which could probably be the subject of another video! Don’t feel bad, some people are just a bit funny for some reason. Literally 1 in a million. After a while you get to see tell tale signs of people who may not play along. In that situation after you’ve gone past the double card, you could say, stop any where you’d like around the middle as we need two piles of cards for this. Hope this helps

  • @Brewermb

    The title says no setup,, OK the cards are shuffled, but then you look through them and create a setup, good for the layman, but I don't think many seasoned magicians would be fooled. Still a great trick, thank you.

    "No setup!" - "First get them to suffle the cards. Then setup the pack right there in front of them."

    • @MattMcGurk
      @MattMcGurk  16 дней назад

      It’s what is know as a cull. From their perspective you just remove one card. You need to consider the appearance of what happens from the perspective of the specataor, not what actually happens.
