In case this is helpful for anyone, the Living Proof Bond Repair product must be heated to a minimum of 140 degrees for a minimum of 20 seconds to activate all 3 bonds advertised. Heat under tension is not required, so wavy/curly diffuser heat drying will also work. This info is directly from Living Proof customer service (Nov 2022).
@@ashleyschmidt2413 Any additional products should be applied after 10 minutes, then heat style. There used to be an FAQ section with those details towards the bottom of the product page on the brand website.
Although you hair is completely different than mine (I have curly, thicker hair). Your suggestions and take on hair products are on point. Most importantly, you make sense and explain in a way for all to understand. Take what you need, use what is best for your hair, so on and so on. Thank you for sharing.
Sleeping in a wet bun completely destroyed my hair. Until watching your videos, I thought I was doing a good thing. I've been following you for at least a year and a half and following your advice has totally changed my hair, especially using k18 and Bond repair. It has grown 6 inches since December and the grow out is in great condition.
Abbey really helped me with my hair too. I now use the coconut oil (the one she uses) and K18 and living proof, the L’Oreal bond repair conditioning treatment, my hair is longer than ever I have to trim it every other month it’s insane. I thought I would have issues bc pregnancy but my hair is thriving I really credit her for that
I just got the dove intensive repair shampoo & conditioner for £1.99 each in a UK discount store. My God my hair felt divine afterwards. Would not have thought to buy this if it wasn't for you Abby. Normally I'd spend £25 up on both shampoo & conditioner and this was way better. Thank you ❤
Omg same! I was about to buy my usual 31 dollar hair mask, but I decided to try the dove conditioner out instead. AMAZING! same exact results for 25 dollars less (because Israel is expensive af and it cost me 6 dollars for conditioner only lol). All thanks to Abbey!
@@ellenojala9985 I know, right ? The cheapest bond repair i use on my relaxed hair is Redken's, i feel like bond repair hasn't found its market here yet, maybe people are not as intersted as americans are ?
@@aminadiouf1113 i was searching it and the rest of the products but i can't find them in Europe. i had no clue that one can't find the same things from well known brands.
I just want to say thankyou, thankyou so much for your videos and your advice! For years I have brought more and more expensive stuff trying like hell to sort my obscenely dry hair, I have avoided washing and even had a boyfriend say I was disgusting in an attempt to sort my birdsnest of a hairdo! Two washes in following what you do and my hair is incredible! It now doesn’t stand on end when I hold it out! It looks healthy and I’m just so happy! Thankyou, there are so many people peddling nonsense and you are just wonderful for putting your knowledge and expertise out there! I know it’s just hair but I feel like I now am confident in how I look so keep doing what you’re doing and I just hope all others who feel hopeless like I do stumble across your videos too!! ❤️
This video is a Godsend! Thank you, Abbey! I feel like I spent a lot of time questioning my routine and if I'm using too many bond repair products, the right products, hair oiling too much/not enough, etc. This is so, so helpful! Hope you're having a fantastic Sunday:)
Abbey, next time you get your hair colored, could you have your hairstylist show us how they do your hair? The way they color it, the products, etc. I know you recently showed us what brand you use and color shade, but I would love to hear from your stylist why they use the brand they use. Is it better than others or not. Thanks! 🫶🏻
Hey Abbey, I just wanted to respond to the part where you mentioned that you hate the way you talk…I think it’s very normal to be overly self-conscious about your own voice/speaking patterns and you shouldn’t worry about it! I used to hate listening to any recording of myself and worry I sounded awkward until I met my husband who loves my voice and compliments it all the time and realized it was just my own insecurities. I’ve watched at least half of your videos over this past year and I think you sound perfectly normal and have never thought you talked in a weird way. I hope that is reassuring!
We should get an updated video for best leave in Conditioning SPRAYS! Maybe a separate video for drugstore vs high end. My Personal preference is looking for a heat protection & Detangling!
This is unbelievably informative and helpful. I cannot quite believe how well researched and well explained your content is. PLEASE NEVER STOP! When dealing with a cosmetic industry that is so filled with pseudoscientific nonsense you are the insight we need!
Abbey, would you consider including women dealing with hormonal changes & medical situations in the list of people who can benefit from bond repair products? Thyroid changes, menopause related changes, medical treatments, & medications can dramatically change our hair health, strength, & texture. Bonding products can be a great option to help!
Watching for like the third time. Even though the bond repair conditioners say to use before shampoo and then shampoo after you use it com like a conditioner? And then use another conditioner?? Do I have to use the second conditioner or can the bond repair be a conditioner?
Abbey, thank you so much! I don't have Epres but this morning I tried the bond-treatment combination K18-Redken-Living Proof and it worked so well! Very happy with the results! I hadn't thought of combining them. Thank you so much!!
I found your channel and started following your advice probably 3 months ago and my hair feels really good. I have dark brown hair that has many layers of past bleach and dye history underneath . I use L’Oréal bond repair and their blue bottle clarifying shampoo and it’s my favorite thing you’ve recommended.
I'm trying to use up some hair masks and conditioners I'm not super fond of, and I recently started adding a few drops of the ogx oil to my hand and mixing them together and it's made a HUGE difference in how soft my hair feels
@@SarahOpossum this is an awesome tip! I invested in SO many hair masks and conditioners but find myself drawn to the Dove Bond Strength and L’Oréal Glycolic Gloss range mostly. Doing this will help me use up the expensive Amika, Color Wow, etc. products that just don’t compare to the Dove Bond Strength for me.
Sebastian No Breaker bond repair spray doesnt get enough love! It gives my curls smooth, frizz free volume along with a light bonding action. A totally unique product that I would love Abbey to try but it is probably best on curly/wavy hair....
I use the loreal bond repair pre poo as a pre poo and put it on my roots. I do have medium hair, but it's very fine/ thin with face framing layers. I've had no problems and can go 4-6 days between washes, but I don't have oily hair. It doesn't weigh my hair down at all, and I've seen great results by using that product on my roots, too. However, I apply the pre poo to my mids and ends all over first and then do my roots so it's not on my roots the entire 5-10 minutes like I do on my mids and ends. Then I shampoo twice with either loreal bond strengthening or her liason bond repair combos, use the dove bond serum mask, and then loreal bond repair pre her liason bond repair conditioner. None of which weigh my hair down at all. But I do clarify routine at least once a week to a week and a half. It has worked with my hair. Most of my hair care products are drug store except for the weightless shampoo and conditioner from live love locks or her liason.
I have taken so many of your recommendations that have truly helped my hair. I have a dry scalp, no dandruff, gray, thin, fine hair with navy blue low lights. I wash my hair one to two times weekly, use K-18 about once a month, and Living Proof after every wash. I cycle through different leave in conditioners/heat protection depending on how my hair feels. I just started using Tsubaki Premium Moist and Repair shampoo and conditioner. I would love to know your thought on these products. My dry scalp is not as itchy and my hair has more volume and not as much frizz. Thank you for all your effort, information and kindness!! Many blessings!!!💖💖💖
I've used so many of your tips and recommendations and they have helped my hair tremendously. But I just can't get on the K18 train. I've used two bottles, followed the directions exactly, tried your tips on it and even tried different techniques thinking maybe I'm missing something and EVERY time I use it, it leaves my hair dry and brittle, feeling like straw. Other bonding brands have just worked better for me at a much cheaper price.
I have the same effect with K18 if I use to much! For me, one pump is enough for all of my hair, if I use more it gets crinkly and dry and weird. But if I use just the tiniest amount, it works so so well and makes my hair so soft❤
@@jackiealltrades I started with no conditioner per the instructions. Then I tried multiple things including conditioner and a moisturizing mask. I even made sure that the products I used didn't have extra protein in them because I know products higher in protein, mixed with bonding or repair treatments can have a drying effect. No matter what I tried, I still got the same results.
@@milavannieuwenhuizen819 I'm really happy it's working for you! I know sometimes products don't work because of user error but I really do think in my case, it could be my hair type. I made sure to use a small amount as well because my hair is fine. The bottles lasted me a lot longer than it said. However I have very long hair and a lot of it so I need to use a little more than the average person to cover my strands. Unfortunately, after two bottles and every different technique I could think of, it was just too expensive for me to not get the results I was hoping to get. Glad it works for some people though!
I think it’s so funny that brands market these products as “pre-shampoo” because it’s “easier” for the consumer….in what world??? I didn’t know you could use them after shampooing until watching this and now I’m like thank the lord bc getting my hair wet, getting out of the shower, applying product, waiting, then getting in shower is NOT THE VIBE.
Great vid Abbey! I wanted to note for those who may try bonders with hair extensions; they have not worked well for me with my extensions. It seems almost like the hair feels heavy, coarse and dry when I use them. I've tried many and they never make the hair feel better. Love them on my own natural hair though. Also, protein doesn't feel great on my hair extensions either. I just stick to heavy moisture masks while wearing my extensions, then use all my bond builders when I take them out.
Do you have a bit of natural wave in your hair? If so, I'd love to see you try a wavy hair routine! I have 2b wavy hair, so can easily go back and forth between straight and waves. You've really helped me transform my hair! Even if there are some products that work for you, but not for me, I can easily tailor your advice to fit my hair.
@@EverythingAndNothing08 love Swavy Curly Courtney! She has been a huge help for me and isn't as prescriptive as many other curly head influencers tend to be.
Thanks Abbey. These really are all the questions I had too. Since using Dove's line, and L'Oréal my pure white/gray hair has stopped shedding, and breaking. After 5 weeks it's now fuller, soft, and growing like a weed. My frontal bald spot from the side I primarily sleep on has even filled in. I was losing copious amounts of hair. I swim + hard water. So much so my husband who cleans the drain was concerned. I used a Olaplex dupe from Temu, and in 1 single wash it stopped. I suffered for 9yrs like this, and almost went bald. You videos have changed everything for my hair. Thank you vm for this video! ❤🌞🧜♀️
Thank you!! I'm excited about your drugstore bond repair video!! I've been using the L'Oréal but it's always nice to hear about others out there as well.
Thank you, thank you. My hair has changed because of you. My hair was very dry and I used expensive and cheap shampoos, and after I used your method yesterday, my hair became like silk. Thank you again
this is on my list of videos to make! It's such a complex topic though so I'm trying to think through the best way to deliver it without it being like a 5 hour video lol
OMG Abbey! Why did I wait so long to try K-18?! I've used it exactly one time so far and my hair immediately felt softer, smoother, and stronger. And it's shiny AF. I can't wait to see the long term results.
You are the only one whom i follow for my hair repair journey & I hv learned what is bond building repair treatment & helpd me a lot...still learning from you 😊❤❤
I have fine higlighted hair. Have used K18 for years. In only use 2 pumps on entire head and I have long hair. I also follow up with a leave in conditioner. I just started using Epres. Loving it!!!
Abbey, I’d love it if you reviewed this particular hair oil/serum hybrid. An Instagram creator said it’s better than Olaplex even, and that it did wonders for her hair (I believe she was using it long term) in terms of making it more silky and shiny as well as decrease damage. It’s called the Bali secret hair vitamin capsule I also saw her put it on and indeed with short term instant results her hair looked so much better Id also love it if you tried the Shu Uemura oil and Camellia oil - Shu Uemura oil: A Japanese oil, high end. people say it’s so much better than the Olaplex oil or K18 oil, and helps in decreasing their hair damage by a lot. It’s also very moisturising - Camelia oil: It’s a Japanese oil. I saw Audrey Victoria put it on for a week. It’s not heavy thick like the other oils she but, it penetrates to her hair but was DEEPLY moisturising. Like, you could see it in the video how soft and silky it makes her dry ends feel (dry ends!) without weighing them down at all!
Although these are a totally different product category (oils as opposed to bond repair products), I'd love to hear Abbey's reviews of different brands and products she hasn't yet mentioned or talked about much. Perhaps a video rating kerastase, Shu Umera, other Redken lines she doesn't really talk about, the L'Oréal Professional line, Moroccanoil, Virtue and so on. So many luxury products I'd love to know her thoughts on. In particular I'd love to know her thoughts on other Amika products rather than just the Kure. Maybe a RUclips episode rating different hair masks would be fun!
I tried the Shu Umera treatment and did not like it at all. My hair felt really dry, was extremely difficult to blow dry and style, and it felt like I had some "coating" on my hair. I personally won't be trying any more of their products. BTW, they are not inexpensive
Hi, Abbey! Really hope you see my comment. I met you last year and loved every video of yours. I am a fellow long hair girl and last year my beloved hairdresser got me wrong and lightned my hair wayyyy more than I was used to (it was lighter in tone and also more abundant). At this point I was a golden blond girl for 2 years with very very long and health hair, even tho I use heat at least twice a week (I always had a very specific care for my hair, with a specific routine). After this error, my hair got really weak and I trimmed my hair and started a new routine, for a more damaged hair. When I met your chanel, I was also presented to K18 and when I was in the USA last december (I live in Brazil and we don't have these products here), I bought both k18 and Olaplex. I did not use the Olaplex, started using only the K18, following the manufacturer instructions, contrary to what you reported in the videos I did not felt the need to use conditioner after, but I tried with and without conditioner in the K18 washing routine. Well, for my sadness, in the third ou fourth washing my ends was absolutely horrible. The best way to describe it was looking like a nest. Completely broken and way worse than when I begun the treatment. Just like to remember that I cut a good portion of hair before starting using K18 (around 1 open palm of hand). I emailed K18 but they were really no help. I stopped using K18 all together since this happened and started with olaplex after some months and it was good. But I really wanted to know if anyone here would have some inputs to why K18 would have this horrible effect on my hair? Thanks in advance to all possible replies! Kisses from a hair addict.
I'd love to know this too because I got worse hair after k18 leave in which didn't make sense to me. I wondered if using bond repair or too many bond repair products is bad? like if I used every product in this video wouldn't that be bad? I need to finish the video lol, but went to the comments first..I know too much protein is bad so wonder if is the same with these?
We need to condition our hair after the k18 treatment. It’s not a protein so no need to worry about that. But in no way does k18 condition. It just makes it stronger.
I feel like k18 gets a lot of hate for not understanding it's use. It's supposed to help repair hair bonds not make your hair silky smooth. We already have enough products for that and i feel like that's the gap k18 was trying to fill, a bond repair step. It does not make my hair silky smooth but that's OK i have other products to do that and if it feels bad then i used to much. I wish more people stopped getting mad at k18, it is science backed after all, i just don't think you will get the silky mirror like look with only k18 but it helps lay the foundation.
@@Lavendergemi this! In my experience, the in-salon K18 always gave me silky, smooth hair. But the at-home is just maintenance. I also think the people who say it makes their hair feel like straw are probably using the wrong amount and/or are using it as a substitute for conditioner. The brand has done itself no favors by shrouding the exact details on usage in some mystery. Customers shouldn’t have to email the brand directly for basic info the way Abbey does.
In my case k18 left my hair silky soft but toooo soooft maybe too soft I felt my hair fragile of being too soft then I added a conditioner for my type of hair with protein and my hair was 100% repaired
I agree with you. A couple of years ago I made a bleach processing error and literally fried my hair. I ordered k18 that day and used it the next day when it arrived per the package directions. I felt that it was totally useless, my hair felt horrible and I returned it immediately. Days and weeks later I realized that it did save my hair I just didn’t know about it at the time and didn’t know I could use a mask afterwards. But my hair didn’t break off and stayed on my hair, the gummy texture went away and I was able to nurture it back to relative health. So I came back to k18 and use it sparingly and intermittently in combo with conditioner/mask.
Thank you for the detailed content! Something as simple as demonstrating how to apply a product in your hair by scrunching from the bottom has transformed my curling iron curls when applying finishing oils. Amazing! You have the most comprehensive content in the hair space, thank you for all the hard work!
Ladies if you relax or have a straightening treatment, YOU NEED BOND REPAIR! My wash day consists of a before, during, and after bond repair. I use Epres before, L'Oreal, Garnier, or Olaplex during, then Living Proof after.
@@linaelkhabiry9951 I am a former hairdresser, it depends on the type of straightening treatment, probably written in the product instructions. General rule, if we talk about pure straightening treatment like a perm, but for straightening I don't see why this could be a problem, I try without stress. On the other hand, the other types with keratin treatment, etc., personally I wouldn't try 😅 Always read the instructions for your straightening treatment and the "bond repair" treatment, if there are any contraindications 🙂
@@linaelkhabiry9951if it's perm straightening, nothing will reverse it. If it's a keratin treatment, bond repair is pointless, it won't penetrate the keratin coating
Credit where is it due! I have been oiling my hair and picked up some new bond products from your recommendations. ( Epres and K18 were already in rotation) My hair feels amazing even after just getting Balayage. You are amazingly helpful and as a fellow industry nerd I ALWAYS want the science! ❤❤
Hey Abby! Do you still use Lameller Water products like The L'Oreal 8 Second Wonder Water or Amika Flash Liquid Shine Mask? And if so when during your routine?
I have a followup question on "Can your hair be far too gone for bond repair". So is the only solution in this case a trim? And then after getting a trim, will bond repair help in anyway?
Sorry if I missed this, but I thought we shouldn't use protein conditioners every wash, is it better to alternate? I'm having great results with these recommendations but want to make sure I'm doing it right! Thanks!
I’m curious about something Abby, you held up several bond repair products and said that you cycle through and use them all, so how do you know which one is actually working the best for you since you use so many?
@@kburnette7524 not trying to step on Abbey’s toes, but from my own years as a beauty columnist you have to be fairly regimented in how you test products when you first get them. For example, introducing only one new product at a time and using it consistently for weeks in order to evaluate its effectiveness for you. After that you can mix and match based on what your hair seems to need on any given day, since that can vary quite a bit depending on circumstances (how long you’ve gone between washes, how much product is in your hair, if you’ve been heat styling a lot, if your hair/scalp are dehydrated from too much time on airplanes, etc).
Thank you for showing how you use bond repair in your routine! I started using K18 and after the 6 consecutive weeks I was wondering if it was OK to use my Redken bond repair product in between k18 uses. This was soo informative as always. My hair has never felt so healthy since I took charge and started using your recommendations. You're a hair saver!! 😊❤
Everyone, including me, thought my hair was getting curly as I aged. After starting K18, I realized that it was all the damage and frizz that was causing it to look curly. After three weeks of K18 after every wash, my hair has a slight wave, which is the way it was when I was younger. I love the results.
I'm glad you talked about who needs to be using bond repair products. I rarely use heat on my hair - just a blow dryer because I have almost 3 ft of hair, no bleaching or coloring either. I usually have my hair in protective styles. Tried bond repair products before but never noticed a difference after several washes so gave up, it's good to know that I may not need it at all
I am confused about the K18 tips given here and using a conditioner or mask afterward. Unless I am missing something, K18 is a leave in and specifically states not to rinse after applying. However, once the 4 minutes are up, the directions state you can then add your favorite leave in on top of it. That's how I am reading instructions. I get what you are explaining, but if you can rinse it out it without losing benefits, it should state that on bottle.
they've confirmed to me directly that you can essentially do anything to it after the 4 minutes is up. Because during that time, it's penetrating your hair fiber & won't rinse out after
@@AbbeyYung To what extent does this work for different hair porosity though? Low porosity hair would more than likely take much longer than that to absorb, and how would we be able to tell the difference? Also, isn't your hair super wet after just having washed it? I always feel like I need to wait super long before my hair is even remotely dry enough for K18, even after using a towel
@@AbbeyYung Thanks for reply. I am surprised the salons don't seem to be aware or they would be upselling another deep conditioner service afterward. LOL. The lack of conditioning for some can be the only issue I see with K18, otherwise I think it is fantastic. I use Pureology Color Fanatic leave-in liberally after the 4 minutes are up followed by a small amount of Olaplex #6 and #7 oil on ends when dry. Just blow drying is enough that I rarely even need to use a straightener. Has definitely prevented breakage too. Thanks for all of your intensive research and sharing what works for you!
@@deboratron I keep a microfiber towel over the shower wall and use it to squeeze as much moisture out of my hair as possible before applying K18, masks, conditioners or laminating treatments. I also make sure my comb is dry before I use it to distribute product and that my claw clip is dry before I use it to hold my hair while waiting for any treatment to penetrate. I pop a shower cap on during the K18 four minutes for good measure. I also do not rinse between K18 and hair mask/conditioner since there’s no point. I just go in directly with my mask/conditioner once the four minutes is up.
I have also been using k18 for years as i would bleach my hair heaps. Ive stoppes bleaching for about a year and recently went without k18 for about 2 months out of pure laziness. My hair started to get reallt frizzy and ends being knotted. I used k18 and instantly felt life come back to my hair. I use a moisturisinf cream and hair oil after k18 and have no issues with it feeling gross. Tempted to try out the epres product! Love your videos❤
Same. I’m 57 and have very dry hair from health issues but the bond repair makes my hair drier. I feel like I need to start following someone closer to my age for hair tips.
@@roberta9428 Oil! Try the OGX oil that Abbey likes. I even use a little bit of plain coconut oil (a tiny bit goes a long way) because it can penetrate the hair shaft. Dry/gray hair is wiry and not as flexible as our younger hair, so the penetrating oil is a huge help. I use a little oil every day (silicone based like the Blowout Professor recommends) and a little coconut oil when it feels dry. Before bed is a great time to use the coconut oil because when you wake up, it will have penetrated leaving hair softer, shinier, and not greasy looking.
Great video and editing! Thank you to both you and your sister for your hard work! My hair is transforming. I've never been able to grow out my curls this long until I started following your advice. Thank you for sharing what you've learned with us.
I am a hijabi and have severe breakage even on my roots. I always thought my hair was frizzy but yesterday it clicked after the shower lol. Im guessing it will take YEARSS till my hair will grow 'in one length' i wish Abbey would show how to style your hair wills minimal damage since I have to get my hair up in a bun to cover my hair. Please if anyone has any tips/tricks do tell
Could you braid and pin your hair instead of sleek buns? That would take tension off. Maybe you can style your hijab a bit differently for a so while that you don’t need to sleek it. My bff was a hijabi and she wore cornrows mostly.
I have one more addition to those who can use bond repair. I have scarring alopecia. The hair falls out and the hair follicle scars. Bond repair does not keep my hair from falling out, I take prescription medicine for that but bond repair absolutely helped the damage hair growing through the scarred follicles. I completely agree with Abbey that you have to use trial and error as not all bond products work for everyone. I used Olaplex and did not like it. I used K18 and did not see a huge improvement but K18 with Living Proof was noticeable. Then Epres came out and honestly I like it better for my hair than K18. So do I still use K18? Yes as I got some on a buy 1 get one sale but I don’t think I will repurchase. Love to see the drug store bond repair as I would love some cheaper options to try. Thanks again Abbey for a wonderful informative video. Also I love your voice and all the research you do so please know we love hearing you!!
I am an older gal and have always had really thick wavy / curly hair. A year ago my hair started shedding beyond normal and my Derm did blood work and said everything was fine . 😢.... it continued to shed over the winter and so I asked GP to do blood work and he said everything was fine. I feel no one is listening to me and I am so thankful I started out with thick hair or else I wouldn't have any left. It is so frustrating, and I'm doing everything I know to do to be gentle with my hair and scalp. I started taking nutrafol and a multivitamin to help start from inside my body.
I am 62, and I had the same problem about 2 -3 years ago. I started taking Dr. Berg Vitamin D3 & K2 (1 per day), and Dr. Berg Hair Growth (1 per day). I also follow that nice lady recommendations, and my hair grew so much. It is longer, fuller and healthier. I love it now. Hope it helped ❤
I have incorporated the pre wash oil and a few other products by watching your videos. Would you recommend a bond repair product for virgin hair? I stopped coloring my hair back in 2018, so I now proudly wear my silver crown 🙂
I really don't know much about them! They weren't covered in my trichology course or in any of the sources I had studied previously. Will see what I can find!
Hi Abbey! Thank you so much for your incredible research and expertise. Do you have any information on what shampoo & conditioner to use following keratin damaged hair? I used to get the brazillian blowout around 2x per year with great results. I switched to the keratin thinking it was healthier, and about 1.5 years in, my hair is stiff, dry, and breaking. How can I treat this? Would getting the brazillian blowout on top of the keratin help? Let me know. Thank you so much!
My hair is the healthiest it’s ever been thanks to you, Abbey! I’m experiencing my postpartum hair loss right now and it STILL looks better than it ever did before 😂
I feel like I'm not the best source for this because I don't have frizzy hair naturally! So some of the things I do in my dry/style routine don't work for viewers with frizzy hair. And typically things needed to prevent frizz (tension, blow dry brushes, not air drying as much as I do, etc) ultimately cause breakage.
my hair is super frizzy naturally and the best thing I found for blow drying it without too much damage is to use the Dyson Supersonic with the flyaway attachment. It's fabulous
I used K18 every wash (washed once a week at the time) for 3 months to recover my hair from extended use of monat products. Now I add it in every 4-6 washes. My hair is soooo much better.
I still use a few bond repair products but have realised I´m just not the target consumer, since I don´t have damaged hair. My hair has really benefitted from using an oil beforehand though.
Since I’ve started using a bond repair hair mask, I’ve noticed a significant decrease in split ends 😍 my hair is up a lot of the time, so it would break and get split ends so easily. Now, it’s been over a year since having my hair cut and I not almost no split ends! ❤
Do you rinse k18 before applying your mask/conditioner? & same goes for between the mask & conditioner do u rinse the mask then apply conditioner? These specifics were left out of the other video too. Thank u so much for all the detailed videos ❤️❤️
I bought the Loreal Bond Repair set but it made my hair look more dry, stiff and damaged than before. 😮 I then added their leave in serum too but that was an even bigger disaster, it gave me Hermione hair! Awful! It felt like wool... Why did this happen? What went wrong?? Has anyone else had a bad experience with these products? I have very long natural blonde hair with wavy texture.
I recently got a bonus-size sample of the L’Oréal binding shampoo and rinse out treatment, and yes, the rinse -out serum felt really drying. Hairdressers have told me that using any product with protein (not sure if these have protein) should be kept to a minimum as too frequent use is detrimental to hair and makes it rough.
So I have used the Living Proof triple bond complex twice now on your recommendation, and damn. It’s good! I introduced it 1-2 months after I started using my other two bond repair products (Epres and the Dove bond strength mask), so I can really see the difference Living Proof makes. (Though I’ll also say that Dove mask is still my favorite bond repair product in my routine right now. I can’t use any other conditioner anymore!)
The Redkin Acid Bonding has worked the best for me of all the products mentioned. The only one I haven't tried yet is Epres. My order came in today, and I'm excited to try it for my next shampoo day. I had a worsening breakage problem seems to now be stabilizing. Thanks so much for all the information. I am starting to have hope that my hair can be healthy again.
@@harrietxo2310 Thanks for asking! It has been my favorite so far. The first day, I sprayed on my dry hair until saturated and after about 10-15 minutes, I could feel it getting softer. I left it on overnight and had noticeably softer smoother hair after washing/drying/styling the next day. I also noticed less breakage. I have used it 3 times so far. My stylist noticed at my appointment this week that it looked a little healthier than last time. Do you have a favorite?
Hi Abbie, have you tried Kerastase Premier Repair Mask and based on your overall opinion how do you think it stacks up as an additional repair product. I apologize if you have already addressed this product and I missed it. Please let me know! Thanks so much! Dee
@@anitaxxxxx I can totally see this working. It just seems like a REALLY expensive leave-in! I highly recommend the Mizani leave-in conditioning cream (not the spray) - I invested in so many leave-ins but nothing makes my hair as silky smooth and soft as the Mizani. I have fine hair and it doesn’t weigh it down, either.
I have dry hair every time I use the Living Proof bond repair so I stopped using that one. But I agree, some products may just not be the best for certain hair types
I also don’t love k18 but it did save my hair after a bleach disaster- olaplex was much harsher than k18 for me. That said, it wasn’t until I used the k18 clarifying shampoo that i really noticed a huge difference and made my curls pop. Anytime my damaged hair doesn’t respond well to a treatment, I use that clarifying shampoo and anything I put on after works 1,000 times better.
Black Ladies/Ladies with natural hair PSA! These hair recommendations are great! if you need something more moisturizing, just add in an occlusive oil (castor oil, jojoba oil, sunflower seed oil, or mineral oil) into any of the deep conditioners and you have a affordable bond repair/deep conditioner! I stir in 1.5 tsp of castor oil into the Dove Bond Strength mask and it is fantastic!
@@shanchip1 I want to give a high recommendation for the Mizani leave-in conditioning cream (haven’t used the spray, which is lighter). I didn’t realize it was for Black hair when I bought it but it’s AMAZING for my fine Caucasian hair. Nothing else makes my hair feel so smooth for styling.
The video I needed! I have been hating how K18 has been making my hair feel. I was following the directions on the bottle so was so feeling very confused of why so many people love it. I am going to condition after I let it sit the 4 minutes since my hair desperately needs the conditioner. Also, I have been coating my whole head so will not put it on my roots. I also think I will add in the Epres. I am so thankful my mom is a hair dresser since I can get her discount at the beauty supply stores for this stuff :)
Hi Abby, I was wondering if you would you be willing to share what products and colors your hair dresser uses on your hair? Like are you using a base color or is your base your natural color? How does she do your highlights? Is it just a color lift or bleach and does she use a toner? Also what brands and colors. It would be really helpful, Thanks😊
Have you looked into the dove 10 in 1 bond serum? I recently purchased it and I am loving it. I've seen a reducage of split ends and breakage since I do go in for blonde highlights once or twice a year and using heat. It has helped keep the moisture in my ends. I usually use it after washing or if my hair needs a bit of tlc between washes. I am hoping I can try more from the line because it has just been a game changer!
I'm so glad I'm too lazy (and cheap) to damage my hair in ways that need more than shampoo/conditioner to revive. Also glad my hair texture can handle my laziness.
I stopped dyeing and using heat on my hair and hair still needed so much care to not break since it's naturally dry and wavy, some of us are just unlucky like that.
@@solfuela1393 Unfortunately, I don't have product recommendations since my hair is straight and average all around. Looking at the Dove lineup, their many offerings might have something that would work for you?
Hi Abbey, I’ve been following your hair routine suggestions for a couple of years now. I am a young 75 yrs old with lightened blonde hair and love what your advice has done for my hair. I’ve been using K18 once a week following with pureology strength cure conditioner or Redken acidic bonding conditioner or Amika mask. I have also tried to insert Oribe shampoo and co conditioner for the luxury and delicious fragrance on occasion but I’m not sure where to fit it in!!! I use Living Proof bond repair next in my routine per you and wow, I can’t imagine anything better for my hair. This week I finally purchased Epres and tried it without using K18 or living proof and I didn’t feel or see any difference in my hair. I use pureology color fanatic leave in conditioner and color wow smoothing before drying/styling, (I live in Florida and really need something to help with frizz). Can you please fill in the blanks for me with using the Oribe, Color Wow smoothing, color fanatic leave in part. I feel unsure of the application of these additional products after the Living Proof. My hair does look better than ever before in my mature years but I feel a bit anxious about using so many products. I do think there is always room for improvement, but would greatly appreciate your point of view. Thanks so much for all the great content and for all your dedication to Hair Love. It has surely changed how I feel about my fine, mature blonde hair!!♥️Dee
@@deeb66 Dee, I’m surprised you didn’t feel a difference with Epres. Can you share how long you left it in before washing? And did you make sure your hair was saturated with it? Personally, I interpret their direction to “saturate” to mean ensuring no strand is left dry, but I do not use so much that it’s dripping off. Seems wasteful and is way too expensive for that. But I still feel and see a difference every time I use it - makes my fine hair super soft and there’s definitely added shine. Sorry it hasn’t been so straightforward for you.
@@jackiealltrades Jackie, thank you for reaching out to me. I’m not concerned yet about my first experience with Epres. I had gone an extended period between washes at the point for unusual reasons and was not taking my time with application. That is not my regular hair care routine. I plan on using it this weekend along with my usual routine. I do understand the to saturate properly. Have a nice day!
My hair has been transformed since following your recommendations. I’ve been using K18 and redkin bonding treatment for 10 months. I had a lot damage from highlights and hot tools. Can you clarify if when you use redkin bonding treatment you rinse it out or shampoo it out. Thank you so much for sharing all of this information 🌸
Hi Abbey, love your videos! Just wondering if you can recommend or do a video on kids hair care routine. My daughter is 9. I have no idea what she should be using in terms of shampoo, conditioner, leave ins, oils. She has a lot of breakage for some reason. Also brush recommendations would be great. She doesn’t use heat yet, just air drys and has never coloured her hair. Thank you!!!
Hi lovely! I'm a hairstylist but I have been watching your videos for years. I'm currently trying to grow my hair out for the first time since I was 15, it has been through the ringer! And in my job you can imagine why, I would love to hear your top suggestions as to what I can do. I am currently wearing tape extensions as I hate the length of my hair. They are properly taken care of, no scalp pulling and I of course maintain very well. Would love to hear what you think, thank you ❤
I never had much hair damage since I don't use heat/bleach but I still noticed my hair feeling so much smoother/less tangly after using some of the bond repair products you recommended
Ah! Good information to know. Thank you for sharing.
Any idea about the use of leave-in conditioner? Couldn’t really find any info. I assume it’s ok to use after 10 mins
@@ashleyschmidt2413 Any additional products should be applied after 10 minutes, then heat style. There used to be an FAQ section with those details towards the bottom of the product page on the brand website.
Is it possible to use conditioner before k18?
@@yolglaidisrosario7338 No, K18 must be used on hair that has been shampooed only. Conditioner can be applied after.

Sleeping in a wet bun completely destroyed my hair. Until watching your videos, I thought I was doing a good thing. I've been following you for at least a year and a half and following your advice has totally changed my hair, especially using k18 and Bond repair. I really like your hair and everything about your hair and everything else too and your natural beauty is very great just like your videos too.
Thank you ❤
Oh which one? Saw Dove in poundland but was sure it was different to the ones Abbey liked?
Omg same! I was about to buy my usual 31 dollar hair mask, but I decided to try the dove conditioner out instead. AMAZING! same exact results for 25 dollars less (because Israel is expensive af and it cost me 6 dollars for conditioner only lol). All thanks to Abbey!

Sebastian No Breaker bond repair spray doesnt get enough love! It gives my curls smooth, frizz free volume along with a light bonding action. A totally unique product that I would love Abbey to try but it is probably best on curly/wavy hair....
I’m going to try this. Thick curly haired girl here with frizz prone hair!
Other bonding brands have just worked better for me at a much cheaper price.
Are you using conditioner or a mask after the K18?
However I have very long hair and a lot of it so I need to use a little more than the average person to cover my strands. Unfortunately, after two bottles and every different technique I could think of, it was just too expensive for me to not get the results I was hoping to get. Glad it works for some people though!
She’s sponsored by the brand so she’s going to support them no matter what.
Great advice wow starting to understand why I am not getting the results I expected.

It’s called the Bali secret hair vitamin capsule
I also saw her put it on and indeed with short term instant results her hair looked so much better
Id also love it if you tried the Shu Uemura oil and Camellia oil
- Shu Uemura oil: A Japanese oil, high end. people say it’s so much better than the Olaplex oil or K18 oil, and helps in decreasing their hair damage by a lot. It’s also very moisturising
- Camelia oil: It’s a Japanese oil.
Abby should generally just review more Asian hair. I think in general they just have so much good stuff and are ahead of the western hair market

I tried the Shu Umera treatment and did not like it at all. My hair felt really dry, was extremely difficult to blow dry and style, and it felt like I had some "coating" on my hair. I personally won't be trying any more of their products. BTW, they are not inexpensive
The Shu Uemura oil is the best, i always have it restocked🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

My wash day consists of a before, during, and after bond repair. I use Epres before, L'Oreal, Garnier, or Olaplex during, then Living Proof after.
LOVE this lineup
but my question is if I’m getting a straightening treatment wont the bond repair weaken the treatment or make it lose its effect ?
YASSS I was going to say this. Curly perming as well. : )

I lost all my curls from using the Redken bonding treatment. It made my hair soft, but straightened it. I had to do a big chop.
I would like to see bond repair for silver dry 60+ hair; it's relatively easy to repair hair when you're young.
That would be wonderful. 🎉❤
Same. I’m 57 and have very dry hair from health issues but the bond repair makes my hair drier. I feel like I need to start following someone closer to my age for hair tips.
@@roberta9428 Even with conditioner and masks ?
@@rationale7727 I tried that coconut oil but it made my hair feel like straw. I can’t use any product with coconut oil in it.
You should try to use more silky scarfs
Also I love your voice and all the research you do so please know we love hearing you!!
what do you take to help your hair grow?
@edena2769 TY!! I do take calcium plus D3 for my bones because bone scan said I needed help. I will definitely check out the K2 and Dr Berg
@@rmp8950 The D3 & K2 is one pill. It is very beneficial to take the D3, with K2. Wishing you a lot of success .

Good morning Abbey ❤ love your Sunday morning videos 🥰🥰
Abbey, are you referring to Alex Padgett? I can’t find it listed so just making sure
I have incorporated the pre wash oil and a few other products by watching your videos. Would you recommend a bond repair product for virgin hair? I stopped coloring my hair back in 2018, so I now proudly wear my silver crown 🙂
Can you please talk about Brazilian and Keratin treatments? The Science of them. Good or bad?
I really don't know much about them! They weren't covered in my trichology course or in any of the sources I had studied previously. Will see what I can find!
I have had Brazilian blow out it dry my hair out I have not had it two years
Fantastic! Thank you for the deep dive into these products. I purchased every single product, let the healing begin with my bleached blonde hair.
Wondering if there's been any update from Living Proof about how their bond repair works as they couldn't previously release this info.
YAY NEW ABBEY VIDEO!!!!💜💜
🥰🥰🥰
My hair is the healthiest it’s ever been thanks to you, Abbey! I’m experiencing my postpartum hair loss right now and it STILL looks better than it ever did before 😂
I wish Abbey would make a video on how to properly blow dry your hair to prevent frizz/breakage
Yes! Or just best drying method to avoid frizz in general.
@@AbbeyYungoh no, so what you’re saying is I have to choose between frizz and breakage? 😆😅
my hair is super frizzy naturally and the best thing I found for blow drying it without too much damage is to use the Dyson Supersonic with the flyaway attachment. It's fabulous
@@Rebecca_Dolango to the Blowout Professor... he is the GOAT
Which oil do you like?
@@SusanSaysSomething the one and only OGX coconut oil 🤌🏻
Since I’ve started using a bond repair hair mask, I’ve noticed a significant decrease in split ends 😍 my hair is up a lot of the time, so it would break and get split ends so easily. Now, it’s been over a year since having my hair cut and I not almost no split ends! ❤
Can you give us an update on the bioprograming hair tools?
Hi, what are they? I've never heard of them.
@@rachelcoisnacoillte6023 they are Japanese special hair tools. Pretty cool technology.
I have been following all of your tips and they are amazing! Thank you so much❤
This is so helpful! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with us ❤
Its concerning how much I love your content, clear, honest and to the point. Take wathever time you need but dont ever leave RUclips
How did it work for you?
@@harrietxo2310 Thanks for asking! It has been my favorite so far. The first day, I sprayed on my dry hair until saturated and after about 10-15 minutes, I could feel it getting softer. I left it on overnight and had noticeably softer smoother hair after washing/drying/styling the next day. I also noticed less breakage. I have used it 3 times so far. My stylist noticed at my appointment this week that it looked a little healthier than last time. Do you have a favorite?
Hi abbey! What do you think about the bumble and bumble bond repair serum for bond repair?
Hi Abbie, have you tried Kerastase Premier Repair Mask and based on your overall opinion how do you think it stacks up as an additional repair product. I apologize if you have already addressed this product and I missed it. Please let me know! Thanks so much! Dee
Have you tried the Virtue repair serum?
I use epres as a leave in treament after i blow dry my hair. It reduces frizz and makes my hair soft.
K18 doesn't work for everyone. It makes my fine hair like straw after a few months.
Do u use conditioner ? K18 doesn't condition it just repairs and u get results much later
Protein overload. Only use it once a week and only if you bleach or perm your hair
@@rutviraimagia1781thin hair girl.. same thing … olaplex works better
I have dry hair every time I use the Living Proof bond repair so I stopped using that one. But I agree, some products may just not be the best for certain hair types
@rutviraimagia1781 yes. I use cer100 now and get better results.

She has several videos on this!!! One or two is even at the Hair Salon!
It’s illegal to be this early

Have you looked into the dove 10 in 1 bond serum? I recently purchased it and I am loving it. I've seen a reducage of split ends and breakage since I do go in for blonde highlights once or twice a year and using heat. It has helped keep the moisture in my ends. I usually use it after washing or if my hair needs a bit of tlc between washes. I am hoping I can try more from the line because it has just been a game changer!
K 18 did nothing for my hair except emptying my wallet....
😂😂😂
I'm so glad I'm too lazy (and cheap) to damage my hair in ways that need more than shampoo/conditioner to revive. Also glad my hair texture can handle my laziness.
Less is best. Good for you.
Which products do you use?
I stopped dyeing and using heat on my hair and hair still needed so much care to not break since it's naturally dry and wavy, some of us are just unlucky like that.
@@ladycrowley1413 that makes sense. My hair is also dry and wavy without bleach and heat.

I actually think it would like nice if you cut a good 4-6 inches off it in.
Why?
