You are doing just fine with following your journey getting to know Prince. They say there is enough unreleased music that Prince made, enough to keep you occupied and me for the rest of our lives. Don’t know your age, so you may last longer than myself. (I am 71.)
How was my Australian accent towards the end Margi?
That was the fabulous Rhonda Smith on bass, yes she was on the Ellen show. You should should check out the song they were about to transition into D.M.S.R. Only Prince can go from shredding on the guitar to laying down some funk like the one he was about to hit this audience with.
She was amazing, and her bass tone was among the best I've ever heard!
I really hope he does listen to D.M.S.R (after this song) its one of my all time performances just PURE FUNK (and some fun)😉 "what gang u in"?
"Kool & The Gang" 🤣 if u know u know.
I adore this performance of Shhh, it's perfection. Prince left this planet way too soon, I always thought he would be like BB King or Buddy Guy soldiering on into his 80's doing what he loved.
Same. 💔
Agreed. I completely thought he would be jamming for decades to come.
I think most of us thought he’d live forever. That’s why it was such a shock.
@@tracynorman1455 Maybe not forever, but he was so notorious for living healthy that something like what happened didn't seem to be a possibility.
Keep it on man. Prince work's worthwhile to be revealed. Great reaction.
Thank you Antonio!
Who cares what anyone says Bryan people will always have something to complain about. If they don’t like what your doing they don’t have to watch. Prince was a special individual and your reviews are awesome. So please keep them coming.
Peace and be wild.
I love Prince! I listen to him every day and watch him live a lot. I also love watching your reactions to Prince's songs. It's very sincere and with great respect. Thank you for that. Please continue to do so, regardless of all the "friends".
Thank you so much I really appreciate this :)
A friend is someone who edifies us, supports us and someone who is willing to be honest with us.
My hubby saw John Blackwell for the first time at this tour and became an instant fam and probably during this song. I remember being amazed at the hand work of “the octopus man” I also remember when John lost his daughter. I think she drowned. It was a sad time for John and his wife.
This song is well… let’s just say it’s hot 🥵. Everyone is in white. Bryan your reaction is everything lol. That’s the face we make when he plays guitar. Hits the soul. Rhonda just kicking back on bass. Then the infamous drum solo, ugh. This song just takes you to a place called the purple high. 😃
Very well said. 💜
Absolutely love John Blackwell; died way too young. Personally my favorite live show drummer of all time. Attended this concert at the Palace of Auburn Hills in 2004. Watching him play this and the song Musicology live was epic. He was the Shhhhhhit. RIP JB
I agree!
All i have to say is the GREATEST GUITARIST THAT HAS EVER LIVED!!! No guitarist can match him, not even close!!! Awesome video and reaction my man
been saying that for yrs 🎶☔🎵💜💯
Thank you Joey Joey!
Joey Joey - I agree. Hesitant to say it because it is subjective yet he is the greatest to me. I am open to the Hendrix perspective because I don't think you have Prince (especially in his later years when he went back to guitar as his focus) without Hendrix - in the vain we came to hear him.
@@drgeorgetayloriii4280 Mr Taylor yes Hendrix and Santana have been great infuence for Prince, but the fact reminds, A great guitarist cant just be jugde as such based on simply on guitar skills, we cant look at Prince as someone who Has great vocals, great showmanship, great band leadership, great audience control, great dance moves that also happends to also play Godly like guitar. We have to accpet the fact that Prince is a Guitarist with second to none guitar prowess that can do everything mentioned above, and we cant say that about any other guitarist past or present. Not to mention the also fact that Prince with the guitar can cover masterfully any genre.
He is very good no doubt. But nots let get twisted he’s no Joe Bonamassa. Lol But this is definitely one of his best jobs.
I love this performance. I always thought it was a bit strange he gave this song to Tevin Campbell (being so young), as it's def an adult theme.
You know Prince better come with it after that drum solo!! LOL. John Blackwell is my personal favourite of Prince's drummers...but I have respect for them all. This footage def highlights all their talent.
Bryan, your facial reaction was in tune!!! :) Thank you friend for another great reaction
✋hi5
Be careful mixing those antibiotics with so much caffeine, my friend! 😂 You'll give yourself whiplash there.
The thought that popped into my mind is that this would be maybe song 8 of 25 on a night like this... My goodness, how spoilt were we? Phenomenal artist, phenomenal band.
Hats off to Michael Bland for being the creator of that drum solo in Shhh as it is the benchmark so many drummers who played for Prince are assessed against.
Let's get serious now. RIP Mr John Blackwell Jr. A wonderfully talented man and a humble soul. I had the good fortune to meet him at New Marquee in 2002 following an aftershow. It must have been about 3am and he stayed back to shoot the breeze with fans. The first thing he said to my brother and I as we approached him was that he was sorry but he'd ran out of drum sticks to give to us. He then answered graciously the childlike question we asked about being in the band, what Prince was like etc. And he shook hands with us.
Never to be forgotten, JB. You were the best.
Fan-ing out with JB...WHUTTT?!?! That's frikken awesome!!!
So cool.
@@shiny_dreamer aftershows were the best. And Celebration at Paisley lets you meet your heroes too. Everyone is very approachable.
@@thesolitaryadventurer So I've heard and read. I'm hoping to make it to a Celebration sometime (only if SHELBY J is gonna be there!! lol). I've always got the vibe that all his bandmates were such cool humans. I feel like I missed so many aftershow opportunities, but I usually flew solo, and hanging out in downtown TO after hours (without a car) isn't always the safest..and I prob had to catch the last train/bus home....but dammmmm, do I ever regret it now.
@@shiny_dreamer Best to be safe than sorry. I'm sure we'll get aftershows released by the Estate at some point - they're essential parts to his legacy.
You're right on Shelby, she's a wonderful woman and she brings a special energy wherever she is.
Real music by real musicians!!!! You really got into this bopping your head. I'm loving it❤️❤️❤️
lol Wanda :)
This is from the Musicology Tour in 2004 which I also saw in Cincinnati, Ohio. I was blessed to see Prince 8 times.
As for the people complaining about you doing too much Prince they must not like real music by a real musician that performs several genres of music.
Prince is the G.O.A.T to millions around the globe. Keep doing what you're doing because you've pulled in a lot of Prince fans to your channel. ☮️
I was at the Los Angeles version of this show. Blackwell killed it!! BUT, those are Mike Blands fills. Mike Scott is on second guitar and Fine and beautiful Rhonda Smith on bass. I got a chance to meet John Blackwell after the show. Great guy, really friendly. Also, very tall. AND I met stunning 🤩 beautiful Rhonda!!!!!
That is so awesome!
I don't what anybody says I love the way John Blackwell does this solo I don't care who created it.
After much thought, I have decided that John Blackwell and Michael Bland are tied for my favourite drummers with Prince. :)
The look on your face during that drum solo is priceless! 😎
Really loved this era where Prince went and got some MIJ Strats, slapped a floyd and some EMGs ( EMGA 85 on the bridge and SA on the neck) on them and just went ham on every concert.
verdean613! How have you been? What's new? Yes and what is cool too is those types of pickups are more for heavier music. His tone is great!
I was wondering when this would come up, so glad that it has, John Blackwell is a beast here on the drum solo, everytime i see this my jaw is on the floor, he was just a master on those skins. Prince always chose the best MUSICIANS! Great reaction Bryan, im happy to be back 😀 . 💜&☯️
The definition of freinds.. sympathiser, helper, associate...
During this time, his concert's we're in the round and relaxed. I was at this concert and it was GREAT 😃!.!😊 I never missed a Prince concert in Detroit!! Oh, by the way, that was Rhonda Smith on bass!!❤
This was an awesome show.... Prince always had a great relationship with Detroit since the very beginning of his career. DMSR from this Detroit show is also GREAT!!!
Rhonda Smith is the bass player with her feet up ..... She is a fellow Canadian btw
The thing about Prince, most artists play music, the dude WAS music. The fact he played a whole show and went and played an after show shows his commitment to his craft and his love of his fans. There will likely never be another. Very different from Jimi Hendrix. Jimi was innovative but he died way too soon so it's unfair to compare the two.
@Penelope Sighs now we have to - HAVE TO - hear that story in Patreon! 😮
Prince drummers:
1) Mr. Blackwell
2) Michael B.
3) Morris Day
4) Sheila E.
5) Prince
6) Hannah
7) Bobby Z.
For the record: my personal opinion is that a friend is someone who cares about you without an agenda.
So he did this song pretty much every show I saw on this tour, so like 9 or 10 shows, and it always killed. My favorite performance of it was at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. I had brought my friend Jay with me who had never been to a Prince show, and during Blackwell’s solos on this song his jaw was on the freaking FLOOR. So my favorite memory from that particular show is Jay’s face. Well that and being second row, so we had better seats than Beyoncé and Lenny Kravitz 😂.
Bryan, honestly, if anyone is giving you a hard time for doing the Prince reactions, screw’em. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing a deep dive on an artist’s catalog. You just happened to have picked the artist with the best, largest and most varied catalog possible so… yeah. Lots to sort through. 😉
What Mike said! Prince is one of the most under-rated guitarist who deserves to be studied and admired.
Here is one for you. Not necessarily to do a video but I think you might like it.
This is Prince at Hop Farm 2011. A concert I went to.
The venue had had sound problems all day. Prince was 30 minutes late to the stage because they were trying to sort out the sound. As the crowd got restless, Prince came on. Played the first song. Kept the crowd engaged but also relayed feedback to the sound desk and fixed the sound within one song, in front of 50,000 people
The second part was 20 minutes in. During Little Red Corvette that is the best call and response I have ever heard

Thank you Scott! Check out our upcoming Reading Your Latest Comments video. I actually did a reaction and analysis to this but unfortunately have to put it up on Patreon. Posting Prince content on RUclips has gotten tougher lately.
love that comment when you stopped the track - '#oh yes. i am hot... but not in that way.... ' class humour man! literally made me laugh out load 😝😝
and yes, RIP Jblackwell. crazy skills man.
Thank you Paul! :) BTW Are you related to Mike, he is another one who left us too soon :(

From the 1995 album The Gold Experience…with Shhh Michael Blands drumming was brilliant also on the tracks Dolphin 🐬 and Eye hate U especially 🔥🔥🔥🔥gotta check them out Bryan 😀
My man from ESPN says check it out, YYCPG will absolutely do that :)
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar The promo video to Dolphin 🐬 was 1st video ever played on Vh1 Europe I believe remember waiting patiently 🤣to see it have it on a VCR tape somewhere 😂😂😂
Your Australian accent had me rolling! Great upload and loved your reaction, swinging and bopping away there. Superb!
John Blackwell was exceptional, such a sad loss for many, espy his family.
Bryan, don’t let the negativity get to you, pal. Really, just know you’re doing something right and your personal enjoyment of it is what counts and matters. We all appreciate you greatly and I dare say we’d all love to see you perform live too. Michael B on drums would be epic! 😉
I think Morris Hayes words that Prince put to song sum this up best...
"They can kiss my a$$, in fact they better bury me face down so those MFers can kiss my a$$ on the way out too!"
You are the best ER! :)
My brother, keep doing what you do. I really enjoy seeing you experience the ride with Prince.
Thank you 🙏
Thank you, thank you, thank you! That was awesome. 💜💜💜💜 I love your reaction to this and the humor you brought. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Tracy! You are very valued and appreciated :)
Always loved this one...the dynamics and a special mention for rhythm guitarist Mike Scott's work too!
The whole relaxed thing, sitting down is interesting...both Candy Dulfer and Mike Scott are also sat down too and they all burst into action as soon as Blackwell enters the 2nd solo....brilliant!
Keep bringing the goodies, my friend!
I shall my Swedish friend! :)
Hey man, you were really into that guitar solo! I have to say, the drum and guitar solos on that song always move me.
I’m very curious about something. After the last several months of doing the Prince reaction videos has it inspired you to start checking out the studio recordings as well? Another aspect of Prince being the great live performer is the way he would change up the arrangements quite often and I would say very seldom did he ever do a carbon copy of the album versions.
It might make for an interesting experiment to take something like “Joy in Repetition” ( or any number of other songs) and see what you think of the album version versus some of the live videos you’ve now seen.
In any event, keep up the good work friend!
Kris
Lol. I enjoy to pause you give thru the songs. Even when you say something that has nothing to do with the video. 😆. Good stuff brother.
So good!
I love John Blackwell Jr. He was awesome
My favourite intro by far. i love the long wait for it. to come back around it'sworth hearing the album version for the full intent.. as for any detractors we are happy here with YYCPG
U should check out DMSR from this concert and also The Question of U/The One. Amazing showmanship in that one 💜
John Blackwell was a devoted student of watching video of other great drummers especially from way back. Kind of like Mike Tyson doing his homework on standout boxers. John told me the big cymbal behind him was inspired by Fats Gallon from Waterbury, Connecticut.
Hmmmmm interesting! I'm sure he and Virgil Donati knew of each other...
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar No doubt and thanks to bring up that comparision.
One of the reasons I like your reactions, Bryan, is that you really get into all the various musicians he worked with and what they're doing. It just adds to the journey I continue to ride on the Prince train. I got on in middle school and won't get off until they bury me.
I wanted to note at the very beginning the video catches Prince saying, "real music." It's part of a favorite of his, "real music by real musicians." He never liked performers who lipsynced their singing and pretended to play instruments instead of actually playing and singing for live performances. (Thus this fun 16 second clip: ruclips.net/video/3mdRch7OrEY/видео.html)
Thinking about that makes me think about the famous Super Bowl halftime performance in the Miami downpour and the NFL requirement that all haltime shows have pre-recorded versions in case there are issues that prevent a live halftime from being broadcast:
"The little time they did get for a full rehearsal in the stadium went poorly. It was recorded onto a tape to show the television audience in case something happened on Super Bowl Sunday that prohibited the performance from happening. Prince was not pleased with the performance that was recorded. According to Arzate (Prince’s manager Ruth Arzate) he had issues with the way the recording sounded. Prince also accidentally hit himself with the microphone during the rehearsal.
"As the real performance approached and the weather intensified, NFL executives began to push for the use of the tape or a track instead of a live performance to avoid embarrassment or worse, electrocution. The NFL was only three years off the controversial accident that left Janet Jackson exposed during her halftime performance in 2004.
"Prince wasn’t in favor of anything that wasn’t real.
"'I’m Prince, I’m gonna play live,' said Prince according to Arzate." (Quote from Jimmie Searfoss)
I've always wondered how we've never seen that footage. Not even a clip. I'd love to see how that show looked without the rain and the crowds...
@@thesolitaryadventurer Sounds like we're better off not seeing it, based on the description. Lol
Give ‘em a quarter … keep up the great reactions
Thanks Scotty! :)
Glorious.

WOW, GIRLY ON BASS, FANTASTIC !!!! N OF COURSE THA G.O.A.T. MAGNIFICENT,N THA BAND SPECTACULAR !!!!
May have been Prince's best live performance ever. 😮
Big statement! 😂 Top 1000 for sure.
Michael Bland created these fills. He does it even better than JB.
RIP John Blackwell but NO ONE plays this song on drums better than the originator Michael Bland. No one.
Bland was pretty awesome that's for sure!

I hate I missed this show. But I think it was at the palace and nope!
Did you ever get to see him perform live? I sure wish I did :(
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar yup! 3x 85, 88 and early 2000’s at Joe Louis Arena. I remember cause I was working at the hotel down the street and changed into a purple velvet dress and matching heels. Don’t even remember the steps because I was so excited. I was gonna see his final show in 2015 , but that was on my daughters tenth birthday. She apologized after he passed. Who knew🤷🏾♀️
Pay no attention to 'friends'. It is these kinds of 'friends' that killed off the amazing Peach and Black Podcast hosted for 10 + years by 4 Aussie fans. They halted their podcast in 2020 after being hammered by 'friends'....
Agreed, I just took it as they were being passive aggressive as my channel is growing and theirs aren't....
👌 R B. I miss those guys a helluva lot and hope we can lure them out of retirement at some point.
@@thesolitaryadventurer yep…I think they were thoroughly put off by the BS feedback. The amount of time they put in recording, editing, reviewing etc and to get kicked in the balls…I have no idea who kicked their nuts but I know some did.
I want to do this cover song so bad I can taste it
I'm sure by now somebody's already told you : THE BASS PLAYER IS A WOMAN....Ms. Rhonda Smith....and she is COLD. Prince always had TOP SHELF musicians in his band. The band members weren't better than him, of course...but ALL of his band members were monsters....especially Brother John Blackwell (may he rest in power). 👍🏿👍🏿
Can you describe what you mean by “tone”…I am a very casual amateur bass player 🤣
I think part of the reason he didn't get the respect for a lot of his career as some other musicians did was jealousy from those that didn't "get" him - don't worry about your complaining friends, enjoy your journey of discovering his greatness
Thank you Sed!
He’s a girl, her name is Rhonda , and she is funky!
She sure is!

Okay, dude, I've heard you say very complimentary things about John Blackwell and Michael Bland. And I've heard you talk about drummers you respect and what they can do. But, unless I'm mistaken, I've never heard you mention Neil Peart. I assume that I must be mistaken... because 1) You're from Canada and so is Rush... how could you not have heard of them. And 2) It seems like your favorite kind of music ... rock with a touch of psychedelia. So surely I'm wrong. But in case I'm not, Get Thee To RUclips and watch some Rush! My favorite is is Limelight... but it's always good to start with Tom Sawyer. :) RIP Neil Peart.
I believe he's speaking in context of Prince
Find the gem "Poor Goo" or "The Ride" or "The Undertaker" for some serious Blues guitar.
Played in the round so had to please people 360° around him as well. Just one more complication to deal with.
I c that some think that John Blackwell was His best drummer. That aint true.
Michael B. was His best drummer.
Even Prince Himself said so.
💜🐾
Wow this the first actual comment I've seen from u. It's usually just paw prints
They are both awesome. Neck and neck for me they are so close... :)
I'd like to see or read when Prince says Michael B was his best drummer. See how he breaks it down. Do you have a link?
Conversely the Michael B interview with Modern Drummer is brilliant, the way he breaks down Prince's playing and his thoughts on Dirty Mind and Controversy.
@@theteleisewilliamsexperience How could u miss the Purple hart's? i quess i have 2 post it some mo. by the time u c my harts 2 u will b ready 2 c that i actually post all kinds of comments. So who was Prince His best drummer 2 u ?

It’s Rhonda Smith on Bass…she’s probably the best bass player he had other than Brown Mark
I'd be ranking Ida and Larry in the mix there... No sleight to Mark but his rumble sound doesn't have the versatility to the players who came later.

@@theteleisewilliamsexperience my top 3 in no particular order are santana , prince , Hendrix's ....
Love John Blackwell's drumming in this Detroit show. Prince let him have at it. I am always honest and this does not rank high on my list of Prince solos. I think he got caught up into what John was doing and went for the one-upmanship forcing an ending that just didn't fit the song (that's just my humble opinion). I attended the Memphis show and it was excellent. The Hong Kong performance (John on drums) and Coachella performance (with Cora Dunham - who does a great job as well) were better solos for Prince that are available on YT (fit the song). Yet, John and Rhonda killed this Detroit show.
That D-Town show is great (especially for Question of You/Fallin'/The One and DMSR), but I agree that the versions of "Shhh" in Hong Kong and Coachella are first on my list. As far as the ending solo thing goes, I tend to agree (it doesn't serve the song as well as other epic solos) and think that it was more about 'fan service' and showmanship more than anything else. Truth be told, he kept that element of the ending solo in the Hong Kong and Coachella shows, too (with the Hong Kong ending having a stronger self-edit). Perhaps he had a better approach to the guitar showcase moment when he added Rock Lobster at the end of Anotherloverholenyohead during the O2/SB shows..?
I feel like Prince's guitar playing in this era was pretty peerless
It sure was amazing Raya :)
The bass player sitting leaning back is a female. Her name is Ronda Smith.
She is pretty amazing, and great bass tone!
One of my favourites 💜 Lol you need to work on your Aussie accent mate 😁😁
It was pretty bad I know. At the moment all I could think of was Mel Gibson from Mad Max which was a bit hazy in my brain or the lifeguards on the Bondi Beach show.... :(
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar LOL Mel has lost his Aussie accent now. One of his first movies here was "Tim" (he was 23) and plays a handsome guy who is developmentally impaired and one of the funniest lines in the movie is him saying "I'm not the full quid, anyone'll tell ya that" 😆 You're referring to Bondi Rescue? Yes great show enjoyed worldwide. There are many versions of an Aussie accent though 😄
Here's a quarter, call someone who cares.....there! They wanted something different? You got it. Travis tritt. Lol " friends"
I still say Prince is better than Jimi Hendrix!! I know people will disagree with me big time!! "SORRY"!!
No disagreements here.
If the definition of a great guitarist is wrangling the emotions of your audience and taking them on a satisfying journey... Nobody has ever done it better.
@@thesolitaryadventurer I can accept that!!
I agree with you Anthony. Sorrynotsorry 😂
Unfortunately Jimi left this earth at 27, so we don't know how he would have evolved. So yes, I wouldn't disagree either. It's impossible to rank the "greats".
@@lavenderbee3611 No doubt Jimi was a great guitarist!! Most guitarist pattern themselves from Jimi but I think Prince took it to a different level because of longevity and technology!!!!
Why do Canadians put a U in words like flavor?
That is a really good question. Or Colour, etc... I know I learned why once, but don't recall offhand...
Because British English has them... The question is why American English doesn't - and the answer to that is newspaper editors in the new world of America decided to remove the unnecessary letters to reduce print costs.
@@thesolitaryadventurer Lmao, I knew it had Canada - British tie to the reason, but that was pretty funny lol
I’m not understanding that same jam and guitar playing in this performance. Is nothing compare to the one he performed and played guitar at the Coachella. At first I thought it might have been to slow for you to analyze but after seeing 2 of your reviews. Keep bringing me down and this one that’s seems to not be the case but. Anyway it’s your channel keep doing your thing and that’s for recognizing his talent. Best to you
No offence, but you look like Chuck Seitsinger from Street Outlaws lol.
None taken, I'm not sure who that is, but I've also been told I kinda reminded someone of Chucky.... lmao
Lol I just checked who that was cause I had no idea. There is a resemblance. Sadly, I'm not too mechanical, I can change the oil, put air in the tires when needed and pump fuel... that is the extent of what I can do that way...
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitarI know guys that can do less than that lol.

It's a gorgeous guitar he got for his 38th birthday. ♥️ My son and brother are awesome guitar players, my son is into metal, my brother likes anything and everything. People who do that are small and petty, and most of all... too fashionable.
One thing that I will always get some comfort and security in, is that I could never be fashionable no matter how hard I could try....
You do the Prince videos because they get the views. They get the views because Prince died, he didn't allow performances on youtube and you are a Metal head that seems to be showing some respect to Prince, Truth be told you like watching his videos so that you can do yours but your not a Prince fan. That's the shame. I'm no musician but if I found somebody of this caliber I'd be digging through their back catalog. I see no indication of that with you here. It feels hollow to me. I won't comment anymore.
