  • Our first attempt at the cast Lee 225-55 in 223 Remington for the new to me Howa 1500. Using some load data from a very old Lyman manual, as well as their newer cast load hand book. Shot at 50 yards.

    You ROCK, i have been looking for anything like 700x in a rifle, finally you did it.

      Thanks. Not a great showing, but with some charge weight changes you could probably find something your gun likes. 700x is one of my favorites for cast loads, but I've been trying out a lot of Red Dot lately. Have a great weekend 👍🤠🇺🇲

    Great loading and shooting you did. Your chronograph is nice that it verbally tells you the reading.

      Not too bad for some random charges from a way old Lyman book. I quite enjoy my chronograph for the older light sensor type. It can BT to the app on my phone to store data, as well as make charts and graphs and such that you can email yourself to share or print out if desired.

      Not too bad for some random charges. You should give it a try, I think there are 2 and 6 cavity versions in stock at most online places these days. Thanks and good luck!

    What is the twist rate on the rifle

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  2 года назад +1

      This is a 1/9 twist. I'm pretty sure my 1/7 would look worse. Just got some aluminum GCs from Sages but need to cast up another batch of these.

      @@DummyRound there's always that one guy. Yeah don't worry about him! It was a temporal distortion in the Earth's gravity which caused it to drop a little more. I get them all of the time here. JK. Not dissin baby! What was the twist rate?

      Not too bad for some random charges. It'll get harder when I go back to the AR and try to find a load.

    • @jamespollard1670
      @jamespollard1670 2 года назад +1

      @@DummyRound Yep , sane people would stick to a bolt action with cast 223 . lol . I've tested several loads in my AR . I left the bench rest scratching my head on a few loads the other day . I 'd get a 1 inch ish group , then the next charge .5 higher would be a scattergun group . The next .5 higher would go back to a 1 inch . I'm not sure what was going on there ?

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  2 года назад

      I'll see how much accuracy we can squeeze out of the bolt gun, then switch over to the AR. What kind of alloy are you using? I think these are mostly lino and some range scrap. These came out to 52gr so they're on the harder side.

    • @jamespollard1670

      @@DummyRound I'm using COWW's that I water quenched . I may have got some soft ones mixed in ? Or the barrel may have got too hot ? Even my tried and true 1850 fps cast load started slinging bullets . I fired some jacketed at the gong and they did good . So I don't think it was the gun or scope ? I'm about to check the bore for possible leading ? It's a mystery right now as the hottest I was running these was 2200 fps with CFEblk .

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  2 года назад

      I don't know exact hardness, but something like 2/3 lino and 1/3 range scrap. No GC at this point. Got lucky on the color, just mixed Eastwood Ford Light Blue and Ruby Red. Thanks!
