I think your issue was you're using paper for markers, but colored pencils need more tooth. Markers need smoother paper, or they'll spread out on the paper. Perhaps try a medium range type of paper somewhere between marker and pencil paper. My opinion the type of paper is important. I think I hear most say Castle Arts pencils do best with a real toothy type of paper.

I find that using Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits works a lot better at blending the Castle Arts color pencils. Beautiful drawing btw.
