  • The 1,500 watt water cooled spindle has been set up and is running a combination of windshield washer fluid and distilled water. To test the spindle speed a small digital tachometer was used.
    The CNC is ready for some projects!

    Thank you for a clear informative video
    personaly i would just super glue one of the rubber feet, and that will still allow you to remove the pump for any maintenance easy,
    Also these pumps are not mean't for high volume water, so you can easily use a container half the size or even by 70% less
    this will make it more easily to stow away.
    Most VFD motors run from -10 to around 40 C and if you are running for a long time and in hot conditions i would consider a water cooler, like the ones you get for a PC. Also antifreeze with summer protection helps reduce heat due to the chemicals.
    Alos in the meantime to see how hot the water does get is to buy a cheap water thermaster like this
    Aqua One ST-3 LCD Electronic Outside Tank Thermometer for £7.50
    to keep one's eye on the heat.

    I used pink RV antifreeze in mine. Good for potable water systems.

      Hi Karl. Yep, a good suggestion, I've seen others do that too and I almost went that way. Thanks for your comments.

    I might be too cautious but I would not use the grinding stone as a weight... I just dont think putting carbide grit in the water system going to a spindle is a good idea. I am sure the cooling loop is separate from the bearings but bits of grit in the pump is probably not great. Now its probably fine and wont have any effect.. it seems less than optimal. Nice build video though!

      Hi Hal. Thanks for your input. The pump that I'm using came with the CNC and quite honestly is extremely low quality. It seems to be working fine for now but I'm pretty sure I'll replace it with a better pump at some point. I'll keep your comments in mind.

    How many meters are the water tubes from the spindle to the bucket? I just started to receive the boxes that my machine will come in and not sure if i have to buy the tubes or no.

    What projects are you eyeing? It does seem like you got a lot for your $800 investment.

    • @drez20001
      @drez20001  4 года назад

      I agree; a good bit of machine for the price. Real ball screws, heavy weight, very minimal flex, strong spindle. As far as projects go I've got more plans and ideas than free time. That's always the challenge. I've made wood gear clocks before but the CNCs I've had were just barely able to make the gears with tight enough tolerances so I'm looking forward to more of those gear trains. Projects with clean inlays, different kinds of joints, RC boats, larger signs, etc.

    Hello,
    I have the same CNC machine as you. Unfortunately Mach3 does not let install what I got from the seller, because always comes same error "internal error b109-13 cannot decompress setup program."
    Maybe you can tell me the settings of Mach3 such as: ports and pins, motor tuning...
    Thank you very much

    Over, how do you rate the CNCEST machine? Scored, functionality?, Ease of use ? Value for money? Good & bad points? ( Considering this as my upgrade from 3018

    • @drez20001
      @drez20001  3 года назад

      It's a huge leap from a 3018 in terms of stability, power, and potential. It's not without its little hiccups in getting set up but a fun machine to use. Lots of help online to get it up and running.

      Have got the manufacturer'svsnd supplier's web site as there's as many makers/suppliers/names for these as there are 3018s which all clone the SainSmart/Genmitsu machine.

    How are you going to cool the water? after running for awhile it may heat up and you will need to cool it back down.

    • @drez20001
      @drez20001  4 года назад +1

      I wondered about that too and after some research other folks say that the spindle barely gets warm after a lot of use with just the circulation of fluid. I haven't seen any cooling radiators with these machines so I think we'll be fine.

    What type of water pump do you have there? Mine came with a really loud pump that I'd love to replace.

    • @drez20001
      @drez20001  4 года назад

      Hi Tim. Well, the pump I'm using is just the one that came with it. I'll probably get around to replacing it at some point, but for the time being it's pretty quiet and the spindle is staying very cool. The loudest part of the whole set up is the fan in the control box. Best of luck.

    • @thebaldconvict
      @thebaldconvict 4 года назад +1

      @@drez20001 ah ok, mine came with a pump that is external to the water tank and so far I haven't found a pump that is quiet and has enough power to push the water round the small channels in the spindle.
      I shall continue my search, I know what you mean about the control box fan but my pump is off the scale ha ha
