I think Victoria Wyndham became the top billed actor after both Jacquelyn Courtney and George Reinholt were fired as Alice and Steve. They were both before her in credits when I started watching back in 1973. Douglass Watson was at the bottom of list when he first came on if I recall correctly. When they paired him with VW his character took off and when Virginia Dwyer was let go he got her spot in the cast crawl. Right after Victoria Wyndham. I’m not sure about this but I think someone (maybe Paul Raunch) decided Alice Steve and Rachel should be at the top of the credits because they were definitely the stars of the show. At one point Mary and Jim were first. I think
